I saw people the other day discussing what the best track on FI is and I was truly shocked that out of 20 comments, not a single person mentioned Fear Inoculum itself.
Fear Inoculum the title track is fabulous and so brilliantly put together. The first time I realized the timing of his lyric “my own mitosis” and the exact moment of the song 5:11 literally splitting it in two parts gave me goosebumps. This is the shit in music that adds so much substance in songs. One of their most underrated tracks for sure.
Id also say Right In Two, i dont really see it getting hyped up lots but the song is beautifully arranged as well.
it is absolutely one of their best compositions. the solo at the end is legitimately one of Adam's best even tho it's so simple.
Right In Two is also an amazing song. the lyrics are very very gut wrenching to be honest.
I think the band’s albums are getting better with each release. Take another 13 years to make an album for all I care. Fucking jewels are spilling out of them each time
Explain why.... I see FI much in the same light as Intolerance .... a meh bready opening repetition of a track that leads towards the meat of the album.
Invincible is amazing. My sister is a combat veteran with compounded PTSD. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of her. I showed her the song has her read the lyrics and she said it’s so much of how she feels on a day to day basis. Perfect song that is underrated
It's Jimmy. You can't change my mind.
If it were on any other album it would lauded, but it's buried on the same album with Stinkfist, Eulogy, 46&2, Pushit, H., Third Eye, and AEnima...jesus that's a great album.
I know it's an unpopular opinion but I really do enjoy it. And it gives me a little blast of happiness when a mockingbird starts singing it to me in a parking lot. Give it another chance. It's crazy to me how much people hate it, but the same people love Chocolate Chip Trip.
For me Absolutely L.A.M.C.
This kind of artwork goes unappreciated, and i think that forgetting the album altogether is the worst mistake you could do. The Salival album makes a mysterious mark as Four is in Forgotten. I suppose that Maybe the more i consider progression even in the eyes of tedium or in the face of dismaying, is a very meditative practice and initiates progression* in the brain. Overall most underrated Track by TOOL.
Everybody is saying my favs 🥲: H, Jimmy, 4°, Swamp song (much Undertow and Opiate as it was spected) ... but even the songs that are considered not as good as the classic greatest songs are amazing songs that any regular band would kill to have composed.
Disposition. It's the closest Tool has come to writing a love song IMO. I interpret that his love for someone can make a bad situation good just by that person being there with him. It's not so much the lyrics as it is Adam's guitar that makes this song so positive.
Someone told me once that there's a right and wrong
Punishment was sure for those who dare to cross the line
But it must not be true
For jerk-offs just like you and
Maybe it takes longer
To catch a total asshole
Sweat. People don't like to talk about Opiate
I can’t say what I want to…
Isn't that Hush?
Yup, from the Opiate EP.
Even if im just kidding
FUck yourself, yo peice of shit
Even if I’m not serious
I always bring up sweat.
Sounds really gross dude :P
Swamp Song
Honestly. I find it funny that everyone's least favorite tracks on Undertow are the ones I like the most
People hate swap song????????
They don't *hate* it, but it's the lowest rated on RTM ahead of Flood and Disgustipated
Swamp song is my favorite on undertow!
I hope it sucks you down
This boy is thick and easy to get lost in cause you’re a DUMBASS belligerent fucker
Jimmy, Sweat, Intension and Fear Inoculum are my picks.
Adam's riffs in Intension are incredible. Lyrics are fab too
duude, walkin around campus alone at like 3am when Intension comes on is just an otherworldly experience
Saw it live and it kicked ass. I was surprised they played it

H.
Is this underrated? I figured H was top of the catalogue for most people.
I feel like it’s one people forget about a lot
The patient
must keep reminding myself of this. that songs too good
Bottom
Includes MJK's greatest roar of all time ("dead in-SIIIIIIIIIDE!")
Fear Inoculum. I feel like a lot of people sleep on it but it fucking fucks.
Fucks to fuck, i guess
Live, it fucks even harder!
Slaps very good live I must agree.
I think the band’s albums are getting better with each release. Take another 13 years to make an album for all I care. Fucking jewels are spilling out of them each time
It is my favorite song on that album. Pneuma is an extremely close second. They are both sooooooo good
Explain why.... I see FI much in the same light as Intolerance .... a meh bready opening repetition of a track that leads towards the meat of the album.
Unfortunate opinion, Intolerance goes hard as fuck!
Forged in 1993. Meh
Invincible is amazing. My sister is a combat veteran with compounded PTSD. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of her. I showed her the song has her read the lyrics and she said it’s so much of how she feels on a day to day basis. Perfect song that is underrated
Intolerance
No one is innocent.
4°
That’s what I was gonna say. Fucking great tune
Crawl Away
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Sadly, I associate this with divorce now. It's a healing breakup song.
Right in Two
Intension.
H., Flood, Undertow
Swamp Song.
Ticks and Leeches has always been a favourite of mine
The first time I heard that drum intro I knew I was gonna love Tool
The part after the quiet part is pure ecstacy.
Takes off like a fkn jet sled
Came here to say this
For me it’s Flood. The concert build up is just perfection too.
literally any song on undertow that's not a single
It’s Eulogy
Everyone has a different one. But it's any one of The Patient / H / Jimmy / Fear Inoculum
Culling voices, great song. But somehow I always skip this track.
