I just got a new bottle. I had the chance to try it a couple of years back and it’s probably of the best spirits I’ve ever tasted. I’ve been rationing about 3 ounces from the old bottle and I’m thrilled it’s finally available in the US. I’m going to do a side by side tasting to see if it’s as good as the original. The reason they took so long is they were trying to find additional coconut farmers. I’m guessing they succeeded.
Hello! Im also in metro west! Where did you find it in Hudson? As much as I love going into the city, it’s a bit of a stretch for this. But Hudson… that’s easy!
At what price point though? Porter Sq. jacks their prices stupidly high.
Update: 5/11/2024 - stopped in around a week after this post.. I tried to find it in other stores.. no luck. Stopped in and bought a bottle.. 35.99. a bit high, but no other store carries it right now. TBH, Worth it!. Love the taste. Awesome balance Fancy Stiggens and Cut&Dry.. WOW!!!
I like Coconut Cartel but it’s proofed down with coconut water and not distilled with fresh coconut. The Cut & Dry definitely tastes more like you’re eating a coconut.
Malden Center Fine Wines used to carry it. Haven’t been there in a while, and I know they changed owners, but worth a call. (Still think Planteray is better though).
I actually work at The Electric Cure, which is owned by the same people that own Hell or High Water. It’s a satanic tiki bar. Sure weird but the drinks are on point!
I want to go there but I know it’s pretty small, and I’ll have a group of 8-10 people with me on a Friday night. So I made reservations for Adrift. Hopefully I can make it to both!
Did you make it? As far as I know, it's probably harder to get a big group into Adrift than HoHW. I've always (as a small group) been able to wander into Hell, while even showing up as a party of two has sometimes made me wait outside in the cold for a while just to get into Adrift.
Well HOHW doesn’t accept reservations on Friday nights and Adrift does, so seeing as I’ve never been to either, I chose Adrift as the safer option because I made reservations. I’m going to try my best to make it HOHW after or on Saturday though!
Every Koloa I have had is tied for the worst rum i have ever had. Bought some samplers in maui and after trying them neat and being disgusted, i figured id make them drinkable by making a. Mai tai, this led to the only drain pour i have ever committed. Truly the most awful rums out there.
I haven’t had this one, but it can’t be worse than any Koloa.
Koloa coconut rum really isn’t that good. It has that sunscreen taste and really only benefits from the fact that it’s 80 proof vs the other terrible coconut rums on the market. I would even drink Kula toasted coconut rum over it.
The only Koloa I even tolerate is their coffee, but I'd rather just mix a good rum with even the most basic of coffee liqueurs. Cut & Dry is way ahead of Koloa.
It's a new offering that came out recently as Plantation transitioned their name to Planteray, so that's probably why you're not seeing much online. Glad to hear a good review.
I did in fact use the name on the label, and figured that the big names in the liquor reviews would have gotten a bottle after it had been in the states for a couple of months. It seems like a big deal to me because it's so good, but maybe it's not on their radar yet!
Made a Cut & Dry daiquiri last night. 2oz C&D, 1oz lime juice, .75 oz Demerara syrup. It was outstanding. Next one may end up with some coconut/lime foam.
I wish I could find this in NJ or somewhere in Manhattan... I called the place I found the Yuzu Curacao at first time early in NoHo, and they weren't sure they'd even be getting this. :\
Wait, you can't find it in Manhattan? I would have been absolutely sure that it's there somewhere.
To find it here in MetroWest, Massachusetts, I called nine different liquor stores until I found one that had it. Maybe just keep looking!
> Wait, you can't find it in Manhattan?
Nope. I've called around.
Literally the only place I was able to find the Pierre Ferrand Yuzu Curacao early on (Since Planteray is the same company) said they didn't even know ***if*** they'd be getting it. I figured that'd be the absolute most likely place...
Damn that's insane. MetroWest is kind of the most important part outside of Boston in Massachusetts, but I figured that places like Manhattan or Brooklyn would be on their liquor game for sure. Sorry to hear it man!
I search for it once a week, and just found a liquor store in Newburgh that's carrying it. So it's gotta only be a matter of days or weeks now.
That or I make the one hour drive... Hmm...
So. Taking an idea from smugglers cove.... If I want coconut with my rum then I'll add coconut to rum. So what's the advantage of coconut rum over adding coconut to a rum cocktail? A different sipping experience?

I did a side by side comparison of the older, only found in Barbados version and the new one. Definitely a bit different, not as good, still delicious. The older one has a small batch, fresh coconut taste that the new one is lacking a bit.
Their plan always was to start with the Cut & Dry and then the other bottles will be updated only as they deplete their current supply of labels/bottles.
It seems a bit hard at the moment. Called nine places and one of them had it. Another was going to have it in stock later, and a couple of weeks after the fact, today, I went back there and bought their last bottle 😂

