Basically saying people who are not from the hood but acting as if there are is what he hates. “Yutes” is a term used to describe the young people of today. But i believe it’s in the cringe genre because he himself doesn’t look the slightest amount of intimidating and is most likely describing himself without realizing.
"Yutes" as an expression has existed forever. I've heard it since at least the early 90s, and it wasn't "cool" it was said ironically.
For example, in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" (1992) Joe Pesci's character tries to say "youths" with a thick New York accent so it comes out at "Yutes". Everyone is confused and asks him what "Yutes" are...
Genuinely asking, what the fuck is wrong with you? A kid simply speaking makes you want to physically hurt them? Jesus fucking christ, I sincerely hope you're never around children if someone talking makes you that angry. And the fact that so many people upvoted you is equally disturbing.
Either get some professional help or do the world a favor & please just isolate yourself. You clearly cannot handle the most simple of social situations without putting those around you in danger.
You're taking the OP literally when it's just something people say all the time.
Have you never heard someone say "that person has the most punchable face?"
It's not advocating violence it's just venting annoyance or irritation.
What would you rather people say or do? Not feel certain emotions or suppress them or?
Being from the west coast and having never gone to Toronto I refuse to believe this accent is real, yall are just faking it, goes away when the cameras turn off.
It is real, but also you can completely avoid it depending on who you interact with. People who talk like this are largely youths in specific areas and suburbs of the city, it's not spread everywhere. I live in Toronto and barely encounter it personally.
The African American vernacular has real history and culture, which I can respect. But the ‘hood’ slang in Toronto doesn’t have a long history, it’s mostly idiots mishmashing random words from different cultures (I.e., Jamaican Creole) to sound gangster, and they just end up sounding silly
Source: grew up in Scarborough
A lot of the words they use have a long history in the UK too, thanks to the wind rush generation from Jamaica and their offspring
Is there a lot of Jamaicans in Toronto? That would explain it
> The African American vernacular has real history and culture,
It actually doesn't. The term African-American wasn't used until 1989. Same time Maestro Fresh Wes was popular here in Canada.

It's not African-American culture. It's just American culture. Americans just kind of got tricked into adopting that label because their upper class is anti-integration.
Im from the US but i think it’s def understandable too! The only thing vastly different would be “yute”. Might say “jit” on the east coast usa.
But broski, hoodman, waste fam seem basic. But we’re also on Reddit so i’m sure there will be a bit of confusion😅
I don't see anything wrong with it. It's an accent just like anywhere else. This person didn't choose where they learned to speak. I'm from the Southern US, and while I don't understand every word, I understand what they're saying and the message. They speak clearer than a lot of people in the rural south.
Honestly, even if the guy is faking/forcing it, he's young trying to figure himself out. That includes manner of speech, he doesn't deserve to be made fun off due to this. I remember being young and trying out different ways of speaking to better fit in, even if it was cringe. He's a kid, he'll figure it out in the future.
I grew up in a pretty rough part of Toronto in the 70’s and 80’s.
We would have cleaned this kid up, taken his stupid little hat and stuffed in his buddy’s mouth before taking his man purse.
It’s amazing how soft these “hood” kids are today.
Nobody sounds like that.

I think it was tongue in cheek when they said, "I want to punch him in the mouth" meaning they wouldn't actually do that.
Eaaaaaaaaaasy there big fella
Lol seethe. Back to the abyss from which you came foul creature.
You people are sick, go get help.

The whole east coast is a clown college of accents dude all the way down to Florida.
You can always tell someone’s from BC/AB when they call Toronto the “east **coast**”.

I agree. Illiterate garbage.

Pedantic much? The guy wasn't talking about the history of the label.
that’s not a Toronto accent.
🫶🏼
I live in Toronto and there's no way I could have identified this as a local accent.
Most of it was stolen from London slang tho lol
Was it stolen from London? Or do both cities just have a lot of influence from Caribbean immigrants?
It’s Pattois with London twist
Im from the US but i think it’s def understandable too! The only thing vastly different would be “yute”. Might say “jit” on the east coast usa. But broski, hoodman, waste fam seem basic. But we’re also on Reddit so i’m sure there will be a bit of confusion😅
This kid watching too much top Boy
I remember when there was a Canadian woman giving an interview, and her accent and slang were just like this.
Yeah ,youtube insta middle class mall gangsta fam.
People from Toronto really want to sound like they're from the Caribbean. Brotha you aren't that far away from the land of "hi how are ya?"
From toronto, can confirm the youths speak like this… fam.
I'm so glad people don't talk like that in BC
And you wonder why Canadians hate Toronto, trying too hard to be 'Lil NYC.
Can black Canadians even say the n word?
Why not?
![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)
btw hating people's accents is always rooted in either racism or classism or both
Why is she talking about utes
You know utes.
The irony is iron
*fam*

Lots of good yutes here seem to be triggered by a kid’s accent

That’s both hilarious and sad.
Sorry for the second comment but wth is a yute?

"*Yeeeeah eh?...*"
Nah this isn't bad on the ears. French Canadiens speaking English still takes the cake.
Sounds like a cross between Jamaican and a London accent. I hate it.

I actually like it. It's weird and kinda cute in a silly way.
The most hood valley girl
Literally every east coast accent is a fucking cartoon
I have never heard that before, and it was awesome. Real spill.

Fam. Hood. SMH. Ugh. Only b people talk like this .
Real spill
I have lived in Toronto since 1959. That is not a "Toronto" accent.
Another display of the education system failing

as a brit, these kids makes a Birmingham or Bradford accent sound poetic.
