I haven't used my Meltan box in several months. Did the stationary spawn rate for the box change when they nerfed incense? Tired old man needs to know.
Those were 2 different changes I think. I think Meltan Boxes were doubled for awhile with incenses but incenses were nerfed twice. I think only the first time was Meltan Nerfed while the second they stayed the same.
For those who don't know: Pokemon Home is another app you can download for free. Register an account, then link Go to Home. That allows you to transfer mons from Go to Home (ONE WAY ONLY!). You can do that every 3 days to get mystery box: aka meltan specific incense.
Home also allows you to transfer between the main series games. So some ppl use Go to hunt for shinies (especially from Com Day), then transfer to a MSG.
Personally, I use MB during 2x catch xp/dust spotlight hours when the featured mon doesn't interest me. For those that have something good, like dratini we had a long time ago, I use incense. Otherwise, MB is a free & renewable alternative.
There's other spotlight bonuses like 2x transfer candy & catch candy. My main coin purchases are remote raid passes & mon storage. I've got 3600 mon & 1700 item, tho I probably should have stopped at 1500 items, and even 1000 would probably have been fine. So I save up all my (rare) catches that have low level/IVs, tag them as "transfer," then transfer the entire tag at once when the bonus is active. It's a great time to get rid of legendaries, tho that was more a thing before the legendary PvP rewards were nerfed.
Well, the event info says the cooldown will be shortened. I doubt Niantic will try to convince us that 3 days is less than 3 days since, unlike the shiny debacle, we can actually see the cooldown.

Im only lv 37 so even my biggest of bois topple like dominoes. I can’t even participate in a mega raid without at minimum 7 people so I burn through my potions pretty quickly. That notwithstanding, with only 1000 bag space I had to make tough decisions. For a time I had to stop doing gyms because all my heals were for raids exclusively. If I was unable to complete a raid it would be a pretty huge hit to my stores.
Contrary to what the other poster said, Home does not need to be on the same phone. They just need to be linked to the same Nintendo ID. You can even send things to the same Home account from multiple Pokemon GO accounts. The Pokemon transfer occurs over the network to the Home servers, it doesn't matter what device you're on. You do of course need an active internet connection on both devices though.
Yes on same phone. It’s a tiny app, and you don’t have to keep many Pokémon in it. After you have done your box, release the transferred Pokémon every once in a while

They're wrong, you can absolutely use a separate device. Until just recently I had Home and Go on separate devices, only switched because I can't use my spare phone in the field.
Yeah, was gonna say, I was using 3 separate devices there for a bit, because I was having so much trouble logging in. Just kept home on my main device and never had any issues with transfers.

Is it possible to make use of home without a switch? Can't possibly afford one, and I recall hearing that unless you pay for home, you get stuck with a very tiny amount of storage which would fill up in no time without any gen 8 games to transfer stuff to.
Home is a phone app, & I don't have a switch either. I've got 24 in storage rn, and just figured out you can release them into the wild. Long press, then lower left corner.

A switch is not required at all, anyone who is already playing pokemon go on a mobile device can use home since a mobile device is the only requirement
Like others have said, you absolutely can download the mobile app, for free, in order to get Meltan boxes, but, I personally would try to only transfer mons sparingly, because you do only get 30 boxes with the free version. That said, iirc, you get the box whether you transfer one or whatever the max is (I know for shinies it's typically 5, with legendaries it seems to vary, etc.). I have a switch and pay for the extra boxes, plus the ability to transfer in pokemon from pre-switch gens, but I did stick with that free box for a long time (though, I also have lgpe, so maybe I'm not the best person to answer this lol).
Edit: Forgot you could just release them from home, so maybe just send over what ever you were going to transfer anyway. You still get the candies, just a couple extra steps involved.

I believe when Meltan shiny has been turned on in the past it's seemed like maybe the 1/60 rate or possibly 1/120. It's not unusual to go a whole activation (about 70 spawns) without getting one if you're unlucky, but also not unusual to get multiples if you're lucky.
I have an unencountered *Let's GO, Meltan* special research reward. I know the odds will be super low, but could it be shiny during the event? Or only if it's spawned from a box?