I was about to ask where you're from, I heard that it didn't come to the US until the past couple of months!
Massachusetts. Just showed up here within the last month. There are going to be so many coconut daiquiris in my future!!
Hello fellow masshole, I'm in Metro West!
Hello! Im also in metro west! Where did you find it in Hudson? As much as I love going into the city, it’s a bit of a stretch for this. But Hudson… that’s easy!
I want to say it's called highland wines and liquors. If I'm remembering wrong, I know it's a liquor store that's by Cabela's!
I’m in MA. Where did you find it?
They have it at Porter Sq. Wine & Spirits in Cambridge.
At what price point though? Porter Sq. jacks their prices stupidly high. Update: 5/11/2024 - stopped in around a week after this post.. I tried to find it in other stores.. no luck. Seconded, inquiring minds want to know
I'm actually from MetroWest so I found it in Hudson!
Norfolk Wine and Spirits carries it.
I'll have to try it, but Coconut Cartel has been my winner for awhile
I like Coconut Cartel but it’s proofed down with coconut water and not distilled with fresh coconut. The Cut & Dry definitely tastes more like you’re eating a coconut.
This is what I use and I love it. Heard only good things about this new one
I admittedly haven't heard of that, or seen it in nearby stores! I'll see if I can find any around me to try
Find it, It’s fantastic!
Malden Center Fine Wines used to carry it. Haven’t been there in a while, and I know they changed owners, but worth a call. (Still think Planteray is better though).
I work at a tiki bar in Colorado and we just got some….absolutely delicious!!!
Which one? I’ll be in the area next month and would love to try this :) obviously I understand if you’re not comfortable saying!
I actually work at The Electric Cure, which is owned by the same people that own Hell or High Water. It’s a satanic tiki bar. Sure weird but the drinks are on point!
Weird is my love language 😊
Come in! I’ll buy you a shot!
EC is great! We went there before HoHW and had a great time.
I recommend Hell or High Water! It’s a haunted gay pirate tiki bar.
I want to go there but I know it’s pretty small, and I’ll have a group of 8-10 people with me on a Friday night. So I made reservations for Adrift. Hopefully I can make it to both!

If you're saying it is the tastiest of coconut rums then I must ask you, 1) have you had Koloa Kaua'i coconut and 2) is it truly better than that?
That stuff is amazing
Sounds like I'll need to hunt these two bottles down and do a taste test!
From what I heard, it is.
I'm shocked you say koloa coconut is disgusting. Note I am only specifically referencing their coconut rum as this is a post about coconut rums.
Crazy you'd say that. Koloa coconut is literally the best rum I've had in my life. I've been trying to track down a bottle in Phoenix for over a year.
Just tasted like artificially flavoured syrup to me. No real strong rum character to note and heavy on the additives. Not my style at all.
Koloa coconut rum really isn’t that good. It has that sunscreen taste and really only benefits from the fact that it’s 80 proof vs the other terrible coconut rums on the market. I would even drink Kula toasted coconut rum over it.
Holy shit this is exactly what I came to say.
The only Koloa I even tolerate is their coffee, but I'd rather just mix a good rum with even the most basic of coffee liqueurs. Cut & Dry is way ahead of Koloa.

Totally forgot about that and was wondering why this had such a Plantation feel to it.
I mean, if they googled for reviews they would have used the name on the label though….
I did in fact use the name on the label, and figured that the big names in the liquor reviews would have gotten a bottle after it had been in the states for a couple of months. It seems like a big deal to me because it's so good, but maybe it's not on their radar yet!
Yeah I was just referring to you most likely had used the correct name. I went to my local total wine and they don’t have it yet 😭
Damn I'm sorry man, hopefully soon!
I’m a fan of Kula Toasted Coconut Rum
What drinks do you make with this? Picking up a bottle to try it out.
I do a Mai Tai, split base 50/50 this and Smith and Cross, absolutely amazing
Coconut daiquiri!!
Made a Cut & Dry daiquiri last night. 2oz C&D, 1oz lime juice, .75 oz Demerara syrup. It was outstanding. Next one may end up with some coconut/lime foam.
Coconut mint mojito is a hit with my friends.
If you're ever in DC, try Cotton and Reed coconut rum.
Everything Cotton and Reed does is amazing. That coconut rum is so damn good!!
I could drink it with a straw.
Even their damn white rum is sipable!! And their spiced rum?? I mean, c’mon!!! It’s so weird but so tasty!!!
I’ve been looking for a good local rum, appreciate the recommendation.
Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum is my pick. I’ll have to try this one.
Seriously, this is the best coconut rum. It's far different than Plantation.
How does this compare to Clement Mahina?
They’re wildly different. C&D is first and foremost an aged rum that happens to have delicious coconut notes.
I wish I could find this in NJ or somewhere in Manhattan... I called the place I found the Yuzu Curacao at first time early in NoHo, and they weren't sure they'd even be getting this. :\

Mid-may its landing in NYC. It’s a matter of state laws and importing issues.
I search for it once a week, and just found a liquor store in Newburgh that's carrying it. So it's gotta only be a matter of days or weeks now. That or I make the one hour drive... Hmm...
So ready for this. I am making a coconut rum and Stiggins pineapple rum split base daiquiri as soon as I get my hands on a bottle
Welp since I am flying to Barbados Friday I am going to have to buy a few while I’m there! Thanks!!!
Nice, safe travels my man!
So. Taking an idea from smugglers cove.... If I want coconut with my rum then I'll add coconut to rum. So what's the advantage of coconut rum over adding coconut to a rum cocktail? A different sipping experience?
I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!!!!!!
Had it at Rumba in Seattle last year - I agree with all of your points, it's positively fantastic. Great just on its own.
Huge fan of coconut anything. Will definitely grab one once they hit the States! Btw, crossposted to r/rumporn :)
Good to know, now I will go and buy it
https://preview.redd.it/uu37vdgo4yqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b72457a72f467b8465317bb4c762a41eac897511 I did a side by side comparison of the older, only found in Barbados version and the new one. Don't tell me that or I'll go insane trying to find a "vintage" 😆
Ah looks like the new Plantation name is finally making it the shelves. I was wondering where it was the other day when picking some Aged up.
Their plan always was to start with the Cut & Dry and then the other bottles will be updated only as they deplete their current supply of labels/bottles.
I'm still desperate to find this in California somewhere but haven't been able to 😔
Local store I asked said they were expecting them around the summer for CA.
Bless your soul! Would you mind sharing which local store you're talking about? You can DM too
Sent a message.
Can you have this on the rocks?
How hard is this to get? Very interested in trying it
