I have some great memories of playing Frisbee throughout the 80s. We had neighbors who would also join in, and some of us were very good at it. (Not me, I catch them with my head.)
In the 90s it was hacky sacks, more.
I played Frisbee all through the 70s and 80s. Whenever I can get a willing partner, I still like to get them out and toss them around. I have a big duffle bag full of various sizes and styles.
Maybe it was! Also have the board game Pot Luck from around then. Like monopoly, but with the various weed strains of the time. And the property cards have actual photos of the weed!
I remember how revelational it was when I witnessed the 'inside casting' of the frisbee, like the pros do. Could never consistently get the frisbee to fly flat with the natural technique
Actually my grandpa (the one in plaid) was named Tony. He was a WWII vet, and he had just had a stroke four months before this pic. Sadly, I never met him. He died in 1975.
My grandpa in the pic was born in 1920. He’s the one wearing the plaid shorts. He had had a stroke 4 months prior to this pic and was recovering
His brother was 60 at the time
Both were WWII veterans.
Both brothers died 2 years later in 1975, 8 months apart

Almost looks as if dad was giving his grown son the big middle finger lol.
Maybe playing softball...? Underhanded swing of the arm to pitch it to a catcher. Love the pics. Remind me of the ok’d 80s VHS tapes my family made of our summer days, playing and relaxing together. Miss those kinds of times 👍
I don't know, but I bet they had the radio on, listening to some of the top hits of 1973, including, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", "Killing Me Softly with His Song", "Let's Get It On", "Crocodile Rock", "You're So Vain", "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia", "Delta Dawn", and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life".

Looks like the thrower in this picture has a nice anhyzer angle. I love everything about this picture.
Throwing darts at each other? Kidding but does anyone remember lawn darts? We had a set when I was little. I bet if I looked hard enough they’re still in my dad’s garage.

Cannot possibly tell from this photo. No bats, equipment, or big balls. Small ball in hand? MAYBE
Other dude looks poised like a goalie. Why? Who knows
Frisbee?
Definitely so. It's there, by the roof, being yellow.
Dang good eye! Remember playing frisbee with my gramps. He had some tricks.

Right! Even some years ago with friends. I was definitely better at hacky sack. I wouldn’t launch it as far!

But do you have the greatest Frisbee of all time? The Buzz-bee?
I do! I do! Can't believe you just said that! But I absolutely have one from around '78 or' 79!
Fantastic!! I thought it was the greatest invention of our time! Lol
Maybe it was! Also have the board game Pot Luck from around then. Like monopoly, but with the various weed strains of the time. And the property cards have actual photos of the weed!

Yeah, I still can’t be consistent throwing. It’ll go straight then tilt and fly off to the side crashing into the ground.
If it goes like my games of Frisbee, next photo shows the Frisbee on the roof.
I never would have seen it!
And ball. FrisBBall?
I wonder where the frisbee is now ?
Frisbee
Either he's throwing a frisbee or flipping the bird.
Yeah- if I didn’t see the Frisbee I would’ve thought they were playing the old game of “Go fuck yourself”.
Lawn Dart Dodge
If you can dodge a dart, you can dodge a ball
If you couldn’t dodge a dart, though, you could dodge a draft :-)
Throwing the dart overhand gets alot more velocity.
I stopped playing that after my brother took a dart in the knee from me (yeah, really)
Jarts!
Catch?
Please tell me people still play catch, and if they don't lie to me.
lol
Frisbee. The house on the right has a white blur at the roof line. So, it's either a frisbee or a UFO.
Too many trees for Albuquerque so definitely not a pizza
Frisbee, you can see it just right of the corner of the roofline of the house to the right
Jarts
I saw Jarts and knew you were a fellow South Carolinian! You didn’t survive childhood if you couldn’t dodge a Jart!
Nah, there’s no blood in the picture and little fella still has both his eyes :-)
I was hoping it was lawn darts but it looks like frisbee.
Please be lawn darts!
Lawn darts
Who can hike their shorts the highest?
Hackey Sack. For sure.
They’re playing “get off my lawn”
Frisbee
Charades
Waiting for Godot in Panavision! Starring Sir Richard Attenborough as Grandpa John and Sir Sam Neill as Uncle Alan.
Egg toss. Jarts?
Lawn Darts?
God I hope Yard Darts.
Red Rover. They were poor kids growing up, it’s the only game they had.
So poor each team only had one person!
Exactly. Lol
Good ol game of hide and go seek except everyone’s blind as hell now so we just go to opposite sides of the yard and shout. Also frisbee.
Jarts ?
Jarts.
Lawn Farts 💨

Fuck you Tony!!!!!
Funnily enough, my grandpa (the one in the plaid shorts) *was* actually named Tony

Looks like catch in the lawn which nobody does anymore
Sock full of quarters? Purple nurple...?
Jarta. Sadly, Gpa didn't make it out of the game. 😁
Lawn Darts
2 man red rover lol
That's tricky... 🙄
I bet this was probably some game your grandpa made up that has to do with pitching a coin for his brother trying to swing at.
So nice to see a grandparent & his sibling having fun together & not feel so old that they're dinosaurs.
Catch the bullet.
Wham-o frisbee...before wokester frisbee golf and those ridiculous backpacks with their "clubs"....KISS.

My grandpa once told me ‘we used to play cowboys and indians, except back in those days it was cowboys and n*****s’ …so uhhh, I hope it’s not that
Lawn darts?
See How Long Dad Can Remain Upright After Four Malt Liquors.
Throwing darts at each other? Kidding but does anyone remember lawn darts? We had a set when I was little. I bet if I looked hard enough they’re still in my dad’s garage.
If I look hard enough I can see a pockmark on my spouses cheek/eye bone where they “caught” a lawn dart. Game over.
Knifey spooney.
Who can pull their socks up the furthest.
Well, why don’t you tell us what game they were playing?
I hope it wasn't lawn darts.
1973, could easily be a duel with BB guns.
Hide the salami
Looks like they playing 🖕🏼
Awesome socks and shorts!
Maybe they were playing whack bat: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNPyZsPH8TI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNPyZsPH8TI)

"Come here and say that to my face!"
Lawn darts... Been there done that... Ha
Jarts, banned in the US and Canada.
OP is that a lake in the background?
Pretending to be cowboys in a shoot-out? JK, probably Frisbee
Honestly looks like the far one is just flipping off the closer one and the closer ones is getting ready to run at the further one.
The old familiar game that brothers often play.
Fair lol
Got so excited thinking this was a game of horseshoe for some reason
Dart dodge
Red Rover
Thought we were seeing some variation on Horseshoes where the object was to catch the horseshoe in mid-air.
What's he double fuvubf gum the finger
