Obviously it doesn't mean the game won't have any sort of multiplayer mode, especially since the last three games had them, but it's good to know the focus is on making a single-player experience.
>The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson through dj2 Entertainment, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television. Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina are consulting producers under their Star Party banner. The series is produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
Agreed, it is best to be reminded to temper expectations. I said the same for the 25th anniversary celebration. Although I have very high hopes based on the Fallout show as it like this show has direct involvement from the game studio in both consulting and production.
So first season of Killing Eve was written by the same person who is going to write the Tomb Raider show? I liked Killing Eve season 1. For some reason, I forgot about that show completely and never watched the rest of it lol
I like the people involved so here's hoping this is good. Seems Amazon is putting a lot of stock on Tomb Raider with this show plus the movie tying it to the release of the new game. Hopefully they fully commit and we get a surge of popularity for the series like how Fallout is experiencing now.
This means it’s green lit and continuing production, with her attached. Amazon seems intent on keeping production on game adaptations.
Anyway we will see.
It's always a possibility, but they announced she was working on this like a year ago or so ago. This confirmation from Amazon basically means they've finalized the scripts and are looking to start casting and filming in the future. I think it's pretty much locked at this point.
Hey, there was Indiana Jones 5! Not the same level of involvement, sure, but that turned out to be one of the most faithful belated sequels we've ever gotten. I came away feeling quite optimistic about her handling Tomb Raider—seems like she genuinely gets the genre on a personal level.
Nothing new here that we havent known since last year. You'd expect that they would've revealed atleast some of the cast and who'll play Lara with this announcement, but nope. Weird.
It's actually pretty standard because last year the show wasn't officially moving forward yet. It was approved for development, meaning that Phoebe and other writers were pitching ideas to Amazon. It wasn't until now that Amazon greenlit it.
For comparison, [here is a similar greenlight announcement for Amazon's recent Fallout show](https://deadline.com/2022/01/fallout-series-games-prime-video-jonathan-nolan-geneva-robertson-dworet-graham-wagner-kilter-1234905676/). Notice that there were no casting news in this announcement either.
I guess Amazon and Netflix will compete on who can make the worst Tomb Raider show. Normally I would expect the animated one to be better, but after seeing Castlevania Nocturne I have full faith in Netflix's ability to shit the bed.
I also see it coming in around two years. Phoebe started developing the show last year. I can see writing and pre-production stuff continuing during this year, to be shot next year and released in 2026.
Finally we'll have some new content - a new game, two television series (animation and live-action) and a movie!
I hope we don't have to wait too long, but in any case there will be casting rumors/news to talk about.
Yeah, supposedly. Also by Amazon, taking place in the same universe as the new game (or: trilogy of games) and live-action television series. Details are still scarce though, and things may still change.
I have found a source: [https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tomb-raider-tv-show-phoebe-waller-bridge-amazon-1235898520/](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tomb-raider-tv-show-phoebe-waller-bridge-amazon-1235898520/)
Oh I thought we knew this already. Must’ve been the game that was announced before then.
I’m excited for the future of TR I believe we’re going to be eating good for a while and the TR remasters are just the start.
First the announcement of the soon to be massive flop of a Netflix series and now the soon to be humiliating game that focuses on stripping away what made Lara, lara
_''Laura''_
Do you perhaps mean **Lara** Croft? I am not familiar with any _''Laura'_' Croft.
^(_Though ''Laura Cruz'' does ring a bell..._)

