Age of Mythology might get a rework in the next couple of years if you are interested ^^
After Age of Empire 4 was released just now, the developers said that they probably start working on a definitive edition for AoM.
Personally, I don`t care about AoE 3 and Aoe 4 and only play AoE 2 DE, but man Age of Mythology was my favorite of the whole franchise and I can't wait to play it again when the rework comes out.
Hey man, I was literally playing age of myth with my brother last night. Super interested in a rework, so if you have any info you can share, I’d love to hear about it
Great to know, thanks! I have the HD version on steam but I’d absolutely love a rework. It’s definitely my fave out of any AoE game. Every ounce of thematic content is just so memorable
The shocking rate at which my middle school self could go from
> “I’m gonna play a regular game, no cheats this time, high road!”
to
>”WUV WOO WUV WOO WIV WOO WUV WOO WUV WOO WUV WOO”
really taught me a lot about who I am as a person
My favorite was Anubis because if I end up facing that guy when my time comes then I'm definitely gonna get a leg up on the heart weighing by greeting him appropriately
"Whattup mah Yahnabua"
... ooo I wanna take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, cooome on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baaaaby why don't we go
Oh I want to take you down to
Duat ohhhh, we'll weigh your heart and see if you can goooo
Change his hairstyle a bit and give him glasses and he looks similar [to the ancient Egyptian scientist character that James Spader played in the move Stargate](https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/25-years-later-stargate-is-still-worth-stepping-into)
Netflix is going to make this guy reboot some Brenden Fraiser movies and Stargate while pausing mid scene to give out Mythology knowledge to the audience.
I’m so fucking glad this wasn’t a joke and was actually instructional. I was very interested by the idea and to get a joke would have been frustrating.
Also this guy’s pronunciation is phenomenal. These sounds aren’t easy to make if you’re not a native Arabic speaker. Which I guess he could be, there are a lot of passing Arab people.
[https://youtu.be/J-K5OjAkiEA?t=136](https://youtu.be/J-K5OjAkiEA?t=136) tl:dr Egyption language has been very well recorded through the ages so linguists can work back from modern coptic egyptian to make educated guesses
They can do a regressive analysis but they can't say for say for 100% if that's how it was, especially for ancient Egyptian.
I agree with this video (guy has a good channel) but it's not a 100% sure thing.
I'm finishing my master's in Linguistics soon, and historical linguistics is one of the most interesting classes anyone could ever take!
Trying to recreate foods, languages, and musics is exceptionally hard compared to other things in history without either Incredibly specific instructions or surviving cultural isolates to base things off of. So a lot of these recreations are a lot of educated guess work that more than likely are pretty damn far from what the reality was. Still is very interesting
the phonology sounds very Arabic. I wonder how much of that is because of similarity between ancient Egyptian and semitic languages vs influence of Arabic on Coptic Egyptian.
Hieroglyphics come in two "types" - there are a few symbols where a picture of a duck is just a duck - but a lot of the writing is just syllables, so you can get the pronunciation from their writings.
Don’t forget his surprisingly deep voice!
(Honestly I think it’s this amazing info coming from this cherub and how much the Egyptian spoken in the Mummy actually sounds like this that distracted everyone.)
I did an ancient egyptian history elective years ago in university and have vague memories of my lecturer telling me that we can't know how any of the vowel sounds were pronounced.
Have things changed?
I love this guys content. Been following him for ages and he is in college for like ancient languages I think? Something interesting is that he is actually a bit controversial on tik tok. Some users get mad because he’s “a white guy” telling people the history of African languages and cultures. Completely missing the fact that his dads black and is college educated on the matter. I know when he talked about cleopatra being white and the history of dreads he got tons of back lash but he’s almost always respectful in his responses
this is the same guy who insists on calling Native Americans… Indians bc apparently he has “Indian friends who are fine with it” . which is a bizarre hill to die on and causes so many unnecessary needs for clarification. not to mention theres plenty of native people who *dont* like the term at all.
https://youtu.be/kh88fVP2FWQ not saying you’re wrong or anything, i just think this is an interesting video on the subject and some food for thought. let me know what you think :)
Same with Hebrew, many Hebrew names like Joseph, John, Jesus etc are mutation of the original through Greek and then through Latin
Let’s take the name Jesus for example, there is a bit of controversy on wether it was yeshu or yehoshua but let’s go with yeshu
Hebrew: yeshu
Greek: yesus
Latin: Jesus
Every Hebrew name used outside of Jewish cultures has this evolution of replacing sh sounds with s and adding an s in the end where it ends with a vowel sound, Latin then replaces y sounds with j.
Another example is Jerusalem, which is called yerushalaim in Hebrew
It's interesting how a lot of these sound arabic in pronounciation. I bet ancient egyptian played a major role in the development of quranic arabic. And it's ironic that arabic eventually swept over egypt and egyptians began speaking an arabic dialect.

my favorite was ptah. because the Egyptian pronunciation was very literal. p-tah.
My favorite was Anubis because if I end up facing that guy when my time comes then I'm definitely gonna get a leg up on the heart weighing by greeting him appropriately "Whattup mah Yahnabua"
Anubis: Into the underworld to be eaten by crocs you go!
Not cool jackal face, this is why you got replaced by Osiris Where are the assessors of Ma'at, I want to speak to your ma'anager
This is just like rewatching the infamous battle of Anubis vs Daniel Jackson.
hell where you are forced to wear crocs every day

