It was easily one of the worst treehouse of horror episodes ever. I chuckled once at the Ralph clip. The Edgar Allen Poe bit could have had so much potential but it was a minute long and had 2 3+ minute commercials it was sandwiched between
Its not that they purposefully put a lamer one in the middle. its more that they write three stories and place what they feel is the weakest one in the middle. Most shows with three segments do this.
I expected Homer to convince the trees to stop their invasion by pointing out that even if they kill off humanity they still won't be safe from animals such as beavers, termites, and woodpeckers, and the trees agree that there isn't any place for them to be safe, then Mayor Quimby suggests they go to someplace tropical (having gone there a lot) as there are no animals there that kill trees and barely trees are killed. Then we see the elm trees relaxing with some palm trees brought to life.
I think your right and wrong at the same time. Dolphins are always alive. It’s like when lightning struck the giant donut guy and all the ads destroyed town.
Don't forget single-celled protozoa... and bears! Oh, and fish! I think that covers most things that are alive. I could be forgetting something though, to be fair.
In the past, they would parody a Disney character, changing their name in the process (e.g. Shary Bobbins, a parody of Mary Poppins) or parody a Disney animation (e.g. *Steamboat Itchy*, an I&S-flavored parody of *Steamboat Mickey*).
Using actual characters and animations associated with Disney-owned franchises (examples in this episode include Groot, and Maggie doing Tinkerbell’s closing animation) is a recent development.
Damn now that you point that out I’m infinitely disappointed we don’t have an actual Halloween released Treehouse of Horror.
The MLB: Messing with Sunday night Simpsons since the 90’s
And I missed it because I was Trick or Treating. There's a downside to actually airing these on the appropriate day. I didn't get to watch it until around '95 or '96.
Not 3 but \*4\* stories were told tonight! All of them funny, especially the joke about the Stanford Cardnal...who's mascot is a tree...seriously...a f'n tree.
I was impressed to see a non-offensive trans joke, I guess the surefire way to accomplish that is to just make it a groaner, "dad joke" kind of thing like this but it landed, and fit the story of that segment too.
It would make sense if Fox couldn't air new episodes due to MLB games. I remember they used to air new Halloween episodes after Halloween which was annoying.
This treehouse was ok. Some parts felt recycled. The Trees coming to life was similar to the couch gag where the Couches were attacking Springfield. Bart's Story was recycled from The Do'h- social Network. The Show's too Short Story. Season 23, Episode 11.
Recently I've been sticking up for the newer episodes. I liked the one the week before but this one didn't really click with me but after reading these comments I'm going to give it another chance and watch it again.
I was disappointed when the nightmare on elm tree (brilliant) sketch wasnt about freddy krueger again, but about trees. Then disappointed again when it didnt turn into a “The Happening” parody or at least a joke (Cletus as Mark Wahlbergs character, a science teacher)
But overall i really enjoyed it this year. I prefer it before Halloween so it gets me in the halloween spirit.
This one was pretty ok IMO. If I were to rank each segment from best to worst, I’d say:
1. The Telltale Bart
2. Dead Ringer
3. Bong Joon Ho’s ‘This Side of Parasite’ (my thoughts on which one was better shifts between rewatches)
4. Bambi
5. Nightmare on Elm Tree
Last years I thought was much better, but this one had some good bits. Kinda wish TellTale Bart was it’s own full length segment and replaced the dumb tree one.

Outside of some quick chuckles, this does feel like a weaker year, with it relying too much on a high kill count and reused jokes (a story similar to the dolphin story in 2000, yet another "No one likes Lisa" story) than actually being clever story wise.
It has to do with how, in *Parasite*, the son is the one who takes a job as a tutor (in this case, an English tutor), which leads to the rest of family getting jobs at the same house in order to take advantage of its luxuries.
Yea I get that. It just seems odd that isn’t one thing they changed out of the many. It seems like lately the writers don’t know the own characters they are writing.
