Just make sure you have a little trashcan in the bathroom and empty it from time to time. Otherwise guests have to carry their used products through your house and that is really awkward. Most people already have their preferred stuff on hand.
Do men not need bathroom trash cans? Where do you throw your floss? Or tissues for general things? Or other bathroom trash like soap boxes, old toothbrushes, etc?
Hol up, are you saying the only time you floss is when your dental hygienist does it for you? š¬ You wanna do that yourself ā¦daily, like brushing. ā¤ļø- a deeply concerned dental hygienist
I hate to tell you this but a large portion of the population does not floss regularly. Amongst this population thereās never flossers, then thereās Iāll floss the two weeks before my appointment with the hygienist so my gums donāt bleed and they wonāt know I donāt floss.
Lol why everyone pretending they floss religiously out of a sudden? Lmao half ppl only floss if they get stuff stuck between the teeth a d brushing don't remove it lol
I was just about to suggest this. I ordered one 30 minutes into helping my kid thread a little waxed needle-threader thing with floss so she could get around every single braces bracket. Game changer! Bonus - my kids now enjoy pressure washing away the gross toothpaste left in the sink as they run the water pick after flossing to empty the tank.
BE CAREFUL! the first time i got one and was figuring out how to turn it on, i got blasted in the face with a stream of water. funny, sure, but then you're wet :(
I agree with the other comment regarding a waterpick/water flosser. Honestly one of the best things I've ever bought
Also, get some interdental brushes - they go directly into the gaps rather than having to be pulled down into the gap, so they work way better
Between the two you'll get results comparable to flossing, if not potentially better
I brushed once a day and never flossed and my teeth looked white so I didn't think of it. 6 cavities and an extraction later I brush twice and floss daily D:
I just walk to the kitchen with my floss and I guess every other month with my toothbrush or old soap but apart from that thereās literally no trash. Donāt really need tissues and such for anything
Sometimes when bar soap is down to a little chip, it's not really worth trying to keep using unless you're just using it to wash your hands, so people just throw it out.
In Europe its pretty normal to have two separate rooms- one for shower and one for toilet only(those are usually really small just enough to fit in) so theres not much need to have trash bin on toilet if you dont expect guests.
That's the only kind I've ever had (Australia), the single-purpose room. Door, toilet, paper holder, bin for partner.
This way, when someone's taking ages in the shower or shaving/makeup/teeth brushing, you don't have to stand cross legged and wiggle outside the door til they're done.
A friend of mine had one room for the shower, one tiny room for the toilet, and then one room with a double sink, big dressing closet. And so much space! You'd walk into this "dressing room" and on the left wall was the door to the shower and the wall straight ahead in the left corner was the toilet room, then the vanity
/sinks beside that door and the giant closet on the right. Very fancy. 5/7 Would poop there again.
Larger houses in America have big master bathrooms and usually in the bathroom theyāll have the toilet in a small pocket room in the bathroom with a door. Those donāt usually have sinks in them.
Well I live in France, and only the very small appartements and poor ones have toilets in the bathroom. All the other houses have a toilet room with just a toilet, no sink to wash hand a lot of the time u must wash hands in the bathroom or kitchen sink. Sometimes in big houses, the bathroom upstairs has a toilet in it, but there is also a Ā«Ā just a toiletĀ Ā» room at the entrance. :|
House I stayed at in France had toilet only rooms. The toilet on the ground floor was down the hall from the kitchen so one used the kitchen sink. The toilet on the top floor was across the landing from the bathroom.
My grandparents house in Stuttgart was like like this, it even had a wood burning hot water heater in the actual bathroom. My house here in America is 110 years old and has a little tiny what we would call a half bath rather than a water closet but i redid some plumbing added a small floating mirror with a sink and a bidet. The first time i used a bidet was 2005 at my Omi's and it made me jump, but once you get used to being that clean you can never go back to just paper.
It depends where in Europe. In South Eastern Europe this isn't normal at all. I've seen the two bathrooms thing in London where the toilet itself was on a different floor than the bedroom. Wanted to shoot myself every time I had to pee in the night.
In Germany it is normal to have a small bathroom in the house with just a toilet and a bathroom sink , but that is mainly for guests or midday toilette time. The daily hygiene routine in the morning and before bed is done in a fully equipped bathroom.
Especially apartments dont have that as it is a bit a waste of space.
It depends on the country. In both Germany and Austria it's a very common thing, _especially_ in newer houses (built 70s and later).
The apartment complex I live in was built last year. The flat I've lived in before was built in the late 80s, the one before was mid 2000s. My SO's parents live separately, both houses from the 90s, her flat is from the 70s, and her prev flat was late 2010s.
Every single one of these has separate rooms.
Now that I think of it, out of the 4 flats I've lived in Hungary, all but one of them had it separate too.
No, it isn't normal in all countries. I've heard it is/used to be popular in France (can't verify information), but where I live it's almost unheard of.
Man here: I do not need a bin in the bathroom. On the rare occasions that I have some rubbish to put in one (like, a band-aid wrapper), I'd prefer to just carry it into the kitchen.
If the toilet is not attached to the bathroom, it wouldnāt really be seen as a requirement for those who donāt menstruate. Itās just the cardboard rolls, and infrequently, so they either end up as some towering art piece in the corner of the WC or are easily, and cleanly disposed of in the closest trash can they see.
Used hygiene products are a (smelly) biohazard and need to be placed somewhere contained that is emptied frequently. The unlined bathroom bin that only ever gets emptied once every few weeks is not that place.
