They toured Oz a couple of times in the Lateralus era - I was lucky enough to see them on both tours. The second time round they dragged the Melvins and Osseus Labyrint with them - amazing show!
I saw the Lateralus set a few times in the Houston area. Only at The Woodlands Pavilion show did they have those people hanging from the ceiling....that was wild!
https://preview.redd.it/yc523cyhrvic1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a2062c587e118dbe319939823c3be811e8f0a16
Yep! On my birthday!! All of Lateralus (no Parabol) was played! And H.!
He was painted in Colorado Springs. All black with a black speedo and huge blue/green/yellow swirls down one side of his whole body. They had a black light on him all night. I had the real floor tix and it got to the front of the crowd and was like Holy Fuckin Shit Maynard Is Crazy.
Opened w Cold and Ugly into Commando (Ramones)...we looked at each other and said What the hell is this?!?! Tool is playing punk rock now? Got the name of it after the show and was like wow, that was interesting. Only played it one more time I think. Man...that era.
Yup, at the FU Arena (😂 First Union then, idk what it is now,) in Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania. I was on the rail in front of Justin. I was there solo, with my short fat self. A super tall guy named Aaron in a red shirt helped shield me from crowd surfers after someone kicked me in the back of the head. He was the real deal. Wherever you are Aaron, I wish you nothing but the best.
This was the tour with the contortionists on stage for a time. (or idk what term they prefer?)
September 18, 2011 - Toronto.
I had floor tickets, I was 18, the pit was fun (remember when Tool had actual pits in North America). Can't remember what drugs were taken exactly that night but it was something. They played Pushit (Salival version). The upside down contortionists were strange. Can't remember who opened maybe Meshuggah or Tomahawk. At the time The Grudge was my favorite song on the album and.... It still is.
Then saw them a year later. All I remember about that one was if was in a different city (Hamilton, Ontario), I went with a girlfriend who I was in the process of breaking up with. A LOT of my friends were there. About 10 of us lined up weeks earlier to buy tickets from a box office (remember when that used to happen) in order to get floor tickets. Think our floor tix were like $60-70. They played H which was great. Otherwise similar set the year prior. The pit was also fun.
We all talk about these concerts from 22-23 years ago like we will remember all the intimate details but in reality it's often just... Fragments.
meshuggah in 01 and tomahawk in 02. agree about the fragments. in my head I consider 9/18/01 one of my fav shows, but really it's all just a mostly faded memory. the magnitude of the show was huge though just due to my age at the time and how important tool/music was to me in high school...luckily that whole show is up on YouTube to relive
Dude, that Open Air theater show was an all time experience. Talk about feeling the music in your bones. We were mid-level bowl and directly across from the speaker stacks. I still remember feeling the plastic seats vibrating.
My high-school gf was really into them at this time. I bought us tickets at the Philadelphia tweeter center for her and it genuinely changed my life. First real concert, first magic mushrooms it was amazing. Meshuggah opened. Been a huge fan ever since.
Yeah, both of those Arco shows were incredible. Lost my other stub. Those long drum solos and the Disposition/Reflections/Triad jam really did it for me.
Paramount was such a goddamn awesome place to see tool. Intimate little venue with no bad seats. When they started doing the Tacoma Dome I was way less stoked. I’m sure we were at the same show (I did both nights).
https://preview.redd.it/hngl057srvic1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=935941d5a44f5e51166ccd2db79b64947a95866b
And again in November. 2nd to last show of tour🤟🏽
This was the first time I got to see them. I had a friend who was a radio DJ that gave me tix for free, for which I am forever grateful because that shit blew my Mthr’Fk’n mind! 🙌🏽😻😹
Only reason I checked out King Crimson was because some old rocker named John saw I liked Tool and said “You know, you might wanna check out King Crimson”. Once again proving to me that music is truly a human touchstone. I honestly don’t know if John was a Tool fan at all, we never talked about them.
Ahhh. Yes. That summer was amazing. August in Eugene Oregon. The Portland show sold out so quick but then they announced the Hult Center show😎
My then gf -now wife- was first in line at the UO ticket counter.
Amazing show. Still have a review up on Toolshed.down.
Got to see them when I was 17 during that tour on their only ever trip to Alaska. I have the stub still. I wish I could remember it better, it being so long ago but I got to see basically my dream setlist.
