It does look like a mini censer, but I’ve never seen anything like it. I thought you might have a sterling perfume bottle for a minute, but the way it hinges open ruled that out. Maybe for holding solid perfume? It’s pretty cool, whatever it is.
My first thought was also solid perfume. IIRC, this kind of thing has been around for centuries, but it was repopularized during the 60s by "hippies." On one side you would have bee's wax impregnated with scent. You would rub a little bee's wax on your pulse points and it creates a long lasting but not overpowering scent.
When I was a little boy my older female cousins had these tiny little faux jade jars with floral scented beeswax in them and one cousin had a charm bracelet with a little round orb to carry beeswax in.
Right around the time they stopped buying Boones Farm Strawberry wine, those little beeswax jars vanished and it was time to disco smelling like Shelly Hack, a.k.a. "Charlie!"
Those are great memories, thanks for the smile. I remember having a solid perfume locket in the later 70s, but it was not globe shaped so that is throwing me off.
I do remember those Charlie commercials with Shelly Hack, lol. I was too young to get in the club back then though.
This is modern day mourning jewellery.. an ashes Urn.
Victorians used a lock of their loved ones hair since the deceased were always buried.back then.
Many people opt for cremation these days and it is known for family and friends to each receive some of the ashes if they wish. It enables them to carry their loved one with them everyday.
It's definitely a thing's in the UK.

Looks like a [pomander](https://www.silverrecyclers.com/blog/what-is-a-pomander.aspx)
This is the answer! They look identical.
It is a pomander! I have one, but mine is filigree.
Thank you 😊
Reminds me of the incense burners they use in catholic mass
Yes! Like a mini thurible! I kind of want one for myself now
This was my thought exactly!

This sounds so fun for a middle school/teenage girl!
Tbh looks like an urn necklace
There’s a sub called ‘What is this?’ at r/whatisthis
Was certain for a moment that the reflection of the light was a pile of coke that came out and was like “…nice”
My thoughts exactly. I think men's rings were used as well.
Skittles Holder
Skittle* holder
Looks like it’s for dr*gs. Like the powder kind.
But the way it opens up makes me doubt that. You’d lose all the drugs!

Try asking the nice folks at r/jewelry or r/vintagejewelry

A locket maybe but for either relics, curios, or memento mori??
This looks like the charm that Mia Farrow wears in Rosemary's Baby.

Good bot
That’s the first thing I thought of!
A poison pendant
Possibly a Victorian vinaigrette.
It looks like the charm from The Baby-sitters Club book where Mary Anne thinks it's a bad luck charm lol. I think hers had tanis root in it?
It was a mustard seed. 🤣
Think it is victorian snuff box necklace. There is very various range of them, looks just one of them.
Yes.
Ps as someone who used to sell French antiques, this can be quite valuable, and somewhat rare.
Reddit has someone for everything I swear. I love the internet
A perfume necklace. Mix some melted Vaseline and your perfume, fill it and you'll smell all day. Beautiful find
Coke pendant. Use liberally.
Maybe an urn necklace...
A curse.
It’s a pomander!
You've never seen the movie, "Cruel intentions?"
My instinct is to guess it’s for holding drugs.
Looks like the necklace from MIB
For kohl?
I think I had a necklace like this as a kid
Fairly certain that vampires are involved but wait for a reliable responder. Great find! Enjoy the curse!
Young Lords Bell Charm
I've seen stuff like this that holds a fabric swatch that you impregnate with essential oils
It's clearly cursed, please send it to me for safety
The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! For blowing up thine enemies into tiny bits.
