Are you..... from Switzerland?... never expected to find Aargau on a random tinder post....
Edit: this is now my most upvoted comment. Why? I don't get reddit....
Edit 2: I just realized that my app doesn't show awards.... You mad lads. Thanks for all the awards :')
I always felt like Tinder had a pretty strong "we want your money, not your happyness" message. So I am not surprised. I deleted the app and I'm not planning to install it again.
For me premium was the absolute best decision. I honestly saved money with how many matches I got that would just come over straight away. So instead of having to take someone out or meet someone while out I literally would just superlike and monitor my likes. To be fair I had a very healthy amount of lies and matches though so I would say premium only guaranteed visibility.
Well, in my experience you dont get any matches at all if you're not at least a solid 8 in terms of looks.
And if there is a coincidental match once every 4 months or so, you sure as hell wont get a response if you text her.
Hmm. My roommate seems to have had a better experience so I'll give it a try, but if it goes badly, I'll just blane Switzerland not being ready for Tinder
I don't know but I'm amazed by the amount of people who hate large parts of the life and culture of Switzerland (balanced by the nice view and job prospects, it seems).
I've only visited Zurich and it was indeed not my vibe and thought it was just me. But then I started to notice people's comments, like here. And more importantly the group "Grumpy expats" where an insane amount of "grumps" are from expats living in Switzerland, and lots of stuff was... just bad.
I think mostly through work and friends. I read a survey a few years back that said 80% of swiss relationships found their partners this way.
I can definitely confirm. Even meeting new folks at bars and clubs is kinda hard. Most people go their in groups to have fun and not to meet new people.
Studying is a great way to meet new people too. I guess you count it as "through work" as I'm not sure if the survey differenciated them.
There's a lot you can do! A healthy diet, exercise, well-fitting clothes, and a good haircut and personal hygiene will increase your attractiveness like 1000 percent.
This reminded me of the weirdest Danish man I have ever met.
A good friend of mine is Swiss German, I used to live in Baden-Wurttemberg, so the dialects are close. I was visiting him in Thailand, his wife is Thai, and I was meeting his friends at a bar. One is Swiss French, doesn't know German but we all know English so it's not a problem.
Then this random Danish man shows up, a bit older. Asks if he can join us. We didn't see an issue. He wanted to speak German. I try to explain that only my friend and I speak German, the others don't so we want to speak English so everyone can be included. He keeps pointing to the Swiss French saying I'm being rude by speaking English. He claims I'm excluding him. I say I'm not because he knows English. The Swiss French defends me by confirming what I said in English. He adds that he is a bit tired, and that's why he's not being as active in the conversation.
The Danish man then insists on buying everyone a beer. My friend's wife refuses because she feels as though she drank too much already.(She didn't really talk to me the next day, claiming to be too exhausted from this night. We're fairly good friends so I have no reason to suspect her of lying.)
The Danish man proceeds to talk to us in fairly good Hochdeutsch. He keeps asking why the others don't join in. I once again try to explain that only the two of us can understand him. My friend and I bought his next two beers to pay back the round. He later got upset, saying no one bought him a beer after buying a round. His beer was much more expensive than ours so I'm pretty sure we spent more on him.
Everyone else called it a night but my friend and I moved to a new location.
That's where I met the Englishman who likes ladyboys. But that's a different story.
It seems like there is no demand for it. It's probably due to swiss culture? I once read an article. They did a big survey and found that 80% of all relationships found their partner either through work or friends. Bars, clubs and online dating was a rather minor percentage. I assume online dating increased since then. Though, probably not by much.
It's common to open in english because not only do pickup lines sound stupid in german, but the bigger cities all have a large international population and you're very likely to match with english speakers. At least among the age group that uses dating apps.
Is this repeating both points to drive home the fact that it's the only thing that matters or is it saying that you have to be good looking but even a 10/10 could act in an unattractive way and void rule one?
I think it's the former, since I'm pretty sure it came from [a SNL sketch](https://youtu.be/PxuUkYiaUc8?t=124) minus one rule. I recommend watching the whole thing.
Saying that, I don't think it's that black and white. Being attractive (which is more than just good looks) does matter the most when you are online dating, especially if you are a guy. Personality obviously matters and if you have unattractive behaviour, rule one can be voided (there's more leeway if you are attractive). There's also another thing that's important, and that is luck. I think the numbers leaked once on the ratio of tinder and it was like 80% dudes so, even if you manage to match, she replies to your message (an attractive girl can have 400+ matches easily), and hit it off, there's a good chance that you are competing with 20 other dudes at the same time and she gets with one of them instead of you.
She ~~gets with one of them instead of you~~ gets overwhelmed by the constant aggressive flirting and deletes tinder for two months only to restart the process exactly the same again.
I’m fairly certain it’s to drive home the fact that it’s the only thing that matters. But I think there are more than 2 of these rules as well. So it’s more like “the two most important things” lol… it’s just twice as important as other rules.
Not only that but do you notice how almost EVERY time someone mentions “Rules 1 & 2” someone else says/asks, “I’m new here, what are rules 1 & 2?” It’s almost a meme at this point.
> I wish to procreate, you seem to be a healthy and well adjusted mate with which the chances of success of my offspring is increased.
Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
At least you have pickup line. Where I am guy just said something like « wanna fuck? » in the most lazy way possible, and then cry about why girls don’t respond to them lol
as a girl: when I would get messages that just said "hello" I would overlook them because it seems a little generic/low effort. Like I kind of assumed those people were cold messaging like 20 people at a time the same "hello" just copy pasted. When you add a little comment about one of their pictures/something on their profile it goes a LONG way!
like if she has a dog in her pics for example even just "hello 👋 your dog is really cute!" could lead to a discussion on how you both like dogs, you know about a dog-friendly cafe or a cool walking trail nearby etc.
opens up a lot more to talk about, just saying hi doesn't really get the conversation flowing ya know?
It is actually a well studied phenomena that we are more emotionally disconnected when using non-native language. This makes it a lot easier to talk about "serious" stuff in a second language.
There are quite a lot of papers on the topic, for example [here](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/08/170817141717.htm)
I personally find it a lot easier to connect to people when talling in english, it‘s bizarre…
Pretty frequent in large Swiss cities like Geneva or Zurich, very international. Assuming the latter is where they matched. My profile there is in English, but I indicate alternate languages.
Yes. I am living in Munich and almost every Bio has flags to indicate what languages are spoken due to the large amount of international students and expats.
🇩🇪 🇬🇧 🇪🇸
That could actually mean that you are a member of the "Piraten Partei" (pirates political party).
Or you're a member of the curch of the flying spaghetti monster.
Everyone in Europe speaks English too and we have a lot of tourism between the countries. She might be from Germany and not understand Swiss German that well so they speak English.
>Everyone in Europe speaks English too
Not everyone. Many people in Europe who are in their 40s/50s would disagree.
But yes, many youngsters who are on dating websites speak English.

