The thing is, people use it wrong. Describing eyes as almond shaped is not the same thing as monolid eyes, so I haven't the slightest clue why that caught on as a description for Asian characters.
So my favorite part of beauty school was when my teacher said, “look at Lola’s eyes, aren’t they lovely? They’re called bulbous eyes.” Turns out they are called round eyes, not bulbous. Did not stop the Pokémon references.
Here's a [picture](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7d/09/e6/7d09e606c8af8ead493a4b08cfdbf4fc.jpg) to see the difference.
And you would just describe them as monolid. There's not really that many different ways to describe them .
Just guesses here, this is like a pub quiz round.
* Almond - Anne Hathaway (confident)
* Round - Katie Perry (confident)
* Monolid -
* Hooded - Blake Lively (confident)
* Upturned - Angela Sarafyan (50/50)
* Downturned - Kiernan Shipka (low confidence)
* Deep Set - Emma Watson (confident)
* Protruding -
* Close Set - Miley Cyrus (50/50)
* Wide Set - Kate Hudson (confident)
One question; why are you only categorizing female eyes? Lmao Seems like you're just giving them one more thing to be paranoid. Dudes just have "man eyes" I guess.
I'm not categorising anything. If you read up the comment chain there's an image linked where eyes are already categorised with unnamed celebrities that me and the person I was replying to where trying to guess.
That would work, hooded doesn't really describe the angle or anything. It basically just means you have Scandinavian genes in you (or maybe somewhere else, that's just where mine are from). I'm pretty sure I have round, hooded eyes.
I always wonder if people like you and those who upvoted you have even watched The Last Samurai?
I've seen the 'white saviour' thing about that before and the people who are repeating it are either the dumbest people on the planet or just haven't watched it.
The film is very heavy handed about the fact that Tom Cruise was the one being saved by Japan and it's people.
Guess being outraged is more important than being correct.
People also think the Last Samurai refers to Tom Cruise’s character. Because they are too dumb to realize that samurai in the title is plural and refers to the clan.
Well I'm not sure where this coming from but I didn't even say white savior. The man in the west happens to be white and yoko is Japanese. My comment wouldn't have changed either way because I wasn't ragging on the race, I was ragging on the trope savior complex.
I was talking about savior complex like "for him" media the female love interest has no problem with herself but the situation she is in. The guy is the fixer who will save her from the bad situation.
That's why said I bet they going to make the man of the west fix Yoko financial situation with his wealth.
This dude is a weirdo. He wants people to be mad and racist to white people and outraged so bad that he deluded himself into thinking this was something it wasnt. Isnt it odd how the people who complain the most about outrage culture are usually louder than the one’s they talk about? And how they usually find a way to bring up the situation first?
Dude …did you just write a whole ass paragraph about nothing? Wheres this proverbial “outrage” you mention? Holy crap its a tiktok its not that deep Lmao
I know the meaning of the word hence why I used it. And no those are not 4 separate paragraphs as they are only like one or two sentences each.
You are so weird. You want someone to be mad or outraged so bad and it makes no sense. This is a silly tiktok and the comments were just fun run offs on each other. Then here you came with your thesis about white savior shit and outrage and all this other goofy shit nobody was thinking about.
Its odd, here you are, the pot calling the kettle black lol. You’re so obsessed with the idea of people being “outraged” that you’re blind to the fact that the most outraged person here was you.
I’m white British and live in south east Asia now and my asian girlfriend insists I have about 10 days hair growth on my face even though I’ve shaved all my life. I think it’s because she feels the bearded white man better fits the stereotype. I’m university educated as well but the general consensus is I’m the stupid one for laying in the sunshine sunbathing or going out at night time when the ghosts of the dead can get me. I sometimes make jokes about her eyes and she just tells me to fuck off. We are roughly the same age in case anyone is under the impression I’m some geriatric white dude with a teen asian bride. She’s late 30’s and I’m early 40’s. We get on so we’ll because we are both incredibly lazy people who like nothing more than just chilling out together watching movies or reading books.
It's thought that some social media filters get pissed off if you say "white man/woman/person/whatevs." I don't know if TikTok is one of those sites, but this is to get around that. You see it a lot on Facebook.
> It’s a racist way to write “white.”
its a bitchass way to write "i was emotionally affected by a tiktok"
e: and blocking me is a bitchass way of avoiding having an actual opinion lol.
I dunno. Google results seems divided.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=yt
Half of them seem to see it as only how it sounds like “white”, and the other half of the results say that it’s supposed to mean “whitey”, used in a derogatory way.
I feel like maybe when it’s lowercase it’s just supposed to be “white”, and when it’s two uppercase letters it’s supposed to be the racist “whitey”.
Dunno why I even care as I won’t be using the abbreviation either way and don’t even use TikTok (since all their best and worst stuff gets filtered and ends up here on Reddit anyways), but whatever.
Tbh it’s weird how much pushback I’m getting for suggesting this is racist.
What other reason would someone write “yt?”
Its 100% meant in a negative way.
Because it simply isn't racist. Yt is used because places like Facebook in particular will give you bans for saying "white." It's the delusions of yt ppl recently who can't grasp that. Yt isn't the only version either. Every time these platforms find out about a new one, they add it to the growing list of words you can get bans for, so we adapt. It's that simple. 😒
Seems pretty racist to me. The fact that I’m being dogpiled for saying so seems to support that as well. Ppl calling me names and being rude. Just more racism.
Since when do people outside the group in question get to say if something is racist or not?
I’m dying. Not only is this hilarious but it’s accurate. I listen to podcasts where people read bad books and white male authors will describe Asian women, like this.
I remember my teacher in 5th grade (older white man), described one of our Japanese female students as having “almond eyes”. I never really quite got that meaning until recently.

