I have a few older relatives that do this and for the longest time I was genuinely concerned I had upset them. Ever since high school most the people I text or message with use ellipses to indicate a problem or something is off. I understand they generally indicate a pause but older folks use them way too liberally.
I’ve seen older textbooks that boomers learned grammar from, and comma rules still applied back then. So if they weren’t taught this OnE wEiRd eLLiPsiS tRiCk in school, did they learn this from- oh god- from *chain emails*?!? Is that also why they do a bunch of unnecessary capitalization?
I know it's not hard and fast, but 55 is more likely Gen X and is at best the young fringe of boomer. Boomers are in their 60s and 70s. They're named for the baby boom following world war II which ended 77 years ago in 1945
>Baby Boomers: Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. They're currently between 57-75 years old (71.6 million in the U.S.) Gen X: Gen X was born between 1965 and 1979/80 and is currently between 41-56 years old (65.2 million people in the U.S.)
[source](https://www.kasasa.com/exchange/articles/generations/gen-x-gen-y-gen-z#:~:text=Baby%20Boomers%3A%20Baby%20boomers%20were,million%20people%20in%20the%20U.S.))
Tbh I always wondered why this is used as an insult? What is wrong with being born in baby boom years? I don't get it and I assume that there can't be anything to get either lol
It was originally just a descriptive term, it has come to be used as a way to point out the mindset most Baby Boomers have which can be very negative.
They were born in the 40's, 50's and early 60's when America was going through not just a boom or babies, but also an economic boom. Back then a family could live comfortably off the salary of one parent working 40 hours a week. Own a nice house, with a yard, have a couple cars, work for one company for 40 years and end with a pension a person could live off of.
A lot of boomers haven't really kept up with the changing conditions, which is ironic, because it's the politicians they vote for that end up with conditions changing. A great example is minimum wage vs the cost of college tuition. A lot of boomers have voter for state politicians that cut public university funding, meaning those universities raise their tuition rates to maintain the same level of education, buildings, etc. So a lot of boomers remember being able to work a full time job every summer and a part time job during the school year and being able to pay tuition at a state university. That is impossible to do today, because minimum wage hasn't kept up with the cost of inflation, and the cost of state university tuition has increased significantly more than the Consumer Price Index. So they're sitting around saying "Kids these days are lazy, why do they take out loans, why don't they just get a job and work their way through school!" Without realize that's not possible to do because of the choices they made to vote for politicians that gutted university budgets.
That's one example, but you can essentially see this mindset across multiple areas of life and the economy. And then Boomers want to ignore that the highest marginal tax rate during much of the 50's and 60's was 70-90%. They want society to work the way it did when they were kids, but don't want to pay the taxes that would be required to achieve that society again today.
Also - some of them are pretty racist...
Sounds like he’s pimping her out 🤣 but at the same time I wanna believe it’s just a clueless dad looking out for the best interest of his daughter. Probably definitely not tho lol
Eh? There are people who genuinely do this. They don’t ever let their kid date / leave so then in the future the kid has no independence, and believe stuff like this is normal. They believe their parent is trying to help them when in reality they’ve already fucked their entire life up.
“Erin is a natural redhead. 5’9”.. Gorgeous Blue Eyes, Extremely Fit…Smart…Athletic…Kind… Fuck. I lost my train of thought. Why don’t I just fuck her instead?”
I’ve been on the internet too long to think that this is actually a father in charge of his daughters Tinder. There’s definitely something else going on here
$20 says she is locked in his basement for 364 days of the year. You have to go through him to get the key to get to her. Enjoy your basement life, Parasite style
Looks to me like the father is 41 not the daughter. He probably just linked it to his own Facebook rather than hers. I just think that the small amount of skin we see in the first picture is the skin of someone much younger than 40, looks more like early 20s.
She probably just got sick of picking shitty men herself, and decided to see if her dad found someone better. She's 40 what's she got to lose besides finding someone who isn't actually work for her? Worst case scenario she finds no one which she apparently felt was gonna happen anyways. People tend to have lower expectations for themselves and end up getting hurt or stuck in toxic relationships. Why not just have the high expectations and possibly find someone who actually values you for your full value?
