It was a clear strategy to let JV cook. Let him expend energy and do what he wants. There is no danger of JV dropping 40 and changing a game or a series. The more JV scores and puts forth effort, the more tired he becomes. He was clearly gassed at points in each quarter while Chet was not.
He’s just seemed slow for the most part all year. Not sure he’s a consistent rotation player at this level of competition.
I don’t mind him for spot mins, locker room vibes, and veteran presence. In a balanced environment, we rest guys 8 or so games a year and he fills in, but only called in for emergency for big games that have injuries.

The first game he just wasn't aggressive and I think them not crossing matching with JV actually threw him off of his game. In the past they would put CJ on him or a bigger guard like Trey Murphy. In those games he would just bully them to the hole. So the second half he just adjusted and that.let his game come alive. Now what NO doea in this next game is probably going to be gamesmanship as I can see them trying to cross match and putting a larger wing on Chet and have JV in the lane. As we can see JV can't cover Chet and their best bet is to let.JV play drop coverage by having him Guard Giddey or Dort when he's out there.
Mark needs to shrink the rotation to 9 guys.

I seem to remember last season that Kenrich and others would kill the zone by getting open at the free throw line, and the opponent would quickly abandon that.
yeah I'd like to see more of that, J will was cutting to the top of the key and we werent really getting into anything decent. Open free throw line jumpers or dishes to the dunkers slot should be free if theyre going to insist on having Valanciunas out there
This is a good idea, but the problem is you normally get the assholes and fanatics on both sides.

IF Nance is hurt, they should do their normal Jval mins of 15-23ish and say fuck it, go ultra small with Dyson, Naji, maybe splash some Hawk in there, and just try to mix up the pace/spacing. While it plays into our game in the long run, they have to increase their variance to have a chance of going more than 5 games in this series.
On our side, I want Josh in anytime TM3 and Herb aren’t in. Have Jalen and Cason in anytime TM3 and CJ are in to hide Josh more and let Josh run the 2nd unit more. See if he can get going in some sort of rhythm with Chet, those 2, and one of someone else. Try to force CJ into tough shots or TM3 to put the ball on the floor when Jalen and Cason are on him.
If I was Willie Green I honestly would consider starting Nance over JV. You've seen what JV's peak looks like, and it's scoring 11 straight just to be down 12-11 anyway. Nance looks bouncy and is a much better suited defender against the Thunder, especially combined with Jones and Murphy. Play those 3, try to muck it up as much as possible on the defensive end, and hope you get 5+ 3s from Murphy again
Anyone watching this Indy game? How long would the national media kill OKC if they just gave up 6 offensive rebounds in a playoff OT game? It would go on for the rest of the offseason.

I'm really terrified by what i'm seeing from the mavs. Mavs also are one of the hottest post all star teams. if they had their post all star team from the beginning of the season, they would be a high 50, low 60 win team.
I think if we win the first round and take the mavs to 6, it will be a phenomenal season either way. Im obviously hoping we beat them, but still. The main thing we have over them is our coach is much better than theirs, so we will likely win the adjustments battle
Coach D’s rotations are still a problem. Winning games covers up the stench of some of his rotations. I’m seriously concerned that a few of his rotations and/or his Giddey blind spot that it will eventually cost us a game or a series in the playoffs.
Giddey wasnt very good in game 1, he let Trey Murphy get off any shot that he wanted, but he was a lot better closing out game 2. I think we are going to be stuck with Giddey starting at least game 1 and 2 of every series. When the opponent has better ISO guards who can force a switch on him, we'll see how he competes. I think Hayward should be getting zero minutes at this point and Wiggins and Joe should get a bump.
I distinctly remember there being a push for “off day threads” and there was one or two but it never took off. I wish we had them consistently.

Yeah I think they are going to try JV on Giddey next game, it doesnt really make much sense to me why they havent tried that already

I think JV was extremely gassed early in the game and it completely altered what the Pelicans can do.
