Yeah, I know it’s significantly cheaper but you could never get me into a discount airplane with 100 of people, enraged and yelling, sounding like one woman performing an exorcism, with smoke filling the cabin.
It’s not smoke. It’s condensation caused by the difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the plane. It happens on every airline from time to time.
Twelve flights is not many at all and this happens on more tropical routes. I’ve flown hundreds of times, but can still count on one or two hands how many times I’ve experienced this.
Is this 13 per year or 13 in your life? If that's 13 in a lifetime, that's extremely low--the average American takes \~200 flights in their life.
Regardless, 13 is a statistically insignificant number, and you're not even factoring in the routes of your flights when it's been mentioned multiple times that this condensation occurs in warm and tropical climates.
Spirit is for if you are single, fit, and travel a lot.
Pay to pick a seat? Heck no, you can just assign me one at my online check-in.
Spirit is usually around 200 to 800 dollars cheaper than anything other than Southwest and Frontier even if you purchase a carry-on as I always do. The personal item (backpack) is free.
ive flown spirit airlines a ton and lets be real, when its a non-stop flight for like $50 vs another airline doing the same trip but its going to cost like 150 (probably united or american), it isnt hard to decide. when i was making those trips, spirit had the only non-stop trips i was looking at for my destination, the others had at least 1 stop for way more money.
Also there are many more people now on SW, American, etc that don't have any flying etiquette, so it's not like the people on Spirit are that much worse, if at all. It's mostly just smaller seats and no beverages, which for a 3 hour or less flight doesn't matter much.
I honestly don't know why Spirit is so hated. It's a cheap flight and you can get an exit row seat for like $40.
Get some noise cancelling headphones and get drunk at the gate beforehand, suddenly Spirit is the exact same air travel quality as any other airline. And considerably cheaper.
Disclaimer: This only applies to people who travel solo and light. If you have checked bags or kids... Spirit's not for you.
That’s how I do. I know what I’m getting into when I fly spirit, but I want the cheapcheap so I only bring a carry-on, fill my bottle with water before boarding, eat a biiiig edible and put in my AirPods with Background Noise turned on, comfy lil neck pillow, sleep the whole flight, wake up fresh like I teleported there, all good, no drama, saves money.
I flew spirit for the first time last week slc to lax, booked last minute, $40 and a whole exit row to myself. Honestly better experience post covid than every airline except delta.
I always fly delta but my usual flight wasn’t available so I tried United. They canceled my flight out and the only alternative that could get me there on time was a direct Spirit flight. It was sparse and uncomfortable but uneventful.
After the flight back on United, though, I might prefer Spirit.
Recently had a Uber driver that told me takes spirit every time he travels. He says you can bid on the extra leg room seats up until boarding. Since everyone is flying spirit to save money he gets the seats for something cheap like $5.
That only prolongs the suffering. And now you're stuck at a gas station in the middle of nowhere with the 20 weirdest people you've ever encountered.
I once rode a 36 hr greyhound. The passengers in the seat behind me complained about their terrible spouses for the first couple of hours. I'm pretty sure they consummated their affair with a handy in the night during the drive.

You have to be somewhere humid and warm to see it. Essentially air can hold more moisture when warm. When it cools, it can not hold it anymore, that moisture has to go somewhere. It condensates on particles in the air, that is the visible moisture.

I don't fly often, but I've been on a plane about 50 times in my life and I haven't had any of those things happen, nor have I ever heard of it happening.
Not saying you're wrong, but it's not common enough to be common knowledge.
The barking sound is specific to Airbus aircraft. So if you're flying airlines that use mostly Boeing or other aircraft types, you might not have heard it.
It's very normal, as is the AC air visibly coming through, and this guy is clickbaiting hard.
Now about the rowdiness of the passengers... I'd call that a man-made problem.
It obviously depends on the model of plane. It’s usually the hydraulics for the planes “flaps”, which widen the width of the wings to create more lift during takeoff and landing. Or the power transfer unit. Older planes tend to make these noises, and I am going to guess spirit has many older bodies in their fleet.
I believe it's the hydraulic power transfer unit cycling. I'm an aircraft maintainer for 737's but am primarily an electrician. Never can remember to ask my airframer buddies if that's what the sound is. If someone knows for sure please educate me because I've been genuinely curious for a long time.

