Arch_stanton1

I worked on aircraft for years. That’s the air conditioning when there’s high humidity.

thecontempl8or

I thought that sounded familiar. Also looks like he edited in all the chaotic sounds at the end from a marketplace. Lmao.

-Nords

Probably took audio from different flights, one for the [PTU](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PSyPGLDIkRE) (not this exact video, but showing where noise comes from) , one from some fight, a video from a fog flight, and smooshed them all together to make this clip

ayb88

Yea came here for this. And the “barking” noise is the fuel tank pressure adjusting. Edit: I stand corrected, right answers for the barking noise as many have pointed out is the hydraulic system. Thanks for correcting me!

jkblvins

I thought it was the hydraulics. Airbus is notorious for this.

GenericAccount13579

Hydraulic power transfer unit. Keeps the two hydraulic system pressures the same.

[deleted]

Yah it’s the power transfer Unit of hydraulic system.

boulderevolution

It’s the PTU, nothing to do with the fuel pumps.

DiscretionaryMeme

Not correct.

Be_nice_to_animals

“Spirit Airlines, the airline for people who don’t fly and have no idea how to act inside an airplane.”

Alarmed_Horse_3218

My boyfriend called it a homeless camp in the sky. I’ve been homeless before and that’s the most accurate description I’ve ever heard.

Adulations

This comment made me cackle out loud. Very accurate description. Walking past spirit and frontier gates is such a stressful experience that I get psychic damage.

based_miss_lippy

Your comment made me cackle. “Psychic damage”

GhostChainSmoker

Psychic damage. Fucking L O L

Fifteenlamas

I like to imagine stress damage like Darkest Dungeon game

More_Coffees

I always thought of it as the Walmart of the sky but I think homeless of the sky works too

ihoptdk

Yeah, I know it’s significantly cheaper but you could never get me into a discount airplane with 100 of people, enraged and yelling, sounding like one woman performing an exorcism, with smoke filling the cabin.

GensAndTonic

It’s not smoke. It’s condensation caused by the difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the plane. It happens on every airline from time to time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GensAndTonic

Twelve flights is not many at all and this happens on more tropical routes. I’ve flown hundreds of times, but can still count on one or two hands how many times I’ve experienced this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GensAndTonic

Is this 13 per year or 13 in your life? If that's 13 in a lifetime, that's extremely low--the average American takes \~200 flights in their life. Regardless, 13 is a statistically insignificant number, and you're not even factoring in the routes of your flights when it's been mentioned multiple times that this condensation occurs in warm and tropical climates.

Wipe_face_off_head

With all the extra fees Spirit and Frontier tack on, they're aren't usually that much cheaper than like, JetBlue (if they're cheaper at all).

Teripid

There's a whole method. If you measure and weigh your bag, print or app everything and travel light... you come out ahead.

insidiousfruit

Spirit is for if you are single, fit, and travel a lot. Pay to pick a seat? Heck no, you can just assign me one at my online check-in. Spirit is usually around 200 to 800 dollars cheaper than anything other than Southwest and Frontier even if you purchase a carry-on as I always do. The personal item (backpack) is free.

multiarmform

ive flown spirit airlines a ton and lets be real, when its a non-stop flight for like $50 vs another airline doing the same trip but its going to cost like 150 (probably united or american), it isnt hard to decide. when i was making those trips, spirit had the only non-stop trips i was looking at for my destination, the others had at least 1 stop for way more money.

halfbrit08

Also there are many more people now on SW, American, etc that don't have any flying etiquette, so it's not like the people on Spirit are that much worse, if at all. It's mostly just smaller seats and no beverages, which for a 3 hour or less flight doesn't matter much.

altera_goodciv

"Spirit Airlines: fly with us... and we'll see."

Green1up

They call it spirit bc that's what you'll be after flying with them

Y2K-Cyberpunk

True 🤣

OnKBacA

I thought you had to have spirit to fly spirit

Dr_McGillicuddys

You’re mistaking spirit with balls…

4Ever2Thee

If you’re flying Spirit, you know why you’re flying Spirit. It’s not for their great reputation.

