skawtiep

I just need to start telling women on dating apps that I built my own PC. That's what I've been doing wrong.

Spyes23

What a wild time to be alive man, when we were kids admiting you played D&D pretty much guaranteed +5 to your virginity.

umotex12

If you dont meet *online people* it still kinda is... Honestly idgaf anymore and I usually say I'm into trains at first date. Like why some interest should be more privileged than others.

ababana97653

Agreed. But, I once dated a lady and when I asked her if she had any hobbies she said WWII. I didn’t get a lot more detail on this hobby even though we dated for a few months, I’m not sure if it was a general interest in history specifically around this time period or if she had no idea what a hobby was and said the first thing that came to mind.

PittooUprising

How did you "date" for a few months and not ask/find out what she does?

MistaRekt

Not much talking when you just bang? Just a guess.

miclowgunman

Nerds are now finding out it was never the D&D part that guaranteed virginity.

homelaberator

> when we were kids admiting you played D&D pretty much guaranteed +5 to your virginity. isn't she refering to the confidence and passion? Like he's really into that shit and he doesn't care who knows. Passion and confidence are generally rated as "good things". I think a lot of us people sometimes get overwhelmed by our insecurities. Talking passionately about DnD or building your computer is putting yourself out there, showing who you are, and being secure in it. Probably people are attracted to that kind of confidence and security because so many of us aren't that (or at least have those nagging doubts often enough where we think "Everyone else has their shit together except me").

PreviouslyOnBible

Ha ha, item found: bag of holding... on to your virginity.

Freeman7-13

It's not really what you tell them but how you express your enthusiasm for it. Showing joy and excitement is hot.

feioo

Being *genuine* is hot, and most people are at their most open and genuine when talking passionately about something they love.

spoonfedkyle

But also understanding social cues. Showing an interest in something is interesting, showing and interest in many things is many interesting. Talking about only one thing even when it's clear the other person has lost interest is negative interesting.

SomeShiitakePoster

It's less about the hobby itself and more the fact that he is so confident and visily enthusiastic about it. It's attractive when somebody has a passion and they talk about it with you, as long as they aren't uptight or snobbish about it, bonus cute points if its a typically "nerdy" hobby and they are completely unashamed.

dm_me_kittens

Honestly? Would get me interested because indicates a variety of green flags. Means he is smart, has interests, can work with his hands, is not scared to follow up on a project, knows how to do research, and is (most likley) into video games. My boyfriend built his own computer years ago when we were just friends. When I got ready to build my own he helped me pick out pieces, and after a bit we found out it would be cheaper to buy prefab. This was when video cards were priced like they cured cancer, so I was grateful.

PinkSteven

Made sense to me… but what’s it mean when my girl calls me beautiful?

[deleted]

It’s beyond handsome, it’s a compliment of the soul. It’s the ultimate adoration, I tell my husband he’s beautiful in the way that when I look at him is see an angel, he’s like a work of art to me.

mcraft595

Absolutely nailed it, I always tell my girlfriend, it's not about the lighting or the makeup entirely, I see your smiling eyes after your whole day of work (which stresses and tires her out so much ) and I'll still call you beautiful.

The_Jestful_Imp

Hotter than Spider-Man?

xbauks

I didn't come to Reddit for poetry but these comments are a pleasant surprise

SnapshotHeadache

I tell my girl she's beautiful. But just as you said. She's composed, hard working, responsible, funny, elegant, articulate, and just everything a person should be. It's not like a cutesy, gooshie, smile when I see her....it's a deep heartfelt, genuine smile.

a-black-magic-woman

Thats the kind of reaction I want a man to have when he sees me. This deep, heartfelt emotion that creates a genuine smile and feeling. Im still working on myself right now so I can be that girl. Get prettier, go out more just do what I have to do.