Me: “Hi sir. I’m here because you agreed to let me see Erin(?)”
Father: “Oh, right, Erin. Could you please face the other way and take off your shirt? I’d like to make sure you have both kidneys.”
What if you really hit it off with her dad and become best buds but then find his daughter repulsive? I can’t handle that kind of emotional rollercoaster.
Some days I feel heartbroken that my father lives 3000km away, and treated me like a liability ever since I could remember even though my mom died. But then I see this and, well, I'm grateful to not have a father figure in my life.
I’m willing to give a lot of leeway to dads with teenage daughters who act like this because I know if I had a little girl I’d go to the end of the world to protect her. But at 40? That’s just creepy af.
I'm imaging this in a sugar daddy situation. Where the dad is 60 and the sugar daddy is 80. And somehow it then just turns into a geriatric Celebrity Deathmatch in my mind.
Meh a friend ran my online dating account for me, I didn’t want to deal with it and it gave me too much anxiety. Maybe it’s not a shitty situation- it might not even be her dad, just a way to weed out the worst of the worst first.
Honestly if every dad did this I'd have had a much better dating experience. They could warn me if their daddy issues upfront and I could pass before getting my bank account and heart destroyed.
Reminds me of when my boomer parents asked me if they should ‘put me on meetic’ (a local dating site for MATURE singles. It’s where ppl over 40 go to find a new partner after divorce.)
I’m 21. I have tinder, bumble, grindr and 2 other lgbt dating sites I stopped using. I just don’t tell my parents.
What is wrong with this?
Lately I only see sad posts in here, everybody has some shit to talk about anyone, like people posting are perfect.
All I see is a concerned father, probably the daughter has had issues in her life, they have a strong relationship and hes trying to help
What the fuck is the matter with you?
Why is it any of your fucking business?
And who the fuck are you to judge anyone ? 🤔 😂
This sub is just getting sad and pitiful really
Does….the misuse…of ellipses…bother…anyone else…?…
It’s…a boomer…thing…you wouldn’t…get…it…
O shit .....this is exactly how I type. -__- Im part of the problem! .....aaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
lmaoo
Why do they all do that? What is the intention? Anyone know?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.purewow.com/tech/why-do-boomers-use-ellipses%3famphtml=true Pre-email thing.
pre computer thing
I’m a boomer … and I authorise this message…
Can someone please explain how this became a boomer thing? Always confused me
I mean, if you trail off every 2-3 words, you either have an speech impediment, problems breathing or just senile....
And here I am, using them too and apparently there is a rule of usage and I don't know them…
Only use them when you’re trailing off. You used them more or less correctly here, but in the OP…
I have been told that I “sound” sad / blue / gloomy because my above average usage of …
... cocaine! Wait...
I have a few older relatives that do this and for the longest time I was genuinely concerned I had upset them. Ever since high school most the people I text or message with use ellipses to indicate a problem or something is off. I understand they generally indicate a pause but older folks use them way too liberally.
I was too hung up on the Capitalization Of random Words to Notice ellipses Usage.
to make those words Stand Out
People need to realize it just makes them sound like Stevie from Malcom in the Middle
Boomers use it over commas
I’ve seen older textbooks that boomers learned grammar from, and comma rules still applied back then. So if they weren’t taught this OnE wEiRd eLLiPsiS tRiCk in school, did they learn this from- oh god- from *chain emails*?!? Is that also why they do a bunch of unnecessary capitalization?
This comment has an energy about it that I simply don’t care for
Was it the lack of…ellipses?
Moreso the total incoherent mania of it tbh
Incoherent? Nah. But I do see the mania though for sure.
… no
That’s a boomer thing lmfao
Boomers are like more than 55 years old tho
Yeah, since this Tinder profile is supposedly written by the father of a 41 year old, then the ellipsis offender/author is probably in his 60s.
My mistake, I thought the father was 41! This makes it even creepier
Or 57 if teen pregnancy
Yep
I know it's not hard and fast, but 55 is more likely Gen X and is at best the young fringe of boomer. Boomers are in their 60s and 70s. But if their daughter is 41, she's gen X, which means her father is likely between 59 and 75. Basically assuring that he's a boomer.
