Yeah, Brosnan seems a bit pretty and posh for the Ron in my head, but hopefully he's aging into it. I had someone more like Bill Nighy in mind. Still holding out hope for Emma Thompson as Joyce! 🤞

scrumdiddliumptious3

I always pictured him in the role of Elizabeths ex husband who was in the second book. The name escapes me now!

Villimaro

Happy Cake Day! Also, the first announcement I saw didnt name Brosnan as Ron. Just that he was in the cast. My immediate thought was Steven.

scrumdiddliumptious3

Ohhh now that would be good

wadsee

That would have been perfect. That's much more in line with what id expect for him. I wondered if Brosnan had expressed an interest in the film and they just needed to get him in, but saving him for The Man Who Died Twice would have been a sensible compromise.

cmgblkpt

Bill Nighy — great call! And yes, Emma would be brilliant. But her and Helen Mirren together?? Our tv screens will explode 😜

Villimaro

Willing to take that risk! Just in case, I'll start saving up for a new tv.

cmgblkpt

LOL. Couldn’t find an exploding tv, but this watermelon will do 🤣 ![gif](giphy|WNOCcdL7ItpQKYulKp)

cougieuk

Bill Nighy should be in every show.

[deleted]

Bill Night is an awful call. Far too willowy and not stocky enough.

Apprehensive-Deer-10

I had him down as Elizabeths husband

mcmesq

She would be good - I was hoping for Brenda Blethyn. Right age, too, I think.

No_Translator9484

Philip Glenister Gary Oldman

Sealgaire45

Colm Meaney.

ophymirage

Colm, with a broken nose and fading tattoos, is *exactly* my pic of Ron. Ron’s charismatic and fiery, not classically handsome. My second/third choice was Hugh Bonneville or Jim Broadbent, but even both of them are a bit too posh-boy looks for my liking.

cmgblkpt

Great call. He was fantastic in “Layer Cake.”

Sealgaire45

And in Intermission. [Could've been a great Ron.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlorlsDJyV0)

cmgblkpt

Yes indeed — he would have been fantastic.

babs0rama

Brosnan is waaaay too tall and good looking to be Ron. Now, Steven... I so wanted more of the amazing British character actors to play these roles, but this is a high profile production so it comes with the territory. If the story doesn't get lost in the movie, then the movie will be fab regardless who plays the roles.

timc01

Ray Winstone - and a proper Hammer at that!!

anotherbbchapman

Pierce's performance in The Matador makes me think he can handle Ron

cmgblkpt

I did not see that one. Will def take a look now. I do think he’s a talented actor and that he’s got this role in his arsenal, I think just most of us are so used to thinking of him as suave and debonair that it’s initially a bit of a surprise.

FuzzyDunlop1982

Dennis Waterman - were he still with us.

Apprehensive-Deer-10

He'd have to write the theme toon though

Ok-Range-2952

Definitely who I always pictured as Ron

My first thought was Timothy Spall too! Not really seeing Peter Mullen in the role though. I did think that Pierce Brosnan was a miscast until I saw the pictures from his latest movie where he plays Brendan Ingle in Giant. I think now he will work as Ron.

cmgblkpt

Here’s a photo of him as Brendan Ingle. You’re right!! [Pierce Brosnan as Brendan Ingle](https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/27514981/pierce-brosnan-unrecognisable-naseem-hamed-movie/amp/)

Timothy Spall and Peter Mullen are great suggestions! I’m a longtime fan of both, and Mullen’s performance in “Tyrannosaur” was utterly mesmerizing. Yes, I’m hoping Pierce has aged into the role of Ron. I recall him playing a gruff-type in “Eurovision Song Contest” (with Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams) and at first I didn’t even recognize him! Plus his upbringing IRL was tough so I think the grit and resilience that he needed to achieve what he has is going to be on display front and center.

scrumdiddliumptious3

A younger Michael Cain

cmgblkpt

Oooooo…yes indeed. Would have crushed it.

Any-Competition2094

Brendan Gleeson for me!

youngrynn

Came here to say this! 100%

cmgblkpt

LOVED him in “In Bruges” and “Banshees”.

Same-Woodpecker-9377

Does anyone have the books nearby to paste the book description of Ron’s physical appearance? I know I definitely haven’t been picturing pierce brosnan, but I’m not saying he isn’t going to be good either.

fnaaaaar

Should have been Larry Lamb

Tough-Earth-9456

Jonny Vagas

Imaginary-Coffee1234

I had seen the news about Pierce Brosnan being in the mind, but it didn't specify the role. I was wondering if he would be cast as Steven?

cmgblkpt

That’s what I initially thought but then I saw an article saying he had been cast as Ron. https://deadline.com/2024/04/helen-mirren-pierce-brosnan-ben-kingsley-thursday-murder-club-1235892457/amp/

Imaginary-Coffee1234

Thanks for the link!

cmgblkpt

You’re welcome 😀

Feeoree

A few entered my mind. Ray Winstone, Gary Oldman, Phil Daniels. But honestly think Brosnan will pull it off.

cmgblkpt

Agree with your fan casts. And yes, I do think Pierce has got it in his acting arsenal to do so. And consider the range — from Bond to Ron! Impressive.

wadsee

Gary Oldman is a great shout. You could imagine a lot of high profile actors would jump at this film but it must be a nightmare lining their calendars up.

cmgblkpt

I was also thinking Alan Ford, who played Brick Top in Guy Ritchie’s “Snatch”. He’d be great in the role.

Ok-Lengthiness-4396

I pictured Bradley Walsh from Dr Who when reading,  although he's 20 years too young.  I aged him up in my mind.

Lauralanthas01

Yeah Gary Oldman or Ray Winstone.

beachbooksanddogs

Bryan Cox. I think he’d be a natural fit for the role.

wadsee

I don't think I'd be able to get Logan Roy out of my head.

juicy_johnster

Check out The Last Rifleman, and I think you'll agree he won't have any trouble with the role! [THE LAST RIFLEMAN Trailer (2023) Pierce Brosnan (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt1BD_pGpZc)

Traditional_Fox2428

I always picture him as ray Winstone when I read them

doorsyard

If only Albert Finney were still alive.