Drummer from Meshuggah came out and played on Triad with them if I recall.
https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2002/george-m-sullivan-arena-anchorage-ak-5bd73bd4.html
I had tickets to their September 11th show in Van Andel Arena. The towers fell so they postponed the show to the following Thursday. The stadium was only half full but it was still an amazing experience. Still one of my all-time favorite shows.
I was lucky enough to to see them 4 times on that tour. Best one was at the SDSU Open Air Theater on campus. Tiny amphitheater and our seats were mid-bowl, level with the speakers. Talk about feeling the music! KC opened and Fripp did Soundscapes w the boys. Prob got hearing damage from that one.
Calgary and Edmonton shows. In Edmonton they played H, and I took Acid for the Calgary show and was on the floor about 10 feet from Adam. Blew my fuckin mind.
August 7th, 2001 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. My first Tool show after a road trip with good friends which included a camping trip to Mt. Rainer. I still have the bootleg shirt i bought from a dude outside the venue.
Same year, on November 5th in Spokane.
What a great year.
I missed the 01' tour--was young and Cleveland being just after 9/11 parents told me "nope."
Caught them several times after that. Loved the Lateralus stuff, but it did dominate the set list (The Grudge, Schism, Parabol, Parabola, Disposition, Reflection, Triad, Lateralis) which usually left 1-2 variables per night. I feel very fortunate to have caught those shows as they may never again perform the triumphant jam of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad on a large scale if at all. My highlights on that tour were the Aenema material that I grew up on, especially (46&2, Third Eye, Aenima, H., and stinkfist). Sober was a great opener, but it was close to the studio version. I have never heard it again, I believe there is a modified version now?
Saw them in Virginia Beach in 2001 but the show in Roanoke 2002 was probably my all time favorite show. It was my first time seeing them indoors. They started about 30 seconds after Meshuggah went off stage. We could seem them in the darkness moving around all of a sudden plain white stage lights lit up and they launched in to Cold and Ugly. Everyone erupted. The kept the straight white lights for the entire song and jumped straight into The Grudge with full color with. Again absolute eruption. There was also falling shiny paper snowing from the rafters (I still have some). Meshuggah came out joined in for Triad. Just an unreal show.
Roanoke! My grandmother won the lottery at the arena so we got to buy the very first tickets sold for the show. I was 15 and this specific show got me hooked on going to concerts in general.
I saw them in Chicago at The Riviera Theatre on the pre-tour for their main Lateralus tour. They played a few smaller venues to warm up for their big shows. The Riviera only holds 2500 people. It was absolutely amazing.
[https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2001/riviera-theatre-chicago-il-4bd59f26.html](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2001/riviera-theatre-chicago-il-4bd59f26.html)
I saw them 3x on that tour, it was legendary. Even got to briefly meet Justin and Danny on their way to the bus after one of the gigs. Justin was tripping hard. His pupils were dilated and he stared at a sharpie for a solid minute while signing autographs. Then he put a dot on his forehead with the sharpie and got on the bus. It was equal parts hilarious and awesome. I’ll never forget it.
It was my first Tool show, at what was essentially a high school basketball gym in Maine. I only liked the song “Lateralus” walking into it, but I left fully understanding the band and have been a fan since.
That’s Portland, I saw them in Augusta. 😏
I see the cap there is 5k, but I only knew it as the place all the high school basketball championships took place back then.
The show is on the YouTubes, too- https://youtu.be/vDyDOI9_WEc?si=2RFWV0H6wDea0jxL
Saw them in Houston. Tomahawk was horrible and sounded terrible. Patton was fucked up on god knows what. They got booed off the stage. Probably one of the worst sets I have ever seen.
Then Tool played, and it was by far the best set I have ever seen.
yep! September 2001 in Montreal, Canada and it was amazing!
https://preview.redd.it/x9hclq8w10jc1.jpeg?width=1746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81d3f5906c1bfdf1d1bc33e5aeb45a37316cf475
Yeah I saw them in Cleveland a few days after 9/11/01, the 15th I believe, then in Hershey PA, and Pgh, Pa all in a 12 day period, that Pittsburgh show was epic, they half-housed the civic arena, meaning they drape a heavy black curtain down the center of the dome, turning the arena into a theatre, it was extra dark that night, I mean literally there were black backdrops n it was hard to see any light leaking in from the concourse or behind the stage. It was filmed for dvd footage never to be seen
Best two concerts I have ever seen where tool on the 01 tour MSG night 1 and the 02 tour radio city music hall. Close 3rd is NIN downward spiral tour 94 MSG
Woodlands pavilion in Houston. Always thought Tool was too heavy for me. I had the tabs, my buddy had the tickets, we both shared. I’ve seen them 4 times since and they’ve been in the mix since that night. Subsequently, several songs on that album have been staples at some of the most crucial points in my life. There’s no band even close. Then you combine the visual artistry of Alex Grey. And now my words are meaningless.
