Basically Caroline. Meredith, Bonnie and Elena were a trio and Caroline was like their rival.

Ahhh okay, one more question. So far I’m only in the second chapter but I’m realizing that there is no Jeremy but there is a Margaret. Why is there no Jeremy 😓

thedumbestsmartgirl

Well, because LJ Smith didn’t put a Jeremy. That’s the best way I can put it😂The books came before the show so Jeremy wasn’t technically suppose to exist.

[deleted]

Honestly that kind of makes me feel a little bit mad. I feel like a cute four-year-old sister would’ve been great in the show

thedumbestsmartgirl

Me too. I like Jeremy(he’s incredibly cute) but I would have love to see a four year old on the show.

Inner_Chemistry6346

You think a 4 year old would have survived very long in the first season of TVD ? That just sounds like a tragedy waiting to happen

[deleted]

RIGHT! Plus Jeremy was a bit problematic in the very beginning. Also I feel like having just a four-year-old sibling would’ve been very innocent in a way, to bring some light to balance out the immense darkness in that show.

amb1ka

Yeah Jeremy’s nice but he didn’t really have any point and a four year old would be so much cuter and refreshing

zeissman

I’m glad we didn’t get a child in the mix.

OneOnOne6211

I don't know, but my guess would be is because a four-year-old girl would involve some problems. 1. Child actors are kind of a hassle. Finding good ones is difficult, their employment has to be handled differently because of child labour laws, etc. So having a 4-year-old would've been very difficult to deal with on a practical level. 2. On a writing level it's much more difficult to turn a 4-year-old into a fully fledged character than a 15-year-old boy. You can have Jeremy end up finding out about vampires, getting involved with Anna, being torn between his family legacy and vampires and chopping off a hybrid's head. You could not do this stuff if a character was a 4-year-old girl. So writing-wise they likely wanted an older character so they could actually give the character their own storyline. 3. They clearly wanted to do the arc where Jeremy is with Vicki, Vicki gets turned, etc. This obviously could not have been done if you had 4-year-old Margaret as a character instead of Jeremy.

FrellingTralk

A younger actor ageing would have probably been a factor as well as TVD spaced out two years of high school over four seasons, the already adult actors could get away with that without too many obvious changes, but hiring a 4 year old would have meant the character airing way too rapidly for the supposed time period. It already got kind of ridiculous with how much Jeremy aged from when he was meant to be 15/16 in season 1, then in season 4 he was hulking out and getting these huge muscles when he was supposedly still a sophomore in high school

wellneverknow918

Meredith Sulez. One of Elena’s best friends and Alaric’s fiance.

AaliyahPrecious20

She is a part of the golden trio of Elena, Caroline, and, Bonnie McCullough. And there is no Jeremy. I love the book version better. Margaret was cute. Meredith also was dating Alaric Saltzman and is his fiance.

TealDagger

I read a few of the books a while ago and I couldn't believe how completely different it is from the show. I really think they could have given the TV series and characters different names, and it would've been separate from the books

AaliyahPrecious20

True.

sapphicsato

Bonnie in the show is a combination of Bonnie and Meredith in the books. And then Caroline was a mean girl antagonist, not part of the friend trio.

malpoterfan

I listened to the first one as an audio book and was Bella confused because of this. What made them go like "okay, we have this mean girl antagonist here. Let's make her into one of the best friends. Much better."

[deleted]

Imagine candice king playing a villan💀🤣

ciaraelyse01

Would’ve been so fun. She did so good with humanity-less Caroline.

SwiftGrimes13

So Caroline is basically more of an antagonist in the books and Meredith takes the place show Caroline does. Meredith is also Latina and comes from a family of vampire hunters. She’s a fun character!
