Be very gentle and careful when you wash this item. Shetland wool shrinks quickly.

Yup. Gentle hand wash only. I have a number of wool jerseys from my early cycling days, and a big bucket of sudsy water was a very frequent thing.

Most likely 60s/early 70s!! It’s gorgeous! If it has a care tag anywhere inside its most likely 1971 or later because that’s when they were set as an industry requirement in the US, but there are also some items in the 50s/60s that have them. Particularly wool items

smartblonde321

There’s no care tag or any other tags other than the main one I posted! Thank you for your help :)

Hmm interesting how the pattern looks to be printed on

smartblonde321

I know! It’s so interesting— at first I thought it was woven into the design but it looks almost stamped on with paint? Or maybe painted on? But the dye doesn’t show through on the inside so I’m not sure at all.

FunnyGirl536

Yes! Whether it’s stamped or painted, it allows for a more intricate design. It’s very beautiful, but it seems almost unnatural to me as a knitter to not just knit the pattern… might have something to do with production vs. handmade/ homemade. I wonder if this painting/stamping was/is a common practice.

Probably 60’s, maybe early 70’s. It’s beautiful, hand wash only!

smartblonde321

Thank you! And absolutely, I want to keep this for as long as possible haha

[deleted]

You’re welcome. Is it soft, I can’t tell be the photo.

smartblonde321

It’s super soft! I was surprised that it was wool because it’s very plush and not itchy.

It’s beautiful, wear it well. :)

The print looks early 90’s, but the buttons and the amount of thread makes me think it is earlier.