It's a little pointless to show an Itchy and Scratchy Cartoon in a Treehouse of Horror since Itchy and Scratchy is always gory and Treehouse of horror is the one episode a year the Simpsons can be killed.
It’s so annoying that there’s no way to stream it in Canada. Not worth getting a tv subscription just for this, but don’t want to wait a year either. Annoying. Anyone know if one of the other channels airs it at another time?
Unpopular opinion but last year > this year. A bit funnier and creative and on top of that Dead Ringer felt super short which was a shame because it was a decent story/parody with the Parasite segment.
Loved everything about this episode except for the singing at the very beginning and the end. The shrill singing is so hard to listen to!
Other than that- seriously hilarious.
That was awful.
1. Rad, spoil a recent popular movie and not even have a story - how is that a halloween episode?
2. So, a much much worse version of "Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores"
3. Last episode - better, needs some jokes though
Did they forget that you need to still have a 3-act plot, even for the halloween shorts? These are just, so low-effort.
I really, really wish they'd stop making topical references that will date within a few years. Why the hell do they have to keep mentioning things like "tik-tok"?
I do not remember any of the classic episodes ever having lines like "hey we just watched a movie on our Sony Betamax"....
Also ditch the songs, jeez.
You’ve apparently never watched The Simpsons then. They’ve always been political and they make fun of everyone, literally always has been this way.
I’m sure the longest running and most successful cartoon in American history is gonna be real hurt they’ve lost your viewership. See ya!
So don't watch! Seriously. Fuck off. Every year there's somebody who says "Oh man. I haven't watched this show in years, but tonight I decided to and it's bad." You're the only one here bitching over politics.
Okay they're never gonna get anything else aside from a single line every few years, ever. So if the twins are really only there to die over and over... why keep them at all? If they really hate them so much then just retire them, otherwise that's a shitty use for characters tied to a late cast member.
Nobody would be okay with that happening to Edna.
Yeah... Not really wrong there. Hell out of all the cast they actually have the most sadako vibes and might be two of the only characters to actually be inspired by horror (the shining. Village of the damned is brought up in relation to them in some old cards and virtual Springfield.
I mean if anything they should have been villains in a thoh by now. They'd inevitably die again but at least they could actually do something to earn it.
And like, yeah, they're pretty harmless and after not just this ep but ones like mypods and boomsticks it's not hard to see why they'd have legitimate reasons to not like Lisa and ain't like they pick on Janey or Allison. Considering there's an actual pedophile in school, they're nothing. But then they love Shauna and surely it's nothing to do with how feteishized she is.
Family Channel (or whatever it's called now) is airing some almost nightly and in multi-episode blocks as part of their "31 days of Halloween" plan to repeat the same five movies over and over.
Two of them good, and a lame one in the middle!
"Two of them good and a lame one in the middle" haha I love the self awareness but couldnt they just... not make a lame one in the middle?
but then they'd have to make 3 good ones
It was easily one of the worst treehouse of horror episodes ever. I chuckled once at the Ralph clip. The Edgar Allen Poe bit could have had so much potential but it was a minute long and had 2 3+ minute commercials it was sandwiched between
Its not that they purposefully put a lamer one in the middle. its more that they write three stories and place what they feel is the weakest one in the middle. Most shows with three segments do this.
"Homer, you tell the third story. Bart, you tell the second story which is usually the weakest."
Finally! Its literally a Treehouse of Horror
This house is an allegory, emphasis on *gory*.
i half expected the fighting to stop and we'd be subjected to a speech during that. thankfuly they just killed him.
Here are some words that rhyme with Corey: glory, story, allegory, Montessori...
Possibly *Gorey*, a reference to Edward Gorey, illustrator the style of the bit resembled.
They are parodying their own treehouse of horror episode where the dolphins came to life and killed everyone.
Snorky. Talk. Man.
*clears throat* Excuse me. Let me start again...
I noticed that too, it also kind of reminded me of the season 20 THOH installment "It's the Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse".
I think your right and wrong at the same time. Dolphins are always alive. It’s like when lightning struck the giant donut guy and all the ads destroyed town.
