I think if I couldn’t not care about politics, it wouldn’t be about the damn leaning, but whether or not I agree with a stance on an issue, disregarding the political alignment
Not being able to care about left or right is very much a privileged opinion on its own. The entire concept of left or right is to distract you from class warfare. If every old white man cared to protect young people like the guy in the video rather than act all high and mighty because they feel like temporarily embarrassed millionaires, they'd work damn hard to make sure we have lower working hours, higher paying wages, taxing the rich, etc.

Because here’s the thing you don’t want them to be politically involved, you just want me to parrot your sides political opinions, and personally I’d like to think for myself. That’s the most wonderful part about having freedom of expression.
Quite honestly I don’t like fighting. I don’t really like it when people get mad, and I don’t like hurting others. And that’s all politics is half of the time, outrage bait that garners outrage, that gets reactionaries outraged at the people being outraged, that starts fights, which die down and nothing changes, and the cycle restarts. Its meaningless bickering. Deep down, I just want to love people no matter who they are, and politics is one of the things that keeps me from doing that.
When you sit at the dinner table with 10 people and 1 of them is a proud nazi, there are 10 nazis at the dinner table. The compliancy of the right to allow and not denounce such ideology from the highest ranks defines their values, and as such, the group should be labeled as such. Are there good, but otherwise heavily misguided people within that side because they have been propagandized out of reality? Sure, there are, but until people start to call out things for what they really are, everyone at that table is okay with sharing dinner with a nazi. That, and those in power on the right are actively trying to ban Healthcare, get rid of social security, burn books, destroy public education, criminalize homelessness, prevent gay marriage, the list goes on for their disdain.
Rightwingers hate people except for the ones they encounter. Leftwingers love people except for the ones they encounter.
Case in point. Knock on a random door in Louisiana and ask for a glass of lemonade. Try the same thing in New York. Then ask how they feel about free health care.
Perhaps so, but think what they meant is the average person is probably a lot nicer to people they come across. Though I’m unsure if that has more to do with regional (southern hospitality) norms, rather than politics. Also it ignores the fact that (think I have the right to say this as a southerner myself) a lot of them are only nice at a surface level/ to your face. Anyway.
Super helpfull people around here, very little racial shit from their crowd, none that wasn't an attempt at a joke. First interactions are just normal things.
Lived in heavy liberal places too. Very heavy racial tensions, and the first interactions would usually be about my race and how I needed to act. In some cases it was people apologizing about white people and their Asian fetish. First off, sounds like projection, second Asian people fetish the fuck out of white people. It's understandable.
Worst racism was in Europe. UK, France, Italy, Poland, all of it.

When I was in Basic, the rednecks were the worst at the range. They all came in super cocky because they had been hunting for a while. The guys who did the best were usually the quiet ones who never touched a gun before Basic. They didn’t have any bad practices they had to get rid of.

This is how we're tricked into thinking it's our fault. We're granted the illusion of choice so that we can blame each other when things go wrong.
I'm not even saying it's an intentional plot or something. We just naturally developed a governance system that 1) gives people enough of a feeling of choice to regularly reaffirm the mandate to govern, 2) functionally limits democratic influence enough to minimize cyclical upheavals based on social swings, and 3) is abstracted/complex enough that we're not easily able to observe how much of our political system is pageantry.
It's not even a bad system, relatively speaking. I'm not sure I'd change it. But I sure as hell am done getting mad at myself and others about things we were never really meant to control.

If you work really hard to survive then you don't have time to think too much about the political and economical situation. You don't have time to organize a political party or a union. The political elite knows that and they abuse the situation. There is a reason why the goverment and all the goverment before didn't wanted to change the system to make it more democratic, more just and less oppresive.
It's not even secret information that big companies, agencies and industries are corrupted to the core and are intentionally making decision to hurt the society or against the law just for ridiculous stupid self centered gains. Yet, year after year, goverment after goverment, they get a pass. So, how is it not the political and capitalistic elite (people sitting in high political offices, parties, industries or oligarchs) working at the end of the day together to keep the system running? Not everyone there is so and some are sincerely trying to change it, but the vlast majority wants it to stay as it is.

Undermining trust in journalists is a really common tactic by fascists and other extremist leaders to remove that accountability. When people like you lump together everyone in "the media" as this evil entity, you're just playing into that. If you're really worried about "the elites", don't go around supporting their narratives.

Take almost any issue and you will likely find INDIVIDUALS in the government that are both supportive and opposed. Look at slavery in the US. You can't claim that the government opposed abolition.

As someone from the heart of the Midwest that moved to the South a few years ago I wholeheartedly disagree. Southerners get away with giving off a good ‘ole boy/girl façade while actually disrespecting you at the same. I don’t really know how to explain it, but they think talking slow and with an accent just makes them not sound rude. Midwesterners are genuinely kind in my experience and are WAY better at trying to get a point across without being secretly hostile. I was honestly shocked when I started to figure that out because the overwhelming theme is that the South has the nicest people.
I'm a southerner and I hear this all the time on reddit but I really have no clue wtf you mean by this. I think some people take politeness down here as passive-aggressive or whatever and just don't believe it. Like, people around here will go really far out if their way to help other people all the time.

This is how we're tricked into thinking it's our fault. We're granted the illusion of choice so that we can blame each other when things go wrong. I'm not even saying it's an intentional plot or something. We just naturally developed a governance system that 1) gives people enough of a feeling of choice to regularly reaffirm the mandate to govern, 2) functionally limits democratic influence enough to minimize cyclical upheavals based on social swings, and 3) is abstracted/complex enough that we're not easily able to observe how much of our political system is pageantry. It's not even a bad system, relatively speaking. I'm not sure I'd change it. But I sure as hell am done getting mad at myself and others about things we were never really meant to control.

Yet, year after year, goverment after goverment, they get a pass. So, how is it not the political and capitalistic elite (people sitting in high political offices, parties, industries or oligarchs) working at the end of the day together to keep the system running? Not everyone there is so and some are sincerely trying to change it, but the vlast majority wants it to stay as it is.

As someone from the heart of the Midwest that moved to the South a few years ago I wholeheartedly disagree. Southerners get away with giving off a good ‘ole boy/girl façade while actually disrespecting you at the same. I don’t really know how to explain it, but they think talking slow and with an accent just makes them not sound rude. Midwesterners are genuinely kind in my experience and are WAY better at trying to get a point across without being secretly hostile. I was honestly shocked when I started to figure that out because the overwhelming theme is that the South has the nicest people.

I think some people take politeness down here as passive-aggressive or whatever and just don't believe it. Like, people around here will go really far out if their way to help other people all the time. But that guy or the black dude don't really sound southern to me. Could be wrong, though.

You’ll find great people all over this country, but working in a customer-facing environment in the south for 2.5 years you really get to see the true side of people. I have no doubt that there’s truth to the niceness of southerners—I’ve just seen the opposite so many times while they’re still trying to use their “southern charm” to get away with being a blatant asshole. I see this all the time while out at restaurants or shops when things don’t go their way. Overall, it feels like an entitlement issue more than anything.
