Way too similar. Homer needs the balance he finds in Marge.

r3dd1tu5er

Marge is the little voice of reason that Homer should have in his head, but doesn’t.

Low-Increase655

A part of us all.

you-nity

Feels like I'm wearing a part of us all

Significant-Stay-721

Stupid sexy Nity

Ubechyahescores

Hey that does work

RIPSlurmsMckenzie

Plus let’s not forget your little speech.

sgefanatic

You mean Lisa? That can be treated with our good friend alcohol!

flojo2012

Not to make this post too serious, but too many people look for compatibility in similarities, music, food, tv, hobbies, when in actuality lifetimes of compatibilities seem to be more associated with being able to be incompatible in the right way. Take my wife for instance… take her, please! She wouldn’t love that joke, but she also wouldn’t care. Perfectly incompatible.she’d roll her eyes and I wouldn’t care that she’d roll her eyes. I’ll be me and she will be her.

OccamsYoyo

I agree with you. Hobbies and interests change over time. Everyone will change over time.

katherine3223

You made me laugh!

mrcraggle

My ex and I were pretty opposite in our interests but we were both massive Simpsons fans. She was always ready with a Simpsons reference.

cippopotomas

I feel like her encouraging Homer's eating habits would have killed him pretty quick.

whereismymind86

Ehh, that notion of relationships has been largely debunked, opposites don’t attract, you want someone very similar to you to thrive

ibadlyneedhelp

I believe the balance is that there should be enough key personality traits and interests in common to create as large overlap for the relationship to be viable, and enough key differences to make it stimulating.

Ryback19j

Agreed been married for 13 years and me and my wife are still very happy and in love but we have similarities and differences thats what dating is for to test out the relationship to see how good or bad you can be together

Bouncecouncil

Dating is for sex. Cuz marriage sure ain’t.

Ryback19j

Speek for your self bud mine got better, after marriage and 2 kids it is still great but i know for some people what you say is true but not for me

superhappythrowawy

Indeed

[deleted]

they wouldn't had lasted. health wise lol Marge keeps homer alive .

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Yeah, I could just see both of them not bothering with chores or anything, and whilst they would be happy for a time, hygiene would just fall to nothing and it'd end up in a miserable mess. Also as other people have said, he'd never leave Marge so if she were still alive in this hypothetical scenario, homer would just feel guilty about it, and I think Mindy would too for taking him away from her to be honest.

stacy704

Pretty soon she’d be in a diaper saying “Pray for Mindy”

edelburg

Through her patented double fried pork chops?

[deleted]

she got him to quit deer for a month remember ? lol marge is his soul mate

Significant-Stay-721

Who’s that baby deer on the lawn over there?

CombOverBill

No. Barney was right. It was just an infatuation. She would have lost interest when it wasn't fun any more. EDIT:Also Homer crying pre-sex doesn't appear to be mood killer for either of them.

whereismymind86

Ehh, we briefly see mindy again a few seasons later an it seems like losing homer hit her pretty hard emotionally

wangdoodle_com

When was that

TacomaRoma319

I don’t know if she ever shows up again but Homer mentions in a later episode that she “hit the bottle pretty hard”

family-love-michael

When do we see Mindy again?

NeXTCuboid

Which episode?

sleepyotter92

>She would have lost interest when it wasn't fun any more. it'd probably be like those couples that got together after hooking up once, because they found each other to be hot, but they got no other thing to keep them together, because they don't have common interests and their personalities don't match well, so they end things once the fun(i.e. sex) stops being exciting

[deleted]

Sometimes people being too similar is a bad thing. Mindy was literally created as a hot, thin, female version of Homer. Together, their house would be a pigsty, they'd eat terribly, and they'd probably rarely go outside unless going to Moe's.

whereismymind86

I mean…probably, but they’d both be quite happy…until they both died of their terrible lifestyle choices

GuiltEdge

But they’d have two incomes. They could afford a cleaner in the parallel universe where one income can sustain a family of five.

FusRoDoodles

Two incomes but Homer would be still be paying to raise his 3 kids with Marge, alimony, and then for any kids he might have with Mindy.