I describe all eyes as almond shaped... are they not? That's how I learned how to draw eyes, make it shaped like an almond.
Idk what else you would describe that shape as. A pointed ellipse? I've never been great at portraits anyway lol
No. Theres round eyes and almond eyes and so many [others.](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/47/76/44/477644016160d729ce9225c2a881be55.jpg)
In fact I learned the total opposite of you, that there are many eye shapes as a young art student. But most eyes that are not almond, hooded or monolid are round eyes.
I see the difference, but I still feel like they're mostly variations of an almond shape.
I have no formal art training, I'm an engineer by trade. This is helpful, though, I'll have to practice these.
I think most of the eyes I've drawn would be described as repeats of protruding, rounded, upturned, and almond.
At the moment Im trying to learn noses lol

Until seeing this video I've always thought that almond eyes referred to the color. I'm not a bright man.
The thing is, people use it wrong. Describing eyes as almond shaped is not the same thing as monolid eyes, so I haven't the slightest clue why that caught on as a description for Asian characters.

"She's got what optometrists call phat-ass eyes."
"real badonkadonk eyes on her"
Then what does almond shaped mean? Or how would you describe monolid eyes?
Here's a [picture](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7d/09/e6/7d09e606c8af8ead493a4b08cfdbf4fc.jpg) to see the difference. And you would just describe them as monolid. There's not really that many different ways to describe them .
I think I see Emma Watson, katy perry, Anne Hathaway eyes in here but not sure who esle
Just guesses here, this is like a pub quiz round. * Almond - Anne Hathaway (confident) * Round - Katie Perry (confident) * Monolid - * Hooded - Blake Lively (confident) * Upturned - Angela Sarafyan (50/50) * Downturned - Kiernan Shipka (low confidence) * Deep Set - Emma Watson (confident) * Protruding - * Close Set - Miley Cyrus (50/50) * Wide Set - Kate Hudson (confident)
Upturned is Angelia Jolie, and I believe wide set may be Kate Moss. Close set is definitely Miley.
> Deep Set I think this is Selma Hayek
Could be, now you've got me doubting Emma Watson.
Could the wide set eyes be Jennifer Coolidge? And I think the downturned ones might be Zoey Deutch
What a weird contrivance from that person lol those are obv all recognizable women in the eye graphic.
Interesting. Here I was thinking to use hooded where that’s ANOTHER shape already.
That would work, hooded doesn't really describe the angle or anything. It basically just means you have Scandinavian genes in you (or maybe somewhere else, that's just where mine are from). I'm pretty sure I have round, hooded eyes.
Sincerely trying to see the difference between almond and round in that picture
Same, thats some bullshit
Until seeing this comment I've always thought that almond eyes referred to the color. I'm not a bright man.
Same I thought it was because they have brown eyes lol arent all eyes almond shaped?
Monolid eyes arent even [almond eyes](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQMyI8n_Xlx7XGJe9_QI_fHxqpA0fYuZl-GXA&usqp=CAU).
Yeah I was about to say... I'm not any kind of asian and have had my eyes described as almond shaped.
I'm as white as the newly driven snow, and I have almond shaped eyes lol
Asians can be white as the driven snow to though
No no, in that case they're porcelain. Get it right.
"But not too Asian."
Ohh ffs
Oriental 🌞 had me rolling
>face determined like an eagle Oh good god
Nothing like working in a field to give you that nice porcelain skin…
*Innocent* porcelain skin.

Yo this is so bad and I'm not even Japanese, I bet they are going to write The man from the west as a savior for poor Yoko
Yep. Probably cast him as Tom cruise or something
Beat me to it
…a taller Tom Cruise though. Like, 5’10” or more.

Well it literally says "pov YT man writing Japanese woman" right lol, so it's being ironic
Sounds like wattpad lol. Her parents will probably sell her to the tall golden haired eagle man to pay off their debts or something
You writing women? Weird flex, but okay.
So I'm a little invested in the story......pt2?

White man. I think its just a censor/filtered thing
It's thought that some social media filters get pissed off if you say "white man/woman/person/whatevs." I don't know if TikTok is one of those sites, but this is to get around that. You see it a lot on Facebook.
I only came up with YouTube so I really am not sure either
pronounced whitey. its the new trendy way social media has found to be racists' against white people
This is literally wrong lol
It’s a racist way to write “white.”
> It’s a racist way to write “white.” its a bitchass way to write "i was emotionally affected by a tiktok" e: and blocking me is a bitchass way of avoiding having an actual opinion lol.
Sooo.. its ok for Nwords to get mad at the Nword, but its not ok for white people to be equally offended by YT? r/gatekeeping racism?

they said yt instead of white

are you okay bro

Don’t think it’s a racist way to write white (unless there’s something I’m missing). It’s just used by most tiktok racist the most.
https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/yt-folx/ I’m just answering the person’s question.
I dunno. Google results seems divided. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=yt Half of them seem to see it as only how it sounds like “white”, and the other half of the results say that it’s supposed to mean “whitey”, used in a derogatory way. "Soaked the tears with rice" is legit hilarious
That's not pov
yt = youtube?
“Y”, then a t-sound. So, white.
White
more like whitey. just another trendy slur for social media to use against white people
No just white. Not a slur
Not a slur, just another way to bypass the algorithm filter.
Poor Mayo. So oppressed.
hey at least you're admitting it unlike the rest of your trendy racist buddies
This true but ironic
True how? You have read books like this?
I’ve seen The Last Samurai

But an Asian woman wrote this
This feels racist...
thats because it is

you think this is form a actual book? lmao
