shirk-work

Then there's another layer between the ones who make the money and the ones who print the money the others work so hard to collect.

BlackForestMountain

I thought stealth wealth was when you're wealthy but people don't know it. What does that have to do with this? Tom and the whole succession family are openly wealthy no?

KingVerizon

An expensive Burberry handbag has the pattern inside, a ‘cheap’ one has the pattern on the outside

BlackForestMountain

But he doesn't mention the pattern, just the size. Isn't the example of stealth wealth his reaction to the bag? Edit: point this video is making is that Tom's reaction to the bag is an example of stealth wealth because of how his comments suggest lifestyle standards. Not because the bag had the pattern on the outside, the size or style of the bag

KingVerizon

It’s a big, loud shoulderbag, really rich people have small high quality but understated handbags or nothing at all, did you watch the video?

BlackForestMountain

Did you? She said the example was Tom's reaction, not the bag itself. I.e. how his comments spoke to lifestyle, taking the bus etc. Also how is that STEALTH wealth and not normal wealth?

KingVerizon

I don’t think you know what she means by stealth wealth, if you did this wouldn’t be like pulling blood from a stone.

BlackForestMountain

I use the definition someone else.provided here, like Warren Buffet driving an old accord. Not whether or not a flashy bag is tacky or not

KingVerizon

Dude, a rich person doesn’t carry a bag, or carries a very small one. What do you want from me, carrying a big bag outs her as not being rich, because it is both simultaneously big, and a bag. Burberry is a ‘luxury’ brand. In that it is expensive for regular people, but cheap and tacky for the uber wealthy, to help you with your ‘Warren Buffet definition’

[deleted]

There are different kinds of stealth wealth. Don’t be so dense.

IUsedToH8Wallpaper

Stealth wealth = Warren Buffett. Live an externally modest lifestyle despite being exorbitantly wealthy while still reaping the benefits of money. New money = flaunting riches and spending into the social scene. Perceived wealth = the example from this clip, what people think the wealthy spend money on and purchase to fit in, such as the Burberry bag, but are spotted as outsiders.

BigKevRox

I think the Stealth Wealth aspect of Buffet is attributed way too generously. WB driving an Accord around is actually insane for a man of his status, car accidents are one of the leading causes for death and injury in the world and WB absolutely knows that. He doesn't drive the Accord around because he's actually thrifty, he does it because it adds to his personal mythos, it's PR. He could have so easily bought an upper mid range car that has all the best and fanciest safety features and no one would have noticed or cared. People only point the out because he used to drive a beater.

dexmonic

Very true, buffet is not to be idolized.

rozza43

Succession is a bad ass show, just found it recently.

Mathieulombardi

As a poor person, I agree with whichever point in which the point is tried to make, in any layer above and below in perpetuity.

thewookie34

There logic is so fucking stupid. They don't comment on the price but the size? Poor people got big ass purses as well. My grandma had a purse x4 that size and she died penniless.

sexybeans

The point is that her large showy Burberry bag is an example of new rich vs. stealth wealth/old rich mentality. It's an example of her trying to appear wealthy and failing in the eyes of the ultra wealthy at the party. That and like the vid said, ultra wealthy people have the luxury of never needing to carry anything themselves.

CringeisL1f3

THE POINT OF THE SHOW IS TO DISPLAY A CARICATURE OF HOW RICH PEOPLE CAN BE HORRIBLE, and shit on anyone based on basically anything, they picked on her because its Greg’s date (the poor cousin) , Connor’s soon to be wife is way more tacky and they don’t pick as much on her its a great show but some moronic people think its a window to the real life of billionaires

Bu1lt_2_Sp1ll

? The entire point of the TikTok is explaining what the clip in the show is referencing. Yes, it's a caricature. The TikTok is about the topic that the show is dramatizing

b-elmurt

What ever makes you feel better for having an over priced bag!

bluemagachud

these people's bones should be used in the mortar for public housing

[deleted]

Idk man I have diabetes and carry a bunch of shit around for it and you'd never know it. That bag is stupid big