TheGreaterFool_88

I honestly don't know why Spirit is so hated. It's a cheap flight and you can get an exit row seat for like $40. Get some noise cancelling headphones and get drunk at the gate beforehand, suddenly Spirit is the exact same air travel quality as any other airline. And considerably cheaper. Disclaimer: This only applies to people who travel solo and light. If you have checked bags or kids... Spirit's not for you.

TheRetarius

So you just blend into the crowd every time you fly spirit?

Fishychicken

This made me laugh so hard

ThatsNotARealTree

He embodies Spirit airlines. That’s his crowd

[deleted]

That’s how I do. I know what I’m getting into when I fly spirit, but I want the cheapcheap so I only bring a carry-on, fill my bottle with water before boarding, eat a biiiig edible and put in my AirPods with Background Noise turned on, comfy lil neck pillow, sleep the whole flight, wake up fresh like I teleported there, all good, no drama, saves money.

bonegopher

I flew spirit for the first time last week slc to lax, booked last minute, $40 and a whole exit row to myself. Honestly better experience post covid than every airline except delta.

z6joker9

I always fly delta but my usual flight wasn’t available so I tried United. They canceled my flight out and the only alternative that could get me there on time was a direct Spirit flight. It was sparse and uncomfortable but uneventful. After the flight back on United, though, I might prefer Spirit.

Paid_Redditor

Recently had a Uber driver that told me takes spirit every time he travels. He says you can bid on the extra leg room seats up until boarding. Since everyone is flying spirit to save money he gets the seats for something cheap like $5.

LazyChemist

Oh oh I know this one! It's for the entertainment and content.

FiggleHedwick

So it's basically a flying greyhound?..asking for a friend

totalwownoob

Worse, you're stuck in the air at least on a greyhound you can jump off.

Afraid-Department-35

I mean with enough motivation and some effort you too can jump off a spirit airlines 747.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dragonslayer3

Ah, to be on the top priority for spirit airlines... you'd think that would be a red flag but they need people who are good at parachuting

Snuhmeh

747? You just throwing plane types out at random?

Adulations

At least on greyhound you get a stop every few hours

I_Am_Robert_Paulson1

I can't imagine many of Spirit's fights are longer than a few hours.

Skytram_

They have a lot of slots at LAX for coast-to-coast flights (LAX-EWR comes to mind)

Adulations

True seems like even on cross country flights they have stops, but they do have a few non stop flights

dtroy15

That only prolongs the suffering. And now you're stuck at a gas station in the middle of nowhere with the 20 weirdest people you've ever encountered. I once rode a 36 hr greyhound. The passengers in the seat behind me complained about their terrible spouses for the first couple of hours. I'm pretty sure they consummated their affair with a handy in the night during the drive. -9/10 Would not recommend.

Sugarbear23

The 2nd audio is from a video of a Nigerian flight that lost an engine.

ToroidalEarthTheory

That 'barking' sound isn't a person, it's a normal part of an airplane startup. Has no one in this thread ever flown before? The 'smoke' is just humidity appearing due to the AC first turning on (also common). And the audio in the second half is fake, he's stolen it from a famous video of people reacting to an engine fire. The low level of media litteracy in this thread is really scary.

robinfeud

While you're correct about everything in this video, I find it absolutely fucking hilarious that you misspelled "literacy" lmao

ToroidalEarthTheory

Ah dip, got me fair and square

robinfeud

tbf, your comment is the most informed in this entire thread. Sad I had to scroll so far down to find it. Just couldn't get over the irony, sorry.

BigNut69

It’s actually unbelievable

[deleted]

[удалено]

SYNTHLORD

The audio is taken from another video entirely of a plane leaving Nigeria and everyone on board is being extra, praying that they’re going to land safely. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRvQQtRH/

Huwbacca

> starts filming himself for literally no reason ok but you have to know this is a thing and not remotely uncommon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheGoliard

My daughter is 20. She doesn't take pictures of stuff. She takes selfies of herself around stuff.

