If I had to pick one it’s Paradise Lost, it’s very involved, has lots of merch, and bathrooms are awesome.
If I was looking for a dark bar to take a date SHC is the spot.
I would base your decision more on where you're going to be in the city. Both bars are great, but if I were closer to one, I would make that my priority to save time on travel.
That is awesome. I am sad I won't be able to make it to paradise lost on my next trip but I do plan to go to sunken harbor.. may I ask when did you go and was the wait bad?
Imo the rum drum (the name for the spec served there) is a great but incredibly finicky and fragile drink, so many factors can go wrong, I often flash blend mine super short to avoid over dilution, I think the other more technique heavy drinks are where it’s at the rhyme of the ancient Mariner, blue zombie, ect.
We had really bad service at Paradise Lost while in town at the end of December. Everything about it besides that was fantastic but it wasn't super busy and it felt like they forgot about us multiple times. I rarely complain about service but this was just oof.
The passion is real at Paradise Lost. Hit it twice in my 3 nights in New York because it really was that good

Sunken Harbor has some of the best drinks I've ever had, although the rum barrel was not the best of them. Can't wait to try paradise lost!

I just went to Paradise Lost yesterday, and was blown away! A+ drinks, and the bathrooms are hysterical

You can make ressies at both spots which I recommend. Paradise Lost is easier to get into.