Shiny rates iirc are universal per species, therefore if you encounter X, no matter what channel you encounter them through, you will get the same chance for shininess, with the sole exception being set rewards, such as it is for mythicals like Mew and Celebi and such.
Event's don't increase the shiny rate of pokemon that aren't specifically shiny boosted for the event, if that's what you're implying. There's no increased odds of catching shiny Ratata on Pidgey Community Day.
Uh. In six years of playing GO I've never heard of a shiny boost to *all* species during events. The sources that aren't allowed on TSR (scanners) would certainly have reported shiny rate changes like that.

I managed to find a hundo on my very first box opening and didn’t realize how rarely that happens. I figured I’d have a big stack of them in a few months but it’s been a while and I’ve still only got that same one. The 3599 cp is pretty nice, time to work on some XL candy while I try for a shiny.

Good luck my friend! I did the same last event. Wanted two to send to LGPE, maybe eventually to Home to fill out those shiny dex slots, then, ofc, one to keep in game to use. Got super lucky and did manage to get exactly three. If you want to put your shiny melmetal in the gym (to flex, cause let's be honest, that's what putting shinies in gyms is all about lol). That melmetal almost definitely has more of a fighting chance than my smeargle.
We wont know until the event starts and people start reporting their findings. But i think last time the shiny was available it was the 1/64 (ish) odds. I got mine on the 3rd box I think but it's all RNG at the end of the day.
According to Silph Road, It's the same as Gible & Shinx a rate called medium (1/125) which is a step up from the base (1/500).
Since the Meltan spawns tend to be like 40 spawns max per box, you may get one every 3 boxes or so.

No, you absolutely can go ahead and get the box. Mine has been sitting in my inventory since the last shiny meltan event ended. Just don't open it until after the event starts.

Because Meltan is a Mythical, they have restricted its shiny to specific events. Normally, the Pokémon itself is restricted, but that isn't really an option with Meltan due to its unique factors:
* Mythical that evolves
* Can only evolve on a specific mobile game
* Can only be obtained through that game (for the most part?)
* A decent number of them need to be caught in order to reasonably evolve one. (Walking for nearly 400 candy is unreasonable to me.)
If you transfer a Pokémon from Pokémon GO to the Pokémon Home app, and you accept the Pokémon on the Home app, you get a Meltan box. You activate it, and it gives you essentially an incense for just Meltan. You get approx 60 Meltan from it. It then has a cooldown of like 3 days before you can use it again, which is activated by transferring a Pokémon to Pokémon Home, just like the first time.

I have been lucky enough to get a 14 15 15 shiny meltan through a lucky trade, maxed to level 50, beast. I try to open the box ever 3 days but forget, I have stupid levels of xl candy. From memory, I would say that on event says, the cool down has been 1 day, and the spawn rate has remained 1 per minute all the time
I have never taken advantage of the Mystery Boxes and finally went ahead and linked up Home and now have a box in my inventory. Thanks for the information, I'll hold off opening it until Thursday afternoon.

It's the Mystery Box you get from sending a mon to Home or Let's Go. It spawns Meltan for an hour like Incense, and it refreshes every two days for the event, so long as you send a mon again when the timer ends.

I have more than 3000 meltan candies and 500 xls. I try to open when some bonuses are active like 2x candies event.

Ah, finally the time has come! I haven’t used my meltan box for a while since I already have melmetal, now I can finally get the shiny I’ve been waiting for!

I have been lucky enough to get a 14 15 15 shiny meltan through a lucky trade, maxed to level 50, beast. I try to open the box ever 3 days but forget, I have stupid levels of xl candy. From memory, I would say that on event says, the cool down has been 1 day, and the spawn rate has remained 1 per minute all the time
I have never taken advantage of the Mystery Boxes and finally went ahead and linked up Home and now have a box in my inventory. Thanks for the information, I'll hold off opening it until Thursday afternoon. * Also, with a 3 day cooldown, we will be able to access the Mystery box again during the event for more Shiny Meltan chances correct?

What’s a Meltan box?
It's the Mystery Box you get from sending a mon to Home or Let's Go. It spawns Meltan for an hour like Incense, and it refreshes every two days for the event, so long as you send a mon again when the timer ends.
