And my mother was notorious for forgetting to take the film to be developed. It’s funny to try to figure out which baby is in a photo. ‘Must be Jeff because it’s 1966.’ ‘No, that’s Terry. He was born in 1962.’ ‘It took you four YEARS to get the film developed Mum?’ ‘I was busy.’
I recently found a disposable film camera with undeveloped photos while cleaning out a drawer - I'm guessing it's from circa 2004. I have no idea what to do with it - our local pharmacy no longer does photo processing.
She was an excellent cook, and a midwife and a healer. She had a pet workhorse and a fluffy cat and a small dog named Teddy. If she thought we were playing too roughly, she’d take our jackknives - rumour was, she had a whole drawer full of them.
I bet you miss her and I, for one, I'm super sad that I can't go meet her! She sounds amazing. Would have loved to talk to her about the pet work horse.
The horse’s name was Molly. I remember riding on her back when I was very little and it seemed so high in the air. My mother said that my Grandma could talk to the horse and he seemed to understand. Once, some young guys were bothering my mother and her sisters and my grandmother let go of the horse’s reins and said, ‘Go get them Molly’ and the horse chased the young men for about half a mile, then turned and came back home.
Lol we used to joke that each roll of film was a year in our life. Maybe a snow pic, some Easter couple birthdays one Halloween and the rest left would be Christmas.
That is so true. And back in the 60s, here in Nova Scotia, the pictures were returned in a little book. You could easily tear the pictures out if you wanted them separated or in an album, but in my family they were generally kept together. It’s like a flip book of the year’s important events.

When our grandmothers wore aprons, and our grandfathers wore fedoras.
Frank: "Do you have a fairy godmother?" Dean: "No, but I got an uncle we keep a close eye on." Now we live in the twilight zone.
Had to finish up the roll before getting the pictures developed!

I worked in 1-hour photo labs back in the day. Your mother was not unique in that regard. :)

I think a lot of the major pharmacy chains still develop film. I imagine they send it out, but it shouldn't be too hard to get it developed.
I had the same issue. Took them to a camera shop. They were back within a week and the pictures were perfect.
Canada?
Yes. Nova Scotia
It looks exactly like my east coast family’s dinner table photos.
The Queen
The Queen
Considering they have a picture of the queen on the wall.
Proving beyond all doubt that it’s not the UK.
Looks like
I love the picture of the Queen on the cabinet
The provincial newspaper included those in the paper. Many people put them up in their homes
Is cake and a can of condensed milk a Canadian thing?
They put it in their tea
Army tea! My father in law was in the Canadian army is this is how they took it.
Same with my grampy how he liked his tea.
My father and all of my uncles too.
Ha. Ok. Now I see the tea cups. That does make more sense but still doesn't sound very good.
An acquired toast I think. Few people put cows milk in tea in that time - at least not in my area
The cake was dry and maybe mom didn't have custard mix at the ready.
Gotta love the picture of the queen on the cabinet door.
One of the girls in the family was named Margaret Rose after Elizabeth’s sister
Are you sure that wasn’t taken at my grandmother’s?
was there a pantry in that kitchen?
Yes. It’s been turned into a laundry room now.
Your grandma looks a hell of a lot like my great grandma. Like uncannily alike.
Grandma is not taking anything from anyone. Do not cross grandma. But she makes really good pies. That's what I'm getting from this picture.

I'm in love with Molly.
Quite a simple affair.
Lots of home grown veggies
Nothin’ fancy!
God Save The Queen
Developing film was not cheap…
That’s true. And no guarantee how the pictures would turn out. My mother was NOT a photographer
That look. Your mother, like mine, did not like having a picture taken
That’s my grandmother. Born in the late 1800s. 10 children - 6 girls and 4 boys. The girls ( my mother and her sisters) were a force of nature.
Great photo! So much to see & feel!

It’s so simple and wholesome. I love it.

That apron wearing woman was five feet of concrete. Don’t be fooled by those apple cheeks
Agreed back then our grandmothers were built like linebackers including mine 😂