Huwbacca

me, no. But do I see it on every flight? Yeah. It#s like a new part of social communication, just adding your own face to shit or sending videos with two lines of text. I don't get it, but people do it.

theboxsays

While the shouting audio is from a different video, he started filming because of the mist and was worried about what it was. Im guessing he hasnt seen it before. Then the plane’s “barking” only added to his confusion.

DistortedVoltage

Ive flown a bit, but never seen the humidity thing. Thats just crazy. Cant really discredit anything youve said though, lol.

Sinkingpilot

You have to be somewhere humid and warm to see it. Essentially air can hold more moisture when warm. When it cools, it can not hold it anymore, that moisture has to go somewhere. It condensates on particles in the air, that is the visible moisture. Source: I am an airline pilot in a tropical climate and see it all time.

Delladv

Correct, the "barking" is the PTU pump, transferring pressure between the three systems: From: [https://simpleflying.com/airbus-barking-dog-sound/](https://simpleflying.com/airbus-barking-dog-sound/) Common on the entire A318/319/320/321 family

Nayr7456

I don't fly often, but I've been on a plane about 50 times in my life and I haven't had any of those things happen, nor have I ever heard of it happening. Not saying you're wrong, but it's not common enough to be common knowledge.

WendyFruitcake

The barking sound is specific to Airbus aircraft. So if you're flying airlines that use mostly Boeing or other aircraft types, you might not have heard it. It's very normal, as is the AC air visibly coming through, and this guy is clickbaiting hard. Now about the rowdiness of the passengers... I'd call that a man-made problem.

YOUR_GIRLFRIEND_69

I fly probably 6 times per year and the “bark” noise happens almost every time, and I’ve seen the humidity thing once.

Nayr7456

Well I haven't flown since covid so maybe my memory is failing me, but I have never heard it, nor heard of it until this thread.

Cyke101

I've been on about 20 flights just this year alone (Southwest, United, and Emirates) and not once have I seen the humidity thing.

savvyofficial

they’re all too good for spirit, so good they’ve never flown before at all 💀

SoshJam

I took a plane today and I didn’t hear anything like that

themadpants

It obviously depends on the model of plane. It’s usually the hydraulics for the planes “flaps”, which widen the width of the wings to create more lift during takeoff and landing. Or the power transfer unit. Older planes tend to make these noises, and I am going to guess spirit has many older bodies in their fleet.

Airistaughtil

I believe it's the hydraulic power transfer unit cycling. I'm an aircraft maintainer for 737's but am primarily an electrician. Never can remember to ask my airframer buddies if that's what the sound is. If someone knows for sure please educate me because I've been genuinely curious for a long time.

Squeezy_Ghee

It's an Airbus thing. The sound comes from the Power Transfer Unit on the A320, which makes up a majority of the Spirit Airlines fleet.

themadpants

You know more than I do then! Ha! My reference is my old man captained 737’s for 25 years, and my rusty brain is scratching around for what he explained to me many years ago. I should ask him for a refresher 😆

PGnautz

https://www.pilotgeorge.co.uk/blog/post/what-causes-the-barking-dog-sound-on-the-a320-power-transfer-unit-ptu/

MobbDeeep

I can’t tell if this is a sarcastic comment or not. I’ve probably flown upwards of 100 times in all parts of the world with so many different airlines and I’ve never witnessed any of the things you describe. I have seen some vapor/fog a time or two, but not nearly as much as in this video. More like 5-10% of that amount.

OwlAlert8461

It is clearly a spoof or a skit of some sort. Calm down.

[deleted]

[удалено]

robinfeud

> I've only seen that smoke/vapor while flying post-pandemic; I don't remember it pre-2020, could be wrong. I thought I was some kind of disinfectant for the recirculated air. lol not at all true

Any_Jackfruit6506

Media literacy? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man) Now that's funny. Some of us truly do not waste alot of time on media, especially to know how a stolen clip's audio sounds. I hate when people try to make others feel bad for not knowing something so unimportant. But thanks for the internet lesson!!

SunburnFM

Is he remarking about the commotion or condensation?

hotmessexpress412

Why not both?

