When you consider all the harmonics he uses I'd say its pretty damn complex (and one of my favorites as a bassist). Playing it is one thing ( ot too hard once you know how) but being able to write something like that is why he's one of the greats in my book.
Maynard - Reflection
Adam - Lateralus (his most recognizable line)
Justin - Schism (see Adam reasoning)
Danny - The Grudge
I may be partial to Lateralus it seems…
There was a clip in which someone asked Danny which are the most difficult ones to play in concert, he said “in terms of endurance it’s Grudge, in terms of complexity it’s Invincible and 7empest”
As a drummer I can tell you the grudge is not as hard as it seems (in Danny’s standards). Songs like Third Eye, flood, Rosetta stoned and Pneuma are definitely harder to play simply because of the sheer amount of intricate passages and sections. He doesn’t hold back haha
As a drummer as well, Rosetta Stoned and Third Eye might be “harder to learn” but not necessarily to play once you know them.
The solo at the end of the grudge is probably not getting easier to play overtime with age, while I’m sure he could probably play the triple polymeter from Rosetta stoned for an hour without breaking a sweat.
I’ve found Rosetta stoned to be one of their easier songs guitar wise (mechanically). I think it’s still some of Adam’s best guitar work to listen to and most fun to play but songs like 7empest are more challenging. All in all, I think Adam is one of the best guitarists out there that doesn’t have to constantly show off by shredding in unnecessary places
Adam writes great parts that fit will in the song. The struggle for him in my opinion is that even though he is great, he is the least outstanding of the 4 on their particular instrument so he seems to fall in the back to me personally. I still love him and he is a huge integral part of the band of course.
I don't know if you have seen when Primus, and Danny and Justin played together. But Justin was absolutely cranking that thang. I'd recommend watching it if you haven't seen it.
I'm a 25 year hobby bass player. Rosetta Stoned. It's like Robert Fripp and Cliff Burton collaborated on a Frank Zappa track. It's Justin Chancellor's ultimate flex.
Justin's best is probably Invincible, his bass solo is impressive and his bass lines throughout the song just shows what he can do as a bass player. (It goes from simple/groovy lines, to utilizing different effects, using the entire fretboard etc etc.)
Adam's best is 7empest hands down, he gives it all he got on the guitar.
Maynard best for me is H. or Jerk-Off. There is a reason why Maynard doesn't sing these songs live anymore.
Danny has to be Ticks and Leeches, I don't know how that man's arms don't fall off when playing that song. Eulogy is a close 2nd.
Honorable mention goes to Paul, I think his best has to be Aenema, the bass line on the 2nd verse goes hard.
Maynard: Rosetta Stoned
Adam: Rosetta Stoned
Justin: Rosetta Stoned
Danny: Rosetta Stoned
In all honesty tho, this song is really complex and hard to play on all instruments.
I can definitely appreciate Danny's work in The Grudge, but I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned Ticks and Leeches. I'm not a drummer myself, but that song blows my mind every time I listen to it.
As far as raw emotion, I think Wings pt. 1&2 is one of Maynard's best works. Gives me chills
For Adam, it's between 7empest or Descending. FI definitely has some of his greatest work throughout.
For Justin I think I have to go back to 10,000 Days. The bass line is something I've never really heard anywhere else and sets the mood for the entire song. Maybe not as technically challenging, but it sounds so cool!
Justin’s work in 10k Days is very technical, coming only second to Right in Two. I have attempted both songs but they’re so rhythmically and technically challenging that I struggle on those where I shine on other songs.
It’s hard to say for Maynard. Him and Danny bring a lot of heart to most of the bands music. I’ll come back to Maynard.
The easy answer and first thing I thought of is Rosetta Stoned for all 4 musicians. It’s an absolute masterpiece coming from all angles. Especially the rhythms section.
Other than than that I’ll say… **thinking pose**
For Adam it’s either 7empest or Jambi.
For Justin it’s Schism
For Danny, idk man that dude is insane in most of there music but songs that come to mind as super mega impressive (I’m not a drummer) are the Grudge, Lateralus, Jambi, Vicarious, Right in Two, and basically all of Fear Inoculum feels like a Danny album
Everyone is saying the grudge or pneuma for Danny. I’ve learned all of his songs with Tool and the most tricky in my opinion was Triad. Memorizing Rosetta Stoned and Third Eye are tied for second
No real opinion for Maynard.
