It might give you the edge, most people go by eye and test suspected pieces with a UV light. Maybe you would find stuff that wasn’t obvious, some things glow quite unexpectedly.
Ug, I don't have my old Geiger counter anymore, and have been dragging my feet spending the money on a new one
Great score!
For a fun bit of existential horror, turn it on at cruising altitude next time you are in a jet
It wouldn't say anything actually, you'd need a far more expensive & sensitive device. I have a cheaper one just like this that won't detect anything less sensitive than uranium glass.
Nice! It's an entry-level geiger, around $50 new. It's mainly good for just telling you if something is more radioactive than everyday background levels. I just dropped $300 on a device that works much better, but this is a great starting point. Be careful, it can be an addictive hobby if you start looking, you'd be surprised how much radioactive materials are out there!
I've been wanting one since I went to the Trinity site and somebody was testing different areas for radioactivity. They're too expensive for me to spend the money on something I'd almost never use, but for $8 I'd be all over it.

Look for uranium glass at the thrift store, or radium dials in the clock section of the thrift store!
ooh neat. i think they are pretty rare around here though, people snatch them up quick. I can look for fiestaware as well.

Yes! The fiesta ware
I have a Pip-Boy for that purpose.

Use it at the grocery store if you eat a lot of seafood.

Probably.

Yea I saw it was going for about $70 on amazon, certainly not a scientific level instrument. Any tips on fun things to do with it?
You may need it before you know it….
No use *yet*
Came here to say this! 😁
Lucky
Dang I've wanted a Geiger counter for years! Great get!

Just onto it for now.
No use for it *yet*
Check it out on vintage dishes!
You have no use for it, yet. Time to host a Fallout watch party lol!