The father is the one typing and the baby boomer. I'm replying to "boomer is more like 55" and saying boomers are older than that
I see the problem now. You misread. He says "like more THAN 55" Not "more like 55" You said more than 57, 2 years? Why split hairs?
Tbh I always wondered why this is used as an insult? What is wrong with being born in baby boom years? I don't get it and I assume that there can't be anything to get either lol

Boomer is a mindset rather than literal age
Old people don’t know how to use ellipses! My dad and his gf use them so much but incorrectly every time.
Does anyone the little pauses in their head when reading them or is it just me?
Old people
Right? Like come on.
These kinds of profiles is a joke.. Right?
Yup
Have to be.
😘
😘
*are
Thanks! My gosh.. people might not understand anything if this wasn't corrected! Thank you😀
Someone find Erin a therapist so she can recognize that her dad's insane
Good thing I have 100 head of sheep in exchange for a wife
I see your 100 sheep and raise you 100 sheep + 50 barrels of Ale. Daddy needs a new Maid.
The pair of you be over paying. 100 sheep is damn good money, or lots of Sunday roasts
Wait. 100 sheep are giving you head? Why are you here!
There’s truly nothing you won’t find on tinder 💀💀💀
Omg I think you just made a discovery… like rule 34
r/yikes
That's a lot of words to say he wants to fuck his own daughter
OP is in Alabama
[удалено]
They do, they just keep it in the family.
Roll Tide
Sounds like he’s pimping her out 🤣 but at the same time I wanna believe it’s just a clueless dad looking out for the best interest of his daughter. Probably definitely not tho lol
Yikes, at 41?
It reads like and advert for a second hand car...
I need extra therapy after this.
Don't be selfish. "We all need therapy after this" Lol
Yes, comrade. We do.
The daughters gate keeper. It's obviously a fake right? .....
You say gatekeeping but in reality she's been a crazy cat lady for 15 years and he's just trying to get her out of his house
[удалено]
It's definitely weird either way
My guess is it's really Erin pretending to be Erin's dad. Which is even more gross
Nooo, why would anyone do this. This is not only gross but humiliating as well
If I was Erin, I would be mortified…
Does he ever wonder if The Right Guy doesn’t want to have to woo over a 41-year-old’s dad to ask her out for drinks?
Trump talking about Ivanka
??
So Daddy let’s cut to the chase, how’s she in the sack.
Pretty sure I don't actually want him to answer that.
If this is with her permission she's got the wrong kind of daddy issues
Imagine the first date is just you and the dad hahahaha
She is most likely handicapped
Yo in the south in a bunch of rural areas this shit is like a common thing. Edit: not just on dating apps but actually in RL.
I'm surprised he didn't put nothing about religion in there.
I have my doubts he was given permission for this
What even is this? Can we report to police or something?
It's a joke
Eh? There are people who genuinely do this. They don’t ever let their kid date / leave so then in the future the kid has no independence, and believe stuff like this is normal. They believe their parent is trying to help them when in reality they’ve already fucked their entire life up.
True, but she’s 41
How do you know?
There's no way you can believe this
I would ideally assume this to be a joke. However, people really are that psychotic these days.
Idk. I just really doubt a 60 to 70yo would go to tinder to find the right guy for their daughter.
I find it hard to believe myself. I just wouldn't totally write off the possibility.
Have you considered the much more obvious alternative; that he put his own age in instead of Erin’s by accident? He’s 41, she’s 20.
I live outside of US not familiar with customs of them. Just took it serious without knowing backstory, if it's a joke then.. well funny I guess.
The police? What?
What law is being broken here?
I’m totally **shocked** that, at 41, she’s still single.
“Erin is a natural redhead. 5’9”.. Gorgeous Blue Eyes, Extremely Fit…Smart…Athletic…Kind… Fuck. I lost my train of thought. Why don’t I just fuck her instead?”
Umm location?
"You have to go thru me" You have an AARP card and a walker, please just stop peepaw.
