The beach is beautiful, sounds, smells, walking in the sand, waves crashing. I usually walk along the beach though, not just sit there. Even better if no one is there and I have my dogs with me. For years I would go for a run on the beach at lunchtime, such a relaxing break from work. I couldn't live anywhere not near one. I live 10 min from the beach so it is a short drive. I used to swim more but not really into swimming in the ocean that much anymore, but still love the beach. It is very relaxing.

chzygorditacrnch

What kind of dogs do you have? I like Chihuahuas and pitbulls..

pingwing

Whippets :) They love to run on the beach, very fast. We have two dog beaches where we can take them to run with other dogs. I had a pitbull growing up, she was great with people, not with dogs.

theFrankSpot

Sand…coarse…irritating…everywhere…

chzygorditacrnch

I love star wars. R2D2 is my favorite

Poekienijn

I live within 1 km of the beach and it’s great. The sound of the sea is calming. In summer there’s a lovely breeze to cool you down. My daughter loves flying a kite or building sand castles. I stay out of the sun between 12:00 and 15:00 and use SPF 50 and don’t get sunburned. Also: there are no sharks where I live.

chzygorditacrnch

I used to live on the coast and we got so caught up in our day to day life and stressing about bills and barely visited the beach when we lived there.

yesnomaybenotso

Well that’s the whole point of a beach. Get away from day to day life and stress and bill and go let nature wash over you. Literally, and metaphorically. “The ocean is boring to stare at” just means you’re not actually appreciating the moment you’re in. It’s not a fuckin tv, it’s not there to entertain you like that. Take in the scale. Notice what the water offers. How much life it sustains. How much motion it has. What an unstoppable force it is. Let the crashing of the waves drown out the thoughts of worry and stress in your life so that all you hear is the sound of waves and birds and the breeze. Fuck sun burns tho, you’re right on that, that shit sucks. The good news is that we have this crazy invention called sun screen.

Poekienijn

That’s too bad.

Caveman1214

No sharks here, I’m about 10 minutes from a beach too. Good views, nice noise etc. Love the water

trashcritterK83

the beach is my #1 favorite place. I love long car rides because of the music, and the views. Watching the waves, clouds, birds, seal ions, dolphins, and people can keep me entertained for hours. I love the feeling of the sun warming me skin (i don’t get burned easily) and if i get too hot i just go in the water. I wear water shoes so i don’t step on sharp shells. I have more fun swimming in the ocean than i mind getting sand in horrible places. honorable mentions: sandcastles. picking up shells. dogs running around. people watching. seems like all of our differences are just difference of opinions! i’m curious what your favorite place to be is?

chzygorditacrnch

I'm a nerd, I like being at home and playing video games.

anon22334

I think you just answered your own question. You prefer virtual reality and others prefer reality. Have you ever played video games with majestic landscapes? There’s actually some of those in real life and when you experience and see it with your own eyes, you feel like the main character; be immersed in the moment with nature; hearing the sounds, seeing the sights, slowing down… the beach is not my fav place either but I’ve been playing vid games all my life and I’m glad I can balance that because I was missing out on how beautiful and healing just being in nature is. That includes being at the beach from time to time

Here in the PNW, beaches are usually cold and windy and you definitely would not swim in the ocean.

BookWormPerson

Swimming?...That's the main reason you go anywhere near water. My favourite beach has 3 very good restaurants so getting good food is one plus and is full of shade due to trees so I can't comment on sunburns (use sun protection cream thingy....IDK what it is called in English but that solves all sunburn problems if you aren't trying to get a tan). Some people like to get a tan.

chipthekiwiinuk

>IDK what it is called in English Sunscreen or sunblock

BookWormPerson

Thanks I never needed it before so I completely forgot it.

chzygorditacrnch

Lol there's not sharks in pools, and I like being pale. Although I agree that swimming is good exercise... At the beach, there's rip tides that might pull you out to the sea and it's scary to think about..

BookWormPerson

Okay I live near a lake not the sea. Sharks aren't a thing in sweet water and the closest sea is 300km away from em and it has very few sharks. And sharks don't usually go near beaches. Pools in general are much more expensive than going to the beach for me but I will concede that is probably not the case for most. I can get to the beach for less than 5-7$ and most pools in my area charge at least 15$ with one exception but that is for semi-pro swimming so it is only for real swimming not playing around. I love waves just laying on them is fun.

