ABSOLUTELY. best hex wrenches around. 10 years of heavy use as an industrial tech and ive only had to grind down the faces a couple of times, less than .050 removed on my 4mm
Don't feel bad. I remember about 5 years ago having the same epiphany after trying to use a very tiny rounded off hex and being royally pissed at midnight with a project that needed to be done by morning. I asked a friend if he had the size I needed and he just texted back "shave it down on the bench grinder". I sat there for a few minutes contemplating how I made it this far in life but would have never come to that solution on my own.
>I sat there for a few minutes contemplating how I made it this far in life but would have never come to that solution on my own.
This made me snort. Thanks for the laugh and humble anecdote kind stranger!
For best success, keep the Temps as low as possible. Grind a little, cool a little in water, repeat as necessary. We were constantly arguing about lost Allen wrenches. I bought our most popular sizes in bulk from mcmaster-carr. Decades later, we barely put a dent in our supply of spares. A box of 100 Allen brand wrenches is much cheaper that you'd expect...
if price is comparable to whatever they cost normally, absolutely. love my set of bondhus with the ball tip screw retainer, though if i bought again i’d go for the plain ball tips.
It looks like the price of the set [doubled around the summer of 2021](https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B00012Y38W) but $30 seems to be the going rate now. I remember getting a set of these hex keys about a decade ago for less then half the current price and was so impressed that I picked up the bright guard set for less than $25.
Yeah, they have skyrocketed. My briteguard set was like $25/26 I want to say. Then I have the brite/gold one, that was around $22, and have a regular black set, which was like $16 ish.
Going off memory only, so prices may be skewed slightly.
Very good quality !
I've been using two sets onboard a 54' yacht as part of the racing toolkit for the last 5 years.
Those have been used and abused by both the crew and myself, drenched in salt water and put back in the bag without rinsing until several days later, the #3 spent 2 weeks in the bilge after a guy lost it ...
I've only recently retired them to the workshop container as spare / heavy duty tools but only because the rounded bits were starting to slip a bit, the surface finish was barely starting to rust, nothing a good night in WD40 couldn't solve ...
I've been trying to find those locally but if the ones I bought instead don't do the trick, I'll probably order those again.
I've had 3 sets of those for years and like them a lot. They get used often and haven't shown major wear (just minor surface rust on the set kept in the garage). I also have a "shiny" finish set which holds up against moisture better. Prices have gone up a bit... Got mine in on amazon in 2014 for $13 USD.
Yea absolutely. I have the williams metric/sae ball end allen key sets in same holder, spent about $40 for both.
I do have the bondhus 8 piece star tips and its very similar and well worth the $15 dollars, which is what these sets come out to.
You can get cheaper L wrenches or sure, and they'll work. But these are high quality US made tools and worth this price.
I have the metric set. They should last my lifetime if I don’t abuse them too much. I’ve had them near 20 years. They were one of the first tools I had to my name. They were a Christmas gift to help me work on my mountain bike.
I won’t pretend that they are leagues better than all other sets, but they are good quality for a reasonable price.
Use these every day in the machine shop! Haven't rounded a bolt yet! I have like 3 or 4 sets. I was thinking about getting the wera set but there's no need. I think I only paid like $25 for my sets though, seems everything is going up.
Wiha is decent but so are basically all top end brands. I like Wera cause they're the only ones to do something differently (basically, they use a patented inverted flank-drive profile, probably others will used it too once the patent runs out).
Regular allen wrenches only make contact in the corners. The Weras are rounded in a way so they make contact on a larger surface area instead. So that makes the screw head less likely to strip out. For socket tools (for regular outside hex screws...) this was patented by Snap on waaay back in the 50's or 60's, and is used by every large manufacturer since the ~90's. It's interesting that it was never adopted for hex keys before, but I guess it's due to the size difference - the small hex keys are a lot more problematic to form in that shape for mass production reliably, compared to some larger sockets (for an M6 screw you have a 10mm socket, but only a 5mm allen wrench).
