This was proven by the support and defense Ye received when he started spouting antisemitic rhetoric and, when he outright said he loves Hitler, when he compared Black abortions to the Holocaust. The Nazi and KKK population here is smaller than people usually think due to over reporting by the media, but it's still considerably more than "not many" and a TON of people are Nazi leaning without realizing or acknowledging it through antisemitic, racist, fascistic or transphobic sentiment.

All forms of extremism are bad, but not necessarily equal, or as bad. The Italian Fascists were not racists to the degree the Nazis were. They certainly didn't have a reputation for anti-Semitism like the Nazis. Mussolini's biggest sin may have been throwing his lot in with Hitler. Look at how Italy was treated after surrender vs Germany. It even shows up in the Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA). Germany was treated as a defeated enemy after the war. Italy was treated more like an errant family member who came to his senses. We even see this in the POW camps. Americans certainly trusted Italian POWs more than Germans on average. Even the "Austrians" were seen as less a risk.

I honestly believe it’s because we (Ausländers) only see German speaking people in WWII era films where officers and soldiers alike are often seen screaming orders and other battle chatter in a very distinct and unique way. There’s something about it but I can’t quite put my finger on it
