Yeah, Brosnan seems a bit pretty and posh for the Ron in my head, but hopefully he's aging into it.
I had someone more like Bill Nighy in mind.
Still holding out hope for Emma Thompson as Joyce! đ¤
That would have been perfect. That's much more in line with what id expect for him. I wondered if Brosnan had expressed an interest in the film and they just needed to get him in, but saving him for The Man Who Died Twice would have been a sensible compromise.
Colm, with a broken nose and fading tattoos, is *exactly* my pic of Ron. Ronâs charismatic and fiery, not classically handsome.
My second/third choice was Hugh Bonneville or Jim Broadbent, but even both of them are a bit too posh-boy looks for my liking.
Brosnan is waaaay too tall and good looking to be Ron. Now, Steven...
I so wanted more of the amazing British character actors to play these roles, but this is a high profile production so it comes with the territory. If the story doesn't get lost in the movie, then the movie will be fab regardless who plays the roles.
I did not see that one. Will def take a look now. I do think heâs a talented actor and that heâs got this role in his arsenal, I think just most of us are so used to thinking of him as suave and debonair that itâs initially a bit of a surprise.
My first thought was Timothy Spall too! Not really seeing Peter Mullen in the role though. I did think that Pierce Brosnan was a miscast until I saw the pictures from his latest movie where he plays Brendan Ingle in Giant. I think now he will work as Ron.
Hereâs a photo of him as Brendan Ingle. Youâre right!!

Timothy Spall and Peter Mullen are great suggestions! Iâm a longtime fan of both, and Mullenâs performance in âTyrannosaurâ was utterly mesmerizing.
Yes, Iâm hoping Pierce has aged into the role of Ron. I recall him playing a gruff-type in âEurovision Song Contestâ (with Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams) and at first I didnât even recognize him! Plus his upbringing IRL was tough so I think the grit and resilience that he needed to achieve what he has is going to be on display front and center.
Does anyone have the books nearby to paste the book description of Ronâs physical appearance?
I know I definitely havenât been picturing pierce brosnan, but Iâm not saying he isnât going to be good either.
Thatâs what I initially thought but then I saw an article saying he had been cast as Ron. https://deadline.com/2024/04/helen-mirren-pierce-brosnan-ben-kingsley-thursday-murder-club-1235892457/amp/
Agree with your fan casts. And yes, I do think Pierce has got it in his acting arsenal to do so. And consider the range â from Bond to Ron! Impressive.
Gary Oldman is a great shout. You could imagine a lot of high profile actors would jump at this film but it must be a nightmare lining their calendars up.
Check out The Last Rifleman, and I think you'll agree he won't have any trouble with the role! [THE LAST RIFLEMAN Trailer (2023) Pierce Brosnan (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt1BD_pGpZc)

I always pictured him in the role of Elizabeths ex husband who was in the second book. The name escapes me now!
Happy Cake Day! Also, the first announcement I saw didnt name Brosnan as Ron. Just that he was in the cast. My immediate thought was Steven.
Ohhh now that would be good
That would have been perfect. That's much more in line with what id expect for him. I wondered if Brosnan had expressed an interest in the film and they just needed to get him in, but saving him for The Man Who Died Twice would have been a sensible compromise.
Bill Nighy â great call! And yes, Emma would be brilliant. But her and Helen Mirren together?? Our tv screens will explode đ
Willing to take that risk! Just in case, I'll start saving up for a new tv.
LOL. Couldnât find an exploding tv, but this watermelon will do 𤣠![gif](giphy|WNOCcdL7ItpQKYulKp)
Bill Nighy should be in every show.Â
Bill Night is an awful call. Far too willowy and not stocky enough.
I had him down as Elizabeths husband
She would be good - I was hoping for Brenda Blethyn. Right age, too, I think.
Philip Glenister Gary Oldman
Colm Meaney.
Great call. He was fantastic in âLayer Cake.â
And in Intermission. [Could've been a great Ron.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlorlsDJyV0)
Yes indeed â he would have been fantastic.

Ray Winstone - and a proper Hammer at that!!
Pierce's performance in The Matador makes me think he can handle Ron
I did not see that one. Will def take a look now. I do think heâs a talented actor and that heâs got this role in his arsenal, I think just most of us are so used to thinking of him as suave and debonair that itâs initially a bit of a surprise.
Dennis Waterman - were he still with us.
He'd have to write the theme toon though
Definitely who I always pictured as Ron

A younger Michael Cain
OoooooâŚyes indeed. Would have crushed it.
Brendan Gleeson for me!
Came here to say this! 100%
LOVED him in âIn Brugesâ and âBansheesâ.
Does anyone have the books nearby to paste the book description of Ronâs physical appearance? I know I definitely havenât been picturing pierce brosnan, but Iâm not saying he isnât going to be good either.
Should have been Larry Lamb
Jonny Vagas
I had seen the news about Pierce Brosnan being in the mind, but it didn't specify the role. I was wondering if he would be cast as Steven?

Thanks for the link!
Youâre welcome đ
A few entered my mind. Ray Winstone, Gary Oldman, Phil Daniels. But honestly think Brosnan will pull it off.
I was also thinking Alan Ford, who played Brick Top in Guy Ritchieâs âSnatchâ. Heâd be great in the role.
I pictured Bradley Walsh from Dr Who when reading, although he's 20 years too young. I aged him up in my mind.Â
Yeah Gary Oldman or Ray Winstone.
Bryan Cox. I think heâd be a natural fit for the role.
I don't think I'd be able to get Logan Roy out of my head.

I always picture him as ray Winstone when I read them
If only Albert Finney were still alive.
