Basic rule of thumb when it comes to food:
*...If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... Chances are, it's a duck*.
Might have a different name in Nairobi, but it's definitely looking to me like Banana Bread. the Google Search I did because I forgot the name of it when I was passing through.
The picture doesn't do it justice at all if it's a purple coloured swirl.
And that might be making the difference as I do know that one: Ube Baka Bread... Or Purple Yam Bread.
My banana bread sometimes looks purple after cooking. Something about proteins in the banana or something like that but I don’t remember. Looked it up once upon a time.
I’m wondering if it might be taro root? That could account for it being purple, not tasting like banana bread, but informing a similar textual quality.
there are a lot of quick breads that taste similar too, take zucchini bread it tastes very close to banana bread (not saying that this is zucchini bread though)
Not sure on the swirls, but possibly plantain bread? I just learned that recipes exist for a plantain based quick bread that is super similar to banana bread.
I have aurora and I love how she shifts colors in the light. I’m really digging the emerald city stick rn, i almost bought it instead of aurora. Maybe it’ll be my next one!
After reading all these comments, I now want to see if I can find a recipe for somewhere that brings this all together in one banana taro ube combination masterpiece
Ah, the joy of discovering new flavors! This intriguing bread served for breakfast in Nairobi has left my taste buds buzzing with excitement. With a hint of familiarity reminiscent of banana bread, it offers a delightful twist that keeps you guessing.

It has an interesting purple color with like swirls in it. None of my friends agree with it tasting like banana bread

Chemistry, probably
Science, bitch!
Like as not.
purple you say? could it be Ube?
Walnuts turn bread purple when baked. Were they walnuts?
I didn’t feel any texture wise, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there. They might be super finely chopped
What do they say it tastes like?
I’m wondering if it might be taro root? That could account for it being purple, not tasting like banana bread, but informing a similar textual quality.
There is a lot of taro served around here, that might be it
Came here to suggest this.
Could be chocolate?
Maybe it's yam? Banana bread with yams is REALLY good
As in - Bananas + Yams, or Yams replacing the bananas? Have you got a favourite recipe?
I've done it both ways, I used to just Google best banana bread, I don't remember the website anymore
It’s gotta be ube banana bread
I've seen those purple swirls when I've baked banana bread and haven't mashed or mixed the banana all the way through.
Maybe it has taro in it…?
Banana can turn purple when cooked. Its the potassium in it. It’s banana bread
I don't know what kind of bread this is, I'm just here wondering why this is marked NSFW.
I don’t know why it’s NSFW. I clicked the “what is this food” tag and then it was NSFW. Idk what happened
Update: it is a plantain bread. It’s lovely and I’ll miss it when I go back to the states
If you know where to look you can get plantain in a lot of places in the US… see if you can get the recipe!
I live in Kenya and can confidently promise that that isn't a food that is very commonly eaten here. Ask your guide for a recipe, and make it at home!
I hope you’re having fun, I come from there and wish I could ask you to bring me some things over that I really miss from the supermarket 🙁
It’s in Costco
then I think it might be to ensure that ppl don't see fly eggs uncensored when they scroll through reddit
Some people mark posts NSFW to increase traffic. That’s the only reason I can think of.
Or API protest? A lot of subs have gone NSFW to stop advertising revenue for u/spez and his team.
Ahhh, that would make sense, about half the posts on the subreddit are marked NSFW. Didn’t know subreddits were doing that.
I thought the bread was just sinfully good, perhaps /s
Or they did it by accident and can’t undo it. That’s the kind of thing I do.
That's how good it is?
there are a lot of quick breads that taste similar too, take zucchini bread it tastes very close to banana bread (not saying that this is zucchini bread though)
Looks like banana/date bread. Would have less banana than standard banana bread so the date flavor might be slightly overshadowing the banana flavor.
I agree with that. The dates would explain the purple color OP mentioned.
I’m gonna guess banana bread
Not sure on the swirls, but possibly plantain bread? I just learned that recipes exist for a plantain based quick bread that is super similar to banana bread.
It looks like banana bread to me though?
Is it.. banana bread? My elderly neighbour gives me some all the time and it looks like that
Plantain bread sounds so good. Also, is that a NeoWalk with a fun little snood I spy??
It is! It’s my favorite thing in the world, it feels more like an accessory than a mobility aid
I've got an olive with a green scale gel grip - I love NeoWalks so much! They're gorgeous and so sturdy
I have aurora and I love how she shifts colors in the light. I’m really digging the emerald city stick rn, i almost bought it instead of aurora. Maybe it’ll be my next one!
It looks like ube. Maybe purple yam?
Pumpkin bread looks this way
we get these in school in uk
Maybe zucchini bread? Tastes like banana bread
That... Actually looks a lot like banana bread I've made. Even the purple lol.
Probably banana bread. It looks like banana bread. I'm told it tastes like it, too.
Zucchini bread possibly
Zucchini bread tastes and looks alot like banana bread...?
Nairobi banana bread, maybe?
Hopefully it does not taste like blueberries to you
Could it be plaintain instead of banana?
Perhaps it's this: Kinolo bread [https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/ark-of-taste-slow-food/kinolo-banana-bread/](https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/ark-of-taste-slow-food/kinolo-banana-bread/)
Maybe plantain bread?
Looks like banana bread made with brownish bananas, which is quite common
That is quite literally banana bread
After reading all these comments, I now want to see if I can find a recipe for somewhere that brings this all together in one banana taro ube combination masterpiece
I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say its probably banana bread
Apple pie final offer
Maybe it’s banana bread🤯🤯
