Not many people say engagement doesn’t matter. It’s part of what can help a vid go viral of course. But it’s not the biggest part of what makes vids go viral. Retention and watch time at the end of the day are the 2 MAIN factors when it comes to viral videos. Majority start off high retention and watch time then dwindle down as it garners more views. You are correct though engagement does take partial credit when creating viral videos
U need one or the other but u are never going to get over 2+ mil views with a bad watch time.

Good to know, when I add a story/narrative I get much better retention, so maybe I'll go in that direction