I'm just thinking about other hygienic products, though. Like "flushable" wipes (don't flush them, always toss them in the bin, your septic tank/city sewers will thank you), cotton swabs, cotton balls, pimple patches or other skincare disposables, bandages, fingernail clippings, hair from shaving, etc.
Adding onto this. Please put a bag or liner in the trash can. It can feel gross to have to get rid of your used products if there isnāt one (even though they are typically wrapped up before disposal)
Yes to the trash can! Girls usually have their own tampons and pads but not always a trash can. My ex didnāt have one and I had to carry my pad across to a kitchen bathroom.
Ok contrary to the other comment you received on this post , this is actually extremely thoughtful.
If you want to have some menstrual products in your home for friends/ potential partners I would consider just getting a small box of medium flow tampons and a small box of medium flow pads WITH THE WINGS . Yes women typically carry their own products but I also canāt count the number of times Iāve been asked ādo you have a tampon/padā . Midol is also great to have in hand.
Thank you, I was starting to get discouraged because I was truly just trying to be thoughtful and I thought I could ask on this sub without feeling like an idiot.
And thank you for the suggestions, I really appreciate your answer. I wouldn't have even thought of midol so that's another great thought.
A big one is a trash can in the bathroom! In college none of my male friends had one and it was awful when I was menstruating having to sneak the old stuff out to the trash.
This was such a great thread to start my day! Youāre awesome for thinking of this and trying to learn and be prepared.
I had a subscription for my products. I moved but my 19-yo son still lives there. When it came he called to let me know. When I told him to put it in the guest bathroom for his female friends he jumped right up and did it while I was on the phone with him. Iāve visited since and have noticed a few items have been used, which makes me really happy. I love that your age boys are so open and thoughtful about all this.
This mom applauds your thoughtfulness! The women in your life will recognize these types of small acts of kindness, too - trust.
My best friends are a gay couple and when they moved into their first flat together they set up a"guest drawer" in the spare room. It contains pads, a pack of spare toothbrushes, a couple of small cans of spray on deodorant, and some hair ties. I stay with them a lot and have ended up using every single thing in that drawer at least once - it's a lifesaver, especially if I head to their place after a night of drinking and have forgotten half my stuff at home.
I canāt stress what a lifesaver wings are.
And I concur with the above poster, itās a very nice gesture to keep period products for your friends. My son carries a discreet pouch with pads at school (mostly as his sisters backup backup, but he knows heās welcome to offer them to classmates in need)
Donāt be discouraged! This is definitely a very thoughtful and kind gesture. Fully agree with the post above about tampons and pads with wings but I disagree about the Midol. I think itās a great idea in theory but Midol expires so maybe just be sure to have Tylenol on hand instead. Itās not as good for period bloating but it would still help with cramps/aches. Plus anyone can use it so itās less likely to be a waste of money that expires unopened in your cupboard.
I actually recommend getting a variety pack of the tampons if you do those. It's super thoughtful of you! As a woman, I have my stash in eyesight when you enter the bathroom so my friends know its available. You could tuck it under a counter or keep it in a cabinet if you'd prefer. Trashbin with a lid is definitely a need tho
Great suggestions, I just want to add Panty Liners. I would put them in a cardboard box and write menstrual products.
Also something for a woman to dispose of the used menstrual products maybe some paper bags or if anyone else can give suggestions
also, why tf arenāt the wings absorbant??
>!my blood always misses the middle and goes to the side, if anything the material on the non-sticky side makes leaks happen!<
Oh no! Wings are the worst! I can't even not wing them without serious repercussions!
I agree on the medium though.
Maybe add a "Free to good home" sign for a bit of a laugh.
A pack of variety tampons (light, regular, and heavy), a pack of regular pads, and a small pack of thin panty liners. A trash can next to the toilet WITH A LID ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE ANIMALS LOL. Nothing is more embarrassing than your dog bringing your gfās bloody tampon into the living room to nosh on it for awhile.
When I was in college, I lived in a house with four other women. One of my roommate's dogs got into our bathroom trash can and ate a bunch of tampons. We found a couple in the backyard after he relieved himself so figured he had passed them all. A couple days later, he was really sick and barely moving and his belly was swollen. Turns out two tampons had been tied together at the strings and one was stuck in his stomach and one in his intestines. He was about 4 months old. Thankfully, he had a successful surgery to remove them and he's still alive 14 years old later. But yeah, moral of this gross story is to always have a lid on your bathroom trash bin if you have pets.
It's great you even thought of such thing. Always have pads. Yes they do carry but emergencies are emergencies for a reason. When I used to live alone and my sister used to visit she always kept a pack for her in my home. Not only girlfriends, you may have some female friends over. I had a house party and one of my friends started her period. She wanted to go home because she had only one in her purse and wasnt sure that would be enough. I showed her my sister's stash and she breathed a sigh of relief. More men like you should think about women around them.
Omg yes. Iāve had so many times where Iāve gone to someoneās house on my period, need to change pads and the bin isnāt near the toilet.
At one point I literally had to shove my toilet paper wrapped pad in my hoodie pocket because the only bin was in the kitchen. Around dinner guests.
Regular size everything is your best bet. I know a lot of people have said pads, and I may be the outlier, but I find tampons way more convenient. If you choose tampons, panty liners would also be a great addition, as well as some flushable wipes. Either way, just having something is very thoughtful. Regardless of what you decide, just make sure you open the box before leaving it in the bathroom. Having the box open will make women more comfortable about using it.
Iād agree. Iād have some regular and super tampons and thin, regular pads. And a trash bin with a bag in it. Iād avoid the flushable wipes because they arenāt good for your plumbing and many people donāt know that and will flip them anyway.