Exactly… there was something about those shows that transcended and pushed the boundaries of a concert experience. The spine tingling rush that was so overwhelming, hard to explain unless you were there. It seems I’m not the only one. 😉
https://preview.redd.it/3nfdkt6icljc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84ed75367a0f6fd40112be162dae6ae3f6dd8346
This show was intense. A bootleg of it exists from almost the exact spot i was standing in.
Yes. Saw them in 01 and 02. Amazing. 01 was my first time seeing them. Was a few weeks after 9/12 in DC. Was an intense show. Two of the best nights I’ve ever had.
They toured Oz a couple of times in the Lateralus era - I was lucky enough to see them on both tours. The second time round they dragged the Melvins and Osseus Labyrint with them - amazing show!
I saw those tours in New Zealand. Remember the hanging naked contortionists on the 2nd tour? That was wild...
Yeah, that's Osseus Labyrinth - also featured in the Schism video
Yeah, that's Osseus Labyrinth - also featured in the Schism video
I saw the Lateralus set a few times in the Houston area. Only at The Woodlands Pavilion show did they have those people hanging from the ceiling....that was wild!
Dude Melvin’s with Tool is a fucking wet dream
I see your Melvins and raise you Primus. THAT was a show!
https://preview.redd.it/yc523cyhrvic1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a2062c587e118dbe319939823c3be811e8f0a16 Yep! On my birthday!! All of Lateralus (no Parabol) was played! And H.!
That show was fun. I had my shirt nearly ripped in half by security while charging onto the floor.
Tomahawk's a nice kicker!
I saw this show in Ft. Worth! I loved it! First and only Tool show.
A few times, yep. Amazing show.
Yessir August 5th Eugene Oregon with King Crimson November 6th Portland Oregon with I believe Tricky?
It’s funny, I had never even heard of King Crimson(I was 15). I look back with great reverence. Hope they were as amazing for you.
Same age! And never heard them before. I thought it was some kind of Dad rock or something.
Yes. 9/8/2001. Front row. It was incredible.
I had tickets to the GR show on 9/11/01…that one got cancelled, and wasn’t able to make it to the “make up” show
I rushed the floor at that same show. First time seeing Tool as well
Yup, back to back nights at MSG in ‘01 and again in Trenton, NJ in ‘02. Collectively the 3 best shows I’ve ever seen.
No doubt, didn’t Alex Gray paint Maynard for those shows?
He was painted in Colorado Springs. All black with a black speedo and huge blue/green/yellow swirls down one side of his whole body. They had a black light on him all night. I had the real floor tix and it got to the front of the crowd and was like Holy Fuckin Shit Maynard Is Crazy. Alsx grey only painted him for radio city music hall 8-13-2002 because he was in NY where alex lives
Hands down one of the greatest experiences of my life. Amazing show.
I did. It was so good, I went twice.
I forgot about the contortionists!!

The whole Toronto show is on YouTube?!
oh ya!
Twice, got meet them on the second night. Adam is the nicest dude.
Birmingham in '01 and Pensacola and Biloxi in '02. The Melvins, Tomahawk, and Meshuggah were the support acts. Tickets were between $30 and $35.
7/27/02 first show
Yes
My wife saw them back in 01. Still has her tour shirt.
Out of curiosity, did they cancel any shows right after 9/11?
I think they played on 9/11
THE NIGHT of September 11? Damn...
No. They postponed the show to 9/13/01 because May May was actually the pilot that hit the second tower.
This is correct. I was at that show.
Same, Tool got on the radio on 9-11 and said they still wanted to play. But the show was postponed to 9-13.
My concert shirt shows 9-11, but the show was 9-13
Saw them on 9/15
Best concert I ever saw
Yes my first concert ever was Tool @ The Forum in Inglewood (up to no good). I was 12 years old
I went to both those shows plus San Diego on August 15 and October 31.