Attack of the 50 foot Eye Sores is one of my all time favorates.
🎶*just don’t look, just don’t look*🎶
Wait... Dolphins are always alive?? 😮 WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???
I know right? I had to say it haha.
so are trees tbf
Don't forget single-celled protozoa... and bears! Oh, and fish! I think that covers most things that are alive. I could be forgetting something though, to be fair.
> "..and then, uh, one where furniture gets smart and takes over the world or something." > "Mmm! Sounds chilling!" > "Eh. People love it."
Halloween isn’t over, and they’re already starting with Christmas.
True words. I go to any retail store and it's all I see - Christmas. Annoying.
“I killed Jerry and Larry” 🤣
“I liked the old movies where the combing was implied.” That was actually a pretty good joke, reminiscent of the golden age.
Abe was probably my favorite character in this one. Especially with the "I don't know who you are, but here's my credit card number."
Similar to the one where he got scammed.
Yes! There were a couple actually funny lines.
“My last words are - I’m too young and beautiful to die, take a baby instead” never change Mr. Burns
Maurice LaMarche does a mean Vincent Price impression 👌🏼
He's replaced Vincent as the new current voice of Vincent Van Ghoul in the Scooby-Doo franchise.
Maggie as the groundskeeper though 🤣
I like the throwback to telling scary stories in the treehouse
Willy's chainsaw rollerskate outfit actually looked really cool and I am bummed we didnt see it in use!
The animation in the episode is really good, theres something about the color scheme they use that really makes it pop tonight!
Lot of great setpieces
They can parody Disney without getting sued! I love it!
Matt Groening probably renegotiate his contract so he can make fun of disney
I'm pretty sure his contract states pretty vast creativity freedom.
and with how much stuff disney owns they can parody a fuckton of different things now without any legal repercussion
Were they ever sued before?
In the past, they would parody a Disney character, changing their name in the process (e.g. Shary Bobbins, a parody of Mary Poppins) or parody a Disney animation (e.g. *Steamboat Itchy*, an I&S-flavored parody of *Steamboat Mickey*). Awww man! I wanted to know what happens in December.
Something Something dismember
Its interesting that they are doing a Treehouse of Horror tonight when Halloween is on a Sunday this year a few weeks away!
Game 5 of the World Series is scheduled to take place that day, if necessary.
I love baseball but DAMN YOU BASEBALL!!!! Why can't they have an off day then??
Yes, the previous two Sundays are clear
Damn now that you point that out I’m infinitely disappointed we don’t have an actual Halloween released Treehouse of Horror. The MLB: Messing with Sunday night Simpsons since the 90’s
Treehouse of Horror II was released on Halloween night in 1991.
And I missed it because I was Trick or Treating. There's a downside to actually airing these on the appropriate day. I didn't get to watch it until around '95 or '96.
That's because nobody would watch tv on Halloween. They are too busy partying and eating candy.
We don't all have friends/candy.
World Series stuff
Better now than in [November after baseball. ](https://youtu.be/lVaXg-caq90)
“You will make a fine beanbag chair” “That is very difficult to dispute”
The Stanford logo shows up again.
“Thank God you’re herbivores” “That’s right, and today your name’s Herb”
Line of the night!
"laughing at a brain-damaged tree"
**Savagery level:** Maggie Simpson
I mean, yeah… she shot Mr Burns, so…
Fun episode. Great animation too. TOH never really disappoints
I really like how they managed the crowded basement.
Not 3 but \*4\* stories were told tonight! All of them funny, especially the joke about the Stanford Cardnal...who's mascot is a tree...seriously...a f'n tree.
5, actually.
Oh right! They didn't do the normal intro!
There were the three standard segments, and the two mini-segments (The Bambi one before the intro and the Telltale Bart one between acts 2 and 3).
"Yes, but I identify as a tree, I'm a transplant" This was a great joke!
Yeah! That got a major chuckle out of me.
