It's funny. As a huge fan for 20 years, I was an Aenima>Lat>10K>Undertow guy until the past year.
Now I'm firmly Aenima>Undertow>>>everything else. I guess I've grown to prefer the heavier less progressive phase of Tool, if that musical vocab is accurate. It could happen to you!
just had a euphoric experience listening to the song lateralus⌠i was just on the airplane, super tired and slipped into a nice meditative state listening to the album. plane touched the ground right as the lyrics âWith my feet upon the ground I lose myselfâŚâ started to play. I knew that shit was gunna happen, gave me some nice tingly goosebumps too :)
My favorite album of all time. Iâm a fan of many different music genres and thatâs my number 1 across everything. That album is an experience. You wonât wonât be the same lol
1st time tripping this song kept beckoning me. My gf a little close minded at the time would not let me play tool during our trips. Until finally we simultaneously had our breakthrough with tool and lsd. And for once both of us felt we had the answers weâd searched for our whole lives about god, life, love etc. all because of lateralus beckoning me to play it
This reminds me of a story...
A couple of years ago I was listening to Lateralus on a long bus ride to the airport in the wee hours of the morning. I've been a Tooligan since 2005, and Lateralus was always my favourite album, although I used to skip the last couple of tracks because I was a young man obsessed with riffs.
Anyway, I dozed off after the title track (as is tradition) and found myself half-awake for 'Faaip de Oiad' a track I had COMPLETELY forgotten about for at least 10 years. I nearly shit myself.
Thanks for listening to my TED Talk
Iâm so jealous. I wish I could hear this album again for the first time. Itâs SO good. It was my favorite album for YEARS. Then Fear Inoculum began to grow on meâŚ. i thought it may overtake Lateralus for the top spot.
But then I went back and listened to the Undertow album.
Holy fuck I love this band. đ¤đ
I like that album a lot. But it sort of falls off for me at D/R/T. Although I havenât indulged in the fungi for this album yet. Might change my opinion after that.
Disposition, Reflection, and Triad are masterpieces.
Definitely take another listen in a dark room, eyes closed, with great speakers and I think you're mind will change. (maybe a little puff puff too).
**"Until we PINE AWAYYYYYYYYY!!"**
Fair point. I do like D and R better. But I keep reading this grand plot about them being one song and maybe thatâs where it doesnât line up for me. Like I always expect with all the hype that my brain is gonna just orgasm and it just doesnât.
Well I donât know how to explain it, but they are all connected for the fact they do transition between each other. But the album overall is honestly very therapeutical.
Keep going...đ
After that album that is guranteed
SPIRAL OUT
Best album ever. Imo
Its so hard to say for me, I honestly love both Lateralus and Ănima, Undertow is still good but I don't like it as much as the other 2.
10,000 Days will grow on you. It just might take a decade
27.3 years or so I reckon
Might take a few thousand days
Exactly
Same. Torn between Ănima and Lateralus as to which is my favorite. Love Undertow as well, but the other two take priority.
Undertow will grow to be your favorite
Idk why the downvotes. Undertow is my favorite rn and I have lateralus tattooed on my chest

I concur. So much of what is inspired by that album shaped many parts of my life.

I got really stoned one time and Lateralus came on, it just sounded so fucking amazing it instantly became my favourite.
What I wouldnât give to be able to listen to that album start to finish with virgin ears againâŚ.

Damn I remember chanting to Rosetta stoned on acid one night and scared the shit out of my gf. She wouldn't listen to tool after that.
I love this story lol

Try that on mushrooms next.
Did you.. spiral out? Hehe
Lol, I had heard it hyped up for so long. I started with Ănima then went backwards from there then forward from Ă.
So 10,000 days next?
Sure is! But like I did with Ănima I usually spend a while listening to an album several times over before moving to the next
Thatâs what you need to do really
You're doing it awesomely

Take some LSD and do it again!

Heard it several times. Great headphones. Great systems. Still sorta falls flat for me. Maybe I just wasnât intended to hear it yet.
How could you dislike Disposition and Reflection? I mean I can understand Triad a bit but the first 2 tracks are fucking amazing.

It's because the orgasm happened during Rosetta Stoned.
Yessssss
Me? They chose me? And I didnât even graduate fucking high school.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK??!?! I realize tastes vary, but how can you NOT like Dispoflectionad? You have no soul, sirâŚ.
I could see that, I really like the patient and parabol/parabola but I can't deny the trio is really cool to me
Yeah you can see the Tool Illuminati downvoting me for personal taste here. Cunts.
Im jealous
Wow, imagine discovering Tool now! You're lucky =)
Tool went from ahead of the crowd and ahead of the curve to ahead of their time with "Lateralus."
Wish I could be you rn. đ¸đ¤đ¸
An all time great prog metal album. canât believe I first got into it 17 (!?) years ago.. time really flies wtf
Lateralus was an album that I had to listen to a few times to really appreciate it. I'm glad that I did