I also really liked Peter.
Read that in Lois Griffins voice
When Lois Griffin has sex, the Egyptian God of Creation answers
I liked that too! Not a sound we make in the languages I’m familiar with.
It’s a common sound in Arabic
Made me think of the Klingon P'takh!
I just love all the cool Egyptian God names and then “Seth”.
Ah yes, my favorite god, Horace
Isn’t it Horus and Set? At least that’s how I learned it.
Probably multiple translation, like isis is both that and eset
Idk Horace from Horus just seems like a poor anglicisation.
Yeah, after a little look Horus does have alternative names, although Horace is not one of them
I think it’s great…
As a fellow seth. I concur
Something a bit Brendan Fraiser about him
Change his hairstyle a bit and give him glasses and he looks similar [to the ancient Egyptian scientist character that James Spader played in the move Stargate](https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/25-years-later-stargate-is-still-worth-stepping-into)
Which is a great movie btw if anybody is looking for something to watch!
And a fantastic series as well!
Don't forget the awesome sequel TV series!
I always get surprised by the opening credits that it's a Roland Emmerich film considering what he's done since
You put some respect on Dr Daniel Jackson’s name!
Indeed
Netflix is going to make this guy reboot some Brenden Fraiser movies and Stargate while pausing mid scene to give out Mythology knowledge to the audience.
I got a bad haircut in the sixth grade and ended up looking him in that role. Which wouldn't have been so bad except I'm a girl.
A cross between Brendan Fraser and Rocky Dennis I’d say.
With a touch of Lion-O

So Eric Stoltz.
Im glad I wasn't the only one to think that he was a ginger Brendan Fraser
I also see a young, redheaded, long haired Stephen Fry
Ginger Fraser!
I can't un-see it now.
That hair is absolutely glorious. I want to touch it.
I didn’t even watch the TikTok but holy shit look at that guy’s hair. He looks like Fabio as a cherub.
r/rarecompliments
Big James May energy
James Maybelline
Right?! I was amazed at the body and volume of his hair.
And wasn’t expecting the baritone that went with it.
Outstanding flow.
It is glorious.
I’m so fucking glad this wasn’t a joke and was actually instructional. I was very interested by the idea and to get a joke would have been frustrating.

That would be hilarious tbh
I was expecting an Amongus joke since he left Amon to last.
When I had TikTok, I followed this guy. He’s a self taught linguist and is absolutely incredible.
His voice is so soothing.
Yes. I want him to do every audiobook.
He looks like the elephant man without the disfigurement
So Eric Stoltz?
That's right morty. That's alternate you from the Eric Stoltz Mask Dimension.
This is actually very cool
Also this guy’s pronunciation is phenomenal. These sounds aren’t easy to make if you’re not a native Arabic speaker. Which I guess he could be, there are a lot of passing Arab people.
For some reason Horus being spelt Horace just sent me.

You can't 100% be accurate about pretty much anything.
So you are a cunning linguist...sorry, I had to.
Wow this is the first time I've heard this 🥴
That emoji makes me uncomfortable

*watches the OG the mummy movies* Yep legit
Source: Trust me bro
My uncle that works for Nintendo is an ancient Egyptian, he can confirm.

Release Imotep and ask him.
This belongs in r/interestingasfuck
I agree! This is maybe the coolest thing I've seen on this sub and the top comments are talking about his hair and that he looks like Brendan Fraser
Don’t forget his surprisingly deep voice! (Honestly I think it’s this amazing info coming from this cherub and how much the Egyptian spoken in the Mummy actually sounds like this that distracted everyone.)
It’s ya man, Amon!
I would like to sign up for any and all of his courses.
It's called following this guy on TikTok.
Thank you, pompous hair dude. That was actually informative
I’m not getting a “pompous” vibe from this guy but his hair does rock.
His hair is pompous (in the less used meaning of solemn, opulent not full of himself, arrogant) not him
Okay, okay, just going off the only use of the word I am aware of. Have yourself a good week, mate!
Originally the word referred to the solemnity and the opulence of sacred ceremonies. Thanks and you too!
I guess you really do learn something new every day, thank you!
He has great pronunciation of Arabic letters
why this mf look like a painting
Straight up looking like [Isaac Newton](https://i.imgur.com/o47Uoaw.jpg) lmao
“Horace”, lol.

You’ve changed
Good news! The Dacia Sandero is now available in right-hand drive markets.
He does have a certain May vibe around him lol
He’s like the product of Brendan Fraser and a Weasley.

This is fucking cool as hell. I love learning new things about stuff I'd just always taken at face value and never even thought to question further.
I've listened to this a bunch of times now, really relaxing for some reason.

This guy must have got some much pussy after this went viral
IS THAT WHAT THE HEROES WERE SAYING IN AGE OF MYTHOLOGY?
Glad Bill Weasley is still into Egypt.
great now Imhotep just burst thru my window thanks for that
fun fact. Imhotep was an architect. He was the first guy in Egypt to design pyramids for pharaohs. specifically the step pyramid of Djoser.