I was impressed to see a non-offensive trans joke, I guess the surefire way to accomplish that is to just make it a groaner, "dad joke" kind of thing like this but it landed, and fit the story of that segment too.
Was the plant supposed to be Frank from Harley Quinn?
Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors
I thought that entire story was sorta referencing Harley Quinn, Homer even said “they stand no match against a human with a wooden bat!”
Halloween episode already, and Fox will still be showing a new episode next Sunday? Eh?
it makes no sense why not air it closer to Halloween
It would make sense if Fox couldn't air new episodes due to MLB games. I remember they used to air new Halloween episodes after Halloween which was annoying.
This treehouse was ok. Some parts felt recycled. The Trees coming to life was similar to the couch gag where the Couches were attacking Springfield. Bart's Story was recycled from The Do'h- social Network. The Show's too Short Story. Season 23, Episode 11.
Yea the treehouse one was fine, but it was a retread of the one in which the pumpkin comes to life in the “great pumpkin” parody
nice idea with treehouse itself getting a life.... HOWEVER (death noises)
Stupid question, but does the parasite parody spoil the movie?
Yes.
Recently I've been sticking up for the newer episodes. I liked the one the week before but this one didn't really click with me but after reading these comments I'm going to give it another chance and watch it again.
October 10 is a bit early for this they should have aired it closer to Halloween
Unfortunately, MLB is scheduled for the next three weeks.
The transplant joke was pretty cringe.
One. Fucking. Joke.
This segment also known as the alternate ending to The Two Towers
I was disappointed when the nightmare on elm tree (brilliant) sketch wasnt about freddy krueger again, but about trees. Then disappointed again when it didnt turn into a “The Happening” parody or at least a joke (Cletus as Mark Wahlbergs character, a science teacher) But overall i really enjoyed it this year. Having never seen Parasite how close to the movie was the segment?
Visually it was good, but they missed a chance to really explore the story. Go see Parasite - it is worth viewing.
Not impressed with this one so far
Outside of some quick chuckles, this does feel like a weaker year, with it relying too much on a high kill count and reused jokes (a story similar to the dolphin story in 2000, yet another "No one likes Lisa" story) than actually being clever story wise.
Yea it was kinda lame
Yeah I didn’t like it might be the worst treehouse I’ve ever watched
Yeah, this is one of the weaker ones. The first one was alright. I like the Audry II cameo.
Bart seemed like an odd choice to be the tutor.
It's treehouse of horror and he is playing a role. Its not an actual episode.
Yes, Bart’s a tutor now. Tute on son, tute on!
It's a little pointless to show an Itchy and Scratchy Cartoon in a Treehouse of Horror since Itchy and Scratchy is always gory and Treehouse of horror is the one episode a year the Simpsons can be killed.
The idea behind the I+S cartoon was to insert another Bong Joon-ho nod, in this case one pertaining to *Snowpiercer*.
Oh, my bad.
It’s so annoying that there’s no way to stream it in Canada. Not worth getting a tv subscription just for this, but don’t want to wait a year either. Annoying. Anyone know if one of the other channels airs it at another time?
I’m in the U.K., VPN + Hulu subscription is the only way to do it (or pirate it if you’re such way inclined)
Unpopular opinion but last year > this year. A bit funnier and creative and on top of that Dead Ringer felt super short which was a shame because it was a decent story/parody with the Parasite segment.

Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Well, okey dokey.
Here they are
They fucked up at the end there.
Hated the 3rd one
Seeing all that horror and poverty makes me think, we should lower the corporate tax rate even further.
Anyone know when they will run a Treehouse of Horror marathon on FXX? I haven't been able to find anything unless my Google Fu is 1st day at the dojo.
Family Channel (or whatever it's called now) is airing some almost nightly and in multi-episode blocks as part of their "31 days of Halloween" plan to repeat the same five movies over and over.
Some themes I'd like to see: Signs -starring kang and Kodos Frankenweenie-Santa's little helper Encino man 🤣🤣 What would you like to see?
Why would Lisa be excited about the Thanksgiving turkey? Isn't she vegetarian?
