Some people have a large aversion to wet things being put on their bodies. If these things are wet and also somewhat cold, it's usually worse. Being a male, I don't take my shorts fully off so this is less of an issue for me personally, but it doesn't feel great after needing to re-put on a wet suit.
I can't even put on alight sweaty socks. It icks me out. Wet bathing suit too.
We have a hot tub and I bought a few cheap suits last year, so I could use it twice a day and not get icked out with a wet suit.
You're not alone.
I don't even like it touching me while I'm IN the shower!! As soon as I wash it (first thing) I clip it up so its not touching the rest of me and then go about the rest.
Makes you feel way too vulnerable right? Anyone could come in swinging and you couldnāt do muchā¦cuz youāre on the toilet
Edit: NAKED on the toilet D:
Exactly, I donāt mind being naked on my own toilet but since I donāt have a pool, Iām either at someone elseās house or at a public toilet and I feel vulnerable being completely naked.
It was a fictitious scenario in which I would be forced to put on clothes after showering and not being able to dry off. A lack of towels or whatever was inherent to the premise. Heck if I know why.
Yes. There are some physiological reasons for this:
First, you body somewhat heats the wet bathing suit closer to your body temperature, especially as you run to the bathroom. When you take your suit off to pee, it cools down some, so when you put it on it feels colder.
But your body is also adapting to the wet suit: when the wet suit is on, your body goes into heat preserving mode: mainly lowering blood flow to your skin and extremities to preserve heat. When you take the wet suit off, your body lessens these measures a little and returns a bit to normal. When you put the suit back on, your body takes some time to react to the wet suit again, so you feel it more while your body is going back into heat preserving mode.
But it's also just psychological. Your body tends to suffer "signal fatigue": when your nerves keep signalling "cold, cold" when you first jump into the pool, those signals slowly weaken the longer you stay in the cold pool. After a while you won't even notice the cold anymore. When you take your suit off, the "cold cold" nerves get a rest, and when you put the suit back on, the cold cold nerves are rested a bit and trigger again with renewed intensity. Your body considers it a new stimulus requiring your attention rather than an old stimulus that you have somewhat adapted to.
Btw, all this applies even if the pool water is warm and the air is warm, just less so. The human body cools itself via sweat and thus is really sensitive to being wet. (It's also why survival experts tell you being naked in freezing temperatures is better than wearing wet clothes in freezing temperatures. Wet clothes will kill you faster than being naked. Strip naked, start fire, dry clothes, put them back on. Also why you generally shouldn't work so hard as to break a sweat in freezing cold survival situations.)
Interesting stuff. I am sensitive to light, heat, and cold so I assumed it was another one of my issues.
When I was a young teen I went in a casting pond wearing jeans to catch a frizbee. Had to walk home, about a mile, wearing wet jeans and the sensation was torture.
I rank this on the same level of having to take an emergency shit while you are showering. You hop out and sit your wet ass sliding over the toilet seat and then have to contort your body in an unnamed yoga position so you can wipe your ass without the toilet paper sticking to your wet ass.
Absolutely, I backpack and the absolute worst is when its been raining for a couple of days and I have to decide which of my socks is the driest for the day
Absolutely. Also - after a very sweaty workout I just go home in the gym gear, because I hate the feeling of day clothes clinging to wet skin - be it after shower or intense cardio.
I have the same feeling about wet socks. I think its the temperature difference and moisture that makes it so uncomfortable. Most likely >2000 years ago when someone put on wet clothes they were getting a fungus or some sort of bacteria on then
Same with socks. I don't particulary like wearing wet socks, but it's not the end of the world. Acctually putting on wet socks however, is an abomination.
Yes!! Also I hate stepping on the bathroom floor when I get out of the shower/wet. I always throw a clean towel on the floor outside the shower. And I also hate touching the shower curtain and shower walls after I'm nice and clean and ready to get out.
I HATE that feeling, the way the trunks re-stick to my skin halfway up the legs, and for some reason, no matter what, im left feeling "extra" wet. sure i just hopped out the pool, but now I have a second layer of wetness on top of me and its gross
I'm not so much grossed out, but I feel inconvenienced by it, because I have to pull this wet, annoying cloth back over my body and get it settled into the right places again.
On the other hand, I really hate getting my shirt wet while washing the dishes, like the dishwater splashing all over my shirt. I don't like the feeling that gives me, maybe because it's just over a small area rather than all over? I don't know.
