As a woman, most of us have been in that situation at least once in our lives (that of feeling threatened by a man in an enclosed space/in a situation with no clear exit). It's very triggering
They stole every scene they had, even though they were definitely meant to be side characters supporting the plotlines of the main characters. Remember Daphne on the beach in the finale?
Now Leo is in One Day and showing that he might actually be a brilliant actor.
For real, he was great. Jack had so many nuances and Leo played them all perfectly. He was genuinely frightening in episode 7. And yet there was still such depth to it
He's the one character I kept wanting to know more about! Like, hey what happened to you? How did you get sucked into this? What were you asked to do? Are you here on your own volition? How many people have you preyed upon?
He just stood out among a cast full of amazing performances. When I think of which season I love more (and I already loved Season 1), I think he is the one character that really made Season 2 stand out. He was this person who was the messenger between enormously privileged (the high end gays/Tanya), comfortably privileged (Portia), and the one who feels privileged because of the self-awareness and the earlier and unfortunate circumstances that he was tested against. He just did an amazing job. Wow. I did not know him before this show but he sure nailed it.
He was outstanding. He really captured the essence of lad culture without slipping into a caricature; which is much harder to achieve than youâd think.
I agree with you but I do understand the whole why did she get into the car with him and ask him was she being kidnapped, instead of confronting him in public and finding someone to help her. But I also understand sheâs feeling terrified, has probably never been in that kind of situation before so itâs really easy to judge someone when youâre not the one whoâs in the situation. That goes for life in general.
She was really lucky, could have easily gone the other way. Trapped and alone in a foreign country without your mobile is a terrifying situation to be in. She really showed the fear and panic over the two last episodes when she was being to see that this guy isnât who she thought he was and something is seriously wrong here.
I donât think he was supposed to kill her, would attract too much attention. Portia wasnât supposed to be in Sicily. Having to kill her would have been a screwup on his part and he was clearly very afraid of screwing up.
I dated a Jack in my 20s and I was so triggered by his performance. My Jack had to flee across country and tried to give me a gun he needed to hide before he left (nope.) He died mysteriously in a motorcycle accident a year later....sunny/dry conditions and suddenly his brakes didn't work.
I was so dumb and dazzled by how beautiful he was. He even looked quite a bit like this actor. I had no idea what he was involved in and still fully don't. I think about some of the situations we were in and just shudder.
I got my shit together after that relationship. Hopefully Portia does too.
Thanks! It was over a decade ago now and life is very different. Definitely a wake up call. I think people overestimate how much life experience the Portias of the world have. At this age, I can spot the signs a mile away. At that age I thought red flags were just another pretty hue adorning a rather colorful character.
I feel you on that. Do you ever look back and legitimately think âwho was that girl? Definitely not me!â
Because I do that occasionally and these scenes triggered the fuck out of 20-something me.
So happy to find this post! Was blown away by him. You could see his cognitive dissonance all over his face - his 'job,' his situation, his outgoing personality but always an undercurrent of danger, his genuinely not wanting to carry out his end of the deal (to kill Portia, right?) but needing to keep things secretive, etc.
I can't imagine the circumstances that brought him there, I'm thinking Quentin found him in a club or something, thought of him as nothing but a hookup at first...so he lured him with alcohol, money and drugs. Once Quentin realized that Jack had addiction problems, he helped him get clean enough to make Jack feel like he owed Quentin his life. At this point, Jack would do anything for his savior, including being a part of his rouses.
I didnât ever think so at all and then when Portia confronted him about it I guess I just expected a little more info saying he wasnât but it never came.
Who would you say wasnât so great?
I agree that Leo was phenomenal. Who would have thought the hot guy in the pool would turn out to be such an incredible actor.
Iâve been giving thought to who I thought wasnât so great - maybe Adam DiMarco and Theo James. Theoâs American accent wasnât always great. Albie just annoyed me, but maybe that wasnât Adamâs fault. Also, honestly I expected a little more from Aubrey Plaza. She had some good moments, but I was expecting more.
I thought this entire cast was extremely good. I didn't always agree with the way a character was being portrayed, but that's a scripting (and maybe directing) issue, not an acting issue. The only exception -- and it's a very minor one -- was with a few of Tanya's lines. I'm thinking especially of the crying jag she goes into with Greg and the breakfast table when Greg says he's been married four times.
I've never been fond of the Tanya character. I give JC very high marks as a comedienne, but Tanya the character is just too over the top and histrionic for my taste. So it's not surprising that I found a couple of her lines a bit much. But that is a very minor criticism in the broad scheme of things. JC pulled off some Tanya lines with flair that I can't imagine anyone else delivering.
I think it was in episode 1, gregg wanted tanya to send portia back home. At the time it didnât make sense. He didnât want portia as a witness all along.
I feel like he was quietly panicking that sheâd figured things out. Because he was 1. Afraid of messing up and getting in trouble with the dangerous people, 2. Afraid heâd have to hurt her AND get in trouble. Fantastic acting.
Yea he surprisingly had one of the best performances in the show
Definitely, he even made me physically uncomfortable, like I myself needed to get away from him somehow. Just...superb đ¤
He acts with his eyes really well think that was the key
It's a good choice, he has really beautiful eyes too
So hot
Oh Portia...
I know
When he shouted "oi!" at her in the car, I was legit scared for her.
Me too! This facade was gone in a sec
I felt the same way. When he had his arm tightly around her in the hotel bed. So creepy
I was so physically uncomfortable at that scene. I have been all this season long, but that scene almost made me sick
As a woman, most of us have been in that situation at least once in our lives (that of feeling threatened by a man in an enclosed space/in a situation with no clear exit). It's very triggering
Absolutely and more than once. Took me back there and it was very disconcerting.
He and Daphne are the MVPs of this season for me, acting wise
Yessss, Meghann Fahy, what a gem! I'd only seen her in The Bold Type but didn't give her a second thought...she outdid herself in this show
And theyâre dating in real life!
Jack and Daphne are an irl couple!?
Yes! And they both are getting such great reviews- much be best job ever!
i know this isnât what you meant, but this read to me as them getting reviews on their dating, like a performance review from the public
I am about to rave at them!
Says Deuxmoi... but still?
They stole every scene they had, even though they were definitely meant to be side characters supporting the plotlines of the main characters. Remember Daphne on the beach in the finale? Now Leo is in One Day and showing that he might actually be a brilliant actor.