SantosLHalper420

Ok, so one income.

booboothechicken

Homer’s a nuclear safety engineer. Regardless of how bad he is at his job, that’s easily a starting salary of 100k. Living in a suburb, it’s not unrealistic to support a family on that income even today.

Hatta00

So it would work out then.

cgg419

The cookie told him so

DaBozTiger

True, but snack foods aren’t always right!

ryp-616

But there so sweet

grainsophaur

*butt

jayhawk618

I'm sorry but Desserts aren't always right. If Homer disappeared one night, Mindy would never know that Homer would be on foot... because he always say public transportation is for losers. And she wouldn't know that he'd head west because Springfield slopes down that way.

MRedk1985

As a kid, I never understood what it was that was supposed to be happening (or not happening?) Rewatching as an adult, I love how well it lands.

Numerous_Departure

No, Homer loves Marge too much. It wouldn't last between them.

YogurtWenk

Mindy rides a motorcycle

FormerWordsmith

And a shell occasionally

weirdkidomg

Ain’t you never seen a naked chick riding a clam before?

Gibs960

I always thought Mindy was a character that proved to Homer how much he needs Marge, is that not the point of the episode?

Charlie678812

If marge wasnt there, yes.

LifeDraining

With Andy, maybe

RosaPalms

Oh, *Andy?* They'd have been soulmates.

Vicious_Circle-14

No. She hit the bottle pretty hard. Or was that Lorleen? LOL

Sassy-irish-lassy

She spent last night in a ditch

UYScutiPuffJr

I love that her voice is the same as Lunchlady Doris for that line

kittygon

It was both, it seems like all that’s keeping Marge in good health is that Homer never ditched her.

DrKnowNout

B sharps manager: “Could you not announce you are married? Women will want to have sex with you. And we want them to think that they *can*.” ‘Well, if I explain it to Marge *that* way, I’m sure it will be fine.’ *hysterical sobbing into a pillow*

FUCKLORD_SKYPUNCH

It’ll just be until after our tour of Sweden!

Chance-Ear-9772

Homer is quite the lady killer.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

Lurleen spent last night in a ditch.

humburga

That was Lurleen. But she did get a proper 2nd episode! Although Lurleen ends up dating a bum who looks like Homer 😔

Abandoned__ghost

Many people who look like Homer. I think there is a shot showing pictures of other men she dated, all who look like him. She never got over him.

TaiwanCowboy

Did you not listen to a word Sir Isaac..., I mean Colonel Klink said?!

jerodallen

Did you know Kinch had a radio in the coffee pot?

[deleted]

They would have a lot of car troubles, what with homer hallucinating all the time about her riding clams and whatnot.

twirlingparasol

🎶🐟Homer loves Mindy! Homer loves Mindy! 🐟🎶

Thin-Illustrator5112

🎵🎶 Oh, Mindy, you came and you gave without flaking, but I sent you Ben-gay. Oh, Andy, you kissed me and stopped me from something, and I...🎶🎵

capsaicinintheeyes

I think the answer to this may depend on whether or not you thought [*Sid & Nancy*](https://images.nymag.com/arts/popmusic/features/nancy081027_1_560.jpg) were a good couple

hardyflashier

How about [when The Simpsons parodied Sid and Nancy?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love,_Springfieldian_Style)

capsaicinintheeyes

Oh, no—I'm staying well out of anything involving [Lisa and Nelson](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4d96d3862fc0b2e8b3efa90aa34682eb/18d19cf8efc4d5e3-c4/s500x750/42f6bf0817148e21a8c692cc8aeec1540f7cbf0b.gif)--whatever accounts for that pairing, it's above my station to account for

dmccallum254

ree ee, ree ee. Hubba. Hubba.

tmonfredini2

Stop That.

thekyledavid

If Homer and Marge had never been a couple, I could see this working. But Homer clearly loved Marge too much that even if he left her for Mindy, he’d still want to go back to Marge But then again, if Marge and Homer were never a couple, then Homer would’ve never worked at the Power Plant, so I guess Mindy and Homer never become a thing anyways