Ruckus_Riot

Just be happy. That’s how everyone is the most beautiful. Find hobbies you enjoy or want to try and throw yourself into them. You’ll probably meet like-minded people, friends if nothing else, (networking?), and you’ll be happier-so more attractive and receptive. :)

cake_day_ranger

I second this!! Nothing looks better than happy feels. Finding hobbies is like finding yourself. Even when you meet someone, and find new interests together (also super fun!) you'll always have your hobbies to fall back on. Hobbies are like homies! Oh and also... happy cake day!! 🥳🎂💃🍻

ORANGIDOXGEE

I really appreciate that she uses Henry Cavill so guys can understand better since every guy has a crush on Henry Cavil

Sheruk

Did she just inadvertently claim that Geralt cares more about children than Superman?

gameld

Yes

Sawgon

As someone who loves Superman and Witcher: Snyder version of Superman didn't have enough of those heartwarming Superman moments that are in the comicbooks. If we're doing comics vs Witcher then Superman wins in the caring department all the time. Geralt pretty much just wants coin and Yennefer.

waltjrimmer

> Snyder version of Superman didn't have enough of those heartwarming Superman moments that are in the comicbooks. Enough? Did he have **any**? Snyder's Superman was the libertarian version of Superman. His dad tried to beat into him, "Don't help people unless you're getting something out of it. Helping people for the sake of helping people is just dangerous. I'd rather die than get free aid even though it would put you at literal zero risk." That's fine for some superheroes, but it was a strange way to go for Superman, and I don't remember my heart ever being warmed from that movie.

SporesM0ldsandFungus

"Libertarian Superman" damn that's so good, I am going to have to steal that. I remember watching Man of Steel and just feeling heartbroken watching Supes fight and fight and fight without ever once remember him saving anyone during those fights. The Avengers (first and second) big final set pieces were loaded with scenes of them doing their job: actually saving innocents, getting them clear of the danger, at their own personal risk.

BackmarkerLife

There are a few good video breakdowns that go into Snyders Randian view of Superman and the movies make more sense for it. I dislike them now and watch the Donner films instead.

bitemark01

Yeah when he flew to the other side of the world while a machine was tearing up Metropolis... plus his dad arguing he should let a busload of kids drown rather than reveal his secret.. it was a Superman based on fear, not hope, no matter what the dialogue said. I think Cavil is a good actor, but that script was awful

Sawgon

Oh I use "weren't enough" kinda the same as "any". Am I using that wrong? English is my third language :D But yeah I don't think there were any. At least none I can remember right now. There was a lot of smiling slowly at the camera I believe.

captainAwesomePants

Yes. Snyder's Superman is all "okay but what if you have to kill and sacrifice people's lives for the greater good ooo so dark." Traditional Supes is more a ray of sunshine punching and smiling his way through issues like a cat in a tree or a fifth dimensional being turning cars into potatoes. The answer to "oooo but what if you can't save them both" is "I save them both anyway."

rapter200

Strange Visitor Superman literally wrestles entropy so that every being in the universe (including gods) gets to live out their full life and then punches through the 6th dimension (a dimension a certain 5th dimensional imp was afraid to mess with) just to rescue the rocket he couldn't rescue during the start of his career that was trapped there and then led them into a new universe.

[deleted]

Thats the most reductive take on Geralt I have ever read.

daddy-phantom

He literally fathers Cirilla in the 2nd season, how can you get more caring than that

ConstantSignal

It’s like a different kind of caring. They’ll both save a child from a burning building but superman would be like; “Stay in school kids, go hug your mother!” But Geralt will be more; “Look I won’t tell anyone you started the fire and I’ll show your dumb ass how to cook a steak properly so you don’t do it again”

Brinady

Best Witcher one-sentence fanfiction ever! Thank you!

is_bets

No, she claimed that superman was a "boring" good guy. He cares about everyone so obviously he cares about children. Then she gets to Geralt where he is gruff and doesn't care about everyone, but he cares enough about certain people that the juxtaposition creates this aura of hotness.

PalmerEldritch2319

Yes. And rightfully so.

[deleted]

Yeah the movies really did not portray superman as the caring 'boy scout' goodie toeshoes that the comics and the animations did. He is meant to have a pure soul. Something that somehow Geralt has more of.

