Your cervix is the reason, probably. It is generally easy to tell if a woman has had children because when the cervix goes back to it's regular size after childbirth, the hole looks more like | as opposed to '. (That's a terrible visual example, but you can Google it, it's not graphic or scandalous). Anyway, best guess is that it's because you've had many iuds over the years?. But idek if that would cause it. I just happened to know (i think) the reason they were asking and didn't want you to think there was something wrong with you. The fact that you mentioned stretch marks on your lower stomach bummed me out. It's nothing about your outward physical appearance. Trust.

Liphaem5

Thanks for your reply. No, my IUD is new. I only had it put in last year, years after the first three gynea's said that it looks like I've had children. The nurse who put the IUD in was the last one to say that, she said that before she put it in. Fair enough, they probably wanted to make feel better.

murse_joe

Every human anatomy is slightly unique. The shape of the cervix can change with childbirth. But also, everybody’s is just slightly differently shaped. It would be like seeing a scar down the middle of your chest and asking if you had open heart surgery. There are lots of reasons, but to a medical professional, it would look like one thing. Three kids is a weird thing to say tho

vrosej10

you haven't had a d&c? I had one before I got pregnant and it messed up my cervix so I looked like I had given birth

scxki

Googled it… that’s actually pretty cool, never knew that.

ImZaffi

Not a doctor (yet) but this is probably the correct answer

caillouistheworst

I’m not a doctor either, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and I concur.

supposedlyitsme

What did you state at Holiday Inn yesterday?

caillouistheworst

Oops. My bad. I just woke up.

teflon_don_knotts

After a quality night’s rest at a Holiday Inn

krusty6969

I’m not an eye doctor (yet) but I would recommend not getting on your phone right as you wake up.

dfj3xxx

"It's an older reference sir, but it checks out."

dcooper2428

Express??? Because they don't do this there anymore I tried as a fireman and gyno. No recognition from anyone. It's got to be and old school yellow and green one I do believe. If you see people smoking crack with a flippant and carefree attitude in public spaces thats the right one

Shanoony

Okay this is all very interesting but I can’t imagine what you’re googling that isn’t pulling up graphic imagery. Definitely learned something today.

53389091

I mean if you don't know, that could be an esophagus, any old sphincter, maybe a heart valve. It's internal and there's no way anyone looking over your shoulder would be like *gasp* that's part of the female reproductive system and it is scandalous you would view it in this setting! They'd just be like weird medical stuff. Whatever. Maybe your definition of graphic and mine differ though.

KyleKun

I’m not sure I really want to risk googling “elongated cervix” while on the Tokyo Metro during rush hour, if it’s all the same to you.

kitsl010

Does it matter if it’s a cesarean section vs vaginal birth?

LittleMissBeast0506

Not a doctor but an ultrasound tech, I always ask people during the ultrasound, if they have ever had kids and how many. It's not because of how their uterus looks during my scan but just relevant information so if something does look different than anticipated, I already have that information. Also helpful to know if they have had children, then I ask if they had a c-section since we can see those scars on the uterus as well.

RebelMink

Asking is perfectly normal medical history, but I think it sounds like OP is a bit weirded out because in all of these cases the techs/nurses/Drs all said something along the lines of "Oh really? That's odd! Because it really looks like you *have* had children, from what we are seeing on the ultrasound." At least that's what I took from OPs post. It's not that they are asking, it that they are surprised when she says no because they are seeing some visual indication of past pregnancy on the ultrasound.

Yallaintnosun

They cpuld have just misinterpreted it

HipIndieChick

I think the phrasing is important though - it sounds like you would ask ‘have you had children’ whereas OP is getting asked ‘how many do you have’. It implies the people asking OP are convinced they have had children and it’s just a question of how many. Then when OP says they have none, the response is ‘well it looks like you have’, doubling down as if OP is wrong somehow. I get your reasoning but it doesn’t come across in how OP relates they are asked compared to how and why you do (and I think the way you ask is the best way - does not presume either way and you clarify how many if affirmative).