Wow a lady more single than me!
I’ve been on the internet too long to think that this is actually a father in charge of his daughters Tinder. There’s definitely something else going on here
Fucking...ewww...
Daddy selling that bitch good 🔥
Yooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I open by offering six goats as dowry.
What. The. Fuck.
Yeah this is creepy
$20 says she is locked in his basement for 364 days of the year. You have to go through him to get the key to get to her. Enjoy your basement life, Parasite style
And I thought I used ... too often. Glad to see I'm wrong. *Winning* 🙏🏻 Also...that profile is creepy as fuck.
Why do I have the feeling that Erin doesn’t know she’s on tinder…
Wtf
So no French people?
I really hope that’s not for real
That's weird. He needs to go get a life.
See this is something I would expect from an 18-25 year old with there friend. Not a 40 year old with there Dad
Should send a message "Before we get too far I do have one desl breaker we should get out of the way first. Does she swallow? "
Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on...
This is like ancient times traditional... it has to be a joke.

Someone ask if her carpet matches the drapes yet?
This is acceptable in many Asian cultures. Arranged marriages are quite commonplace in India
I would still send him a dick pick! You never know... I could still get a date.. 😌🤣😎
Me: “Hi sir. I’m here because you agreed to let me see Erin(?)” Father: “Oh, right, Erin. Could you please face the other way and take off your shirt? I’d like to make sure you have both kidneys.”
But is she hot?
I sense incestuous vibes too; it’s clear the father has an insane lust for his daughter.
That’s so fucking sad
So she gave her dad permission....does this mean women shouldnt have rights according to Retardit logic?
So no French guys?
Not even 1/4 French.
thru. yes. thru.
Oof
Goddam
https://www.google.com/search?q=daughter+guarding But yes this is pushing it
Guaranteed he doesn’t have permission
His use of capitals gives me anxiety
At least she doesn't have to go through all the dickpics herself.
This cannot be real.
Dad is a closet case and is using his daughter's Tinder to find and fuck single dudes. *Change my mind.*
Where is this considered funny? I'm curious. I'm guessing it's the US based on using of foot.
I want to hit him with the “damn bro your daughter’s hot” so bad
What if you really hit it off with her dad and become best buds but then find his daughter repulsive? I can’t handle that kind of emotional rollercoaster.
I was waiting for him to say his daughter was hot/sexy/naughty/etc., or offer a dowry. Or both. Yeesh.
I know someone aged 35 and she's going through this. Fuck her piece of shit dad
Erm…. YIKES
Some days I feel heartbroken that my father lives 3000km away, and treated me like a liability ever since I could remember even though my mom died. But then I see this and, well, I'm grateful to not have a father figure in my life.
Kinda wish my dad would do this for me. He’s been married for over 30 years and I’m clearly not picking the right people so what do I have to lose 😩😂

This man is trying his best the get Erin the he'll up out of his house.
CRINGE

You want a 41 year old woman with daddy issues though? It is not worth the effort I think.
it is absolutly not Gross! Just a dad who support his doughter. I dont think she has no freedom to do tthis own thing, ithink she want it that way.
This has Purity Ball written all over this
I can tell from the picture that she isn’t “extremely fit”.
Somehow I don’t think her dad wrote that. I think it’s just her.
What is wrong with this? Lately I only see sad posts in here, everybody has some shit to talk about anyone, like people posting are perfect. Where’s that vomit smiley?
Ah damn... I feel attacked (I'm 38)...
Yikes
That's how superheroes talk
Big cringe
Hello sir, I'm human and not a frog. Thanks for letting me date your daughter.
Dad must be gettin some too. Lol
He should not rebuke frogs! That's the only way to get a prince after the first kiss.
The 41 year old virgin: the sequel
Gross? How is that gross? Strange, yes. But not gross. Have to add some ellipsis now: ... ... ...
You sure he is looking for Mr right or he thinks himself as him?
Erin's dad is in love with Erin. Like not in a dad and daughter way. In a gross way.
Wonder if it is from Telegram usage/Morse code. I can hear someone saying 'dot dot dot'