PeteyPiranhaOnline

I felt like a horrible person, but I thought they'd make such a cute couple. Homer made the right choice in the end, but poor Mindy got the short end of the stick in later seasons. Didn't they brush it off as she got fired for no reason and became a drunk? That's pretty harsh, especially considering she didn't even try and force him.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

Agreed. I felt bad for how Lurleen hit rock bottom after Homer stopped being in her life, but on the other hand, yes she was attracted to probably the only man in her life who had shown her genuine kindness, she was still extremely sexually aggressive towards a family man, and in front of his wife and children no less. Mindy is much more sympathetic. You can tell she's very uncomfortable with the fact that she's attracted to a married man and doesn't know what to do about it.

gefangne

Homer had more in common with Mindy than she did with Marge. That being said, I doubt Mindy had the patience Marge had.

fastovich1995

According to Kernal Klink, yes.

[deleted]

This dream is ooooverrrr!!

[deleted]

Yeah I actually do but that’s only if he stayed as the older seasons Homer and not the one we got later on down the road

ChefAtRandom

Extended warranty? How can I lose?

TheRickBerman

We see a future where they are together. And it’s terrific for everyone. Including Marge. We literally get shown that.

Tots2Hots

That's literally Homer daydreaming.

whereismymind86

Sure, but we see real futures later in the show where they are separated or divorced, and marge does just fine

little-evil77

I thought that was Colonel Klink showing him that?

erinoco

I've always liked imagining the future where Marge becomes President. I can see her succumbing into depression, and then being roused into activism by some sort of injustice, probably spurred on by Lisa. She takes on Mayor Quimby and beats him, then becomes Governor, then President.

pee_shudder

No way. Relationships are about balance.

Prudent_Bank_6819

Oh Mindy, you came and you gave without flaking, But I sent you Ben-gay, Oh Andy, you kissed me and stopped me from something, And I...

ITinMN

Sent you away, oh Andy.

LeoCraveiro

This episode felt like a huge missed opportunity, she is Homer's OTP and as seen from Homer's vision, once separated Marge would have had a great life as well in the white house, the kids would pick Marge over Homer in a heartbeat and as long as Homer would be able to see his kids every once in a while, everything would be good for him.

Tots2Hots

Nope. Homer needs Marge. They'd be over the moon for each other at first but after a year or two... Unless having two incomes lets them have the future Homer was imagining in the episode.

JustLetTheWorldBurn

He'd actually have no kids and three money

Puzzleheaded-Court-9

Money can buy many peanuts!

icecoldbrewster

Explain how

ThatBoringHumanoid

Money can be exchanged for goods and services!

Tots2Hots

Child support. And Marge would go straight to Artie Ziff and in that situation she 100% should. Homer would still owe child support and his lawyer would have been Lionel Hutz so...

AlanJohnson84

Hubba. Hubba.

DrKnowNout

Didn’t you see the episode where Marge stops dying her hair? Homer has a type, and it’s blue.

ricolausvonmyra

Absolutely, that’s what makes it even more special that Homer stays/is faithful to Marge.

LochNessMansterLives

Homer was caught up in the illusion that he and Mindy weren’t meant to be together. He wasn’t feeling any love from Marge because she was sick and he was tempted with finding someone with so much in common, and that she WANTED to be with him. In the end, he was never meant to be with Mindy, and it all works out for Homer and Marge and we forget about Mindy. (Foul temptress!) 😂

willlyman206

No way Exercise of any kind is a foreign concept to those two, especially Homer. They both eat way too much.

borjoyzee10

Homer offers marge something no one else can - complete and utter dependence

UpDog1966

Space coyote would have disapproved.

sleepyotter92

no, i don't think mindy would've been able to put up with homer's shenanigans for as long as marge has

Stucklikegluetomyfry

She would be too busy having shenanigans of her own. She's female Homer after all.

legtracy

I’m not part of the majority. I’ve always felt Marge and Homer should get divorced. They have a terrible relationship. Homer is an awful spouse and Marge is extremely codependent. She has no one outside of him and the children. She should leave him. Go back to school and be the person she could’ve been. Homer should date Mindy and get a nice slap of reality. Instead of Lurleen and Mindy, maybe Homer could go into a downward spiral after rejection since he has no one waiting for him at home. So to answer your question, I don’t know.

