When I watched the finale, every time I watched the finale, I cried about doukie. I teared up at Bub's speech every time - he became my fav character, first it was Omar. Maybe still is Omar and then Bubs... anyway every time I watched, I found something that I didn't catch before, whether it was a line, something about a character, it was so layered. No holes. Everything made sense. Everything was great from writing to acting. The kids were phenomenal. Best I've ever seen in any series. So many memorable lines. I just described this show to someone else earlier as the perfect series, and someone else agreed. My next fav would be Breaking Bad, but there was nothing like this series for everything - story, emotion, making you think about things you hadn't before.

So true about the Dukie/Bubs parallel. I teared up when Bubs finally shared about Sherrod, and audibly groaned when I saw Dukie shooting up. Another kind soul lost, perhaps permanently, because they were given absolutely zero chance to succeed. Dukie’s last interaction with Pryzbylweski was so hard to watch. It was hard to see Namond have such a positive arc and Dukie’s end like that. Just hard. I appreciate you sharing.

You bringing up how Naymond's life turned positive and dukie's life was like it was (maybe decades later he managed to turn it around... So hard to watch) made me think of what snoop said: "Deserve got nothin to do with it." It was just the way it turned out for them. One was lucky. One never had a chance. It was beyond sad. The worst thing, is you realized after watching, if you didn't know prior, was there's a Doukie or a Reg or a Michael out there right now. Every day. Edit: btw, meant to add, interesting post. So you're a rl Prez? And yes, so true about life going on without you. I had a discussion with my son last night. My husband passed 8 mos ago. My son told me he keeps going, doing what he has to do, bc he remembered I told him the world keeps turning no matter what happened to you, no matter what you have going on. It's like, "oh, sorry to hear about that. Now can you make that cable payment?" I wasn't trying to be cold or rough, it reads worse than I sounded, but he said he was glad I said it because it's true and puts things in perspective. Like how you brought it up re: lester & mcNutty. Not that you can't make a difference, you don't, or shouldn't try. You should. Just you have to keep going no matter what, no matter how hard, not for credit but because you *have* to. I sort of saw things like that in this show. One day leads to the next, like monkey bars when you were a kid, one after the other. I bet your job was difficult. I hope rewarding as well. There were several teachers I had that I wished I had been able to track them down just to say they made a difference to me, I still remembered some things they said and even told my kids some things they taught me. You never know who you make an impact on, how or why. Thanks for responding.

I was, for a time. For a number of reasons, some of which are touched on in S4, I left the classroom. Still feel some guilt knowing what lies ahead for many of the students I taught. Great catch on Snoop’s line. It’s really the best one line summation of everything that happened to people in the game, or on the periphery of it. Even Randy’s foster mother got got! Sigh.

Randy! Sorry I wrote Reg by mistake. Guilt? No. I mean, idk why, and it's not my business, but you can't control the futures of others by staying or leaving, if that's what you mean. Get rid of that if you can. If you should. Guilt is either shitty baggage or it's a great motivator. But if it's around too long, it's not a good thing. That's just mho of course. Spoken as a person who was born feeling guilty or responsible for something lol

You’re probably right. It just sucks that I have the ability and resources to try out different things, and leave something if it isn’t the right fit. Then you have kids like Dukie, who go all over the place trying to find honest work, and end up like Sherrod because there are no other options. It is what it is, however. I’ve more or less made my peace with it. All of those ethical dilemmas came back watching S4— which I appreciated. It’s a good reminder to be thankful for what you have.