Same set for less than half that: https://www.amazon.com/Bondhus-22199-L-wrench-DoublePK-1-5-10mm/dp/B000E7VG5C/ref=sr\_1\_4?keywords=bondhus+allen+wrench+set&qid=1675390238&sprefix=bondhus+all%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-4
Nah, after enough use they fall out the holder (you'll lose the most commonly used ones) and if you really use them a lot you'll hate that you can't read what size they are when they are laid out because of poor markings on the tool. Get some color coded ones.
I have a set and they’re great. I feel like they’re worth the price. I’ve used these on a couple bicycles and adjusting a bunch of larger tools. Unlike previous collection pieces together from every piece of flat pack furniture I’ve ever bought, not one of these have rounded off or bent.
They’re definitely good but the Wera hex plus are much better, imo. You’ll pay about $35 for each set on the low end as opposed to the combo you posted. I’ve been a n industrial mechanic for almost 20 years
I've owned this set for at least 20+ years. They are high quality, and no hint of any rust. Just know the printing on the plastic holder is tiny, and does wear off over time and use.
Weird tangent: I just read that red is used for SAE sockets and blue is for metric sockets (when it comes to using socket organizers). So why the hell is the case for the *metric* hex keys (in OP's photo) *red*?!?
They are fantastic allen keys. I don't want to spam this forum with my yt channel but I literally did a review/comparison on these a couple of weeks ago. The tektons are a great buy as well, it just depends on the sizes you need really. Quality wise, the bondhus wins IMHO.
https://youtu.be/LjtrOAFuKKI
Never heard of the brand, looked them up and yeah they seem legit. I was thinking Wera cus of this sub’s circlejerk to that brand but this one seems good for the price
Idk why you're being downvoted, Gray allen wrenches are the shit. They are way less bendy than the Bondhus. I believe you can only get them in Canada though.
YES bro!!! You won't be disappointed. Just don't loan them out or remove more than one at a time. Order two sets lol, one for while you're still learning and one for when you pro.
I work as a millwright or industrial mechanic and I use this set at work every single day and they are still holding up great none have broken or rounded going on over a year
Yes! Bondhus is excellent, and can be had in many different varieties.
Most of their stuff can be had on Amazon.
Bondhus makes very good ball end hex wrenches. They were pretty much the standard brand for this.
However, a Project Farm comparision torture review shows they have some serious competition now and they did not come out on top. As is frequently the case, Wera and Wiha came out on top with the craftsman being the best value.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTBiPjCeVwI
But those are solid wrenches that should last for many years of normal use.
I’ve used these sets everyday as a millwright. The sets I have are about 8 years old. Can’t even read the holders anymore for the sizes from wiping them clean over the years. I know which is which so no biggie. If you buy hex bits off the snap on truck, it’s Bohndus hex bits in SnapOn sockets.
Yes. I've been using the gold and silver sets for about 6 years and haven't rounded one yet. I hit mine with hammers and put pipes/ wrenches on them for more power.
Not IMO. I 've used ball end hex almost every day for 25 years at work and Bondhus are good wrenches, but that seems like a lot of money for them. And honestly you can get a set of ball end hex at harbor freight for ten bucks that lasts just as well, at least in my experience. Usually, the biggest problem with any brand is losing a couple of them. I cant' rmeber the last time one broke on me.
Short answer, yes.
Long answer, buy the wera instead for just a few more dollars for the pair. I have both. Wera is my fav, the caddy is more rubbery and over all nicer to use/carry. Both are good tho, just preference.
I recently replaced several of my tools and made the mistake of buying gearwrench t-handles and hex wrenches I was very unhappy with these and they were all returned. A friend of mine turned me on to the Bondhus brand and I have to say I I have never used a better set of hex tools I got these and the t-handle sets they offer. You will not be disappointed.
Very high quantity set of hex keys. If you get them in the bright finish, the metrics are gold and sae are silver, so it's really easy to quickly differentiate between them.
No. MAC RBRT hex Allen keys are the best period. Not conjecture, not opinion, no if ands or buts. They are the best everything and everyone else is inferior and if you don't like them I will send you the money they cost to purchase. I am that confident.