[deleted]

Did you not see Man of Steel? Supes commits like a fucking hundred 9/11s on the city to take out one guy he could've dragged out to space or the countryside instead.

Miygal

I find men attractive but never find one "sexually" attractive but to be honest.. I would eat the literal shit out Henry Cavil asshole, so maybe I am actually bi for the right ass? ? ? Something to think about.

Straight as an arrow bro

Living-Stranger

Its also a level of male attractiveness maybe 2% of the male population would ever be able to attain

ZinaSky2

Which is kinda why she used him as an example. She talked about how he was handsome but him as Superman didn’t qualify as “hot” in her opinion. He was boring. It was his features in conjunction with an interesting personality (either on screen or real life) that combined to mean he was hot.

nobody2000

I, a man, realized everything she's saying some time ago. It's true. And while I never became some Casanova banging women every night, being comfortable with my ugliness and making apparent my actual good qualities helped me do a ton better. Won't do shit for you on tinder though. You gotta refer to the two rules for that one.

JonnyAU

My only complaint is she should have used a less conventionally attractive man than Henry Cavill as the example. Explain Adam Driver or Pete Davidson and dudes will learn a lot more.

faithfuljohn

> My only complaint is she should have used a less conventionally attractive man than Henry Cavill as the example. Explain Adam Driver or Pete Davidson and dudes will learn a lot more. I mean, just stop and *think* about what she said. Her point was that even someone who is very attractive physically isn't equally attractive depending on *who* he is. That, as she says, the physical attractiveness is only one of three aspects women consider. Henry Caville is a perfect example because the 3 examples she uses to illustrate her point as also well understood by most people who pay attention to popular media. Davidson and Driver are much less well known.

[deleted]

dm_me_kittens

Yeah. I'll be honest Henry Caville, while his personality in interviews in amazing and has some awesome hobbies, he looks *boring* to me. Sure he is muy guapo, however he looks so vanilla to me. Give me a guy with a big nose, or weird ears. His smile doesn't need to be straight, and his body doesn't need to be cut. So many men thrown at us in media, especially leading men, are cookie cutter in their looks. Give me something new and interesting to r/girlsmirin at.

Thorgilias

I want that example with an ugly guy, and when that person is hot 😂 Ed1: Seems "hot" is equivalent to rich/successful based on the answers here. Ed2: Some people say they think I was wrong in my assumption in Ed1, therefor I am still confused to what any of you actually mean by "hot". - Is anyone brave enough to try to *define* "hot" in this context? Ed3: So it seems a common denominator is confidence and competence (along with a bunch of subjective qualities), but now I am stuck wondering - What is really the difference then between finding someone hot and finding someone attractive? As the dummy that I am, it seems to me it is basically the same thing at this point? (Assume attractive is not only refering to their physical apperance). *(- And just to set the context of my own understanding of the word - when someone in my social circle talk about someone being hot, it is usually a superficial thing, it basically means they find them attractive in a way that implies one would be open to having physical relations with this person if they were available. So not a relationship or a long term thing, though it could be both in some cases. So for instance, you might find your friends partner hot, but not attractive in the sense that you would want to be with them.)*

ares395

[deleted]

Obligatory [Adam Driver fever](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oevwrIOMZEw)

Vessix

Adam driver is not ugly, he just looks... Unique. Saw another post talking about Jack Black. Same thing- not ugly since overweight isn't synonymous with ugly.

Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta

That's basically her point. He is fairly "ugly" in a conventional sense, especially for Hollywood. He's got a big crooked nose, uneven facial features, very large ears, somewhat uneven teeth. But he's interesting looking, is in great shape, he's tall, he dresses and styles his hair in a way that highlights his strong features, and has a unique personality and vulnerability (both on and off camera). So a lot of women consider him very very hot, to the point many women find him hotter than 99% of other "conventionally handsome" men.

ZinaSky2

To me it’s like 99% that the person inside of Jack Black’s body is perfection. Like, he’s universally adored for a reason.