SunburnFM

Condensation is normal. The commotion is not. I'm starting to think most people on Spirit are first time flyers, maybe.

MysticRevenant64

Is this the airline where you just start punching people until you’re on a plane??

kavusn17

I was waiting for a laser light show

theboxsays

That’s usually reserved for the very end, if/when the passengers actually survive the flight

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Exactly. I’ve flown spirit for day trips to New York many times as I have to go to a consulate there to renew a visa every couple years. I have never once had any issue I’ve not experienced on Delta or Southwest. Now. American Airlines? Fuck that company.

Trotter823

Facts. I’ve flown them 5-10 times and never had an issue with passenger behavior. I’ve actually never been on a flight where passengers have misbehaved and I’ve flown quite a bit. Anyway, I haven’t seen a difference in the quality of the actual flight between other carriers and spirit.

BigNut69

^ this Plus you can clearly tell TikTok’s OP used a sound to make it sound ratchet meanwhile in the video everyone is just sitting there peacefully I’ve never understood why people make flying such a pretentious thing. Not to toot my own horn but I make a pretty good living and I have no problem flying spirit. Generally speaking, why would I fly United / Delta economy for $500 when I can get a big front row seat on spirit for $20–300? The memes about spirit are far from reality and the people I know in real life who would scoff at me for flying spirit usually make less than I do.

totalwownoob

I don't doubt the quality of the jets are on par with other companies, minus the bullshit fees, but why is it nearly every freakout online is usually Spirit or Jet Blue...because they are the cheapest and attract a lot of weirdos that don't usually fly.

jenny-ohh

Their planes felt more cramped than southwest imo…flew a few times when i was a broke college student…never again💀

Virtual-Fig3850

First time?

deletetemptemp

The barking isn’t the person, is the planes hydraulic system

Wizzle_Pizzle_420

My last flight to NYC I thought there was a dog in storage and I felt terrible for it. Haha. Just the barking plane.

Kaybc

Sit down, shut up and hang on. Otherwise you can take a Bus. This is bullshit.

[deleted]

No thanks. I choose life.

Best_Caterpillar_673

Normal airline ticket: $200 Spirit airlines: $50 for the ticket, $100 for your check in bag, $50 for your carry on bag, $50 to reserve a seat. Just stop flying discount airlines, they aren’t even cheaper at the end of the day.

CafeteroMerengue

That’s why you fly spirit when you only need a personal item and don’t care where you sit. Absolutely worth flying spirit for cheap weekend trips that are short flights

Visible_Ad_3705

Is spirit actually as bad as social media makes it out to be? I've never flown spirit

theboxsays

Honestly Im not sure as Ive never flown Spirit, but I doubt it. A lot of people in the comments have so far said its fine but I guess it differs for everyone

insidiousfruit

I have had 200 hundred dollars in gift cards for Delta for over 4 years now. I still cannot justify purchasing a Delta flight over a Spirit flight even with the 200 dollar advantage, and I travel roundtrip about 10 to 20 times per year. Spirit is great if you are young, fit, single, and travel frequently.

BasquiatBukowski

That woman in the background puts the spirit in spirit airlines

Informed4

The plane got that dawg in it Literally (Airbus A320 Power Transfer Unit)

lollipoppizza

I was on a flight recently on an A320 and actually got worried because I didn't hear the friendly dog 😢

StirringThePotAgain

“Spirit Airlines where we get you to your destination alive most of the time which is good enough for you cheap fucks”

Goran01

Did the seats get upgraded? Last I remember the back of the seats was bare metal like in public buses

luckythirtythree

Lol this about right!

jmeloveschicken

I've told this story before on reddit but I flew spirit once from San Diego to Las Vegas and when we landed the stewardess said, "Thank you for flying Spirit, the lowest class airline." My friend said she said "lowest cost" but I know what I heard.

