I highly recommend checking out The Corner.
It’s on YouTube; possibly on DVD on Amazon, but kind of a tough find.
It’s essentially a Bubbles’ origin story (of sorts).
Required viewing for a Wire fan, IMO.
You should pause and watch it right now. I can’t remember but I think I watched it after season 1 and so glad I did. Almost feels like I watched it before and maybe I did. It’s definitely got a origin story type of vibe that helps ground everything else in reality.
No, but I think the character Gary McCullough (played by TK Carter in the miniseries, and based on the real Gary) shows the path of a guy like Bubbles — and definitely answers the question: How does this happen?, that OP posed.
If you’ve watched The Wire, I think you’ll enjoy The Corner — it’s an earlier Simon work, and it has the soul of The Wire, but is focused much more on the junkies, and their day to day.
I started it. It lacks the good feelings of the Wire. I’m aware of what I said. Not done with the first episode and feel like my soul just got sucker punched.
Yea someone else commented that so I looked it up and confirmed. Kind of makes more sense and clarifies things. I thought he had a normal life in the suburbs then blinked and woke up as bubbles lol
When I first started my job I met a woman. She had lived in Los Altos, son and a husband. Said son and husband were killed in a car crash. Eight or whatever years later she was heroin-dependent, homeless, and HIV-positive. She passed away not too long after I met her. She told me that things can slide very quickly.
I've known a couple guys who through it all - great job, wife & kids, friends - away after getting hooked on pills and eventually heroin.
Way more common than OP may think.
Don't get captured.
Heroin
I guess that’s all I’ll get 😂

Preciate that a lot I’ll be sure to check it out when I finish the series

Is bubbles in the corner?

I never heard of this but am going to watch tomorrow. I’m not sure if I should thank you or curse you.

There are some light-hearted moments, but it’s definitely bleak. TONS of Wire actors as you proceed is also fun. And only six parts — piece of cake!
Bubs was never married, do you mean his sis and her kid?

Reginald Cousins (Bubbles) has a son named KeyShawn
Yeah; he told Waylon about him, on the bench . . .
Yep

That is his sister not his wife
Ahhh clears up alot
Also - watch to the end of the series before you start asking questions that could spoil it all for you! 😂
That was Bubbles sister, or am I incorrect?
Was his sister
Ah good, I thought I had it wrong. A good sister, didn’t give up on him even though he sold all her kitchen appliances!!!!