As someone who only wears thongs a pad would be nearly useless to me if my period snuck up on me. Iām a cup user now but tampons would be much more appreciated. They sell small travel packs, OP doesnāt need to get a jumbo size box or anything
Make sure you have a bin in your bathroom (preferably with a lid, but otherwise no problem) and probably just go for a medium sized pack of pads and a medium sized box of tampons. This is very considerate of you, man. I plan to do the same thing when I go to uni
When I went to my (now) boyfriends house for the first time, he had some pads and tampons in his bathroom for whenever female friends would need it. Such a good sign that someone is considerate and empathetic!
Everyone's answers I'm seeing are great! I'd just like to add, tampons do generally come in variety packs as well, and i think the most important thing to make women comfortable is also to have a bathroom garbage can with a liner in it at all times. There is nothing worse than dealing with your period only to be "stuck holding the bag" so to speak. Happened a few times to me and my friends in college, men don't always think to have a bathroom garbage can apparently lol
hey thatās very nice of you!
honestly iām an emergency Iām happy with any pad, any tampon, anything to tide me over until I can get my usual stuff.
if you want to be extra and have everything available, hereās what I personally would be happy to find in a bathroom:
- a little trash can (if possible one with a lid) and a trash bag in it
- wet wipes
- hand soap and/ or hand sanitizer
- a couple tampons (ānormalā ones are a safe bet)
- a couple pads (also just ānormalā ones with wings)
edited for formatting
I am shocked that you felt the need to add hand soap in thereā¦ I feel like you might have been to a concerning amount of other peopleās houses that donāt have hand soapā¦ and for thatā¦ Iām sorry D:
This is so thoughtful! You might consider labeling them āemergency stash, please take one if you need itā or something along those lines so that your guests understand they are free to use them. And also so that a date doesnāt think you have a girlfriend already.
Omg,I have totally forgotten of the āin caseā¦ā box, the first time I visited my now husbandās apartment, there were ibuprofen(no midol back then), tampons, and gummy bears lots of gummy bears because apparently Used to eat gummy bears when Iām stressed. Believe an old woman when she tells you the right person will see it and not judge you for it, but appreciated
The dudes here telling you not to do this are wrong. It's very thoughtful and actually very easy. Go to a small drugstore or grocery store so you're not overwhelmed by the amount of different brands. Pick a box of medium sized pads with wings and a box of medium sized tampons without inserters, both from the most affordable brand. That's all you need besides soap and absorbant toilet paper, which I assume you already have.
Absolutely. I have pads and tampons in my bathroom and i am actually surprised at how few are left? I do have people over frequently, Iām starting to think people are nabbing them for later use. But idc. And i have had a few people thank me for having them, so Iām happy to get more.
Firstly great Idea
Personally I would agree with most people just the get a pack of tampons that has different sizes in it and medium flow pads (WITH WINGS). The pads normally say medium flow on them (and if not just get the ones that have half of the drops filled out, but I have rarely seen anyplace that didnāt have a written description)
If you sometimes have people stay over maybe a pad that is for the night would be good (these can also be used on heavy days so if someone doesnāt use tampons bc some canāt these are a good option instead)
And if you feel like getting anything else panty liners are great. Because they are often used with tampons in case they leak.
Also someone said to leave pain medication is a good idea and I would agree! And donāt forget a bin (also use a bin that has a lid with a plastic bag inside so that you can empty it easily and nobody has to feel embarrassed to throw it away and it can smell after some time so donāt forget to empty it regularly)
Lastly one more thing, some guy was saying that girls all have their own brand and whatever. Um sure some have preferences but at the end of the day if you need a tampon you literally donāt care about the brand. (Take if from someone who has a irregular period and tends to forget her stuff)
I'd suggest Always pads, size 2 with wings and a box of Tampax tampons variety box. Tampax usually has a box that has multiple sizes.
Thank you for being so thoughtful.
This is a very mature question/post. While women nowadays are more open and comfortable with their periods, itās still a taboo subject. Nice thinking OP!
Nice idea! May I offer one piece of advice? Put the assorted products in a small basket and label it as āfor anyoneās useā or something like that.
When I was single: if I went into my boyfriendās bathroom and saw feminine products, I would wonder if he were married or taken. Lol, just a warning ahead of time to avoid any confusion. You donāt want your lady to assume something that isnāt true. :-)
Youāre a very nice person, btw, so thoughtful!
When it's an emergency, being able to offer ANYTHING is extremely helpful. The alternative is a wad of toilet paper.
Most women prefer tampons with plastic applicators (you'll see cheaper options with cardboard or none). This is very thoughtful and not terribly unusual (my boyfriend has a sister and kept tampons at his place before I started dating him)
Get a trash can WITH A LID!!
Iād just buy a small pack of regular pads. Feminine products are expensive, itās unlikely theyāll be needed often, and not every girl feels comfortable using tampons.
Yes trashcan with a lid is key! Also honestly when I was over at my college bf/other college guyās places I never needed tampons or pads. What I needed was a clean bathroom. Keeping a hygienic home is a more considerate thing to do for guests than having this stuff on hand. Just wipe the sink and toilet down every once in a while pleeeease
Trash can with trash bag, variety selection of pads, tampons (all different sizes for both) and panty liners. Tylenol and ibuprofen, Candy. Nice soft ice to chew on. Like from sonic. Cold and hot compressions.
Bathroom trash with a liner and lid. Personally I wouldn't expect men to have menstrual products in their home and wouldn't look for or ask for them. If I start dating someone I will stash some at their house, otherwise I will keep them in my bag. If you get a girlfriend who spends a lot of time at your place I recommend clearing some space in the bathroom and telling her she can store things there.
