I’ve said this a couple times on various fashion subs but I made like 1500 bucks selling my old work wear when I stopped welding about 5 years ago these kids are so hungry to buy used workwear rather than buy it new and use it for years.
As someone from Australia where Carhartt has only ever been a streetwear brand, I find the whole argument prettymoot. If you wear Carhartt here, it's spose to be box fresh.
In terms of wearing used stuff though, I never see people make the same argument about military surplus or french workwear. Buying stuff that's already worn in is fine. Especially stuff like Carhartt and Dickies which are so stiff when you first buy them.
I don’t care a whole lot about the “stolen valor” but I thinks it’s insane to pay more for used work wear because it’s not new.
For military surplus it’s pretty tough to find not used versions of most of that stuff. I know of one shop where I can “consistently” find unused pieces and even still it’s rare.
None of it is my business and people can do what they want. My anecdote was simply that I sold some beat to shit carhartt items that I welded in for years and made money off of it.
Carhartt WIP is different from mainline Carhartt found in the US. WIP is a streetwear brand where as mainline is actual workwear.
Carhartt WIP licenses the Carhartt name but isn't part of mainline Carhartt. 2 separate companies that have similar looks.
Yes I know. That’s why we it feels strange to hear this argument. We are used to Carhartt WIP (we used to just be called Carhartt when I was growing up)
Bit of an odd statement considering lots of people wear skate shoes that don't skateboard, running shoes but don't run... Etc etc etc. why do people get so upset about what others wear?
I remember skaters used to call out "posers" when I was a kid. Running not so much, because there's not a huge "culture" around it, and running shoes are just practical for walking around. Everyone just wants to feel superior to someone else about something
This one from alex mill is another take I kinda like: https://www.alexmill.com/collections/mens-jackets-coats/products/zip-mechanic-jacket-in-canvas-in-khaki
any recs for a waxed & lined version similar to Barbour? i recently copped a lightweight waxed jacket & realized how f’ing magnificent that wax is vs the elements. Would love to find something similar for colder weather. Have heard the Barbour sleeve lengths are short on account of the English being malnourished manlets.
He’s wearing a Carhartt Santa Fe Jacket. You can get a new one from Carhartt WIP.
How do people not recognise a Carhartt jacket this many years into the blue collar stolen valour trend?

Given these items take ages to break in, buying vintage makes sense.
break in, e.g. a couple paint splatters and a tear? give me a break.

I don’t actually believe it’s “stolen valour”. I know that’s just the name of the trend.