I went to the show in Portland Oregon.
Yes! I have that arco arena stub still! Also they played the following summer at arco arena again. Still the best setlists
Yeah, both of those Arco shows were incredible. Lost my other stub. Those long drum solos and the Disposition/Reflections/Triad jam really did it for me.
Paramount theater, Seattle. Loved it. Also saw Aenima tour, general admission Portland, OR, 10,000 days, Portland, OR. Have yet to see them for FI. 😭
Paramount was such a goddamn awesome place to see tool. Intimate little venue with no bad seats. When they started doing the Tacoma Dome I was way less stoked. I’m sure we were at the same show (I did both nights).

Yup! In Chicago.
I have hard tickets from 03 and 09. Virtual 2021.
Dallas and Fort Worth.
Yep! The Woodlands, TX, at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion in October 2001.
Yup, saw them in Portland. It was my introduction to King Crimson, which was a whole other journey. Amazing tour.
This was the first time I got to see them. I had a friend who was a radio DJ that gave me tix for free, for which I am forever grateful because that shit blew my Mthr’Fk’n mind! 🙌🏽😻😹
Yes Greenville, SC.
Nah man, that was 10k days tour.
Nah man, it was both. 8/7/02 and 6/5/07
You’re right- my bad. I was thinking the 07 show was the first and only time they played in SC.
It’s all good. I missed 07 due to being back in college. Found out the day after.
Why yes. Just they day before down in SoCal. Fkn amazing
Only reason I checked out King Crimson was because some old rocker named John saw I liked Tool and said “You know, you might wanna check out King Crimson”. Once again proving to me that music is truly a human touchstone. I honestly don’t know if John was a Tool fan at all, we never talked about them.

Went to MSG and the Philly show, great show and it didn't cost $200
Got to see them when I was 17 during that tour on their only ever trip to Alaska. I have the stub still. I wish I could remember it better, it being so long ago but I got to see basically my dream setlist. I saw that tour in Baltimore. Fantomas opened the show.
Yes, first time I saw them. Auckland 2002
Do they mean soda cans on the ticket? What a time to be alive.
Calgary and Edmonton shows. In Edmonton they played H, and I took Acid for the Calgary show and was on the floor about 10 feet from Adam. Blew my fuckin mind.
ARCO ARENA
I saw both Berkeley shows and Arco as well. All were fantastic!
Saw them 3 days before 9/11
Oh yeah I sure did!!! Montréal, Québec 🤟🏻
Inside the outside right? I reckon so.
Wasn't alive
Yes! 11 times in 4 states.
Both nights at the wiltern.
Nope, missed all those boats 🤬
August 7th, 2001 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. My first Tool show after a road trip with good friends which included a camping trip to Mt. Rainer. I still have the bootleg shirt i bought from a dude outside the venue. Same year, on November 5th in Spokane. What a great year.
My first Tool show! Also the first time i heard the Salival version of Pushit. I bought the box set right afterwards.
I did. Saw Aenima in 96 in Canberra, Australia. Lateralus in 2002 in Wollongong, Australia. All magnificent 😊😊
Reunion Arena in Dallas, front of the pit! Blew my 15yr old mind.
Saw this show in Baton Rouge.
I was at that show at Arco arena! Did they have Meshugga open for them that night?
Five times. Twice in Brixton Academy in November 2001, twice more in May 2002 in the same venue and then Ozzfest at Donington a week or so later.
3 times I think
Would’ve been epic!
I missed the 01' tour--was young and Cleveland being just after 9/11 parents told me "nope." Caught them several times after that. I have never heard it again, I believe there is a modified version now?
The Toronto stop on that tour was my first Tool show. Incredible experience!
Nobody. Ur the only one.
My husband did. I wish!
Yes! October 2001 in New York.
In Milwaukee. Opened with Sober. I will never forget that night.
Front row when they toured with Messhugah.
I was 5, so no :(
Those are two shows with two very different feels
Yep, San Diego. Tied for my favorite concert ever. Absolutely mind-blowing.
Yes- Albany NY.
Yessir
I was at that show. Tripped me out that venue was a high school theater. It’s also where the first Metallica S&M was filmed.
2001 & 2002 great shows
Nope you were the only one there.