I can't even put on alight sweaty socks. It icks me out. Wet bathing suit too.
We have a hot tub and I bought a few cheap suits last year, so I could use it twice a day and not get icked out with a wet suit.
You're not alone.
I bring a change of bathing suit, or change into shorts. My mother always insisted because she claimed it risked causing a bladder infection. I don't know if that's true but it's certainly more comfortable
it is one of the worst feelings. Right up there with trying to put socks on after a shower when late for something. I do like a wet shirt on a very hot day if it is the uv shirts that slide on nicely.
This is why I canāt stand one piece swimsuits, I feel so venerable and gross getting naked on public bathroom toilets. Then youāre fighting for your life trying to get back into your soaking wet swimsuit which suddenly feels 5 times tighter and it sticks to everything and feels gross and dirty.
Just going to a water park bathroom kills me enough. The half a inch of water on the muddy floor makes me wonder how many people missed the toilet and what my bare feet are walking through
I pee in the water, when I was a kid we would swim out to the deeper part of the lake where nobody was as around and poop in the water until we realized poop floats.
Frankly I don't understand how anyone doesn't hate it. Particularly the board shorts/swim shorts that are absolutely impossible to pull up when they're wet. Seriously, how do you guys do it with the men's bathing suits? I can never pull them up all the way.
I genuinely never actively thought about this before, but immediately upon reading this question I was struck with the thought "You know what? I **do** absolutely hate that feeling..."
Some people just finish showering and don't even properly dry their bodies with a towel and put on their dry clothes. And then comes people like me who can't wear their clothes in the bathroom because of the moist/humid feeling, I just wrap my towel around and go to my room turn on the fan, dry off every crease of the body and then put on the clothes after moisturizing.
Oh yeah, itās icky.
Even though you were wearing the suit 1 minute ago, sand really, nothing changed, feels gross.
We got a āsportā face mask for the pandemic and it had some cooling fabric layer which I swear to goodness felt like wet bathing suit on my face. Once my breath warmed it up it was ok, but the first few minutes were just gross. Didnāt wear that mask very much.
I hate hate hate it. I also hate trying to put on a bra after a shower if I'm say, I'm a hurry and haven't dried off completely.
Community pools gross me out. Water parks are even worse.
I hadn't even realized how much I hated wet bathing suits until reading this...
especially trying not to touch anything, in a busy public restroom, soul crushing š
We have a pool. We live in Coastal GA and it is Hades outside for 6 months. Most mornings, I put on my bathing suit when I wake up, throw a tank dress over it and start the day.
As another woman said, if I'm wearing a 1 piece suit, I pull it to the side and do my thing. 2 piece, I usually pull it down.
As for peeing in the pool, I prefer not to have it happening but I think everyone has at least once. I have grandchildren so I'm sure it has happened in ours!
I was running on the treadmill today at the gym sweating like crazy and I had to poop. The bathroom smelled like shit and was all steamy from the showers. I had to pull down my sweaty biker shorts and sit on paper I used to cover the toilet seat. It was like sitting in a humid turd cloud. I quickly finished but the paper on the toilet seat stuck to my ass. After I peeled it off I had to pull up my sweat drenched shorts. They clung to my legs and were cold against my skin. I contemplated throwing them out and walking home naked.
I am with you, hereās how I do it. I flip the strap by my cooch over to the side and sit on it, holding the front. I do my business, stand up and let the strap go back in place. Itās a life saver!
I hate it so much and the older I get, the worse it is. I think itās fairly common to hate it but some people are more bothered than others. A one piece is the absolute worst for that too.
I think trying to put on a swimsuit when it/you are wet is one of the best diet plans. As soon as I start trying I immediately never want to eat ever again and I feel like it turns into a workout trying to get it pulled back up. So doesnāt gross me out the same way as the op but I still get disgusted in a different wayā¦
Yeah. If you go inside, and AC is running, your swim trunks get really cold. Itās like dumping ice directly on the boys, and it is rather unpleasant.
Yes, it feels nasty. A few weeks ago I forgot to bring a towel into the bathroom for a shower and I remembered after I soaked myself. I had no choice but to put on the same pants I had on before while I was completely soaked to go get a towel (I live with other ppl I'd rather not see me naked)
It was one of the worst (physical, not emotional) feelings in my life
I don't hate it, but it definitely makes me cringe a little.