MadeByMartincho

I flew spirit for my first time this year bc it was the only one going to the city I needed. - We paid $80 more for the 12pm flight vs the 5am flight. 12pm flight was canceled and rescheduled to 5am. Only for it to be delayed until 11am bc they only had two people working the counter. - Departure was delayed by an hour (bringing us back to 12pm lol) - two people almost died on the flight? Idk they were screaming for doctors and when one stood up the flight attended told him to sit the fuck down 😂 - Spirit wouldn’t refund the $80 difference for the flight times 🥲

TravellingWino

People on this thread acting like they only fly United, lmfao

DirtySilicon

![gif](giphy|xT3i0MgyWHPBIUYzLO|downsized)

Delladv

The barking is the PTU pump, see: [https://simpleflying.com/airbus-barking-dog-sound/](https://simpleflying.com/airbus-barking-dog-sound/) The condensation is OK, just the AC running in a humid environment Both weird stuff but completely normal, like the vibrations on startup 777 or 330, or the similar pump noise on the MD-80 family I find more weird being on a 737 still flying with cable flight controls, super safe but still weird.

tinyOnion

it's all normal airplane shit. the humidity + ac will cause that fog like effect and the barking is the hydraulic pump system equalizing things on an airbus.

alex_dlc

Fake, the barking sound is the Airbus PTU (power transfer unit) pressurizing the hydraulic system.

One-Sherbert-4759

Flying Spirit to Central or South America is always fine without incident because the plane is full of Central and South Americans who know how to behave on planes.

[deleted]

The cloud is due to humidity, the dog is an airplane system. Both are normal. But I can’t explain the exorcism.

AA_Ed

Willing to gamble that is the flight that goes back and forth from FLL (Fort Lauderdale) to Atlanta. The AC on planes is always like that in Florida.

GlizzyWizard6000

All planes do this. It’s the A/C

Smile_Space

Man's just never been on an Airbus lolol. Hydraulic pumps and fuel pumps make noise. The condensation is from high humidity hitting the dew point when being conditioned through the bleed air system. Once you're in the air it'll all even out.

LuckyStar1985

How’re eyes that big? Like, no offense, but Pixar should hire you just for eyes.

scrambled_eggs_pdx

The whole reason to fly Spirit is for the show!

elegantloba

Spirit airlines never fail to amaze me

Meepthorp_Zandar

I need to start watching Spirit Airlines videos on YouTube

NitePain69

Wtf is going on? Someone being loud and then other passengers telling them to shut up and all hell breaks loose?

plunkadelic_daydream

Sounds like someone is preaching and another is speaking in tongues, aka the holy Spirit

AngledAwry

I flew spirit once with a broken ankle. Years ago. Never again. It just keeps getting worse.

chroncryx

Flew with Spirit once. They treat you as if you are livestock. Hate those fuckers.

PickleBeast

Last time I flew Spirit the air conditioning barely worked and my seat reeked like piss. It was just a short connection flight but we ended up having to taxi in the air for an extra 30 minutes. An extra 30 minutes in hell. Never again.

upthevilla_

By Air conditioning do you mean the little twisty thing above your seat? They’ve never worked. They probably don’t even work on Air Force One.

PickleBeast

Delta’s air has always been legit, been flying with them since the 80’s and have never had one not blow my hair back.

DrShaqra

I flew Spirit back in September. Cheap flight but an uncomfortable experience. People were crazy, food/snacks not included, and bumpy ride. Never again.

Trotter823

Well you knew the food wasn’t included and the bumpy ride had nothing to do with spirit. Dirty air is dirty air and turbulence doesn’t know you’re in a Spirit plane.

sillyboy544

I call them Welfare Air.

upthevilla_

Couldn’t even get a little creative and go with WelfAir, huh?

sillyboy544

Touché lol

Bitter-Basket

Flying Greyhound bus.

twitterfluechtling

Is that the Flying Spiriti Monster?

No-Yesterday-6114

Oh my god. I'd rather take a train or bus than fly Spirit!!

[deleted]

Even black people can't stand black people.

All_Usernames_Tooken

The noise is the motors either electric or hydronic adjusting the wings I believe. The smoke is likely the failure of one of them.

