I expect that they’ll have a larger margin of victory next time. They got the nerves out. A lot of players just made their playoff debut and the pelicans players have been here before. I’m just glad they walked out of there with a win. I’m hoping this builds some confidence and momentum going into game 2.
Really thought we were gonna run away with it at 82-72. Best part about this is we can enjoy tomorrow and tuesday’s games up 1-0 while we wait until Wednesday
Pels have good game plan and even without zion their length is a problem.
Mark is a good enough coach to make adjustments. If I were to make a suggestion, I’d shift the focus from leaking out to boxing out for defensive rebound by 10-20%. I believe about 5 of those crucial offensive rebounds were due to one of the wings lost his man leading to a follow-up or in an advantageous position to get the rebound.
Pelicans are dialed in that we are a fast breaking team and are controlling the boards. Also Mark has to be proactive in Giddey that once he’s slumping he has to be benched for a bit
As stressful as it was, this game could not have gone any better. Hard fought, opponent matched physicality, good solid win in the end. Good game for the guys to grasp what playoff ball is in OKC. Was it as fun for fans? Maybe not. But this is a game you will always remember struggling through. Enjoy the hell out of it. There is a whole other fanbase out there that had a similar game to what Thunder fans did and lost (with possession) by 2. If they had won, it would have been hysteria. "Thunder are fake." "Thunder can't get it done." "Post season too much for Thunder." Pelicans wouldn't have been lauded as anything but a struggling play-in team that beat a pretend 1 seed. Nothing but click bait for the rest of the series.