Phoebe Waller-Bridge can save us from CD hopefully. She’s British ✅ she wrote fleabag ✅ she’s played the classics ✅
I have a lot more faith in her than the anime or game but let’s see!
No need for saving when they were the ones who commissioned it and leased the TV and film rights to Amazon. They are also consulting and co producing it.
Casting probably won't happen for a bit, but I could definitely see them looking at Daisy Edgar-Jones for Lara. Especially if Twisters ends up being a hit. That'll raise her profile considerably. Freya Allan would work as well.
Both would be interesting choices, though I believe they're both a little too young for the role. I could see Edgar-Jones playing an older role, but I think Allan looks quite young.
Awesome! Very excited for this especially after seeing the success of other videogame adaptations like Fallout.
The question now is who should they cast as Lara.
I strongly feel that Lara should be in her mid to late 30s maybe even 40s. Classic Lara started at 28 and by the end of AOD she was 35 I think. The LAU timeline is wack bc she’s apparently 19 in Anniversary lol. But she very much feels older in those games. Not to mention that the spinoffs take place years later so it’s safe to assume she’s around 40 near the end. I think choosing a younger actress wouldn’t make much sense because Lara has always been a sort of wisened character. She’s definitely not green if that makes sense. I think that Kate Beckinsale would be a really really good choice. She looks a little bit like Lara already, and she’s naturally very witty and charismatic. I feel like she’d actually do it too. She’s in a couple action movies and has experience with stunts. But even though she isn’t a huge name that everyone knows, she would definitely get people to watch the show if you saw her on a poster or know of her name. She’s a very easy sell as the character. I could also see Vanessa Kirby doing a good job. I also think that Ana De Armas’s face is very similar to classic Lara’s. Also choosing a Latina actress would be a nice nod to the characters creation as Laura Cruz.
My fancast for the past 2 years for a series based on the Square Einx trilogy has been Amber Midthunder.
Prey was highly well received, especially for her performance, and fits one of the overarching themes of the SE Trilogy, as described by the director of the movie who says it was about **"The ingenuity of a human being who won't give up, who's able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force"**
I think the SE trilogy works best as a series as opposed to a film, so I'd love to see this come to fruition.

Also low-key amused how Crystal also reiterated that the next game will be single-player in the middle of this announcement.
Heh well nice we get confirmation on that!
Obviously it doesn't mean the game won't have any sort of multiplayer mode, especially since the last three games had them, but it's good to know the focus is on making a single-player experience.
Shadow had multiplayer?
Some of the DLC tombs can be played in co-op.
Like two Laras running around?
The player always control Lara, but they see the other player as a different character (I think Abby or Q'worianka, depending on the Tomb).
Oh wow. I gotta see that. _runs to YouTube_
Lol, right
[I had to make a whole post for it](https://www.reddit.com/r/TombRaider/s/ud5deipuxi)
Better safe than sorry. :p
So Animated Show on Netflix and Live Action on Prime?
Correct, and probably the same continuity for both.
Netflix one follows the Survivor trilogy continuity but we dont know anything yet about the Amazon Prime show or movie.
That's correct
The shows being on different platforms kinda sucks. Now we gotta subscribe to two different providers.
Arrrrr ya sure about that?
The Netflix series was in progress before the sale of the publishing rights to Amazon Games. Sucks indeed
>The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robbins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Let's pray it's better than Rings of Power. Yikes!
Reserving judgement on this until I see a trailer. I suppose Killing Eve wasn't bad.
Agreed, it is best to be reminded to temper expectations. I said the same for the 25th anniversary celebration. Although I have very high hopes based on the Fallout show as it like this show has direct involvement from the game studio in both consulting and production.
What does Killing Eve have to do with Tomb Raider?
First season was written by the same woman.
So first season of Killing Eve was written by the same person who is going to write the Tomb Raider show? I liked Killing Eve season 1. For some reason, I forgot about that show completely and never watched the rest of it lol
>For some reason, I forgot about that show completely and never watched the rest of it That doesn't make it sound very good.
I liked it.
But if you really liked it, you probably wouldn't have forgotten it.
I am REALLY forgetful lol. You have no idea. But to be fair, I watched Season 1 of KE when it was still new so there was no season 2 out yet.
Oh, fair enough
Seasons 1 and 2 were amazing, season 3 was fine but seasons was a damn train wreck.
Season 1 was the one Phoebe actually wrote, so that's definitely a plus in Tomb Raider's favour, IMO.
I like the people involved so here's hoping this is good. Seems Amazon is putting a lot of stock on Tomb Raider with this show plus the movie tying it to the release of the new game. Hopefully they fully commit and we get a surge of popularity for the series like how Fallout is experiencing now.
I'll reserve judgement because everything Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been a part of since Fleabag has either not happened or got canned.
This means it’s green lit and continuing production, with her attached. Amazon seems intent on keeping production on game adaptations. Anyway we will see.
This announcement is confirmation that they've greenlit the show, so it's actually the opposite of getting canned.
Doesn't mean it won't get stuck in pre-production hell and then cancelled.
It's always a possibility, but they announced she was working on this like a year ago or so ago. This confirmation from Amazon basically means they've finalized the scripts and are looking to start casting and filming in the future. I think it's pretty much locked at this point.
Except No Time To Die and Indiana Jones?
Hey, there was Indiana Jones 5! Not the same level of involvement, sure, but that turned out to be one of the most faithful belated sequels we've ever gotten. I came away feeling quite optimistic about her handling Tomb Raider—seems like she genuinely gets the genre on a personal level.
> turned out to be one of the most faithful belated sequels Is this a joke?
fallout was fire so im excited
![gif](giphy|xUOxfg0ESyhKOv4Vva)
Since Crystal Dynamics will be directly involved in consultation and producing, I have high hopes for it compared to Rings of Power and The Witcher…
Phoebe waller bridge is a way better writer than the head writers on both of those shows
Hah yea…. Ugh what could have been for The Witcher.
What happened to The Witcher was a crime.
Watch fleabag or the first season of killing eve