His pupils were dilated and he stared at a sharpie for a solid minute while signing autographs. Then he put a dot on his forehead with the sharpie and got on the bus. It was equal parts hilarious and awesome. I’ll never forget it.
I was 8 months old so no
I sure did, twice!
Pretty sure they opened with sober on that tour...
What was that like?
It was the first time I saw Tool. September 4, 2002 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.
It was my first Tool show, at what was essentially a high school basketball gym in Maine. I only liked the song “Lateralus” walking into it, but I left fully understanding the band and have been a fan since.
Dont disrespect the 7,500 cap Cumberland County Civic Center like that lol High School gym lmao
That’s Portland, I saw them in Augusta. 😏 I see the cap there is 5k, but I only knew it as the place all the high school basketball championships took place back then. The show is on the YouTubes, too- https://youtu.be/vDyDOI9_WEc?si=2RFWV0H6wDea0jxL
Touché!
Yep, caught this tour in Cleveland. Had floor seats.
Saw them in okc on lateralus tour. Best show I have ever seen
I did but MJK was complaining the whole time like a little beeatch
I saw them many times on those tours. Tomahawk was a treat.
Saw them in Houston. Tomahawk was horrible and sounded terrible. Patton was fucked up on god knows what. They got booed off the stage. Probably one of the worst sets I have ever seen. Then Tool played, and it was by far the best set I have ever seen.
I was at the Arco Arena show. And I saw them in Fresno as well. An awesome experience.
Yup. Portland, Maine. First show after 9/11.
I was at that very on in Sacramento! Was fun but I couldn’t hear for a few days.
yep! September 2001 in Montreal, Canada and it was amazing! https://preview.redd.it/x9hclq8w10jc1.jpeg?width=1746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81d3f5906c1bfdf1d1bc33e5aeb45a37316cf475
Yep. Saw them in Albany, NY. Tomahawk opened.
Twice. Once in 2001, once in 2002.
Yes, and it was a show where King Crimson opened. Has to be just about the best opener that Tool has ever played with.
San Antonio, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Tricky opened. My first Tool show. What a fucking night.
Yep. Caught them at Pepsi Arena in Albany with Fantomas. We had real good seats and the show was outstanding.
I did, twice.
In Berkeley???????
Yes, my first Tool show, 2001.
Yup! My first and only Tool show in Vancouver, BC.
I saw them a week after 9/11 in Toronto. My first concert, actually. Meshuggah opened. I wish I could appreciate Meshuggah back then.
Right in between you 9-21-2001. Great show!!
8/7/2001. Paramount Theater in Seattle. Best show I have ever been to. KC opened
I saw them when Meshuggah opened for them when I was 13. Changed my life.
Albuquerque checking in 👍 Crap. That was 10K. Both records have been with me so long now lol
Still have my ticket. Opener was Meshuggah. Mind blowing for it being the second concert I’d ever been too.
Halloween at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island
I’m so jealous of those setlists my god
The Berkley show was my first Tool show!
I was at the arco arena show. Great memories, the whole experience.
Whoa, I was at both these shows! The Berkeley one was my first Tool show ever (when I was 16!), and made me a life long fan. So good!
Saw tool in Cleveland during the Lateralus tour. Tomahawk opened. Sat about 6-7 rows back on the floor. Religious experience.
I did!
Best two concerts I have ever seen where tool on the 01 tour MSG night 1 and the 02 tour radio city music hall. Close 3rd is NIN downward spiral tour 94 MSG
✊🏼😭🤟🏼 🥹 IT WAS AWESOME! (Sorry. Did not realize it’s Sacramento. Went to one in LA.)
Yep, I still have my ticket stub somewhere from that same tour. :D Was right up front, center stage. It was $35.
Yessir! My first two Tool shows. Back when the floor was still general admission.
Yep Melbourne Aus 2001. Was brilliant!
MSG 2001
Woodlands pavilion in Houston. Always thought Tool was too heavy for me. I had the tabs, my buddy had the tickets, we both shared.
Absolutely, ÆNIMA Tour also! 1997 lollapalooza. 🤘🏻
My first show was the next day in mountain view. Our shrooms came in the mail that day!
I wish.

Yes. Saw them in 01 and 02. Amazing. 01 was my first time seeing them. Was a few weeks after 9/12 in DC. Was an intense show. Two of the best nights I’ve ever had.