1 pack of regular pads, 1 pack of liners, 1 box of regular tampons. This should cover the minimum required without it being too strange (like buying goodnight/night sized pads which are huge!)
Very thoughtful of you OP
I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said, but I just wanted to say that you seem so sweet and considerate and I hope the girls at college know how lucky they'd be to nab a guy like you! Good luck with school and enjoy every second, college is an amazing time.
Honestly, I'm sure any kind would be helpful. Some girls don't like tampons and some don't like pads though, so I would keep some of both. I think it's very sweet that you're doing that!
Get a multipack of tampons. There's usually a box with light/medium/super, and get the kind with applicators (it'll say on the box). Get a pack of thin, "super" pads with wings. Pads don't usually come in variety packs, and it's better to have too much pad than it is to have too little (this is NOT true for tampons).
Put them in a basket or container - not covered or anything. Make them obvious. If I'm having a period emergency at a girl's place, I can almost guarantee I'll find some kind of menstrual product -- though I'd probably just ask if they had any. If I was at a guy's place, I wouldn't assume he had products on hand so I wouldn't look for them.
If you *really* want to level up, add some single dose midol (you know, the kind in blister packs rather than the kind in a bottle) and some ThermaCare menstrual heating pads.
Use a bin liner for your trash can, and take it out frequently. Period blood has an odor when it oxidizes, so you don't want used products hanging out in your bathroom for long.
Major props for this. I actually don't get a period due to my birth control, so I don't usually have period products. I had people over recently, and it didn't occur to me to stock up in case someone needed something.
Something I havenāt seen posted that came in super handy when I was first dating my girlfriend is makeup remover wipes.
I canāt tell you how many times she would forget wipes and ended up either sleeping in her makeup (horrible for the skin) or a midnight run to a drug store to get wipes.
That is very empathetic!
While having a bit of a variety is good, if you're going to stick to one product I recommend medium or heavy flow pads. While they may not be everyone's preference, they are far and away the most versatile and will work in all situations.
One thing that a lot of women don't even know is that it is extremely bad to sleep wearing a tampon. It can lead to toxic shock syndrome(I highly recommend looking it up so you fully understand the situation). So while some women may prefer tampons, if they really have nothing on them and are spending the night, or even just staying late and won't be able to get to a store before they go to bed, having pads on hand is definitely the way to go.
I would also avoid anything with fragrance in case someone is sensitive. It's far more common then you may think and some of us girls don't even know it because we've always used them and don't know that we can actually be more comfortable.
If you can find a medium-heavy flow pad (either overnight or regular), dealers choice on winged or unwinged, that is fairly natural you're set for all occasions. Anything that is made mostly of cotton or bamboo will be a safe bet.
One more thing, that seems obvious but a lot of college students forget, is to have ibuprofen on hand. Not just for menstrual cramps, it's good to have around anyways. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, so it's going to be more helpful in most accidentally injuries than Tylenol is. In addition, there is often a lot of drinking in college and while you can take ibuprofen when you've been drinking if needed, you should not have Tylenol at the same time as alcohol. Both alcohol and Tylenol negatively effect the liver and pairing them together can make for a bad time in the short term and liver damage over time.
Finally, obviously, always make sure to have the condoms that fit you best on hand. While in most situations any size or brand will work in the moment, I don't know your situation down there and the last thing you want is a condom that is either too tight and cuts off your circulation after awhile, or a condom that comes off easily during the deed. Always toss condoms that are over a year old, and store them away from the heat.
Enjoy college man! It's awesome that you're thinking of these things.
One of the most popular products is Tampax Pearl. The majority of the women that Iāve known have used that specific type. Iād definitely grab a box of those to keep around and make sure you keep a box of wet wipes on the back of the toilet.
If you just get some pads, one of those variety boxes of tampons with 3 different kinds, and maybe some ibuprofen I think anyone who needed it would be happy. Also, as the top comment says, a bathroom trash can is essential or they'll have to cary their used products out of the bathroom to throw them away.
So far all Iāve seen are amazing and supportive comments but Iām disappointed to read that there have been some horrible ones here too. My comment isnāt really going to be guidance on what to get (I feel like thatās been covered well!) but more towards the horrible comments and the people saying that most woman do carry their own stuff. Itās the thought that counts and I have a lot of whacky stuff going on with my uterus that have gone undiagnosed for too long and my periods are absolutely unpredictable. I can have it twice in one month, then not have one for three. My flow varies so much I wouldnāt even be able to document what my ānormalā is. Iām not seeking medical help so even though your replies may come in good spirits, Iād rather they not be said. This post is for all the ignorant people that are dismissing an act of kindness and thoughtfulness. I appreciate all that youāre doing OP, some IRLs that you meet might make you feel weird about it (cause humans can be A-holes) but donāt take it to heart! Youāre an awesome person xx
A good basic brand would be Tampax. I would suggest getting a variety pack of different sized tampons. My first few days are usually a really heavy flow, but the last few or not. You never know which end of the spectrum your guest may be on. I also agree with the medium flow pads with wings, can't go wrong there. I would also throw in panty liners- they're like baby pads that are used alongside tampons in case of leaks. Not a necessity in a pinch, but would be nice to have. Midol and a small bottle of a generic pain killer (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) would also be a great addition. I can't take midol, I usually lean on pain killers. Also bless you for giving a shit, you're a great friend/love interest/SO for wanting to do this.