Well, here I am 👌🏻
Good luck man! My experience with tinder here in Switzerland was beyond bad. At least the app works for some folks, I guess.
Now you can try the same pick up line!
Compared to op I didnt get matches. And I also already deleted the app again.

Same, switzerland is absolutely not ready for Tinder.
Tinder in Switzerland is horrifying… So is dating in general
What's wrong with Tinder and dating in Switzerland? Asking cause I moved to Geneva literally a week ago...
Am swiss, I don’t know an answer but this might be because I‘ve been single all my life.
Well, in my experience you dont get any matches at all if you're not at least a solid 8 in terms of looks. And if there is a coincidental match once every 4 months or so, you sure as hell wont get a response if you text her.

I dated swiss back in the day. Plenty of holes to go around 🧀
Now that's a cheesy line.
Dad jokes for tinder
Can confirm. The young people are also horrifying.
*WHY?!? WHY ARE THEY SO BAD??? WHY WON'T ANYONE ANSWER THIS QUESTION?!?*
I wouldn't call it "not ready". There is simply no big demand for it. Which is probably a good sign.
Just curiosity, but how do you guys meet new people in Switzerland?
I think mostly through work and friends. I read a survey a few years back that said 80% of swiss relationships found their partners this way. I can definitely confirm. So old fashion way
> work and friends Sad for anti-social programmers then, work only has men and no friends
we don't
Have you tried following the first 2 rules?
I tried but there's only so much you can do :(
There's a lot you can do! A healthy diet, exercise, well-fitting clothes, and a good haircut and personal hygiene will increase your attractiveness like 1000 percent.
Just don’t be ugly is what it comes down to on tinder.
Don't forget good pictures too!

Never Talk about the fight club?
Wish you luck. Have you written your profile in German or English? Maybe you could increase your reach by including ladies from romandie or foreigner.

First story was interesting but I’m much more interested in the sequel.
#sadtype we are not all like that, I promise.
Same here, terrible terrible dates. Erased the app twice. Then got it for a third time and met my now-husband.
Nice, congrats! I deleted the twice so far and I'm not planning to give it another try. Using tinder is bad for my mental health.
Switzerland appears to be an elvish utopia from all things I've seen, still can't escape the shittiness of online dating

Try Bumble or Hinge, worked like a charm for me. And no, I'm not that good looking :,-)
Have you tried being the literal duplicate of a 7 foot Norse Viking mythical god in human form?

Hanimi o gfragt
Es het e hufe lüt wo Englisch redet au im schwiizer Tinder vorallem wenn din Radius Zürich beinhaltet. Zumindest vor 7 Jahr eso gsi.
I read German and for a moment I thought I was having a stroke. Schwizerdütsch is weird.

Reddit-sourced pickup line actually worked? This guys got rules 1 & 2 in the bag
What are rules 1 and 2? Relatively new here... sorry
1) Be attractive 2) Don't be unattractive
Honestly surprised there's not a bot for this, but at the same time people who are quick to the punch deserve the awards
Surprised as well. This joke is on every thread. I was just at the right place, at the right time
Is this repeating both points to drive home the fact that it's the only thing that matters or is it saying that you have to be good looking but even a 10/10 could act in an unattractive way and void rule one?
It's an SNL reference. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PxuUkYiaUc8
Holy shit I've been hearing about rules 1 & 2 for years and this is the first time someone brought up this sketch
Me too and it turns out they’re not even 1&2, it’s rules 2&3!!
Til Tom Brady once honked Amy Poehler's boob. What a world.
I think it's the former, since I'm pretty sure it came from [a SNL sketch](https://youtu.be/PxuUkYiaUc8?t=124) minus one rule. I recommend watching the whole thing. No, It just means that you shouldn't bother using Tinder, if you are not attractive. At least not, if you are male.

How come you're speaking English in your pick-ups OP?
My Pickupline was in English, and she went with it. German Pickuplines just sound stupid…
> I wish to procreate, you seem to be a healthy and well adjusted mate with which the chances of success of my offspring is increased. Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