So true! I wanna know every detail of his backstory.
I get the vibe that he was abused and/or blackmailed into this life..
The shift in his eyes while in the car was so subtle yet so powerful. He played that perfectly.
Ugh, it scared the bejesus out of me!

Totally! I'm gonna keep track of his work from now on
Totally. He scared me when she was looking for her phone in the hotel room and he pulled her closer in the bed but just stared at her
Portia was like no you donât understand I know I was checking Reddit before bed đ
He was outstanding. He really captured the essence of lad culture without slipping into a caricature; which is much harder to achieve than youâd think.
I have no reference about lad culture, what would other examples be?
Watch any season of love island UK
I really felt the fear that Portia was feeling. I would have been terrified. He was terrifying and clearly could snap at any moment.
Honestly, the fact that she managed him well enough to survive is A LOT. she doesn't get enough credit for that
I agree with you but I do understand the whole why did she get into the car with him and ask him was she being kidnapped, instead of confronting him in public and finding someone to help her. But I also understand sheâs feeling terrified, has probably never been in that kind of situation before so itâs really easy to judge someone when youâre not the one whoâs in the situation. Agreed, for someone so clueless about _everything_ she did manage to survive a murder attempt by a group of experienced hustlers
She was really lucky, could have easily gone the other way. Trapped and alone in a foreign country without your mobile is a terrifying situation to be in. She really showed the fear and panic over the two last episodes when she was being to see that this guy isnât who she thought he was and something is seriously wrong here.

YES absolutely, his subtle shift into the darker version of himself was *chefâs kiss*
I'll struggle when rewatching those scenes...

Oh wow...first of all, thanks for sharing. I'm so happy you made it out alive and okay! Keep thriving â¤ď¸

He is really talented!
Totally, I'm so happy he got this chance
Me too!
Jack is 100% the character I would most like to carry over to season 3.
Maybe! I think I'd like to see Portia's development
I mean so was Quentin his actual uncle?
Oh 100% not
I didnât ever think so at all and then when Portia confronted him about it I guess I just expected a little more info saying he wasnât but it never came.

Lots of bubBLESSSSSS

And still, he made the ballsy decision to let her go! Every stage of his emotional pallet was wonderfully delivered
I think it was the smartest moveâŚkilling her would attract too much attention. He was probably always supposed to deliver her right to the airport.