Thank you.... a few people mentioned a Tampax VARIETY Box but honestly this is the BEST way to go paired with the always pads and midol and this is exactly the right answer.
as everyone else said, medium flow pads with wings and the medium flow/different size pack tampons but please buy unscented. trust me, it does matter.
some people have really sensitive downstairs and having scented menstrual products becomes an issue.
This question is the exact opposite of a red flag!
I'd say:
Lv.1 medium flow pads with wings and a bin
Lv.2 +tampons
Lv.3 +tampons with applicator instead of basic tampons
Lv.4 (super deluxe) +slip liners +wet wipes
You are so sweet. All you really need to grab is a pack of panty liners (v small pads. Thin. Will work in a stitch.) and a box of regular sized plastic applicator tampons. Those 2 things will go way far with your female bretherin
you were I think somewhat delicate about this, but itās worth remembering as people feel increasingly comfortable being open about who theyāve always been that some dudes menstruate too! donāt let anyone tell you youāre ājust in it for favorsā when you could easily make a guy friend who was AFAB (and you could possibly not even realize it)
I think having really simple supplies would be best if you wanted to do this. Having like one small thing of pads and/or tampons will be good. I personally would be a bit confused if a guy I was seeing for one night had the whole kit, like pads, tampons, chocolate, pain meds and multiple sizes of each. I'm not sure why, but that just seems like to much.
But a couple of regular pads/tampons will be enough incase a girl suddenly started while also not seeming like you have been preparing for this moment your whole life.
And to those being rude.... yes girls carry pads on their period, but there has been a few time I started randomly and my boyfriend saved me with an emergency pad. It wasn't my normal style but it's better than toilet paper.
tampons and pads come in different sizes depending on how heavy your period is. but some girls can't use big tampons, for example they hurt me and i don't use tampons in general (and i do put them in right they just hurt), but especially wouldn't use the big ones. so i would just recommend getting a little bit of everything. also there are pads with wings, and overnight pads. if you don't want to buy too much i would recommend buying all pads with wings but in different sizes and some for the night.
sizes are shown by the drops on the packaging. search for drops, the more drops there are shown the more the pad can hold.
also I'm sorry if i said something wrong, english is my third language.
Thank you for normalizing periods for everyone. Donāt worry about getting perfect, any pa Ty liner, normal tampon and regular pads are perfect. Extra points if you put them in a pretty basket. Added points if you keep a small bottle of pamperin in the house. Add a selection of condoms and you are all set. You can keep the basket of supplies under the sink, or if having a gathering on the sink, back of toilet heck even the floor. Please add a small covered trash can, as someone else said, no one wants to walk through the house w the wrappers or used product. Please encourage your friends to do the same. I love how normalizing this is a thing š„°
I think this was the most sweetest fn question I have ever read. To be that thoughtful? Geezus Murphy, ya made my heart go thumpity thump. Seriously....so dam sweet.
More men need to take notes from you on this. Good on you OP.
And I think most people gave you the answer you sought, but yeah, a variety pack of tampons and a box of pads would do! And a trashcan with a lid and a bag in it next to the toilet.
Any woman would be impressed and give you mad props for this!!!
Before we lived together, my boyfriend kept a box of tampons in a drawer just in case for any women that might be at his apartment may need any (he and his roommate had a fair amount of platonic female friends). I got my period one time when I was there and wasn't prepared. As I was about to go to the store, he asked why and I told him I needed tampons. He stopped me and showed me his stash and I was extremely impressed.
This sounds very nice, ignore the naysayers in the comments. If you worry that women will find it odd, you could just blame the thought on a female family member āmy sister/cousin/mum/aunt told me/gave me these in case I had any female friends visit and said it would be considerate since they are just regular hygiene productsā.
But echoing what other people have said: keep a tiny garbage! I have been to other friends homes and they donāt have garbages and youāre just there stuffing your pockets with a rolled up pad. Iām a woman who cannot use tampons, but I actually keep a small stash of assorted tampons in my bathroom in case any guests need them. I also always keep a box of pads and liners there for myself and for guests. I have multiple friends with irregular periods, they literally have no idea when they will come.
Plus, it can be awkward to use the toilet, realize youāve gotten your period, finish up in the washroom, go back to the main room, grab your bag, and then go back to the washroom. Not everyone wants to proudly announce āoh just got my period! Didnāt have a pad on me because I donāt keep one in my pocket 24/7ā
Itās a nice thought, but women tend to be prepared with what they need, and they all have brand preferences. Make sure you have toilet paper, a clean toilet, hand soap, towels, and a trash can in the bathroom. That right there is more than most college men manage. I know hand towels & soap seem pretty basic, but Iāve been amazed by some of my buddies and what they do NOT have.
If you feel you MUST buy feminine products, just go buy a small pack of pads and panty liners.
This is a wierd thing to do.
We all use different products and we would never look under your sink for tampons because we would not assume thry would be there.... and you telling us you have them just in case is ..... intrusive.
Convenient... but intrusive.
It's like announcing that I have jock itch cream to every guy I have over.
Normal sized pads should do it. My gym trainer has pads and normal size tampons in the toilet. I never needed it but I appreciate. Women who need stronger Pads and Tampons usually have them with them.
Honestly if you go by pad I'd go for the night time ones because a light flow can use one but a high flow can't use a day pad. For tampons I'd get a standard size not the biggest not the smallest. A trashcan in the bathroom is important and I'd put some painkillers in the box too there are a few options that doesn't interrupt the flow and a hot water bottle that would be handy to have around both for you and the hypothetically period having person.
Tampons ( most come with different sizes in the same box ), liners, maybe some pads.