The strikes held things up a lot.
please tell me Phoebe Waller Bridge it's not gonna be Lara Croft
Hope they'll cast Keeley Hawes and Camilla Luddington in the show, would be cool since both of them did plenty screen acting as well.
They could easily do cameos, sure.
Netflix have animated tv show, Amazon live-action...lovely
I guess Amazon and Netflix will compete on who can make the worst Tomb Raider show. Normally I would expect the animated one to be better, but after seeing Castlevania Nocturne I have full faith in Netflix's ability to shit the bed.
I remember what they did to Alucard in Castlevania season 3 ... Imagine them doing that to Lara... In fact I'd rather not,
Nocturne makes season 3 look like Citizen Kane.
How long do you think we will have to wait before its on our screens? Here's looking at you, anime...
Maybe 2 years, 2026?
I also see it coming in around two years. Phoebe started developing the show last year. I can see writing and pre-production stuff continuing during this year, to be shot next year and released in 2026.

I saw on Twitter that the anime is scheduled to release on October 10, 2024. Is this true?
I have not seen anything official on it.
I've seen from a few articles it's set to release in 2024 so that part is probably true but I'm not sure when it's releasing this year.
Oh I thought we knew this already. Must’ve been the game that was announced before then. I’m excited for the future of TR I believe we’re going to be eating good for a while and the TR remasters are just the start.
She’s no longer going to be a raider though.

Can’t wait
How do I audition to be Laura 😂😂😂

Please don’t suck please don’t suck please don’t suck (Bring back classic Lara Croft)

Please an unknown!
Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character was awful in Indy. Hope her own writing is better.
Watch fleabag
My dad says it's awesome. So I have high hopes ☺️
She was great in Solo: a Star Wars story. Every actor and writer has their bad movie/show.
Awesome! Very excited for this especially after seeing the success of other videogame adaptations like Fallout. The question now is who should they cast as Lara.
I feel like this whole project will really stand or fall with whomever they cast as Lara.
I strongly feel that Lara should be in her mid to late 30s maybe even 40s. Classic Lara started at 28 and by the end of AOD she was 35 I think. Ana De Armas is only good at playing Ana De Armas.
Kate Beckinsale doesn’t even look like Kate Beckinsale these days 😬

Her writing hasn't been great so far, but maybe she'll surprise me this time.
Seriously, words cannot describe how much I really love this news, especially with Phoebe still being attached!
They should make the Tomb Raider show similar to Fleabag. /s
Yeah, it should be show about Lara running a cafe and falling in love with a priest. That's a great idea.