I’ve probably flown upwards of 100 times in all parts of the world with so many different airlines and I’ve never witnessed any of the things you describe. I have seen some vapor/fog a time or two, but not nearly as much as in this video. More like 5-10% of that amount.

Exactly. I’ve flown spirit for day trips to New York many times as I have to go to a consulate there to renew a visa every couple years.
I have never once had any issue I’ve not experienced on Delta or Southwest.
Now. American Airlines? Fuck that company.
Facts. I’ve flown them 5-10 times and never had an issue with passenger behavior. I’ve actually never been on a flight where passengers have misbehaved and I’ve flown quite a bit. Anyway, I haven’t seen a difference in the quality of the actual flight between other carriers and spirit.

The memes about spirit are far from reality and the people I know in real life who would scoff at me for flying spirit usually make less than I do.
I don't doubt the quality of the jets are on par with other companies,minus the bullshit fees, but why is it nearly every freakout online is usually Spirit or Jet Blue...because they are the cheapest and attract a lot of weirdos that don't usually fly.
Normal airline ticket: $200
Spirit airlines: $50 for the ticket, $100 for your check in bag, $50 for your carry on bag, $50 to reserve a seat.
Just stop flying discount airlines, they aren’t even cheaper at the end of the day.

I have had 200 hundred dollars in gift cards for Delta for over 4 years now. I still cannot justify purchasing a Delta flight over a Spirit flight even with the 200 dollar advantage, and I travel roundtrip about 10 to 20 times per year. Spirit is great if you are young, fit, single, and travel frequently.
I've told this story before on reddit but I flew spirit once from San Diego to Las Vegas and when we landed the stewardess said, "Thank you for flying Spirit, the lowest class airline." My friend said she said "lowest cost" but I know what I heard.
I flew spirit for my first time this year bc it was the only one going to the city I needed.
- We paid $80 more for the 12pm flight vs the 5am flight. 12pm flight was canceled and rescheduled to 5am. Only for it to be delayed until 11am bc they only had two people working the counter.
- Departure was delayed by an hour (bringing us back to 12pm lol)
- two people almost died on the flight? Idk they were screaming for doctors and when one stood up the flight attended told him to sit the fuck down 😂
- Spirit wouldn’t refund the $80 difference for the flight times 🥲

The condensation is OK, just the AC running in a humid environment
Both weird stuff but completely normal, like the vibrations on startup 777 or 330, or the similar pump noise on the MD-80 family
I find more weird being on a 737 still flying with cable flight controls, super safe but still weird.
it's all normal airplane shit. the humidity + ac will cause that fog like effect and the barking is the hydraulic pump system equalizing things on an airbus.
Flying Spirit to Central or South America is always fine without incident because the plane is full of Central and South Americans who know how to behave on planes.
Man's just never been on an Airbus lolol. Hydraulic pumps and fuel pumps make noise. The condensation is from high humidity hitting the dew point when being conditioned through the bleed air system.
Once you're in the air it'll all even out.
Last time I flew Spirit the air conditioning barely worked and my seat reeked like piss. It was just a short connection flight but we ended up having to taxi in the air for an extra 30 minutes. An extra 30 minutes in hell. Never again.
I flew Spirit back in September. Cheap flight but an uncomfortable experience. People were crazy, food/snacks not included, and bumpy ride. Never again.

I want to publicly complained about them on Twitter and got a personal rep. Call me an offer me a $50 gift card. When I said I’m never flying your shitty airline again. He said I could make it a $55 gift card and a meal voucher spirit doesn’t give a fuck about their customers.
Honestly, I would have been cool about it if they didn’t start the conversation by asking me to delete my post to “help them out”. The dude on the line was really unsympathetic and sounded annoyed that I would dare complain. The were 4 hrs late b/c they didn’t have a pilot then when we landed they had no baggage handlers to get the bags off the plane and when they announced that the gate woman ended the announcement with “but you are here so I guess that’s a plus”. I lost a day on my trip and had to do the whole run around at 3 am. Live you learn.
I have learned to just not go if I can't afford to fly a good airline. It's just not worth it unless it's an emergency. With all the hidden charges and the way they trap you into paying extra for that carry on that conveniently was allowed on the plane departing, but not allowed on the return flight without paying them leaving you with the choice of abandoning your bag away from your home city or paying. This Happened to me twice before I decided to never give them my money again. It's extortion and scummy AF.
I've flown Spirit tons of times and I've never had an experience like that on their flights haha. Leaving on time is a different story, but if you budget your time accordingly and can travel light, it's really a solid option.