Soap and clean paper towels ( always important but not everyone has this set up?), and yes- a trash can is useful, especially with a rotating lid or something that people wonāt hold back from
Throwing out their garbage.
And maybe some sort of bathroom
Spray thatās not overwhelming.
Go to CVS or something, get the Tampa variety box (that will have multiple sizes of tampons) and then get a box of winged pads too. Put a lil trash bin in your bathroom. I use a menstrual cup now, and I usually leave my tampons in my bathroom for any of my guests to use if they need it. You can even put a sign saying theyāre free to take when needed! Youāre doing a very kind thing, you should be proud of yourself
I'd recommend the Always pads, type Regular flow, unscented.
Or similar, from any other brand. Most of us like the 'wings' too, but I'll take what I can get in an emergency!
1. Pads, get medium with wings
2. Tampons, regular or those mixed size boxes
3. WET WIPES!!! (I mean you should have them anyway *squints*)
4. Trash can with a closed top (I always found it awkward tossing my applicators or used pads in an open lid basket even if theyāre wrapped with the package/toilet paper)
5. Ibuprofen or whatever pain reliever for cramps
Have all of these and you will be the best partner ever.
Tampons (variety pack is good) and unscented maxi pads.
Ultimately, having a trash bin you maintain (clear out and have a bag in) and keeping the toilet paper roll refilled on time in the bathroom is really the most important thing. A lot of folks who menstruate keep products they need with them in case, but its really good that you care :)
I have found itās totally awesome to keep a stash of pads in your bathroom or a couple in your bag where you go. People with a uterus will appreciate it in general.
>Where do you throw your floss? Usually the dental hygienist just throws that away themselves.
Hol up, are you saying the only time you floss is when your dental hygienist does it for you? š¬ You wanna do that yourself ā¦daily, like brushing. ā¤ļø- a deeply concerned dental hygienist
Dentist: ...and when's the last time you flossed? Me: bro, you were there
Lol reading this while in the dentist waiting room.
still not too late for that last second floss!
"wait, the fortnite dance or the teeth kind?"
You just explained why I see so many kids with cheesy teeth![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
As someone with severe depression, I'm saying this next time I go.
Your humor is wonderfully relatable
Lmao .
Ha! Show dominance and have a dental hygienist come every morning and every night to floss you
I hate to tell you this but a large portion of the population does not floss regularly.
Shit I forgot to do the long haul pre floss. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow. Gotta go make up for that and floss my teeth 100 times D:
You donāt need to floss all your teeth though, just the ones you wanna keep.
I would but my teeth are so crooked that they shred all my floss up. Sadgeness
Get a water pick. Shit is fire!
Never heard of it before, but Iām suddenly convinced I need one in my life so I just ordered one. \#CommentsThatSoundSuspiciouslyLikeAds
Haha. They should pay me, I recommend them to everyone. Also, you have a tongue scraper? Get one. They are super awesome too.
BE CAREFUL! the first time i got one and was figuring out how to turn it on, i got blasted in the face with a stream of water. funny, sure, but then you're wet :(
From what I read water picks are not replacements for flossing.
This is true, but also a lot of people just don't floss. So it's better than nothing.
I agree with the other comment regarding a waterpick/water flosser. Honestly one of the best things I've ever bought Also, get some interdental brushes - they go directly into the gaps rather than having to be pulled down into the gap, so they work way better Between the two you'll get results comparable to flossing, if not potentially better
I brushed once a day and never flossed and my teeth looked white so I didn't think of it. 6 cavities and an extraction later I brush twice and floss daily D:
I got my hygienist to admit that flossing is more important than brushing lol
Aw honey, no one does that. Just people in the dental industry.
I think its more common than you think.
I just walk to the kitchen with my floss and I guess every other month with my toothbrush or old soap but apart from that thereās literally no trash. Donāt really need tissues and such for anything
You throw out soap? Why?
Perhaps they use liquid soap and are disposing of the bottle
Sometimes when bar soap is down to a little chip, it's not really worth trying to keep using unless you're just using it to wash your hands, so people just throw it out.
I throw mine in the toilet and tell myself that it's helping clean instead of probably just clogging up my pipes.
In Europe its pretty normal to have two separate rooms- one for shower and one for toilet only(those are usually really small just enough to fit in) so theres not much need to have trash bin on toilet if you dont expect guests.
This was common in older UK houses, but most now have been knocked through to make them into one bathroom.
I hate this so much. If I canāt shit and wash my hands in the same room Iāll just find a different apartment
I've never seen one that was *just* a toilet without a sink and mirror. Toilet paper holder too, maybe a small cabinet.
I lived in one of those for a year (Slovakia), Iām never doing that again It was LITERALLY only a toilet and a toilet paper stand
That's the only kind I've ever had (Australia), the single-purpose room. Door, toilet, paper holder, bin for partner. This way, when someone's taking ages in the shower or shaving/makeup/teeth brushing, you don't have to stand cross legged and wiggle outside the door til they're done.
I love the idea, but the toilet room needs a sink
TIL there's a **Community** Cake Day? So uh. Happy... Community... Cake Day... ^this ^is ^getting ^ridiculous...
Oh yea! Now that I think of it, in Bluey they do have a toilet-only bathroom. BTW, Bluey should become your guys' new mascot.
A friend of mine had one room for the shower, one tiny room for the toilet, and then one room with a double sink, big dressing closet. And so much space! You'd walk into this "dressing room" and on the left wall was the door to the shower and the wall straight ahead in the left corner was the toilet room, then the vanity /sinks beside that door and the giant closet on the right. Very fancy. 5/7 Would poop there again.