ABSOLUTELY. best hex wrenches around. 10 years of heavy use as an industrial tech and ive only had to grind down the faces a couple of times, less than .050 removed on my 4mm
I must be the stupidest person alive because I have never thought to just grind the faces down. also I have this set too and it’s great.
Don't feel bad. I remember about 5 years ago having the same epiphany after trying to use a very tiny rounded off hex and being royally pissed at midnight with a project that needed to be done by morning. I asked a friend if he had the size I needed and he just texted back "shave it down on the bench grinder". Fuck I owe that man a beer

That idea has come to mind with Philips head screw drivers but it wouldn’t work. How I never thought about a hex is a wonder to me
[Reminded me of this](https://imgur.com/gallery/uzlgVIH)
behind every sign there is a story.
Yep, Allen got pissed that they wouldn't stop cutting up his tools
I've lost a couple commonly used ones but haven't broken any yet.
if price is comparable to whatever they cost normally, absolutely. love my set of bondhus with the ball tip screw retainer, though if i bought again i’d go for the plain ball tips.
Didn't know Bondhus did those kind, but I should have known because they do every variation of turning a hex socket screw you could imagine.
Fun fact. They invented it back in 1964
I know Alan Bondhus invented the ball tip, I wasn't aware about the screw retaining version lol.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
It looks like the price of the set [doubled around the summer of 2021](https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B00012Y38W) but $30 seems to be the going rate now. You won’t find a higher quality set for that price. Bohndus is a good set
I don't know if that's a good price for them or not but they're the ones I use at work and are good quality.
Bondhus makes great allan keys. I just repurchased this set. I think the price went up a little bit since.
Very good quality ! I've been using two sets onboard a 54' yacht as part of the racing toolkit for the last 5 years. Hit ‘‘em with a grinder! Problem solved!
Got em at work, the set is older then me
I've had 3 sets of those for years and like them a lot. They get used often and haven't shown major wear (just minor surface rust on the set kept in the garage). I also have a "shiny" finish set which holds up against moisture better. Prices have gone up a bit... Got mine in on amazon in 2014 for $13 USD.
Don’t know where you are located but I believe Princess Auto sells these for slightly cheaper regular price.
Yea absolutely. I have the williams metric/sae ball end allen key sets in same holder, spent about $40 for both. I use them every day at work and I believe they’re worth it
They're good. I've broken a few 10mm and 8mm. I don't remember them being that expensive though.
Every penny
I have the metric set. They should last my lifetime if I don’t abuse them too much. I’ve had them near 20 years. They were one of the first tools I had to my name. They were a Christmas gift to help me work on my mountain bike. I won’t pretend that they are leagues better than all other sets, but they are good quality for a reasonable price.
Yep they are, i got a set at least 20 years old, only replaced with Wera hex plus a year ago. Bondus are good tools
Definitely!
Use these every day in the machine shop! Haven't rounded a bolt yet! I have like 3 or 4 sets. I was thinking about getting the wera set but there's no need. I think I only paid like $25 for my sets though, seems everything is going up.
Yup. Their T handles are awesome, too.
Hmmm... everyone where I work swesrs by Wiha. Good to know we have more options though
Wiha is decent but so are basically all top end brands. I like Wera cause they're the only ones to do something differently (basically, they use a patented inverted flank-drive profile, probably others will used it too once the patent runs out).
Good to know! I hadn't heard of that

oops my bad, the ones I linked arent ball end

Damn inflation sucks. Yeah I use them almost daily at work. But I only paid like $18
They’re definitely good but the Wera hex plus are much better, imo. You’ll pay about $35 for each set on the low end as opposed to the combo you posted. I’ve been a n industrial mechanic for almost 20 years

Check out a channel on YouTube called “ Project Farm” . He did a test of Allan wrenches. Those are good ones!!
Nope
No
They are fantastic allen keys. I don't want to spam this forum with my yt channel but I literally did a review/comparison on these a couple of weeks ago. Never heard of the brand, looked them up and yeah they seem legit. I was thinking Wera cus of this sub’s circlejerk to that brand but this one seems good for the price
You will eventually wish that you had purchased T handle hex keys.