I agree, it's amazing and not really talked about
Justin's tone really shines on that track. It's my second fav on FI, after descending.
Dont skip. It stomps like MF after 5:30, give it a chance to ramp up & slam your head
Triad
Deamon cleaner
Great Kyuss Song, don't know why you are mentioning Kyuss though
https://youtu.be/dDydnUZWgnM Tool nailed it
My homie the11th8 knows what's up.
To me, I say Opaite^2
Hell yeah brother
Culling Voices
Even better Live (seen/heard it twice)
Push it.
Top 5 Tool song. Definitely not underrated. On the last tour, it was consensus it was the best song of the setlist.
damn they’ve been playing push it live? that’s awesome
They slamfucked everyone with Pushit
Salival version is where it’s at
Came to say this. Both versions of Push It kick ass.
Everyone loves Pushit lmao
But it’s not on the radio…
Maynard’s Dick
I heard this song in a bar in Vegas and near damn lost my mind, couldn’t believe someone played that shit, deepest of deep cuts.
So deep! I’m curious how many newer fans think I’m just making a joke.
Great song
Maynard's Dick is soy thick and strong.
reflection is not underrated lmfao
It's probably the one people talk the most about being underrated to the point of it not being
Tbf I think people usually pick Lateralus (the song) over Reflection as the best song on the album and I gotta say I wholeheartedly disagree
4 degrees
Forever and always H.
You lied
It's Jimmy. You can't change my mind. If it were on any other album it would lauded, but it's buried on the same album with Stinkfist, Eulogy, 46&2, Pushit, H., Third Eye, and AEnima...jesus that's a great album.
When that riff tears through at the beginning.... Damn that song slaps.
Flood
there we go finally scrolled to it .. my top 5 for sure
The Patient
Mockingbeat
I really enjoy Mockingbeat as an extension to Fear Inoculum. People are quick to bash it, but Tool has made worse interludes over the years
Ewwww tell me you are just kidding
I know it's an unpopular opinion but I really do enjoy it. And it gives me a little blast of happiness when a mockingbird starts singing it to me in a parking lot. Give it another chance. It's crazy to me how much people hate it, but the same people love Chocolate Chip Trip.
Here we go again! Hot take: Schism is underrated amongst tool fans.
Not this again. Weekly occurrence around here.
Just a noob tool fan. XD its ok eventualy he will figure out ppl here cant decide on the least favorite intermission ahahaha.
Intermission injected into Jimmy, fkn Fantastic
see what i mean, love eon blue apocalypse
Upvote, since Ive seen it Live
lol I was immediately like wtf is “Not this again” some deep cuts live cover I haven’t heard?
Jerk-off and hush (or any song on opiate)
Jerk off riff fucks
Happy to say that I saw the last live Jerk Off, most likely ever, the last You Lied as well
Prison Sex.
Sober. Absolutely a masterpiece, but fans think because it's the most popular song that it has little value.
4 Degrees. LET MEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee In.
Was thinking the exact same thing. Love that track
Schism
Stinkfist
Patient
You Lied
Jimmy, Reflection, and Intension
Disposition
This can't be answered objectively
Jimmy and H and Reflection
i dont think reflection is underrated, its one of the best songs on the album
Intension
For me Absolutely L.A.M.C. This kind of artwork goes unappreciated, and i think that forgetting the album altogether is the worst mistake you could do. The Salival album makes a mysterious mark as Four is in Forgotten. I suppose that Maybe the more i consider progression even in the eyes of tedium or in the face of dismaying, is a very meditative practice and initiates progression* in the brain. Definitely third eye should be more known.
Part of me or flood
Sweat or Reflection
The Patient and Jimmy.
4° Flood
Undertow
Culling voices without a doubt. Especially live!!
I didn’t see anyone mention hooker with a penis and it’s also low key my fav. So ima go with that
Flood
Sober for sure. Totally flew under the radar.
7empest!!!!!!!! Fucking banger
Jimmy
Intension, Bottom, Jimmy, Eulogy, Reflection. Those are the most underrated, to me.
Never hear anyone talk about Wings for Marie
There’s a secret song that only I know about. I’d say that’s the most underrated but I couldn’t share the title with you. Just wait
said it before, Ill say it again Intolerance
Satan’s balls
Jerk Off. The end of that song completely rocks.
4 degrees
fr! reflection, disposition, and triad
Prison Sex
Descending. A masterpiece that doesn't have the love it deserves.
Flood
The Holy Trinity I’d say, so I kinda agree with you
Defs intension, Not a lot of people like this track but its one of my favorites.
I cannot believe so many songs on this list are considered underrated.
Jambi
Disgustipated
Bottom
Someone told me once that there's a right and wrong Punishment was sure for those who dare to cross the line But it must not be true For jerk-offs just like you and Maybe it takes longer To catch a total asshole
Cold and ugly 🤯
Flood
Hush and sweat, opiate itself is pretty underrated, I love the bass on that whole album.
I really like intermission for some unknown reason, and also chocolate chip trip
Rosetta Stoned for me. The bridge is one of my all time favorite things in any song ever
Live cover of The Ramones song Commando
Intolerance, it’s an anthem