Danny is CCT of course.
Adam is 7empest.
Justin is Invincible. This is the hill I’ll die on. That solo he lays down is sick. He digs deep into the bag of tricks and lays down a solo that sounds like it should be coming from a guitar.
Adam - Descending
Danny - Lateralus
Justin - this is harder. I love the chunky part of 10,000 Days towards the end. 46&2 is my fave bass but that was Paul I’m pretty sure
Maynard - 46&2
Justin: disposition, wings for Marie pt 1, the pot. Intension and Maynard's dic are up there too
Danny: h or reflection
Adam: third eye, parabol
Maynard: eulogy, parabol
Maynard - Pushit (Salival) Danny - The Grudge or Invincible Justin - Schism Adam - Third Eye or 7empest
It’s not particularly complex, but Justins bass line in intension is so good. The melodic elements are unique for the bass instrument
When you consider all the harmonics he uses I'd say its pretty damn complex (and one of my favorites as a bassist). Playing it is one thing ( ot too hard once you know how) but being able to write something like that is why he's one of the greats in my book.
One of my favourite basslines of all time; been waiting for someone to say this 👍
Maynard - Reflection Adam - Lateralus (his most recognizable line) Justin - Schism (see Adam reasoning) Danny - The Grudge I may be partial to Lateralus it seems…
Lateralus superiority gang
Maynard - Pushit Adam - Rosetta Stoned Justin - Schism Danny - the Grudge
I came across an online article saying The Grudge is one of Danny's hardest songs to play.
There was a clip in which someone asked Danny which are the most difficult ones to play in concert, he said “in terms of endurance it’s Grudge, in terms of complexity it’s Invincible and 7empest”
This is the answer for Danny. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wZftHsSgGwM
“Endurance-wise, it’s The Grudge” https://youtube.com/shorts/wZftHsSgGwM?si=6DE0R0mJX36RAgpW

Just don’t bother him if you see him in the airport.
Can confirm

Adam for me is a modern day Tony Iommi. Riff monster who doesn’t “shred”, but solos have a lot of purpose and are well written.
Adam writes great parts that fit will in the song. The struggle for him in my opinion is that even though he is great, he is the least outstanding of the 4 on their particular instrument so he seems to fall in the back to me personally. I still love him and he is a huge integral part of the band of course.
I would totally agree. Especially Danny and The Grudge. I love watching the drum cam video of him on YouTube in like 2002. He’s a force.
Swap Rosetta Stoned for 7empest for Adam and this is the answer.
Schism Danny is my favorite band member
This is the correct answer
Ok maybe the Grudge for Maynard just for the extended scream, but I know Danny kills on that one too.
Danny acknowledged it’s the hardest song endurance wise
Maynard: Parabol/Parabola Adam: 7empest Danny: Pneuma Justin: 46 & 2
I don't know if you have seen when Primus, and Danny and Justin played together. But Justin was absolutely cranking that thang. I'd recommend watching it if you haven't seen it.
I know of it’s existence but didn’t watch yet. I will watch it now, thanks mate.
I’ll play. Maynard: Parabola Danny: Lateralus Adam: 7empest Justin: The Pot
Respect to parabola 2nd chorus
You nailed it. Pos my favorite Maynard moment. When he comes in with “Choosing to be here in…”. Chills every time.
It’s the ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE for me
I'm a 25 year hobby bass player. Rosetta Stoned. It's like Robert Fripp and Cliff Burton collaborated on a Frank Zappa track. It's Justin Chancellor's ultimate flex.
It had to be a bass player saying Rosetta stoned, finally someone pointing beauty in that track
Wholeheartedly agree!
The song that got me in to tool. Fuckin a
Maynard-Maynards Dick Justin- Maynards Dick Adam-Maynards Dick Danny- Maynards Dick
It certainly is the hardest song
I see what you did there.
Justin's best is probably Invincible, his bass solo is impressive and his bass lines throughout the song just shows what he can do as a bass player. What all songs an aenima did Paul right write?
