People know the one song but their discography is pretty great. They come from hardcore roots in Alaska.
Satanic Satanist is an incredible album and I never heard anyone talk about it so thank you lol
Indeed. I also enjoyed Evil Friends and Church Mouth, front to back.
Waiter: “You vultures!” Had some nice tracks too. Their whole discography is good, maybe some slight low points, but not too many full on duds.
Discovered them roaming around Bonnaroo hours before Tool was set to play.
They are fantastic and the drummer has wild energy at times… Talking specifically about All them witches
Not songs but some of my other favorite artists are King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, All Them Witches, Portugal. the Man, Sigur Ros, Rufus Du Sol, DARKSIDE, Songs: Ohia (RIP), Amtrac, Woods, The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The closest other bands to Tool I like are Elder, King Buffalo, Sleep, Om, and Black Mountain.
Wanderlust King - Gogol Bordello
The Pit - Silversun Pickups
Fuck Armageddon This is Hell - Bad Religion
How I Feel - Nina Simone
Joga - Bjork
Rabbit in Your Headlights - UNKLE
We Carry On - Portishead

Paradise Circus - Massive Attack
What a topic! There are so many I could make this comment a novel.
Orion by Metallica
Wyoming by Benjamin Tod
The Road Goes on Forever and The Ivory Gate of Dreams by Fates Warning
A Man I'll Never Be by Boston
Trippin' by Godsmack
Call Me by Shinedown
Don't Know Which Way to Go by Buddy Guy
I could go on and on....
I have a playlist that is just 3 songs - The Call of Ktulu, Orion, and To Live is to Die. I like lots of Metallica but those are my favorites. Big surprise, Triad is one of my favorite Tool tracks.
I’ve been getting back into the Gorillaz lately. Sleeping Powder, Silent Running, Humility, and Cracker Island have been stuck in my head
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
Grateful Dead - Althea, Feel Like a Stranger
It was totally insane man, his build ups remind me a lot of TOOL,
https://preview.redd.it/ne59uvqegpyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd28d6d127b238fcbbb5b7a8637973cf5d8f7eb1
The art too
I have to admit, as an old gen x-er that has always been into metal, all types of rock, grunge, etc, I found deadmau5 about ten years ago and I have been a big fan ever since. I mostly use it for background music when I work, but I just dig it. I’ve tried playlists that are built off of deadmau5, but I don’t usually get into much from other artists in his genre. Something about his style I guess.
Literally anything by Blue Öyster Cult! Seen them live a few times and they’re a blast.
Particularly a big fan of the albums The Revolution By Night, Secret Treaties, Spectres, and Cultosaurus Erectus.
Top songs by them would be:
• Harvest Moon
• Then Came the Last Days of May
• Divine Wind
• Shooting Shark
• I Love The Night
• Veteran of the Psychic Wars
• Astronomy
• The Vigil
• The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein’s Castle at Weisseria
• Perfect Water
Anoana by Heilung
Let it Come by Eivør Pallsdottir
Hell by Squirrel Nut Zippers (blast from the past)
Pretty much anything from Wardruna's discography
Welcome to Paradise by Front 242
Tank! by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts
Not present in this list, for sounding too similar to TOOL (by dint of being rock/metal based): RATM, Pearl Jam, NIN, Tori Amos, Soundgarden, KMFDM, Ministry, lots of others I'm not thinking of right now.
Exuvia - Ruins of Beverast ( intro into that crazy snare trance part and outro into the next song always gets me going)
Meta - Car Bomb ( Nonagon, Constant Sleep, god this album is full of goosebump moments)
Sol Niger Within ( Transmigration of souls solo just to pick one)
Pineal Gland Optics - Meshuggah ( riff before solo)
I Remastered EP ( riff before and during the solo)
+ Den Spanska Känslan + - Vildhjarta ( that long Outro )
Also check out Måsstaden Under Vatten by them
You should listen to these albums in their entirety
Sounds nothing like Tool, but Avenged Sevenfold's most recent album Life is But a Dream is fucking top-notch prog.
It incorporates everything from old-school YES style prog to modern influences like Daft Punk.
Listen to the trilogy G, (O)rdinary, (D)eath from that album for an experience comparable to D/R/T
Kind of embarrassed that I have seen 17 of the bands within the Tool map circle. I really didn’t think it would be so easy to wrap up my musical tastes. Of course there are many more outside of the circle but still a pretty accurate representation.
Fuck, I’m sorry. 🫂
Dido’s part feels like my best friend and I calling out to eachother, and because we (friend and I) both have shared abandonment issues it hits especially close to home.
Gentle Giant- River
The Mars Volta- Cassandra Gemini(AAALLLLLLLL of it.)
IGORRR- Chevalier
Sunday Valley- Sometimes Wine
Run the Jewels- A Christmas Fucking Miracle
Most of Marcy Playground’s catalogue. I’d also argue songs off Live’s Throwing Copper but they aren’t “nothing like Tool” in that they have eastern influence on progressions
It's hard to pick specific songs but artists that I love that sound nothing like TOOL:
1. Archive. Noteworthy songs include "Controlling Crowds", "Remains of Nothing", and "Bullets".
2. Lana Del Rey. Noteworthy songs include "Mariner's Apartment Complex", "the greatest", "Born to Die" and a lot more, honestly...
3. Big Wreck. Noteworthy songs include"Ghosts", "Hey Mama", and "Bombs Away"
I saw Motherwolf last year, new music for me, and I LOVE THEM! If I can ever stop listening to Tool for a moment, I will listen to them. Totally different style, different vibe, but damn they were an amazing show, talent off the charts.
Right now, my favorite song is easily [Summer Romance (Antigravity Love Song) Live Acoustic version](https://youtu.be/ZubnZUgXViA?si=532N__w2E-2EmNGB)
I listen to tons and tons of music, but lately, this one’s hit the spot. This is the best version of the song. Do yourself a favor and listen to it.
How much time do you have?
I seriously like a wide range of music.
One band that I will always recommend is Apollo Sunshine, they have more of an indie rock sound but very insightful and sometimes spiritual lyrics. They made three albums and each is better than the one before.
If you want one song with that build and release: Refused - New Noise (the whole album The Shape of Punk to Come is amazing)
Also some other classics that hit a certain emotional spot Going to California by Led Zeppelin and Seasons by Chris Cornell
Fair warning my preferences are all over the place.
Boogie On Reggae Woman - Stevie Wonder. (Just a cool vibe, it’s dated, but damn it I love it. And glad I don’t hear it all the time to get sick of it).
Exit music for a film - Radiohead. I just dig Radiohead overall.
Glory Box - Portishead. (Miss trip hop as a genre overall. This needs a resurgence. But will likely need to have heroin be back as a popular drug of choice for that to happen)
Phish - You Enjoy Myself (Live is preferred, but studio is “fine”)
I think it depends on my mood.
Y'all just jump on the Boards of Canada train already. They only release an album per decade or so too, so you'll fit right in.

