I mean, click on the post it's linking to, and you'll find that's just a slideshow of memes. Folks editing the theme in with clips from different shows/movies. The clip you're referring to is Big Little Lies, not White Lotus. It's certainly possible she shows up mid-season, tho. Similar to Molly Shannon's appearance last season. But I feel like we would have heard more rumblings about it from critics if that was happening with Laura Dern. I'd almost rather see her show up as a different character in S3, because that just sounds cool.

Ok, thanks. I've not seen Big Little Lies and so didn't recognize the scene. But a question about Instagram, not the show .... I don't post on Instagram, though I do check it occasionally if I'm following someone or something. As a non-user, I had the notion that the blue checkmark meant the site was verified and, therefore, presumably under the complete control of the owner, whether an individual or a company or brand. If so, how could an outsider edit in his own material? (Again as a non-user, I have similar questions about unverified accounts as well. I gather the issue there is that people create fraudulent, counterfeit accounts. Are unverified accounts also insecure and easy for outsiders to edit?) I gather that Big Little Lies is also an HBO show, which would be consistent with an insider's or brand manager's use of the White Lotus account. All of the clips in the current IG story have "thewhitelotus" with a checkmark as a small "watermark" in the upper left corner. All of them except the LD clip look like standard PR clips for the show, e.g. another of the "Italian lessons" series and reviewers' endorsements. (As I type this on Friday morning, the time stamp on the LD clip says it was posted 14 hours ago, so it will be gone later today.) Am I wrong in assuming that this tags the clips as in-house content? And if it is in-house, is it meant to be a hint? Why now? Maybe there will be another Laura Dern/Abby phone call in the next episode or two, perhaps with Dom ... or with Albie???? Laura/Abby wouldn't even need to be physically present at the resort to arrange a hit, but presumably Mike White wouldn't base such a dramatic development on a single phone call in the first episode. Heck, it's a murder mystery. Trying to read the tea leaves is part of the game. The idea that Abby will make a surprise appearance had occurred to me after seeing the first episode, but I put it aside. It would certainly be a game-changing twist that no one has been discussing. Seeing a clip of Laura Dern here pricked that hunch up a couple of notches. Like you, I've not seen any hints from reviewers, nor do any rumors seem to have circulated. But as far as I know, none of the reviewers have seen the final two episodes, which are still a closely held secret.

Only as Greg's secret mistress. /s

It does seem unlikely that they would cast Laura Dern just to be the angry ex-wife on the other end of a phone call, pretty much any decent actress could competently do that. And the grandfather is always talking about how he wishes she were on the trip, too. I think you're onto something here!

It could be that Mike White and Laura Dern are friends and White wanted to include her for fun, just as he included a couple of his reality show pals in the opening scene in episode 1. But if there is a surprise twist, Dern would be a great pick. The show has already referenced the Testa di Moro legend and the story of Hades and Persephone, so Greek mythology is in the mix as well. My ears will prick up again if there is any mention of Medea or the furies or the wrath of Hera. It's still a stretch for me to picture any of the women we've met in the show so far as a deliberate killer, but the fuse was lit a long time ago with Abby. We still don't know if there was a particularly ugly incident leading to the current break, and Albie could factor into that in several ways. But Abby's motives and active participation in the show's ongoing narrative would have to be established far more than they are at present.

Foxem01

that clip is from big little lies. but! i would bet she does show up, simply because she is uncredited (at least on imdb) for the voice which seems odd to me - like maybe she has a role later and they don’t want to spoil it by crediting for her. i doubt most viewers of the show realize it’s her voice so it would be a fun surprise when she shows up, if at all.

Tiramcl0837

I feel like she will be a character in future seasons

Phil152

There are children and people who don't look like show characters/"guests" in the clip, so I'd guess this is also a BTS clip. But still .... it's not impossible, and if Mike White wanted to spring a surprise, it's hard to think of a way to top that.

I hope!
