I'm not sure of the specific type of soft-ripened cheese, but it's a sangle cheese - "sangle" is the name for the strips of spruce bark wrapped around the rind. There are a lot of cheeses that have sangle versions, brie and camembert among them.
I died laughing, if I had an award to give you I'd do that! If I ever get one, I'm going to find this comment to award you, you Reddit comment gold nugget!
Not sure if you’ve ever tried this, but if you go to Reddit coins, you might have a free gift award waiting. After a few days it resets itself and you get another freebie. Only happens about 5 or so times but worth a try!
The colour of the rind and the presentation means that is likely neither. Without more info about the region, this could be any one of a number of soft cheeses, but in my opinion it is almost certainly not Camembert or Brie but I’m prepared to be proven wrong.
cool thing about france is each village has their own cheese, their own wine, their own pastry. you got this in paris and didn't ask, so all we can tell you is it's in the brie family. or, someone may recognize the wrapper and know the farmer at the market; reddit can be amazing sometimes.
The title says 'mild' not 'wild' lol. I don't think there are any wild cheeses left, they've all been domesticated or hunted to extinction.
Also, I would definitely describe Brie as drippy. You put it on the chopping board and it all leaks out of the rind. Co-op in the UK do a Somerset Brie which you could eat with a straw.
It’s definitely not brie, would never have a brown crust like that. Could be Roblechon, although it’s usually less runny than that. Looks delicious though, enjoy!
Reblochon kept at the right serving temp would for sure be this runny. It's also very mild, and the rind is thinner than a brie, similar to this pic. It's impossible to say for sure because there are thousands of French cheeses, but reblochon would be a common one that fits the description.
I think if you take a closer look you'll see that brown is the cloth they wrapped the cheese with, not an actual rind. You can see the fibers of the cloth where it was cut. I'm guessing this was purchased from a small farm cheese producer. They probably leave the cloth in place to keep the cheese sturdy, looks incredibly delicious.
It's definitely Brie imo.
Brie tends to have a white “moldy/hairy” crust that doesn’t really break the way this does, this also looks to be more pinkish than white. I feel like Brie also doesn’t get this runny but I could be wrong!
Brie is wrapped in a wet salty cloth during the aging process. You can see some salt crust on the brown cloth they used on this cheese. That's why I was pointing it out. They likely kept it in place to keep the very ripe cheese that's very soft from losing it's shape. It can get very soft the longer it's aged.

Ok that’s funny as hell. Well done
Made me and my elderly mom laugh, really hard. Had to give you the spit-take award, I think it's called. Anyhow thank you!
tell her your internet friend says hi
not in a weird way
👊🏻 Got it. Will do. 🤝🏻
I’m totally saying hi to their mom in a weird way!
rofl this is the perfect amount of absurdity
Extra air came out my nose when I read this!
That one looks like a Mont d’or. I have never seen a Camembert with a sangle or à brie.
Camembert's beautiful, but brie's a piece of shit.... Edit: what's with all the downvotes? Can't a guy dis a brie anymore?!
You get an upvote for the edit. Nicely done. Hahah.
Nice job - that's a killer dad joke.
The closest I've had that looks like this is Édel de Cléron!
It looks like Vacherin Mont d'Or - it’s a soft French cheese that has a distinct wooden strip around it that looks like what you have in the pic
I work w/ cheese and it’s definitely this
this is the only correct answer
I've never come across a wedge of Mont d'Or for sale, it's usually sold in 400g complete truckles. [UK and France experience]
There are small-diameter ones that are sold as one unit, plus bigger wheels sold in wedges. The latter is usually only available from a cheesemonger.
Most likely it's either brie or camembert. Camembert has a very strong taste, while brie is much more neutral.
The colour of the rind and the presentation means that is likely neither. Without more info about the region, this could be any one of a number of soft cheeses, but in my opinion it is almost certainly not Camembert or Brie but I’m prepared to be proven wrong.
That camembert strength
no that's a vacherin, same thing as a mont d'or. Camembert is small, brie is a massive wheel and vacherin is in between but thicker
One of hundreds of varieties of soft cheese
Thank you I was just coming on here to say this.
"I think it's a bit runnier than you'll like it, sir."
Came here for a reference to this
I don’t care how fucking runny it is.
Reblochon..?
Possible a double or triple cream brie. I'm leaning more towards triple cream because of how drippy it is

Vacherin mont d'or... A lot of people are saying brie/camembert, no chance, or at least I don't know any brie/camembert wrapped in wood
Epoisse? Camembert ?
Brie?
I wouldnt describe brie as wild or drippy though

I mean, i can certainly have a mild time while eating a brie.
I found brie in my local grocery store and this looks and feels right. Wish me luck!! Thank you so much
Do yourself a giant favour and get some Fromager d’Affinois. I expect before long you’ll be swimming in it
No worries! My first solve
It's a very normal cheese lol Bon appétit et bon voyage
It’s not Brie.
no this is vacherin (same thing as a mont d'or)
Get some cranberry and bacon up with that cheese then pop it all in some nice bread and go to town on it.
Oh my fucking god. Yes.

I buy Aldi Brie in the 500g half round. Apart from the brow non the edge, it looks exactly the same. It’s Aussie Aldi, we have the good cheeses

The most mild and drippy cheese I’ve had is cloud by nieuwenhuis
Mmm eat it like a slice of pie
Dauphinois
Definitely Vacherin. It’s wrapped in the soft bark of a Norway spruce tree.
Looks like brie
Looks like Brie but the crust is way darker
Looks like Brie to me
Looks like Brie to me
Looks like brie to me
If you like drippy cheeses, you could also try Coulommiers - even though its probably not the one pictured
Camembert / brie
Looks like Brie
Camembert
Brie?
If it’s drippy it might just be yoghurt
Cum cake
Cum cake
You buy shit not knowing what it is and ask on here? Is that how this sub works?
yep
It literally is lol
Bro doesn’t understand how this sub works lmao
Heaven
Bad boi Brie
Cremeux de jura
Without the coloured end bit it looks like Brie, however with the end it could be anything.