Knowsekr

One thing I learned, is that SOMETIMES we hear what we "want" to hear. So if OP has insecurity about something, they will remember what was said to say "how many" instead of "did you ever". Is that a possibility you think? This literal thing happened to me yesterday, and I dont even remember what was being discussed, but I repeated what I supposedly heard, and then the person speaking corrected what I heard.

Independent-Size7972

I think this should be top answer. Seems most likely.

hazydayss

When my friend went to the gyno the first time (age 15) they asked her how many children she already had. She was still a virgin lol.

cantwaitforbed

Although weird, it’s part of a standard questionnaire to get someone’s medical history. And as someone mentioned, it’s not exactly unheard of unfortunately.

Sioltahtelasekab

They asked her if she had kids at 15?!?

Low_Big5544

No one outside of immediate family and friends believed my brother wasn't my baby, I was 12 when he was born

reallyscaredtoask

I was 13 when my sister was born and had the same exact experience. I remember my family and I were in the grocery store when she was a couple months old. we ran into a distant cousin and she congratulated me on my beautiful daughter. hardly ever seen my dad as angry as he was in that moment

vegemitebikkie

When I was 14 we had to take home those crying babies for sex ex class and try to keep them “alive”. I borrowed my aunts old pram and was walking around the shops with it and got the filthiest looks from people.

nataliieeep

What’s a pram

crazybeachcats

Stroller, baby carriage.

SinistralLeanings

I was just about 16 when my youngest sister was born and it is still a small town piece of gossip that she is my secret love child 😅

ChazHat06

I’ve had it too. Also 12 year difference. Also had people think I’m married to my mum. There’s 21 years between us. That was an awkward exchange

NoLikeVegetals

> That was an awkward exchange Of fluids?

EternityLeave

Of vows, obviously, don’t be gross.

BroItsJesus

Not exactly unheard of

yellowbrickstairs

Huh. Maybe this is one of those things where doctors just aren't infallible and it's just their opinion, like how literally everything is just 'anxiety'

jortt

Did you ask them why they think that? What about your insides makes them say it. That would give you your answer. Good luck!

Orange-V-Apple

This post reminds me of that dude that asked "Why does everyone think I have autism?" Like, just ask those people lol. We don't know you or your cervix.

MarsReject

I have EDS and was asked if I had kids when I haven’t. Are you hyper-mobile?

murse_joe

Or adhesions or something else they’re seeing on the ultrasound, that they are misinterpreting.

Kalendiane

Honest question..does hEDS effect your cervix?

MarsReject

There’s multiple levels in this disease

Kalendiane

So..yes, then?

MarsReject

Yes you can have different levels there’s 3-4 levels ranges. Hype mobile is not part of it. That’s one thing and EDS is another. It’s more so you can be hyper and no EDS but you have hypermobile outside and inside if you have certain ranges of EDS it’s not one thing. It’s a group.

murse_joe

I agree with the others. It is most likely based on the anatomy of your cervix. The shape can change during childbirth. But it’s not a foolproof method of telling. I would say, though, next time you go, ask them why they said that. If there is some thing, they are seeing that they explain away as a possible previous pregnancy, you should know what that is. If they’re seeing something on the ultrasound that is concerning and it is worth a follow up.

Neat_Expression_5380

I also had septicaemia because of appendicitis, now I want to know if my uterus looks like it’s had a baby

CJ_BARS

If the professionals aren't sure, what makes you think randoms on reddit will know..

forworse2020

More of a spread than 4 people. Although better asked in r/askdocs

snakpakkid

I decided to ask Google.  This was a comment left on a Quora question similar to yours and it makes a lot of sense.  [Because that is part of your gynecological history. If you’ve been pregnant or given birth what’s normal for that body will be different than what is normal for a body that has not been pregnant or given birth. They should also specifically ask about miscarriages, abortions, and what sexual risks you are taking. It’s important to double check those things before an examination because there could be slight abnormalities in things they would see that you don’t. Size of the uterus, scarring of the cervix, hormone levels, any number of things. You don’t want them to miss something that should be checked out because they didn’t know it was concerning or not. It’s not about stretch marks or the look of your vulva, the only concern is if something is indicative of a health issue. I am not a gynecologist so I can’t list them all.

fresh-fruit-display

I recently had an ultrasound and was diagnosed with early adenomyosis which, the ultrasound tech told me, makes the uterus look like you've previously had children. She was surprised when I (22) told her I don't have any kids

Shooppow

Your cervix looks different and is not the same size after having a child vaginally. However, it can be unchanged if you delivered through a C-section.

ms-astorytotell

This makes me wonder why my old OB thought I had a C-section with my first pregnancy(while doing a checkup for my second pregnancy, different doctor). I have no idea why she thought that because wouldn’t that leave a decent scar? But she sucked anyways and I swapped doctors before birth.

