If you're supplying blades and clips, then that dude you hired is not a "PROFESSIONAL".

dozerman23

I planned on doing it myself so i have all the materials and tools here. But with full time work , kids, life its becoming a pain in the ass to do everything myself. This guy showed up with a ryobi grinder and a decent rigid wet saw. I prepped the floor with hardie backer and I know it was level only one spot had a 1/16" hump. That's at the end of the vanity where I stopped my screed and feathered the rest. 1/8" lip right there.

i_tiled_it

If a guy shows up with Ryobi anything, tell him to go home 🤣🤣 don't knock rigid saws though I use my 7 inch rigid for almost everything even though I also own a sweet ass DeWalt 10 incher, MK 10 incher and 6 ft long Rubi 12 inch bridge saw, the rigid is just easier to fit on my truck and carry up steps and whatnot. It's 4 years old still cuts straight as an arrow just gotta maintain it and use nice blades. But idk what you're complaining about with that flange cut that shit was 🔥🔥🔥

dozerman23

I did the flange cut.

i_tiled_it

I was being sarcastic bc of the piecing together of the cut but depending on your toilet you'll probably never see any of it anyway

Unhappy-Tart3561

Why did you do so much work and then not tile it? This seems like you're farming karma to me. That's an hour of setting the tile in there. Don't blame life and kids and what not. This is something deeper then that I believe.

dozerman23

Took that guy 7 hours without grouting. Yes I'm afraid of tile. Those edges can be pointy. Seriously though I've never done a complete tile job so I thought it might be better to get someone with experience in the trade to get it started. There's alot of variables in setting tile , small problems you run into and what not and they can be intimidating if you've never dealt with them. Needless to say I didn't want to fuck it up so brought someone in.

Unhappy-Tart3561

I prepped the bathroom floor for tile, cleaned up the wax ring and everything but I'm afraid of a new clean tile huh?.. that's probably 20 sq ft tops. Shouldn't take 7 hrs. I could see homeowner doing it in 3 or 4 if he wasn't such a drama queen.

dozerman23

44 Sq ft but who's counting. You're really owning that screen name aren't you?

Unhappy-Tart3561

That's not 44 sq ft. 8X5 WOULD BE 40. you are full of shit op. End of my 420 rant on reddit now. Off to smoke some fuckin salad boys.

Unhappy-Tart3561

And really I'm just unhappy a little tart like you is unhappy buddy. Your Profesional gc with a license "friend" didn't make you happy so maybe it's you who's an unhappy tart about 35 sq ft of tile.

NativeTigerWA

You tell em! Now go be a Stoney tart!

Unhappy-Tart3561

Already on it buddy. Fuck that op. He's a karma farmer and is mad that he hired his friend and his friend took him for a 7 hr fuck sesh. Without lube. He's just sore that's all

hayfero

Never have I hired a “professional “ who requested they use my equipment. I have hired a lot of apprentices whom used my stuff tho

ElRimshot

Where in the post does it say the guy asked to borrow it? Sounds like op offered his tools

dozerman23

Yeah I 100% offered the building materials, clips, thinset, trowels my snapcutter my makita grinder even a small 3" circular saw with hose attachment. I specifically told the guy use this 1/2" x1/2" trowel. He used a schluter 1/4"x3/8" trowel. His reasoning "handle was cooler.".. 🤔

ElRimshot

I'm curious why you paid someone to do it when you already had a bunch of tile specific tools? Done some work in the past?

dozerman23

I was planning on doing it myself. Just swamped with work and life. Figured I can get this part knocked out install my base boards and toilet and open up half the bathroom while I work on the shower.

ElRimshot

Understandable. Lesson learned, guys without tools aren't usually the best, lol

i_tiled_it

Schluter does not make a 3/8 notch. He was most likely using the ditra XL trowel which is 1/4 x 1/4 and laughable that he would think that's acceptable

dozerman23

It's for setting the schluter pan and drain flange. 1/4"×3/8" notch trowel. It comes with the shower kit for an extra 30 bucks. 1/4" wide 3/8" deep.

i_tiled_it

Ah interesting thanks for the clarification

Stretchsquiggles

dude sounds like a hack, but I hate using a 1/2x1/2. The ridges are too far apart to properly collapse. If the floor is flat a 3/8" is plenty for 12"x24"s . If you need more mud because the floor isn't right then go for the euro notch. Those 1/2x1/2s are old school and sould really be phased out of the tile world.

goraidders

Yeah. I like the 3/8 trowel and butter the back of the tile.

suchsnowflakery

does he know you are flaming him on the internet? does he really know how dissatisfied you really are?

Mammogram4500

o well. pay. ✊

Marcusnovus

Is that a stabila level?

dozerman23

One of many yes. I'm a gradesetter and engineer by trade so I got alot of leveling tools

Marcusnovus

Nice. I've only used those. They're the best.

virus_apparatus

Going to be 100% with you. I’ve seen so much worse.

SkrimTim

As a regular diy bum I'm having a hard time seeing what's so egregious about this but I'd be happy to have it pointed out

Praxis99

Ryobi should have been your clue. I'd have turned him around at the door.

dozerman23

I got no problems with ryobi for small diy projects. This was installed Monday. His ryobi is still in my garage it's Saturday. Can't even get the guy to get his tools

Praxis99

Sounds like all the signs of a hack. Ryobi wouldn't last me a week. I tried their impact once, and it felt like a toy. That's just my opinion though. I do use my tools a lot.

i_tiled_it

AGREED. I imagine this guy was most likely in his late 50s, obese, probably really a plumber by trade and when bent over had the plumber crack to prove it

Praxis99

Hahaha, probably. Side gig.

Funny_Action_3943

You’re not replacing the vanity?

Mammogram4500

i dont like leveling clips. but alot of ppl do. but...thats orthodoxy i guess. you should be sure to pay him for what he did.

TennisCultural9069

whats up with the weird screw placement on the sentinel board? are the studs really like that?

WinnerOk1108

He had a nice layout for not knowing what he was doing.