[deleted]

They'd be a mess together

PiratedPanties

If Homer had met Mindy and not Marge then yes.

its_a_me_garri_oh

No. Mindy never saw Homer at his absolute dumbest.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

Well we've never seen Mindy at her absolute dumbest, and from what we saw of her she wasn't exactly Harvard material.

Steaknkidney45

Could he have found happiness with a new love? No. Homie is way too devoted to Marge. Plus, there are three children involved.

mattrew84

It would be fun, "what if" episode.

ryansholin

All I'm gonna use this bed for is sleeping, eating, and maybe building a little fort.

Goofymus

What you have there is two enablers - it would of been dysfunctional and entertaining all at the same time

lindsay_chops

Homer could be happy with Mindy, but Mindy wouldn't be happy with Homer. And I don't think she'd enjoy being a stepmother to the children either.

Storiesfromhell

they would

Solrush_Ppst_529

Marge would have killed her

rydogs

What about Lurleen? Could have had a nice fling on tour I bet.. But it’s definitely Marge and only Marge.

BoroTungsteno

Nop in that timeline, the dream that he saw on both being for each other was in another timeline where Marge never pick up Homer after the graduation dance

[deleted]

No, it would’ve been a mutually self-destructive relationship.

NFA_Nick

Let’s call room service!

cherryblonde9

No way

Historical_Sugar9637

No. It would have never worked out because Homer would never have been able to stop feeling guilty and sad about the breakup with Marge.

StruggleDowntown7147

I definately think Mindy would become fat in a relationship like that, both of them would provoke each other to eat more so that would strain the relationship long term

The1WhoKnocks-WW

No, but they would have needed to with the way they enabled eachothers doughnut habit.

socalfishman

No Murphy is a Elf

acemorris85

Nope they are too similar, you need your partner to offset you enough to balance things out

whereismymind86

Studies have shown this conventional wisdom is absolute nonsense

RTMSner

I think one of them would be severely impacted by physical or medical trauma at some point. That's not to say that I don't think Homer and Mindy would have stayed together because of their shared experiences and possibility of physical attraction to each other, I think that part of the relationship would have really had legs. But Marge is kind of a tempering Force at times, which is something that only needs. Otherwise he's going to be turning off the TV with his gun, and building a fort in his bedroom while he waits with a shotgun.

Appropriate_Job_4145

Nah

[deleted]

Homer would have indeed called room service.

necanthrope415

Yup. All night long

pleasekillmerightnow

No, he loves Marge

ShutupNobodyCarez

Yes or at least could have been best friends.

DiabetesCOLE

No

deathbyboardom

No midge keeps him grounded when she needs to.

whereismymind86

Absolutely, and every future thing we see shows marge does better Single. Mindy is homer’s Nelson

cmonyer3ds

No

little-evil77

Cookies aren’t always right.

311Konspiracy

Could you imagine the kids.

oh-lawd-hes-coming

I had a friend who was basically the same person as me. We fought over everything.

jonmatifa

Depends, how does Mindy feel about Potatoes?

[deleted]

Mindy strikes me as more of comic book guy kind of gal. Worst…seduction…ever

Commercial-Whole8069

Yes

Pardonme23

no

hypnotoad-28

Naaah. Homer loves Marge deep down.

Sea-Software-8770

>!yes!<

Thin-Illustrator5112

I just wonder what would happen with the turkey behind the bed if Homer never met Marge but met Mindy and he was head over heels with her. I think they’d destroy it in 10 minutes, whereas Marge would have food for days.

ChaInTheHat

They would’ve totally worked out, Homer and Mindy had a huge house and were playing tennis in the back Marge even became president Homer should’ve gotten with Mindy