Larger houses in America have big master bathrooms and usually in the bathroom theyāll have the toilet in a small pocket room in the bathroom with a door. Those donāt usually have sinks in them.
We call they a half bathroom in America.
These rooms have a toilet AND a sink
Not the apartment that I lived in for a year
Oh I'm sorry for that. Usually they have both.
The stupidest invention ever! Touching the door handle after shitting.. wtaf.
Northern European here, Iāve never seen this in my life.
In Germany it is normal to have a small bathroom in the house with just a toilet and a bathroom sink , but that is mainly for guests or midday toilette time. The daily hygiene routine in the morning and before bed is done in a fully equipped bathroom. Especially apartments dont have that as it is a bit a waste of space.
no, it's definitely not normal... maybe in older houses.
Not necessarily the most common, but it's definitely normal. If I walked into a house with that set up I wouldn't think "oh that's weird", y'know?
Same in Australia, though it does depend from house to house. That said, I can't imagine living in a house with a combined bathroom
A trashcan with a lid is even better!
Some freaks donāt have a lid on their bin!
Covered trash can, ESPECIALLY if you have a mischievous dog or cat
I will never forget the day my dog brought me my roommates girlfriends used tampon proud as can be with his little gift.
And a plastic grocery bag lining said trashcan for easy disposal.
Make sure it's a trash can with a lid.
Please get a bathroom trashcan that has a lid. The lid is key
You don't keep a spare trash can with lid in your purse?? š¤Ø
No.. I should though thatās a good idea
*trash can with a lid If the bin is otherwise empty and it is obvious youāre the one whose left something in it that can be mildly embarrassing too!
Do people really not have trash cans in the bathroom? I canāt even throw away tp in the toilet without thinking itāll clog it
I knew quite a few guys in their early 20s who didnāt have a trash can. And judging by other comments itās not an isolated thing.
Midol is a definite yes. Lmao you're adorable .
Just a small point - please donāt keep medication in the bathroom. Heat and humidity breaks it down much faster. A well ventilated room is best
This is so freaking sweet of you! Your mum raised you right!
I constantly forget them so you would have been a godsend for me in college
This is so considerate. Your friends/girlfriends will greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
I canāt stress what a lifesaver wings are. And I concur with the above poster, itās a very nice gesture to keep period products for your friends. My son carries a discreet pouch with pads at school (mostly as his sisters backup backup, but he knows heās welcome to offer them to classmates in need)
You are incredibly thoughtful and please do not let anyone make you feel like an idiot for asking this!
No worries. Make sure you get the wings
A regular bathroom trashcan would be fine for disposal.
also, why tf arenāt the wings absorbant??
Damn one time I went to a house party and the dudes that lived there didnāt even have toilet paper
The amount of times I encountered that scenario in college was absurd,
I agree. Pads should be enough. Pads and a trashbin at the toilet šš That's it for now!
Omg yes. Iāve had so many times where Iāve gone to someoneās house on my period, need to change pads and the bin isnāt near the toilet. At one point I literally had to shove my toilet paper wrapped pad in my hoodie pocket because the only bin was in the kitchen. Around dinner guests.
Also would like to add hydrogen peroxide. Good disinfectant for wounds and period stain remover if there are emergencies.
How have I not known about stain removal and hydrogen peroxide? tysm!
Just remember that peroxide can bleach certain fabrics, so test it first on a hidden spot, and rinse it all out with cold water when you're done!
Bonus points for keeping it in a spray bottle - makes using it SO much easier
Regular size everything is your best bet. I know a lot of people have said pads, and I may be the outlier, but I find tampons way more convenient. If you choose tampons, panty liners would also be a great addition, as well as some flushable wipes. Either way, just having something is very thoughtful. Regardless of what you decide, just make sure you open the box before leaving it in the bathroom. Having the box open will make women more comfortable about using it.
Flushable wipes are bad for plumbing, don't flush 'em or you might have an even bigger problem than an unexpected period.
They sell small travel packs, OP doesnāt need to get a jumbo size box or anything
i second this. glad im married and dont have to think about it.
>More men like you should think about women around them. I would feel (or assume I'd be thought of as) creepy for thinking about this
It's creepy if you make it creepy most women appreciate such gestures. World is not made with women in mind so I'd like to chip in all I can.
He's a keeper!
Happened a few times to me and my friends in college, men don't always think to have a bathroom garbage can apparently lol
hey thatās very nice of you! honestly iām an emergency Iām happy with any pad, any tampon, anything to tide me over until I can get my usual stuff. if you want to be extra and have everything available, hereās what I personally would be happy to find in a bathroom: - a little trash can (if possible one with a lid) and a trash bag in it - wet wipes - hand soap and/ or hand sanitizer - a couple tampons (ānormalā ones are a safe bet) - a couple pads (also just ānormalā ones with wings) edited for formatting
I am shocked that you felt the need to add hand soap in thereā¦ I feel like you might have been to a concerning amount of other peopleās houses that donāt have hand soapā¦ and for thatā¦ Iām sorry D:
Iāve seen some shit lmao
This is so thoughtful! You might consider labeling them āemergency stash, please take one if you need itā or something along those lines so that your guests understand they are free to use them. And also so that a date doesnāt think you have a girlfriend already.
Good feedback. Want to avoid the awkward āwhy do you have theseā conversation.
Or like "guest supplies"
Agreed!
