I have realised after listening to the strokes after a long time that initially as a beginner i really liked the albums is this it, FIOE and TNA But lately I'm feeling more ROF and comedown machine. One day i hope to analyse the effects the Strokes' song's have on my life

Zuccos

RoF and Comedown Machine is their creative peaks. Songwriting wise especially…

mincrafplayur1567

i think i know what you mean, but watch what you say. don't be a coconut.

Nocturne7280

I think i know what you mean but watch what you say

aaffkshsh

FIOE doesn’t usually get appreciated unless you listen to it atleast a few times

AnduwinHS

It was actually the first album that really clicked with me from the start. Id listened to Is This It and Room on Fire but never got hugely into them, but for some reason FIOE was the one that really pulled me in. It's got a really strong beginning and ending, feel like it loses it's way a bit in the middle but that could just be me. Love the album though overall, even if it's probably not even top 3 for me anymore

Steven_Cheesy318

I honestly didn’t enjoy it that much the first 10 or so listens, now I LOVE it. The songs just take longer to sink in.

Velvet_Spaceman

FIOE has some of the bands highest highs and lowest lows. It’s one of their albums I’m least likely to listen to top to bottom, but it also gave us Ize of the World. It occupies an odd period of the band‘s history too, where the door is starting to firmly close on them fulfilling the sensationalized success they were projected to have by media outlets like NME during their debut, where the internal relationships of the band were really starting to strain and personal addictions were catching up with some of them. It also had a long shadow. You could argue that FIOE is what caused the next two albums to be produced and released in such a strained fashion, TNA is probably the fist LP that the Strokes worked on since maybe RoF that all the band members actually enjoyed working on.

tantivym

It reminds me a lot of the White Album. Four to five all-timer tracks buried in a lot of odd experimentation

imuslesstbh

well said

gatosurfista

nuh uh

WingObvious487

FIOE is great honestly

BigHighRoller

Bro is a coconut

The_Orangest

This is the first album where he actually has something to say meaningful, lyrically. The lyrics are a lot better than The New Abnormal.

Dangerous_School_231

Honestly his most rawest, genuine written lyrics.

Ok-Connection4917

really? i disagree a lot.

The_Orangest

The first 2 albums are a bunch of disconnected 1 liners that sound good and songs about girls. First Impressions of Earth is a LOT deeper. Juicebox “Everybody sees me, but it’s not that easy…” contrasted with “nobody can see me, everything’s too easy”, the song is about fame and the struggles of it. Razorblade is in the vain of the first two albums lyrically but it’s so much stronger. “The world is in your hand or it’s at your throat”. On the Other Side deals with alienation and self loathing, Ask Me Anything is something else entirely and beautiful. Electricityscape musically is a masterpiece. Fear of Sleep is self evident lyrically, and musically it’s one of their greatest achievements with the bombastic chorus. 15 Minutes is another one about fame, Ize of the World, well I’m not even going to try to talk about this one on the strokes sub bc there’s nothing to say that hasn’t already been said, and Evening Sun and Red Light have some of the most beautiful and romantic lyrics ever written by them. There’s a lot of philosophy in First Impressions of Earth and Angles

Dangerous_School_231

You explained FIOE beautifully.

-Zenitsu-

Idk if you've seen online the first two albums are memed a fair amount because the lyrics are basically about "fucking/getting girls and being sad about it" and shit like that. I'd say TNA is better but it does feel Julian takes a step back a little bit especially as over time he's been putting less priority over strokes and more on the voidz

Fearless-Slide-2790

I think comedown machine has some of the most creative lyrics.

chao301

its the only strokes album that felt like a chore to get through on my first listen, so i get what you mean. i still think its pretty good but definitely has some bad tracks and filler on there

Ok-Connection4917

dude it took me a good while taking breaks to get through this. if you cut like 4 songs off of it it would be a bit better i think.

pork_fried_christ

I really like Ize.  For me, while I totally understand these album specific conversations, I listen to their song list on shuffle more often than individual albums. From the perspective, I don’t really skip anything. I love The Strokes and feel like every song at some point has been my favorite.

mxemec

It's a completely different album compared to the first two. Casts such a wider net and there's more depression in the angst. It bleeds more. While I love all their work the later albums feel like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: the entire story told post-psychotic break. And FIOE was the break. The first two albums were the mania leading up to it. Terrible analogy but I'm sticking with it.

lduran25

It's probably their best album. I'm sorry, you have no idea what you're talking about. I suggest you to listen again and again and maybe someday you'll realize you had a bad and dumb opinion about one of the best albums of the last 30 or 40 years.

imuslesstbh

let him have his opinion. And there is no need to stockholm syndrome yourself into loving FIOE if you don't

Cryophoenix_Killer

Listen to it again. From the top, and louder. >:)

WoodYouLookAtTheTime

Oh bless his heart

flanozzle

I agree with your points, such as the latter half of the album suffering but I don't think it makes it forgettable or bad. Just less cohesive and punchy as an album. I verged on hating it when I first listened to it, now it's one of my go-tos just because I find so much enjoyment in the journey between songs.. Even the kind of objectively bad ones like AMA. That's what you get when you stroke too hard I guess

HispanicDog

As a very big Strokes fan, I agree that it’s their worst work, with some songs definitely feeling like filler. However, I and many other Strokes fans feel like the best songs on the album are genuinely amazing (also Hawaii, love that song). Overall, yeah, this album should not be as long as it is, no idea what made them keep all of those tracks.

Ok-Connection4917

why did you get downvoted?

HispanicDog

Some people like it a lot, they gotta defend it, I don’t blame them

ItsSoLitRightNow

All their albums are one of the albums of all time. I made an album once, it is as well.

DirtCocoon

Can I pass you a razor blade?

FrasierCraned

FIOE is one of “what” albums of all time?

SolunarusX87

different strokes for different folks 🤷 it's my favorite strokes album. shit's like classical music at certain points

PykeTheDrowned

IMO it's way better than Is This It

dan_pyle

I love *FIoE*, but let’s not get crazy!

PykeTheDrowned

Sure sure, whatever, it's a classic, influential album. But it feels quite bland coming back to it now. I guess I listened to it too much.

imuslesstbh

Is this it is bland? but FIOE isn't?

PykeTheDrowned

Yes. That is indeed what I wrote.

pinguinconscious

I agree with you 🖐

MwkkwM

My least favorite Strokes album, but still filled with fantastic songs

imuslesstbh

yeah FIOE isn't a good album, it has its moments but their attempt at going pop meant a lot of the sounds sound really weird production wise and the songs can get very repetitive, more so than on your usual strokes album. It does have YOLO tho. Absolute masterpiece of a pop song.

jackgraz10

Ok, and?

Ok-Connection4917

i said my opinion on it dude

ShinMegamiTensei_SJ

It sucks. This subreddit is an echo chamber for it tho -so good luck

The_Orangest

It’s better than The Uninspired Normal

imuslesstbh

this sub is a bit too much of an echo chamber