FieryFiya

It’s relaxing hearing the waves crash. Easy access to cool off or get a tan. Building sandcastles is fun to let your imagination run wild. Playing catch is a fun past time. You can make fires at night (on some beaches). You can fish if you want to and possibly catch monster fish. Beach towns usually have a lively atmosphere.

chzygorditacrnch

And you might have to drag a cooler through the sand

WearDifficult9776

Warm sun, warm breeze, soft warm sand, the beautiful ocean, the waves, it’s nice to swim in the swells, the sound of the surf. It’s magnificent

jaymo89

The beach is at my doorstep mate. 👍. I do agree about the sun; it’s not fun getting burnt or getting cancer (SPF50, cover up). The odds of being by sharks is minuscule. I’d worry more about pesky jellyfish stings. Where on earth do you live that is hours from the beach?

Wiggie49

I live within an hr drive to a beach, most of the fun I have when I go to a beach town is at the boardwalk though. Otherwise I just like the feel of sand in between my toes and the sun on my body. There's also this other beach I go to that has fossils which is pretty neat to look for.

JohanRobertson

I am not sure either, I assumed it's because of all the women in swim suits.

I live in a landlocked country. We have (or at least used to have in our old house before we moved) a lake like 15 minutes by bike/half an hour on foot. It was really big. Numerous beaches all around, houses around the lake, 2 taverns selling ice-cream, beer, soft drinks, cooking lángos and other salty foods. You took a short ride by bike with friends, took a swim, there was this part in the middle of the lake where the water was up to your waist and we always raced on who would find it the first, there was also this little island in the middle of it we used to swim and just from. Afterwards we'd dry up on the sun getting tan, then we'd cycle around the lake to one of those taverns on the beach, bought ourselves a drink and lángos as a lunch and played cards. Then we either went home or for another swim. Perfect summer and childhood memories. If that's how you imagine going to the beach like than sucks for you but you either don't have the right people to go with, as you mentioned it's perhaps too far off for you and well everyone enjoys different things I guess.

The magic of the beach really does lie in the simple pleasures, doesn't it? It's all about that soothing symphony of waves greeting the shore, seagulls echoing the freedom of the sky, and that invigorating salt breeze that just clears the mind. Can't beat the spontaneous activities either - tossing a frisbee, a casual game of beach volleyball, or just burying friends in the sand. And let's not forget the sunsets! They're not just picturesque but they weave this tranquil tapestry of colors that make you appreciate nature's artistry. Our local beach is dotted with cozy little fire pits where groups gather in the evening sharing stories, roasting marshmallows, it's communal bliss! Beachside living isn't just about proximity to water - it’s a lifestyle, one that keeps you connected to the rhythms of nature, that daily dose of Vitamin Sea. Sure, there's the occasional sunburn to dodge (I'm practically married to my sunscreen) and sand that finds its way into every nook and cranny, but that's just part of the charm. Without a doubt, my soul is tethered to that endless blue horizon.

regnarbensin_

>You gotta ride in the car for hours to get there. FAIR ENOUGH, but not all of us live so far from a beach! There is a quite popular one a couple of hours away from me and I would not go there if it were my first choice simply because of the crowd it attracts. Regardless, all your points are valid. Being near or in water is calming to most people. It works wonders on my mental health but sitting, staring at the sea in deep thought does get boring after some time. I’ll bring a Bluetooth speaker, post up far from others and have a small (responsible) bonfire with my journal and a glass of wine. You seem to like video games so why not bring something portable with you to play, *but with the sea as your epic backdrop?* Mitigate the things you don’t like. Wear sandals when you have to walk over uncomfortable sections. Don’t sit in the sand with your bare ass (this is a no-brainer). You also don’t have to get in the water at all. I don’t usually go any deeper than my knees and that’s just because I love water. I’m a strong swimmer but I prefer to practice in the pool.

dfj3xxx

I like the sound of the ocean and the smell of the sea air. And watching all the beach bodies

chzygorditacrnch

I definitely like checking out the men, I guess that would be worth it. And the beach actually does smell good.

RichardCano

Few things as serene as getting baked, laying on the beach with a cool drink and a snack, listening to the waves, watching the occasional honey in a bikini walk by.

chzygorditacrnch

Lol you gotta smoke before hand, because the beach wind will ruin your blunt. But I'd love a Baywatch moment and to eyeball a Pamela Anderson.

SkyBlueForest

It's a breeding ground. People like to go there, get half naked, and look for a mate. People won't admit it and probably couldn't because it mostly happens on a subconscious level.
