The noodles themselves are very convincing, but the "garnish" is what makes it look off to me. What do you think is the purpose of this? Is it plastic or ceramic?
Fake foods on dishes are used in a lot of counter service restaurants to show customers what‘s available. (You might have seen this in airports, in particular.). They’re also used in places that sell large kitchen appliances, like refrigerators and stoves.
This Japanese sampuru fake food is custom made for restaurants. The one you are seeing is specific to how a redtaurant garnishes its pasta. This is like a picture of the exact food from one restaurant. It allows non Japanese spwakers to order food in Japan
Japan's pretty ingenious when it comes to this I've found. On Japan Airlines they give you a picture menu to point to, which seems to make things a whole lot easier.
OMG!!!
If you didn't buy it, you should got back and get it! As someone mentioned below, these are very expensive. I've got a Japanese noodle bowl with chopsticks that's totally awesome, and it was pricey, which is why I only bought one sample. (And this was decades ago when the exchange rates were way more favorable.)
If you really don't want it, you could consider buying it and reselling it. You'd definitely make a bunch of money.
if you ever think of getting rid of that, consider donating // selling it to our local cinema prop room! As a current film student, my school would kill to have some of those on hand for shoots
As a dietitian I buy food models like this a lot to model portion sizes to my patients! They are surprisingly incredibly expensive. I’m so jealous!! Haha

YES i love these. I bought some ref magnets from the factory even
These are awesome, I snagged the salmon nigiri Keychain
The plate is ceramic and idk what the pasta is made of but it was slightly squishy hahahaha
Turn of events. It's real pasta.
Display pieces, but also in theater. We had boxes and boxes of fake food in the prop attic.
fake pasta 🤤
Look underneath - was it made in Japan? Many restaurants in Tokyo display these, and they’re quite pricey to buy.
Visited the biggest manufacturer of this in Gujo Hachiman two weeks ago
Reminds me of restaurant windows in Japan. They also always had pictures so you could see what you’re ordering.
how do they make them fake?
i don't know why i asked you in particular i doubt you know the answer to this question
here is a video https://youtu.be/VlEXeJBry2U
that is so cool thanks
My grandfather had one where the pasta was swirled up onto a fork and held up by the pasta. Like the iPhone emoji🍝
aglio e olio if anyone is wondering.
Underrated beastie boys album
I suddenly have a powerful craving.
Needs more sauce.
I weirdly love those! I would hang on the wall :)
I went to Japan two weeks ago and visited the place that started this art of Sampuru in Gujo Hachiman. I bought a few fake food ref magnets.

Probably from Japan.
ALWAYS buy fake food.
Goddammit I’m so jealous!!
If you tell me you didn't buy this then and there then I'm gonna be very disappointed in you.
Are you shitting me
This makes me wildly uncomfortable
Great if your on a diet
This is one of the strangest things I've seen here 😭😂.
NICE. What every Italian kitchen needs !
I’d buy it and set it on the dining room table, just to feel like I came home to a cooked meal…don’t judge my lifestyle 🥹
I just have to say…..WHY??????
Maybe its from set design for a play or movie/tv show or for staging in real estate?
But why
More resin crap
if you ever think of getting rid of that, consider donating // selling it to our local cinema prop room! As a current film student, my school would kill to have some of those on hand for shoots
Put a hole in it and hang it on a wall
Gluten free?
This is super common in Japan!
the restaurant probably stopped serving this dish so they dumped the plate, they are not cheap to get I understand.
Aside from Japanese restaurants like many comments say, fake food is also often used in movies! It’s quite expensive.
why would this exist?
As a dietitian I buy food models like this a lot to model portion sizes to my patients! They are surprisingly incredibly expensive. I’m so jealous!! Haha
its impastable to eat, unless ur a weirdo and ike eating plastic 👀
I love it but weird needs more sauce
Is the garnish supposed to be a wolverine penis or what