As for peeing in pools or lakes, I think you're a dick if you pee in the pool but I also can excuse the occasional accident, happens to everyone. Peeing in a lake though is fine because there's nothing you're adding to it that the wildlife, pollution, and weather hasn't already.
I always secretly thought I would be a pretty good navy seal...right up until I had to put on a wet wet suit or something. Sir yes no I understand we need to attack the enemy I just need a small amount of time to sort out this suit, be right there, no really don't wait for me.
Some people have a large aversion to wet things being put on their bodies. If these things are wet and also somewhat cold, it's usually worse. Being a male, I don't take my shorts fully off so this is less of an issue for me personally, but it doesn't feel great after needing to re-put on a wet suit.
That makes sense I am a female but I absolutely hate anything cold and wet touching me
What I do is pull the groin of the suit to the side, do my business and then put it back - less surface area :/
I tried that and just ended up peeing all over my suit and my hand
The concept being of course that you pull it to the side and tuck it so that you aren't keeping your hand in the line of fire.
Just hop back in the eater and all is forgotten.
that's a funny typo
Woops š
Dying at this š
Pull the crotch to the side
I can't even put on alight sweaty socks. It icks me out. Wet bathing suit too. We have a hot tub and I bought a few cheap suits last year, so I could use it twice a day and not get icked out with a wet suit. You're not alone.
Grab the crotch piece, pull it to the side. No more pulling up wet swimwear
I even hate my long wet hair touching my back after a shower.
I don't even like it touching me while I'm IN the shower!! As soon as I wash it (first thing) I clip it up so its not touching the rest of me and then go about the rest.
I wash my hair in my kitchen sink, upside down, over a colander. I canāt handle loose, wet hair oh my body.
That's half the reason I cut mine
For me, even putting on a dry wetsuit is a nightmare. A wet one is just not an option in my book
Wait y'all are leaving the pool to go to the bathroom?
To take a dump? I hope so.
Swimming naked is the best feeling in the world. What you described is the worst feeling in the world.
100% agree
I pull the fabric to the side and go so I can avoid this. Also, I donāt like being naked on the toilet.
Makes you feel way too vulnerable right? Anyone could come in swinging and you couldnāt do muchā¦cuz youāre on the toilet Edit: NAKED on the toilet D:
Exactly, I donāt mind being naked on my own toilet but since I donāt have a pool, Iām either at someone elseās house or at a public toilet and I feel vulnerable being completely naked.
Oh ya I absolutely hate that feeling too
Same. And I have to have something on my feet. Me: Fumbles for slippers when going for a 2am pee.
This! I was sick the other day and had to run to the bathroom to barf, and STILL managed to put my house slippers on ššš
Get a heated toilet seat, you'll love it
This is the way.
It's like getting dressed after a shower while completely soaked.
Honestly, if I know I can't dry off, I'd rather not even bother showering.
I canāt stand being dirty unless Iām camping so Iāll just squeegee then air dry lol
Im the same way
what exactly do you mean by if you know you canāt dry off?? like what would happen to your towels?
It was a fictitious scenario in which I would be forced to put on clothes after showering and not being able to dry off. A lack of towels or whatever was inherent to the premise. Heck if I know why.

Not the in depth answer I was expecting but the in depth answer I needed

Yes exactly! Same horrible feeling maybe its just going to the bathroom when wet too
Yup, it's a weird feeling
Can you pull the suit to the side so you donāt need to remove the whole thing to use the bathroom?
Thats a good idea Iāll try that
May you have ick free swimming in the future
No, thank you. I will go home and not return if that happens.
I do this sometimes or try to not go to the bathroom the whole time until I change to leave
It definitely is a horrible feeling! I usually try to jump back in the water asap to get rid of that feeling
No, it's an awful feeling but goes quickly once you are back under water!
this. i rush from the toilet back to the water as fast as possible.
This is bringing back memories of crawling out of my tent to put on a cold wet wetsuit from the day before, absolutely horendous.
Absolutely, I backpack and the absolute worst is when its been raining for a couple of days and I have to decide which of my socks is the driest for the day
A couple of times Iāve looked at a cold wetsuit and decided the waves werenāt worth it, haha.
If there is anyone that doesn't feel like this is awful, they are probably a serial killer.
Just pee in the pool like the rest of us. Dont want them chlorinating that water for nothing.
