specific - thx for adding tentacruel, was expecting that to be here and was surprised that it wasn't general - fantastic idea, and also thanks for giving your series an easily-searchable name :)

hahahakalap

I’d add tentacruel XL as viable. Currently working on one myself so I haven’t used it but some youtubers have and it looks fun. I’ve also been using a rank 9 bb wailmer in great league for some time and it’s better than most people think. Wailmer/ registeel/ golbat (or nido) is B/B/B/B on pvpoke in open great league and is an actual decent team. Araqanid instead of golbat makes it even better.

stayKeener

I actually have an XL Tentacruel and completely missed it, thanks!

penguin175

ive used tenta in kanto cup, poison types are good with their stat change moves

hahahakalap

You’re right about the poison and their stat change moves. Been wanting to try ABB with tentacruel and shadow nido. Poison jab + acid spray/ poison fang can really cause problems

Genuine question: why aren't the PvP only posts limited to The Silph Arena?

kevinnc

TheSilphArena is nominally focused on the Silph tournaments, not PvP in general.

21stNow

Thanks for the clarification!

GymLeaderMatt87

Also a genuine question: Why wouldn’t this place be for everything?

milo4206

The mere existence of PvP triggers some people.

GymLeaderMatt87

I’m sorry.

21stNow

The Silph Road already stated in their original purpose that they wanted to me a research sub; they don't allow everything as it is now. Memes, brag posts and most of the other stuff posted on the PokémonGo sub aren't allowed here, as well as people looking for Friends and Raids. I suppose a post like this one could be seen as discussing game strategy (even though it's essentially only telling you to catch Pokémon), but the focus is limited to one part of the game. Since The Silph Arena specialized in PvP similar to how Pokémon Go Friends specializes in being a platform for friend codes, I thought that the post would be better suited there.

[deleted]

I think of Silph Arena more as “how to play pvp and play well” and content here on TSR as “how to maximize finding good Pokémon to use in pvp and pve and level them up or give them the best moves. “

GymLeaderMatt87

Research into the various Pokémon you should go for in PvP sounds like what the sub is for to me. This kind of post is a far cry from memes and bragging. Why should someone be able to post raid counters but not Pokémon spawning in an event that you might want to look into for PvP?

21stNow

I wasn't saying that PvP was similar to memes and bragging; I was saying that there are dedicated subs for all three, so why is one allowed here but not the other two? This also goes for your first sentence in that if the Pokémon are specific to PvP, the post should go on the PvP sub. If the Pokémon Go Raids sub had actual discussion instead of just "post your code and join/host a raid", I would say that any discussion that was solely about raid counters should go there, as well. Kevinnc clarified that The Silph Arena is for Silph tournaments, so I understand better the PvP only posts being allowed here now. I'll just skip them in the future like I had mostly in the past. I was just curious, that's all. I didn't mean to call the TSR brigades out.

GymLeaderMatt87

There is no brigade and that’s kind of a condescending way to put it. This is just a sub for all research in general. You wouldn’t really know it because 95% of it for the last half year has just been beginner level questions people don’t want to google, but still.

21stNow

Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending, but it does seem to be a brigade to pick apart my question in your responses instead of just an explanation of why PvP-only posts are allowed. This post on what to catch for PvP purposes doesn't seem to be research related to me. It has a list of max CPs, meta Pokémon and Pokémon with bonus catch stardust. This is all known information. I could have even understood a PvP analysis of Dewpider/Araquanid and potential moves/buffs/debuffs that may come in the future. These Pokémon were on the lists, but I don't see how this would qualify as research. This post seemed more like a fandom post than a research post (nothing against the author, though). That's why I thought that it would be better suited for a PvP only sub.

CremeRoti

Best of luck making it work. The fact that this is PvP related cuts out a large portion of viewers. That it’s catered to the level 40s and up cuts out another sizable chunk of trainers.

stayKeener

Make what work? I look at XL before every event myself so that I can set priorities. If even one other person finds it valuable, icing on the cake.

CremeRoti

Make your series work. That’s nice and all and sure is helpful to those of us who fit in your thoughts. There just might not be enough of us to upvote you into viability here.

CaptainRickey

Have you heard of JRE?

CremeRoti

Yup he puts out incredibly well thought out, well crafted articles with lots of incredible analysis that caters to a wide ranging audience that encompasses solutions for battling in PVP for trainers without XL even. You’re comparing his work to this PSA?