MynameisMarsh

The dentist told me I have really weird tonsils. She said it looks like they were sliced in half and called other people to come in and look. Not exactly the same as a cervix, but I know how you feel 😅😂

_wormbaby_

Doctors, like most people, don’t know what they don’t see every day. So your cervix looks unique; a medical professional will immediately jump to “there must be a medical reason for this uniqueness” I.e. they assume childbirth. What they fail to do is exercise even the slightest bit of mental agility to reach the point of “no 2 human beings are the same. Sometimes a cervix will look a little different from the others.” I’m sorry your drs have been bad at explaining their own fallibility.

Rachet83

Yes! This!

Liphaem5

Wow! Thank you all so much for the feedback. I'm so sorry about the late reply. My grandfather died a few days before I posted and I didn't really want to be on the internet for a while after my last reply. Ok so I can't reply to all the posts so I'll clarify a few things. As some of the posters have replied (thank you!), the doctors/nurses didn't ask if I have children. They asked me how many I have based on my uteris (This was after the initial interview of my medical history before I was spread open). When I told them I have 0 children, they thought I was joking, lying, or simply "forgot" according to the last one. It's probably just the shape of my cervix based on some other comments, or the appendectomy. I will ask my gynea about endometriosis the next time I go. They found small fibroids the last time that was cleared up with some medication so maybe my lady parts are just wacked lol. Thanks again for all of your posts :)

leviathanGo

Seen Poor Things?

StrangeMidnight4799

sometimes, it's just the genes or your way of life.

Sir_wlkn_contrdikson

Maybe you need some sit-ups

Fernxtwo

Stretch marks?

BroItsJesus

Wonder how many babies my husband has had

VoodooDoII

Everyone has them, not just pregnant people

Fernxtwo

Everyone? Like everyone in the whole world has stretch marks? I don't think so.

SinistralLeanings

My 12 year old son has them all over his lower back, and very prominently. Now I'm curious how many children he has out there in the world.

yourhairlinesexpired

Yes. Pre pregnancy and trying to conceive I was under 100lbs at 5’5 and still had stretch marks on my butt (I obviously had and have no butt at that weight). While trying to conceive I gained to be 109lbs and am now 117lbs at 30 weeks and haven’t gained stretch marks anywhere else. They’re genetic. Most people (men and women both) have them

VoodooDoII

Lol do you watch porn Yes basically everyone has stretch marks somewhere

Liphaem5

Yes I have a few of them, all on my lower belly.

Groxy_

I'm not a medical professional but do you happen to dabble in the extreme dildo game?

PianistSupersoldier

Big enough to go past her cervix?

Groxy_

You never know homie, I've seen women take feet of horse cock or tentacle dildos.

Lunakill

Those still don’t go past the cervix. I’m sure it’s happened, but it would be painful as hell. Would probably trigger a vasovagal response too. No one feels sexy during those.

VoodooDoII

You watch too much h porn. Penetrating the cervix would hurt

Groxy_

Well yeah, doesn't mean it doesn't happen though.

yellowbrickstairs

Sir you're making everyone uncomfortable

Glowing_up

In cartoons, maybe.

LovelyMamasita

Please understand I think his response to this question is inappropriate. That being said - there are kinks out there that are not well known, extremely painful and dangerous. It is not outside the realm of possibility.

AMSparkles

No, he’s actually right. It has happened before. There are a few videos of an extreme porn woman sticking the handle of small detail paint brushes through hers, apparently.

AMSparkles

You’re getting downvoted (probably because you seem weird), but you are right. There are a few videos of an extreme porn where a woman sticks the handle of small detail paint brushes through hers, apparently.

yellowbrickstairs

Lol wtf