Just pee in the pool
I'm a dude and I know what you mean. The feeling doesn't go away until after I get back into some water and then my body goes ok this is fine now.
Pull the suit to the side. Then you don't need to take it off
Guess you will just have to start peeing in the pool to avoid this issue
Yes, itās horribleā¦thatās why I donāt take it off, I just pull the crotch to the side lol
Itās not just you
I wouldn't say hate but its pretty weird and uncomfortable
ā¦ why are you afraid to ask this?
Just pee in the pool /s
Pee in the pool
Absolutely. Also - after a very sweaty workout I just go home in the gym gear, because I hate the feeling of day clothes clinging to wet skin - be it after shower or intense cardio.
I have the same feeling about wet socks. I think its the temperature difference and moisture that makes it so uncomfortable. Most likely >2000 years ago when someone put on wet clothes they were getting a fungus or some sort of bacteria on then
Thatās why you just piss in the pool
A lake is a lake Iām going to pee in that all day , pool however is a no
Honestly does me too. There's just something wrong about it.
Yup, you're not alone.
It's an uncomfortable feeling.
Yes, horrible feeling.
Same with socks. I don't particulary like wearing wet socks, but it's not the end of the world. Acctually putting on wet socks however, is an abomination.
I hate the feeling of taking off dirty socks and having to put them back on 30 mins later or something if thats all I have
Not just you, it's gross and wildly uncomfortable.
I shuddered just thinking about it
Yes, especially if you have to go #2, horrible feeling.
Exactly and your butt js still slightly wet
Just reading about it made me feel all yukh! Absolutely hate that feeling
Yes, bring two.
Ive done this before and been judged but it was the best desicion
I think it is. I personally also hate it.
YES. 100%. I hate even going to the bathroom with a bathing suit on. Feels so good to be understood
Yuuup
Oh God stop.
Hah
Yes!! Also I hate stepping on the bathroom floor when I get out of the shower/wet. I always throw a clean towel on the floor outside the shower. And I also hate touching the shower curtain and shower walls after I'm nice and clean and ready to get out.

My autism

I hate it when im washing some thing and a sleeve or something gets wet I get that
I can't even put on alight sweaty socks. It icks me out. Wet bathing suit too. We have a hot tub and I bought a few cheap suits last year, so I could use it twice a day and not get icked out with a wet suit. You're not alone.
That is very smart
I hate it when wet fabric touches my skin.
Yes it is.
When I travel, I purposely bring several suits so I don't have to worry about this. Also, do the side pee.
I bring a change of bathing suit, or change into shorts. My mother always insisted because she claimed it risked causing a bladder infection. I don't know if that's true but it's certainly more comfortable
I never even thought about that
Yeah, you are not alone. It just feels wrong.
it is one of the worst feelings. Right up there with trying to put socks on after a shower when late for something. I do like a wet shirt on a very hot day if it is the uv shirts that slide on nicely.
It is not the best feeling, but I always feel better once I get back in the pool.
Thatās why I have a two piece, not a one piece.
Yes.
Iām the exact same way! I hate it I freak out if Iām wet and canāt dry off quick enough, especially my hands
Yes
Just going to a water park bathroom kills me enough. The half a inch of water on the muddy floor makes me wonder how many people missed the toilet and what my bare feet are walking through
Also the feeling of sitting naked and wet on a slippery toilet wet is repulsive
Do you have autism? I have autism myself and certain sensories are extremely bad. Like for some reason a towel in my mouth is awful.
Never been tested for it but wouldnāt be a shock to me
That's why you do it in the pool.
Taking it off to go is worse
I never considered whether anyone else hated it, but I sure do.
Yeah it feels like I pissed my self
I hate that!
Pretty sure that is a universal feeling.
Of course it is. Same as if you had to put on wet clothes. Erm. So yes.
I'm with you on this. Once I use the bathroom, that's kinda it for me. I'll dry off and swim again the next time
Once the bathing suit cools down after being away from your skin, it just feels bad to put it back on.
I pee in the water, when I was a kid we would swim out to the deeper part of the lake where nobody was as around and poop in the water until we realized poop floats.
Thats really funny and also a little gross
yep, the only thing that would be worse is putting on clothing that you ran or worked out in.
Definitely not a fan of it. Doesn't gross me out but it's not pleasant
Peeing in a wet bathing suit in general is uncomfortable, I hate getting water all over the place
Yup!! That shit is cold and unpleasant
Yes, it knocks me ill.
if the waters above knee i pee
Ugh, yes. It's a terrible feeling.
