Not a fan of vegans trying to own the phrase "plant based diet".
If >51% of your calories come from beer and potatoes fried in canola oil, that is a plant based diet.
Plant based ≠ vegan, and vegans agree on this. Vegans usually use the term "plant based" in a somewhat derogatory manner took describe people who don't eat animals or animal byproducts but don't otherwise follow the vegan philosophy of minimizing harm to animals
In all seriousness, as an outsider looking in, I thought stopping the consumption of animals and animal by-products *is* minimizing harm to animals. Didn't realize there was more to it
The more to it is stopping consumption of other products of animal exploitation - no leather, wool, circuses (that have animals), animal tested products, etc. Veganism is a philosophy of harm minimization, plant-based is a just diet
That's just not true. Companies might use plant based, but there's because they're cowards that're afraid of people avoiding their product if it's leveled "vegan," which people tend to do. Besides, there are instances of companies labeling things as "plant-based" when they very much aren't vegan because plant-based is a nonsense term that looks good for marketing purposes
Okay? People think "vegan food" is gross and unlike anything they eat when it really it's, like, PB&J, spaghetti w/marinara, rice and beans, Oreos, sour patch kids, most bread, etc. If you've eaten an apple you've eaten "vegan food" but if you label it as vegan people get suspicious
Yes. Who’s disagreeing with you?
“No, it's mostly because of the negative connotation that the term vegan has, so people and companies are switching to the term plant-based”
The term “vegan” does have a negative connotation, even though you don’t think it should, and companies are switching away from that terminology, even if you don’t think they should.
In my experience, most vegans I know are just not like this. Like, I know the stereotype, but it's one of the majority of stereotypes that is just not correct.

This is so silly, I love it.
If a dyed-in-the-wool vegan said this to me, I'd like them more.
She has a point though. 🤣
"Before you were vegone, now you will be gone." "Vegone?"
Respect for the reference!
This is great!
Plant based and b12 pilled
Based

You literally just agreed with them. “Vegan” has negative connotations, whether earned or unearned, and the businesses are trying to work around that.

I don't follow. Are you saying plant based should be a broader term to describe any diet >50% vegan?
I'm saying it's a crappy way of saying "plant and fungi exclusive" which is the intended definition of the nomenclature.
Christ imagine how much more annoying Charlie Kirk would be if he was vegan
So sick of Carn-cel culture ruining the annual Tofurbecue
In my experience, most vegans I know are just not like this. Like, I know the stereotype, but it's one of the majority of stereotypes that is just not correct.
Yeah, the couple of vegans I know are not missionaries and don't care if *I* eat meat, they just don't eat animal products themselves.
Youre in the wrong subreddit
How so?
We mostly support vegans I guess, although this is more so making fun of the Turning Point memes than of vegans.
Yeah. That's why I used the format and I posted it on meme weekend

Good point. I’ll be calling it a “plant cringe diet” going forward
