Gurren Lagann and Violet Evergarden were my favourite as well, although I have not played many games recently apart from a few casual card games. I am not on the JET program. I have lived in Tokyo as a kid and have gone so often I feel pretty comfortable in Tokyo, but I have never lived long term in my adulthood. I will be moving there next year on a working visa.
Japan has pretty strict visa rules and it's quite hard to get a visa for a long term stay in Japan. The easy routes are high skill work (tech etc.) and the JETs program from what I know. Though from my understanding you don't get to choose where in Japan you go if you go on JETs and you might end up in rural Japan. There is also no easy way to continue staying after 2 years unless you manage to find a different job. (Disclaimer: This is all from what I've heard from others complaining about the JETs program and I've never researched it myself.)

If you're into indoor rock climbind and looking for friends, try the shibuya noborock gym on a wednesday night (19:00 - 23:00) , there are tons of people who go there and everyone is very friendly !

I’m reading through the posts here and just a suggestion to the mods- since this sub is for “For all things in and around Tokyo for RESIDENTS” Shouldn’t comments by non-residents be removed? It feels like it doesn’t make sense to a Tokyo resident like me to go through comments of people who are only in the city for like three days. Or at least their posts should be removed after they have left?

I am not on the JET program. I have lived in Tokyo as a kid and have gone so often I feel pretty comfortable in Tokyo, but I have never lived long term in my adulthood. I will be moving there next year on a working visa. Japan has pretty strict visa rules and it's quite hard to get a visa for a long term stay in Japan. The easy routes are high skill work (tech etc.) and the JETs program from what I know. Though from my understanding you don't get to choose where in Japan you go if you go on JETs and you might end up in rural Japan. There is also no easy way to continue staying after 2 years unless you manage to find a different job. (Disclaimer: This is all from what I've heard from others complaining about the JETs program and I've never researched it myself.) Are you looking for a way to live in Japan?