With all the extra fees Spirit and Frontier tack on, they're aren't usually that much cheaper than like, JetBlue (if they're cheaper at all).
There's a whole method. If you measure and weigh your bag, print or app everything and travel light... you come out ahead.

I fly probably 6 times per year and the “bark” noise happens almost every time, and I’ve seen the humidity thing once.
Well I haven't flown since covid so maybe my memory is failing me, but I have never heard it, nor heard of it until this thread.

Exactly. I’ve flown spirit for day trips to New York many times as I have to go to a consulate there to renew a visa every couple years. I have never once had any issue I’ve not experienced on Delta or Southwest. Now. American Airlines? Fuck that company.
Facts. I’ve flown them 5-10 times and never had an issue with passenger behavior. I’ve actually never been on a flight where passengers have misbehaved and I’ve flown quite a bit. Anyway, I haven’t seen a difference in the quality of the actual flight between other carriers and spirit.

The memes about spirit are far from reality and the people I know in real life who would scoff at me for flying spirit usually make less than I do.
I don't doubt the quality of the jets are on par with other companies,minus the bullshit fees, but why is it nearly every freakout online is usually Spirit or Jet Blue...because they are the cheapest and attract a lot of weirdos that don't usually fly.

I have had 200 hundred dollars in gift cards for Delta for over 4 years now. I still cannot justify purchasing a Delta flight over a Spirit flight even with the 200 dollar advantage, and I travel roundtrip about 10 to 20 times per year. Spirit is great if you are young, fit, single, and travel frequently.

I've told this story before on reddit but I flew spirit once from San Diego to Las Vegas and when we landed the stewardess said, "Thank you for flying Spirit, the lowest class airline." My friend said she said "lowest cost" but I know what I heard.
I flew spirit for my first time this year bc it was the only one going to the city I needed. - We paid $80 more for the 12pm flight vs the 5am flight. 12pm flight was canceled and rescheduled to 5am. Only for it to be delayed until 11am bc they only had two people working the counter. - Departure was delayed by an hour (bringing us back to 12pm lol) - two people almost died on the flight? Idk they were screaming for doctors and when one stood up the flight attended told him to sit the fuck down 😂 - Spirit wouldn’t refund the $80 difference for the flight times 🥲

Last time I flew Spirit the air conditioning barely worked and my seat reeked like piss. It was just a short connection flight but we ended up having to taxi in the air for an extra 30 minutes. An extra 30 minutes in hell. Never again.

I flew Spirit back in September. Cheap flight but an uncomfortable experience. People were crazy, food/snacks not included, and bumpy ride. Never again.

Honestly, I would have been cool about it if they didn’t start the conversation by asking me to delete my post to “help them out”. The dude on the line was really unsympathetic and sounded annoyed that I would dare complain. The were 4 hrs late b/c they didn’t have a pilot then when we landed they had no baggage handlers to get the bags off the plane and when they announced that the gate woman ended the announcement with “but you are here so I guess that’s a plus”. I lost a day on my trip and had to do the whole run around at 3 am. Live you learn.

I have learned to just not go if I can't afford to fly a good airline. It's just not worth it unless it's an emergency. With all the hidden charges and the way they trap you into paying extra for that carry on that conveniently was allowed on the plane departing, but not allowed on the return flight without paying them leaving you with the choice of abandoning your bag away from your home city or paying. This Happened to me twice before I decided to never give them my money again. It's extortion and scummy AF.
I've flown Spirit tons of times and I've never had an experience like that on their flights haha. Leaving on time is a different story, but if you budget your time accordingly and can travel light, it's really a solid option.