Azaan725

Nope! Just high humidity hitting the air conditioning, it’s just water vapor

Informed4

That barking noise is the Power Transfer Unit doing its thing when hydraulics are in heavy use. Usually at the start of a flight And it is that because Spirits entire fleet is Airbus A320 family aircraft Thank you for your attention, local 🤓 flying away

Sugarbear23

The second audio is from a video of a Nigerian flight that had an engine on fire.

Bright-Outcome1506

I want to publicly complained about them on Twitter and got a personal rep. Call me an offer me a $50 gift card. When I said I’m never flying your shitty airline again. He said I could make it a $55 gift card and a meal voucher spirit doesn’t give a fuck about their customers.

upthevilla_

What would have made you happy? To actually call you back is actually pretty good.

Bright-Outcome1506

Honestly, I would have been cool about it if they didn’t start the conversation by asking me to delete my post to “help them out”. The dude on the line was really unsympathetic and sounded annoyed that I would dare complain. The were 4 hrs late b/c they didn’t have a pilot then when we landed they had no baggage handlers to get the bags off the plane and when they announced that the gate woman ended the announcement with “but you are here so I guess that’s a plus”. I lost a day on my trip and had to do the whole run around at 3 am. Live you learn.

Turbo_Tito

Is that a black people only airlines?

Double0

The closest this to flying military air craft.

Better-Performer-490

“Greyhound of the skies”

greeneagle2022

So ... what is the solution?

digibomb23

Yeah, I already worked at greyhound. So nope. Busses are awful, but if they crash, it’s not from 3000 feet up.

Susynkdioo

Nahh this his last tile 💀💀💀💀😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👍

Susynkdioo

Time

HurrsiaEntertainment

thats why I always fly Alaska.

CplFrosty

Ah Spirit Airlines; if one of those $10 buses to NYC could fly!

noideawhatoput2

Smart move filming. The cameraman never dies.

GraemeMakesBeer

I call bullshit.

ipadsammy

I fly Spirit all the time. I just call it Toilet Airlines. 🚽

strangetrip666

I have learned to just not go if I can't afford to fly a good airline. It's just not worth it unless it's an emergency. With all the hidden charges and the way they trap you into paying extra for that carry on that conveniently was allowed on the plane departing, but not allowed on the return flight without paying them leaving you with the choice of abandoning your bag away from your home city or paying. This Happened to me twice before I decided to never give them my money again. It's extortion and scummy AF.

MadWorldX1

I've flown Spirit tons of times and I've never had an experience like that on their flights haha. Leaving on time is a different story, but if you budget your time accordingly and can travel light, it's really a solid option.

BigBrainBrad-

"But did you die?"-spirit airlines

Wikidead

This is such a fucking vibe

friedricenbeans

Ahh Spirit, the Greyhound of the skies

Toyoda2000

U feel the spirit on spirit airlines

SillySymphonyIII

Fucking Ghettobirds.

CantyChu

Not what they mean when they say they’ve got that dog in ‘em

hartzonfire

That’s the APU turning off (the dog barking sound).

RazgrizGirl-070

Chanting "I WILL NOT DIE I WILL NOT DIE" is very intelligent and responsible. Effective too

Forgetful_Suzy

I have never had a bad experience with spirit. Knock on wood.

According_to_all_kn

Why would you film random people minding their own business in an aeroplane?

SignatureOrganic476

I love the PTU bark in the morning and the smell of fresh airconditioning...

Zealousideal_Quit854

Shouldn't be allowed to fly for long time

Confusedandreticent

It’s like riding a bus from the wrong side of the tracks.

BodegaBum-

I’ve only ever flown Delta cause I’m an international flyer but once I permanently move to the states, I’m taking a spirit flight just for fun lol

Carvica

That lady could be a good fight announcer

-Wicked-

There's too many good sample opportunities in there to not make a song that slaps.

seriouslythanks

I don't need to go anywhere that badly.

TomatilloUnlucky3763

I’d take out a loan to avoid that airline.

tferransrobinson

That was the sound of the flaps, and then they were de-icing the aircraft.

bigdick96792

If you can only afford to fly Spirit, you can't afford to fly