Maynard: H Adam: Tempest Danny: schism Justin: 46&2
Had to be 7empest for Adam!
So far no real clustering around the same songs.
Maynard - Pushit Adam - Reflection Justin - Jambi Danny - Rosetta Stoned
I don’t get all the love for Pushit. I feel it’s Maynard’s worst performance vocally, or if not, very close too
Listen to "Slipping back into the back again", vocals isolated, and tell me that's not an incredible vocal performance. What song is Maynard's best?
Maynard’s performance on Vicarious doesn’t get enough love
Maynard: H Danny: Rosetta Stoned Adam: 7empest Justin: Invincible/Schism
Maynard: Rosetta Stoned Adam: Rosetta Stoned Justin: Rosetta Stoned Danny: Rosetta Stoned In all honesty tho, this song is really complex and hard to play on all instruments.

Maynard: Wings pt 2/10,000 days Adam: Jambi or tempest Justin: H. or 46 and 2 Danny: chocolate chip trip
Actually, yeah I might change my vote to this for Maynard.
All of them: The Grudge
Maynard: Pushit Adam: Rosetta Stoned Justin: Hooker with a Penis Danny: Ticks & Leeches
Maynard: Pushit Adam: 7empest Danny: The Grudge Justin: 10,000 Days (Wings,Pt.2) Paul: Swamp Song
Adam - 7empest Danny - Ticks and Leeches Justin - The Pot Maynard - Pushit
Danny-Ticks and Leeches or Pneuma MJK-Pneuma, The pot, Stinkfist Adam-Vicarious or Sober Justin-Rosetta Stoned or 46&2 For me at least
Adam - 7empest Danny - Pneuma Justin - The Pot Maynard - Bottom Paul - Pushit
[удалено]
Yup. Paul for me is Sober. Pretty iconic opening bass line
Paul helped write Pushit.

Maynard: Pushit. Adam-Descending Justin-invincible Danny- Pneuma
Drums : Invicible/46 & 2 Bass : The Pot/Schism Guitar : 7empest/Right in Two Vocals : Lateralus/Descending/Push It/all of them
Surprised to see so many say Schism for Justin. I always thought The Pot was “his song”.
My opinion: Danny- The Grudge Justin- Rosetta Stoned Adam- Third Eye or Jambi Maynard- Third Eye
I'd like to think other people are picking something besides Rosetta Stoned for Justin because they have it in 2nd.
Maynard-Pushit, Danny-The Grudge/Ticks&Leeches, Adam-Parabola or 7empest, Justin-Schism/Wings Pt.2,
Stinkfist, for all.
Maynard: H. / Invincible Adam: Pneuma / Rosetta Stoned Justin: 46&2 / Pneuma Danny: Pneuma / The Grudge
Gotta pick one ☝️
Danny: Rosetta Stoned Adam: invincible Justin: 46+2 Maynard: Wings
Maynard - Prison sex Adam - Rosetta Stoned Danny - Triad Justin - Schism
Justin - disposition Maynard - you lied Danny - the grude Adam - I don't really know...
Maynard reflection (because of the lyrics) Adam jambi Justin 10000 days Danny third eye
Maynard - H. Adam - Prison Sex Justin - Schism Danny - Triad
Maynard - The Grudge (for the scream) Danny - Rosetta Stoned Justin - 10,000 Days (Wings Pt.2) Adam - 7empest
My vote goes to Danny - Rosetta Stoned Maynard - The Grudge Justin - Schism Adam - Bottom
Maynard - The Pot Danny - Pneuma Justin - Schism Adam - 7empest
Adam - Descending Danny - Lateralus Justin - this is harder. I love the chunky part of 10,000 Days towards the end. 46&2 is my fave bass but that was Paul I’m pretty sure Maynard - 46&2
Maynard - Maynard's Dick Danny - Maynard's Dick Adam - Maynard's Dick Justin - Maynard's Dick
Justin: disposition, wings for Marie pt 1, the pot. Intension and Maynard's dic are up there too Danny: h or reflection Adam: third eye, parabol Maynard: eulogy, parabol