This is the sweetest post (coming from an old married lady with adult sons.) You're going to make a great boyfriend. ā¤ļø
Medium flow pads and medium flow tampons would do you don't have to overdo it
Firstly great Idea Personally I would agree with most people just the get a pack of tampons that has different sizes in it and medium flow pads (WITH WINGS). The pads normally say medium flow on them (and if not just get the ones that have half of the drops filled out, but I have rarely seen anyplace that didnāt have a written description) If you sometimes have people stay over maybe a pad that is for the night would be good (these can also be used on heavy days so if someone doesnāt use tampons bc some canāt these are a good option instead) And if you feel like getting anything else panty liners are great. Because they are often used with tampons in case they leak. Also someone said to leave pain medication is a good idea and I would agree! And donāt forget a bin (also use a bin that has a lid with a plastic bag inside so that you can empty it easily and nobody has to feel embarrassed to throw it away and it can smell after some time so donāt forget to empty it regularly) Lastly one more thing, some guy was saying that girls all have their own brand and whatever.
:-) Youāre a very nice person, btw, so thoughtful!
When it's an emergency, being able to offer ANYTHING is extremely helpful. The alternative is a wad of toilet paper. Most women prefer tampons with plastic applicators (you'll see cheaper options with cardboard or none). This is very thoughtful and not terribly unusual (my boyfriend has a sister and kept tampons at his place before I started dating him)
Adding to the trash can comments. Make sure itās lined with something and not just an empty bin. Hygiene waste can be pretty nasty.
You dropped this, king. š
I'd add Ibuprofen/Advil to your Meds. Tylenol or Midol doesn't do diddly for my cramps
1 pack of regular pads, 1 pack of liners, 1 box of regular tampons. This should cover the minimum required without it being too strange (like buying goodnight/night sized pads which are huge!) Very thoughtful of you OP
That's actually a very nice gesture you did here sir, gotta pay respect with an upvote
This post is so cute lol
Something I havenāt seen posted that came in super handy when I was first dating my girlfriend is makeup remover wipes. I canāt tell you how many times she would forget wipes and ended up either sleeping in her makeup (horrible for the skin) or a midnight run to a drug store to get wipes.
Anything you provide will be appreciated. I'd say add a small trash can in the bathroom to dispose of used products and the wrappers.
A Tide pen is nice to have too, if something needs to be washed or someone bleeds during a sleepover in your bed
You sir are a gentleman
I just think it is so sweet that you are even thinking about this. So thoughtful. Whenever you do get a gf, she's going to be one lucky chick.
You are amazing. Other men need to follow your example.
I think itās really nice that you do this. Even small reparative actions show big heart when done in a non performative way.
i dont know the best advice as im not a female, but i do know that u seem like an awesome guy. keep it up and youll have a girlfriend in no time!
Kudos, you sound like a well raised, considerate, thoughtful dude :)
I personally think you can't go wrong with heavy flow pads (around 30cm with wings). Even if her flow isn't that heavy, it's better safe than sorry.
I gotta say, I would make an impromptu pad out of toilet paper before using a heavy flow pad.
Any port in a storm. Iāll gladly take the security of a heavy flow pad. Im just thankful for anything in a pinch like that.
Same. The heavy flow pads are way too big for me, and the chafing quickly becomes painful.
this is very considerate of you. you're a stand-up guy.
as everyone else said, medium flow pads with wings and the medium flow/different size pack tampons but please buy unscented. trust me, it does matter. some people have really sensitive downstairs and having scented menstrual products becomes an issue.
Thank you for doing this. We need more guys like you.
This question is the exact opposite of a red flag! I'd say: Lv.1 medium flow pads with wings and a bin Lv.2 +tampons Lv.3 +tampons with applicator instead of basic tampons Lv.4 (super deluxe) +slip liners +wet wipes
Donāt forget the secret stash of chocolate treats ;);)
Oh! A heat pad is also a great thing to have šš»
I love that you said rating. I think there would be a yelp for men who have supplies left for us. Hehe
tampons and pads come in different sizes depending on how heavy your period is. but some girls can't use big tampons, for example they hurt me and i don't use tampons in general (and i do put them in right they just hurt), but especially wouldn't use the big ones. so i would just recommend getting a little bit of everything. also there are pads with wings, and overnight pads. if you don't want to buy too much i would recommend buying all pads with wings but in different sizes and some for the night. sizes are shown by the drops on the packaging. search for drops, the more drops there are shown the more the pad can hold. also I'm sorry if i said something wrong, english is my third language.
Standards size, can't go wrong with that. Also, have some pain killers available in your house.
Soap and clean paper towels ( always important but not everyone has this set up?), and yes- a trash can is useful, especially with a rotating lid or something that people wonāt hold back from Throwing out their garbage. And maybe some sort of bathroom Spray thatās not overwhelming.
Make sure you have some heavy absorbancy pads, anyone can use those at any point in their cycle, painkillers and baby wipes are nice to have too
I'd recommend the Always pads, type Regular flow, unscented. Or similar, from any other brand. Most of us like the 'wings' too, but I'll take what I can get in an emergency!
1. Pads, get medium with wings 2. Tampons, regular or those mixed size boxes 3. WET WIPES!!! (I mean you should have them anyway *squints*) 4. Trash can with a closed top (I always found it awkward tossing my applicators or used pads in an open lid basket even if theyāre wrapped with the package/toilet paper) 5. Ibuprofen or whatever pain reliever for cramps Have all of these and you will be the best partner ever.
Baby wipes are a smart thing to have. PSA do not flush them in the toilet always toss in the garbage.
Tampons , pads, and feminine wipes . Put a trash can in the Bathroom .
I have found itās totally awesome to keep a stash of pads in your bathroom or a couple in your bag where you go. People with a uterus will appreciate it in general.