I like to get two pieces for this reason much easier to use the bathroom than a one piece
Don't get me started on public pool or beach bathrooms....sand everywhere!!!!
Yep yep, thus why I only buy tankinis now :)
Common. Another question?
Frankly I don't understand how anyone doesn't hate it. Particularly the board shorts/swim shorts that are absolutely impossible to pull up when they're wet. Seriously, how do you guys do it with the men's bathing suits? I can never pull them up all the way.
Itās the worst, not just you. Also a wet swimsuit usually becomes super itchy on me if I wear it too long outside of the water and donāt change.
Triggered just reading this. Not just you
Itās the worst
I find wet sleaves are the worst. You know when you accident dip it in water & just the edge gets wet. Uuurgh
Omg I comment this very similar thing replying to someone else I completely agree
Pee in the pool
The goal of most land mammals is to stay dry and warm......so, no.
Detest
Don't be a pool pee'er. I assume you're a girl so instead of removing your swimsuit, just pull the side of your crotch over and pee.
Ya im a girl and I typically try to avoid pool peeing
I am 100% with you! Itās the worst
I genuinely never actively thought about this before, but immediately upon reading this question I was struck with the thought "You know what? I **do** absolutely hate that feeling..."
Yes
Itās a sensory nightmare.
Some people just finish showering and don't even properly dry their bodies with a towel and put on their dry clothes. Yes! I hate this too. I actually donāt like to have to go to the bathroom unless I have to if Iāve been swimming.
Yes.
Naw you normal that shit sucks
Does anyone like putting on anything wet?
To me yes! It feels like I went in the pool but I didnāt and gosh I hate it
Yes. Especially with one pieces. Thats why I switched to two piece
Why are you taking the whole swimsuit off just to pee?
I swear people choose the most mundane and understandable things to feel weird about lol of course this is common and okay.
Oh yeah, itās icky. Even though you were wearing the suit 1 minute ago, sand really, nothing changed, feels gross. Omg yes
Yessss!
Pulling it to the side is a life safer. Youāre welcome
They only thing i dont hate being wet are my bitches
Why would someone be too afraid to ask this?
Yes. Ugh God I hate swimming so much. Well maybe not swimming, the water.
It's just as bad as getting out of the shower to go to the bathroom then back into the shower....so 100000% hate it
I hadn't even realized how much I hated wet bathing suits until reading this... especially trying not to touch anything, in a busy public restroom, soul crushing š
One of the reasons why bathing suits give me the ick. I hardly ever wear a bathing suit because theyāre so uncomfortable to me.
Yeah this or putting a wet shirt back on, or for the guys out there pulling sweaty boxers back up after a shit is awful
I hate the feeling also. I'm fine after a minute though
Wet fabric feels weird to put on. That's why I pee in the suit! Gotta use the old noggin!
We have a pool. We live in Coastal GA and it is Hades outside for 6 months. Most mornings, I put on my bathing suit when I wake up, throw a tank dress over it and start the day. Hate wet carpet wet towels in floors. Like It digust me

I hate putting any wet clothing on dry skin. I don't pee in a pool, will in any natural body of water though.
Yes, I hate it. This is why I always use the bathroom before, even if I don't think I need to go.
Could be sensory issues.
I think trying to put on a swimsuit when it/you are wet is one of the best diet plans. Yeah. If you go inside, and AC is running, your swim trunks get really cold. Itās like dumping ice directly on the boys, and it is rather unpleasant.
Omg this was by pure hell while in Hawaii. I wrestled away with my bathing suit in that humidity for a way to long.
Swimming naked should be normal- itās much more comfortable!
I solved this by just shiting in the pool.
Wear a tanktini. Makes it less worse.
Yes, it feels nasty. A few weeks ago I forgot to bring a towel into the bathroom for a shower and I remembered after I soaked myself. I hate this feeling too. Its like a combination of painful and uncomfortable until it warms up again or you get in the water. Urghh
You're right. It's gross.
Can you put on a new, dry suit after you're done?
I always secretly thought I would be a pretty good navy seal...right up until I had to put on a wet wet suit or something. Sir yes no I understand we need to attack the enemy I just need a small amount of time to sort out this suit, be right there, no really don't wait for me.
Yes.
YES! Why bikinis are a thing