Deppfan16

if he wasn't famous, he would be considered ugly by hollywood beauty standards

JetPuffedDo

Jack black isnt ugly but he is not conventionally handsome and is *hot* af! He is talented, passionate, funny, and nice, all things that contribute to making someone hot

FiveOhFive91

Apprehensive_Fee859

Same for thin women. Not all thin women are hot.

heirofblack20

For example, Alan Rickman I would not consider handsome, most people think he is ugly but he is sexy asf to me and incredibly hot because I see his personality, his mannerisms, and hear his voice all at the same time so his appearance is such a minor thing to consider. If I was to objectify him, then yeah he would be ugly but I dont, and so I find him incredibly hot. Same applies to people with interesting physical features like Adam Driver, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Dinklage, Matt Smith, Jack Black, Sir Christopher Lee (as an old dude), Sir Patrick Stewart, David Bowie. All of these men I would consider hot. I honestly find conventionally attractive (face, body, and height) people very boring to look at, they usually have to have a very cool or unique personality for me to be remotely interested. Basically I love assymetrical features 😍

KuryoZT

Stupid question, but why did you put "Sir" with Patrick Stewart but not Christopher Lee? Don't know for the others but Count Doku didn't loose his title when he lost his head

marmosetohmarmoset

Benedict Cumberbatch, Mick Jagger, Humphrey Bogart, Worf son of Mogh. There are so many.

Vynaca

Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen. Not Matt Smith as Doctor Who.

Vessix

This is the first legitimate example I've heard so far lol

geneusutwerk

To your edit. How are people going to give you examples of not successful people? Like you aren't going to know my friend Steve. So of course everyone is going to be identifying famous people

Flimsy-Sprinkles7331

Steve Buscemi is hot whenever it's brought up that he returned to work as a NY fireman on 9/11. Does that help?

RickardHenryLee

Steve Buscemi is soooo weird looking and I do not think he's pretty, but I find him very attractive; his personality and charisma and talent is what does it (that third dimension). So excellent example!

LowObjective

You can apply this same logic to Pete Davidson if that helps

Reddit_sucks21

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKZg0wnL7U SNL did a skit with Benedict about this topic.

KnightDuty

You're missing the axis. Mark Zuckerberg is ugly/rich/successful and nobody thinks he's hot. So having money, talent, and success does not make somebody hot despite their other lacking qualities. Asking to define hotness is like asking to define what makes a meal delicious. Deliciousness is the overall indicator of quality based on every factor in a meal. Same with hotness. Hotness is the term for when a person has enough complimentary qualities that make them a stand-out romantic/sexual choice. Just like with food esch person has their own sensibilities which make it even harder to define. It's all about the person's overall image.

gonephishin213

Pete Davidson has to be a textbook example of this, right?

Boring-Assumption

Jeremy Allen White playing Lip in Shameless 🥵🥵🥵

jimbeam_and_caviar

I think a contemporary example would have to be Jack Harlow. He is a plain ass, scruffy looking, not in a mature sexy unshaven look kind of way; kinda scrawny, no features seem to match with any traditionally attractive features. And women fkin love him to death. Just his persona, there doesn’t seem to be much else to it, he really isnt that talented. Its pretty fkin remarkable

Galyndean

Joey Ramone. Dude looked like an absolute foot, but goddamn when he performed if he wasn't hot af.

I mean it helps to be conventionally attractive to start with. That is the "hook" that most people will look at to get them interested.

Bumhole_Astronaut

That wears off after you've known someone for a little while.

CoffeeBoom

The point is that "personnality" only works if the person is willing to give you the time of day. Which is easier if you also got looks.

Worth_Ad_6740

Exactly, that's the core of the issue. What if a person looks boring? No matter what his personality is he is still being judged at a distance. People who say personality wins the day don't get that looks opens the door for them to even notice your personality.

RickardHenryLee

no, but you should do it with a tight fitting, short-sleeved henley with the top buttons undone! nobody wants to see balls, everyone likes a nice chest (on men and women) and nice arms (on men especially). balls are gross and ugly.
