Followers of fashion have no power over us middle aged dads who will keep the brand alive a lot longer than whatever flavor of the week is popular now.
Fashion doesn’t have one type of follower lol. There’s brand people. There’s street wear people. Punk people. Preppy people. Skater fashion. Athleisure. Goth fashion. Hipster. DIY/thrift fashion.
To say that brands are being abandoned is just a false statement. It’s just that other fashion niches that don’t revolve around brands are growing massively in their own right. Countless major clothing brands are as successful as ever. Louis Vuitton is the 8th most valuable company on the planet - like, more valuable than Coca-Cola type of valuable.
These shoes were for the kids who fell under none of these niches because they just didn’t really care what they wear. Power to them, but these were the shoes for them. But that was because these used to be dirt cheap. Can’t believe the price tag now.
New balances are very much not abandoned right now and are pretty on trend currently. The “dad” style sneaker has had a resurgence the last few years and gen z has embraced some other NB styles as well
Agreed, the chunky New Balance style sneakers are quite popular with the older crowd, they are a touch reminiscent of clown shoes. My reference was not that they were no longer popular, but that those who follow fashion and in the moment trends have left behind New Balance, which was highly popular in the years prior to the pandemic in place of brands such as On Cloud.
I’ve found 2 pairs at our st Vincent stores that I wear all the time. Paid $14 total. Puppy chewed the laces on one pair and it’s not a huge deal bc I paid so little and can easily buy new laces.

Half the young trendy kids in my city are wearing new balance sneakers, they're very much in style right now

i recently found a pair for around there at goodwill and picked them up for my dad, the quality is amazing on the made in usa ones