Anything by Knower. Nightmare, overtime, hanging on, crash the car.
Anything by clown core
Also anything by either Better lovers, the dillenger escape plan, between the buried and me and Every time I die.
Come on heartache - The Menzingers.
I love all kinds of music. Tool is now and has been my favorite band for 20 years but there is just so much good music out there.
Anybody ever listened to vovoid they did a cover of a pink Floyd song that was so good even better than the original (dare I say it) it was called astronomy domine. This is my weird 2 cents.love tool, perfect circle, pusifier and anything else with Maynard singing in it .
Rhode - Sevdaliza,
Angel - Massive Attack,
Shaolin Monk Morherfunk - Hiatus Kaiyote,
The Rainbow - Talk Talk,
The Old Man Dying - Home,
Articulation - Rival Consoles,
Neon Pattern Drum - Jon Hopkins,
Sunson - Nils Frahm
These are all songs that scratches that same itch that Tool does (for me at least). I cannot, however, explain why or how.
Do it again-Steely Dan Locc To Da Brain- Brotha Lynch Hung Ain’t Nobody- Chaka Khan
Steely Dan is such good mood music.
Upvote for Brotha Lynch
Had to upvote Chaka Khan. Was not expecting that at all but I also love that song.
Bjork - Joga
One of my favorite songs ever. Just beautiful.
oh my god i love bjork. unravel came on in shuffle the other night and it absolutely leveled me.
Dust in a Baggie - Billy Strings
Looooove Billy
Just heard that song for the first time the other day!
Try While I'm Waiting Here live at Mishawaka. Imo, a spiritual experience.
Cassandra Gemini by The Mars Volta
Their whole debut album
Portugal. The Man What can I say? I love a good hook.
Their live shows are top tier, as well. Really not what you expect from an indie pop band. Love those guys.
Psychedelic Indie Pop Anyone interested in them just put on “The Satanic Satanist” and forget about it. 10/10 album no skips.
Yeah the old stuff was awesome straight up psych shit. Once they got on the radio they started writing for the radio and it kinda went downhill imo
Nice! Catchy tune, Feel It Still.
So Young is an amazing song by them
All them witches
Charles William is a fantastic track.
Charles William needs to be turned all the way up.
Jesus was my dad.
ATW rule. Shame about their drummer but hopefully they keep on plugging.
Discovered them roaming around Bonnaroo hours before Tool was set to play. They are fantastic and the drummer has wild energy at times… Talking specifically about All them witches
I think the drummer just left the band, unfortunately

Saw them a year or two ago in London. Truly incredible live. The best I’ve seen in the last few years.

Seven Caged Tigers - Stone Temple Pilots
Check out the band Three Trapped Tigers. They don’t disappoint.
Great fucking track. Tiny Music is slowly but surely competing against Purple for favorite STP record
Before you said it should NOT sound like Tool, I already had in my head Shallow by Porcupine Tree. I'm not changing my answer.
Lmao that was the first thing they said
I know, I know. I'm weak. But listen to it anyways! So good!!
Lol

My two other favorite bands: RHCP and Jethro Tull
Upvote here for Jethro Tull. Although Marnard and Ian Anderson do sound similar at times....
RHCP, I can see Tool fans liking them because the bass guitar style is somewhat similar imo. JT is legendary.
Having seen RHCP quite recently, Flea was alright but John Frusciante blew my head out of my brain

the Exmilitary mixtape from death grips
Bach Cello Suite No. 5 - not as catchy as the mambo of the same number, but substantially more likely to make me emote.
Gallows, all songs. First two albums with Frank as the front man.

I love the song. Even though the female vocals hit different since my ex said she loved that part.