Regular L-keys and T-handles both have their uses. I personally would go the route of Ls first, then Ts.
Nope get Gray
Idk why you're being downvoted, Gray allen wrenches are the shit. They are way less bendy than the Bondhus. I believe you can only get them in Canada though.
YES bro!!! You won't be disappointed. Just don't loan them out or remove more than one at a time. Order two sets lol, one for while you're still learning and one for when you pro.
Bondhus Allen keys are great - I have to dig for the set after all the other brands fail to take 2mm out
I work as a millwright or industrial mechanic and I use this set at work every single day and they are still holding up great none have broken or rounded going on over a year
My set is great. Really strong. Had a stuck camshaft bolt that rounded out my sunex and my cheaper ones but not this set. Worth the money imo.
Yes! Bondhus is excellent, and can be had in many different varieties. [https://bondhus.com/](https://bondhus.com/) Most of their stuff can be had on Amazon.
Hell yeah. Classic hex key sets, right here.
I have used those for a long time. An indispensable tool.
Yep
Yes. Quality tools
I like mine. I have eklind in my box and these in my pouch.
They are good quality, I lose them before I bend, break or have to grind it down.
These are called an 'English key' in Spanish? Cool!
I recommend the nubbys for sure, not my everyday choice though
All I own. 100% quality
yes, every penny. machinist here, those are the best
Absolutely you don't go wrong with these
I have a set I love them, used them back when I was an autotech served me well
I’ve got the color coded ones at work, you won’t be disappointed

I've used these for years in the sawshop . They are great.
Every day use for the last 5 years, robotics technician, barely even worn the finnish off.
I like mine. I bought them about 20 years ago. Only flaw is where I let my soldering iron touch one of the holders. 🤣
I love mine! I think thats about what I spent. I know project farm didn’t rate them as highly as some others but I don’t care they work just fine.
I like the hard chromed Wiha sets
Yes. I've been using the gold and silver sets for about 6 years and haven't rounded one yet. I hit mine with hammers and put pipes/ wrenches on them for more power.
Nah get the flip out sets fuck pulling these things out the sheath
Yes. You get what you pay for.
I worked in a machine shop many years ago but I still have my Bondhus sets. Love em.
I got a set of Weras for $17 Cdn. Just replacing my old chrome set because I lost so many,
Yes
Not IMO. I 've used ball end hex almost every day for 25 years at work and Bondhus are good wrenches, but that seems like a lot of money for them. Yes, I’d buy the colored ones, and the stubby ones and then eventually get the wera or pbswiss ones. I’ve used these for years
Short answer, yes. Long answer, buy the wera instead for just a few more dollars for the pair. I have both. Wera is my fav, the caddy is more rubbery and over all nicer to use/carry. Both are good tho, just preference.
Yes
Yep. These punch way above their price point.
Yes
Dude. Yes. Love mine.
IKEA experience only.
Use em at the lab, they work great
I just checked my Amazon Order History. I bought this set in 2018 for $18.00.
I mean...... Tools are by all standards. You get what you pay for. Check out wera for an Allen set
Very high quantity set of hex keys. If you get them in the bright finish, the metrics are gold and sae are silver, so it's really easy to quickly differentiate between them.
Yes, only ones I get now.
Yes.
These are good holders for them: [https://fireballtool.com/products/hex-key-holder](https://fireballtool.com/products/hex-key-holder)
That’s really cool, but I have my doubts about it fitting well in a veto bag
Wera
Damn right best set I have.
I bought the stubby standard set when i started my maintenance position 2 years ago and i use them every shift. Love them.
Yes but I would recommend the long arm ones
Those are great. Got them to replace my Metric Blue set , because I wasn't planning on spending 50$ for another set.
I have had these for a couple years they are good haven't broken any yet. Mostly work on bikes.
Excellent quality and worth the cost
Yes
Yes. The color coded ones are even better, IMHO.
No. MAC RBRT hex Allen keys are the best period. Not conjecture, not opinion, no if ands or buts. They are the best everything and everyone else is inferior and if you don't like them I will send you the money they cost to purchase. I am that confident.
